Was on campus and noticed a Tacos 1986 location nearby, so we decided to stop by! This location only has outdoor, covered patio seating. Unfortunately, when we visited, the bathroom wasn't available (possibly because it was broken?), which was a bit inconvenient. Service is quick. I got the adobada (pork al pastor) taco and the asada perron, along with a jamaica agua fresca, which was super refreshing. I also appreciated that they offered cups of ice for our agua frescas! You can really tell that their tortillas are fresh and handmade, which made a big difference. They also have a parking lot on-site, which is convenient. read more

Sadly, I was very underwhelmed by this location. I ordered a 2 taco carne asada combo. As much as I love avocado, the taco was like 60% guacamole so already the ratio of meat to toppings was off. While the beans were fine, the rice was extremely bland. The green salsa was the consistency of a watery green juice, not salsa verde. I've been to their Westwood location, and I've had their tacos at Smorgasburg before so I know their food is generally good-- not sure what's going on at this location. We've been here several times and my husband Mike LOVES this place! Super friendly staff, easy parking lot behind the stand, and convenient online ordering. Limited outdoor seating on the side, but we usually take our food togo anyway. You really can't go wrong with the burritos or the tacos. Just a heads up they put guacamole sauce on pretty much everything, so if you're not a fan, make sure to let them know. I love avocados, so I'm more than happy about it! I really hope my negatives for this review are just due to them being open for a few days (they had been open less than 4 days when I ate here). I do, honestly, plan on giving them another chance. But I just want to put this out here for other people planning on getting food to go in the next coming days/weeks. First, the negatives: I ordered 2 #1 taco plates. One with chicken & mushroom, and then the other both al pastor without guac. Everything looked good on the receipt, but when I got home, we saw that the first plate was 2 chicken tacos and the other plate was slathered in guacamole. Those seem like 2 really basic requests and so it was disappointing to see they got them wrong. If you are getting your food to go, it might be a good idea to give things a quick once over before heading away from the business. Now, over all, I had a pleasant time. I am really glad that this location is keeping the iconic heart logo from the Cupid's Hot Dog that used to be in this spot for decades. It's a wonderful homage to the past. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. They took my order, read it back, and everything at least sounded/looked good. Their fountain drink machine wasn't working so with my combo they let me get bottled drink and even let me get an horchata over the drinks, both of which are 'premium' drinks so to speak on there menu. I'm assuming this is just a limited thing while they get things in full swing. The location itself is really nice. It's clean, tidy, and well maintained. The windows let you look right into the kitchen and everything there looks spotless and well maintained. The lot behind the location looks like it hasn't been touched since Cupid's left, but that's fine. Just know it's a bit of a small lot so if they get busy, you might be parking on the street and walking a bit. The food was tasty. The chicken was a tad salty. It needed some sort of citrus. Thankfully we had some limes on hand & a couple little squirts of that really improved upon the flavor profile. I enjoyed the al pastor. It's not something that is going to change your life, but it's flavorful and tenter, but also crispy from where it was cooked on the griddle. Between the two flavors we tried, I would definitely get the al pastor again. I think it would work great in a burrito. But we only tried the street tacos on our visit. I hope to eventually come back here and give them another shot. I want to give them time to figure things out. Only went to collect my birthday gift thru the app but meat (asada) is tasty maybe need to expand the meat selection...I ordered online and was ready quick....i would recommend to try the tacos but it can get pricey if your order has more than 4-5 items on it.... The service was okay, but we had to wait a while because something in the kitchen was not working, and they were having difficulties making the corn tortillas. However, the cashier did explain the situation to us and apologized. He also gave us a couple tacos on the house when they got the machine working again which was really nice. If you want to eat there, I would suggest going when the weather is nice since they only have outdoor seating. The vibes are pretty cute at night since they have some string lights hanging overhead. Had my first taste of food from here after finding out there was a location in this area. Service was prompt and polite. Not busy on a Sunday evening. convenient parking in back. A couple picnic style tables and then counter style seating. I found the meat of the tacos to be light. Like not bland but not overly seasoned. I'm sure its some quality meat but tasted like made for Clean eaters. I did see the Adobado/Al Pastor on a rotisserie. But flavor was lacking in both that and the Asada. The rice and beans had more flavor. Guacamole was nice and fresh but just plain unseasoned as well. For the value, not a bad price at all. Went early during a weekday and the food took quite a while for it to be ready. Ordered a burrito and a combo with tacos Perron, rice and beans. First issue was their fountain machine not working. Then they gave me my combo WITHOUT the rice and beans. They legit forgot and my husband had to go ask for it. We've been fans of Tacos 1986 since the Burbank location opened in July 2020, and we've also enjoyed the downtown spot. We love the brand, the energy, and the food that usually keeps us coming back. That's why we were excited about the Northridge location. The setup is great--the awning, the service, and the overall vibe all work. But the flavors we've come to expect just aren't coming through here. This was our 4th visit to this location, and the last two times we've noticed the same issue: both the carne asada and the pollo are lacking in seasoning. My wife ordered a bowl and I had a burrito, and both just felt flat compared to what we're used to. Even the chips and guac were off. The "chips" were just whole fried tortillas, not cut or broken up, and they had no salt at all. At $8 for a small portion, it didn't feel like the same standard we know Tacos 1986 usually delivers. Oh and the salsa recipes seemed different than the original ones we've tried in Burbank. It feels like there may be a training issue or something happening at the central kitchen that's throwing off consistency. We'd love for management to take a closer look, because we really want this location to live up to the quality we've always appreciated at Tacos 1986. read more

The customer service was excellent, and the staff was friendly, inviting, and thorough in explaining the options and food ingredients. The agua frescas are good! The food looked delicious. New taco place right next to Sea with lots of really good options it's made fresh so it's not super fast to get your food but fast enough and the variety was nice. They have options for vegans and vegetarians as well. I really like their Spanish rice and beans. I stopped by Tacos 1986 for the second time to grab dinner and ordered three carne asada tacos. I even brought my own insulated bag to keep the food hot since I live about two miles away. My order came out very quickly, which I appreciated. However, when I got home and opened them up, the tacos were actually cold. Not lukewarm -- cold. The meat didn't seem heated through, and the tortillas also felt unheated. Considering how fast the food came out and that I had them in an insulated bag, that was really disappointing. These are probably the best tacos you can get in the San Fernando Valley for lunch. Their taco is not as flavorful as the ones I had at other locations or when I first had their perron taco at Smorgasburg. Maybe quality control is hard once you expand with other stores. You'll want to order the perron de adobada. That's their top recommendation for tacos so that's what you should order here.
