I've been to multiple el torito locations & had pleasant experiences but this one was just sad. We expected crowds & made a reservation for Father's Day and at check in, were told they'd text us when our table was ready. 20 mins later, we still hadn't been seated despite noticing other groups that came in after us being seated. When asked, the host said they tried to call us but we were right outside the door & would've heard it had they called us. The restaurant itself has seen better days as everything is pretty run down and dirty. The women's bathroom only had 1 stall working so there was a looooong line. Food itself was ok but not great and service was subpar at best. No plates are brought out with appetizers so we were all eating off napkins. When asked for more napkins, they brought 3 for our table of 4 people... When I asked for a to-go box, the server grabbed it but stopped to have a 3-4 min conversation with a coworker before bringing it over. Mind you, our table was 1 table away from where he grabbed the box from. Also, my daughter's kids meal was supposed to come with a dessert which never showed up and we weren't trying to wait another 10+ mins for that so we just paid & left. read more

Food is decent and great for cheap eats. I'm surprised how fast this place fills up for breakfast! Service was okay. The server had to work several tables with larger parties, so when it's just the two of you, it's easy to be forgotten. We had a water view seat which was nice, but I remember going to the marina when we lived here just to walk around. It's changed a lot since I've last been here. read more

Came here with my boyfriend during Monday Happy Hour and unfortunately had the worst service imaginable. We sat in the bar for open seating, and after roughly 10 minutes handed chips and asked if we were ready to order; we were not so we asked for a bit more time. About 30 minutes pass, and were still not even offered water. After a bit more time of making eye contact with multiple servers and being (what felt like) ignored, I got frustrated and waved over a waitress and pretty much told her my order. I got a blended Margarita that when ordered actually came out quickly, but tasted sweet and waterdowned, it had almost no taste of alcohol to it whatsoever. I thought, no big deal, Ill ask for a new one when the food comed/wsitress checks on us; Except that, no joke, 45mins-1hr pass and no one even comes up to our table. We watched multiple tables come and go! Eventually I waived over my waitress again, canclled my whole order, returned my undrank Margarita and left. The workers were unapologetic and unbothered. It was the first time ive ever had to walk out of a place! This place has a super rad happy hour! I came and had a margarita flight and huge Mexican pizza and it only came to 20 bucks! The Mexican pizza was delicious but so much food I had to take part of it home. Next time I would order with extra pickled onions and jalapeños. The best Mexican I've ever tasted. My server was an absolute Angel. When I first arrived at my table chips and salsa came within 2 minutes UNBELIEVABLE!!. Ms Dayan brought this green salsa to the table THE G.O.A.T I never tasted this kind of salsa. My 13 year old granddaughter who happens to be the most finicky eater on the planet had two servings of a taco barres, she actually ate 6 taco. Dayan didn't let us run out of anything, from chips and salsa to lemonade it was covered. The manager paid our table of visit, what a great human being!!! We laughed and talked for around 15 minutes. The entire staff was so nice and friendly to us. Two weeks from this day, I'm bringing my eldest son and his wife and all four of my grandchildren to eat a the great EL TORITO. One of my go-to spots for larger groups, especially during happy hour timeframe! I'm upset they changed their happy hour times but I'll leave that off the rating. The food is excellent here! Happy hour food and drink menu are great values and I cannot recommend the crispy chicken flautas enough. The cotija cheese is awesome and they have a nice spicy orange sauce to use with it, wish I knew what they call it Service is usually solid.. it's always busy and jumping in there so I get the waiters/waitresses are running around. They might not be giving you personalized service but they keep your water full, bring your drinks before your food, and replenish your chips often. All you can ask for if you ask me! The food lacked flavor, was greasy, and overall was very much gringo. No authenticity. The place is clean with a nice view of the San Leandro Marina. That's a plus! But the food lacks any sort of real flavors, very bland, horrible wait time, and could have been better. Maybe add more flavor to the food. Had birria tacos that were lacking in flavor and way too greasy. Had the nachos for appetizers, very bland and seemed prepped way in advance. Lots of work is needed to be done here. Locals know, we come for cheap drinks, chips, and salsa, and the view. The food is not great. Service is good. The ambience is what makes the place! Sitting on the Water front of Marina, drinking a margarita or five and enjoying the table chips and salsa is what this place is all about! I shared the sample platter with my sister, the wings were the best thing on the plate. My mom loves the bacon, wrapped shrimp and always comes for dessert. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I don't know who the manager or owner is, but they got to get their stuff together and overhaul the whole establishment. I called in advance to see how long the wait would be and was told there was no wait. We got there within 20 minutes to a full house and a 30 minutes wait for a party of 2. We get added to the waitlist to where a text message would be sent when our table was ready. As we waited, we start to see multiple open tables that weren't being cleaned and clearly overlooked. We then begin to hear people complain over the amount of time they had to wait and other groups being seated before them. After 30 minutes, I go up to ask how long the wait was for us. There was 4 young women at the counter and each looked at each other trying to see who would be able to answer my question. One young lady just tells that I'm on the waitlist. I asked again, how much longer. She then tells me they have to seat both reservations at the same time as walk ins. I repeated, how much longer for us to be seated. The back and forth continued between us to where I had to ask at least 3 more times how much longer. After learning about their reservation policy, size of the establishment, and how long I've been waiting, she told me she couldn't give me a time and that it would for sure be longer than 30 minutes. As her and I are going back and forth, one of the other girls is telling another couple they can sit at the bar and enjoy the food while they wait for their table. I asked what that was about since NO ONE told us that when we arrived. She shrugs her shoulders and tells us to go ahead to the bar. When we walk over, we see there was about 7 open seats at the bar. We finally get to the food and everything was dry and clearly not edible. There was a ton of younger children putting their hands in all the food, with both children and adults putting food from their plate back to the trays. Completely unsanitary. I'm surprised they've been able to stay open with the amount of food code violations we saw while we were there. I will never forget back and DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE GOING. Ohh and it's been over 2 hours since we left and I have yet to receive a text that our table is ready. Lord know how long we would still be there waiting for a crappy meal. read more
