I went with the fajita salad for my entrée, and the proteins were super tender and seasoned just right. We love this place. It's been around for a long time it has great food. The restaurant exterior is nice and the inside is big with a large bar on one side and 3 dining rooms that are all connected but yet can be a little private for parties. The chips and salsa are good and their homemade tortillas are delicious. My favorite dish is the Tropical Tilapi, the seared Ahi Tuna salad was surprisingly good too! They have great bar drinks, but I ordered the Raspberry Margaritas and it came with a cherry which was disappointing as the picture on menu had a raspberry. Servers are always friendly. read more

El Toro was great from the service to the food. My grandson loves cheese enchiladas and I was t sure he would like it at El Toro because the sauce has meat in it. He was hesitant at first but ate the whole thing. The soft serve machine on the way out is a bonus. Definitely going back for a second visit! read more

My family's most recent experience with El Toro was so unacceptable that I feel compelled to warn others. We have a small child in our family with severe food allergies. His parents are always extremely clear and transparent with restaurants: his food cannot touch the foods he is allergic to, because even a trace of cross-contamination could cause a serious reaction. Despite this, El Toro still placed his meal directly on top of food he is allergic to -- making it completely unsafe for him to eat. It was my brother's birthday. He drove clear across town to pick up the order, only to bring it home and find his son's meal ruined. While all the other kids sat happily at the table eating their dinners, my nephew had nothing safe for him to eat from the restaurant. Watching a five year old child be excluded like that on a special occasion because a restaurant couldn't follow basic allergy instructions is both heartbreaking and infuriating. This was not an isolated incident. For the past few years, nearly every time we have placed a to-go order from El Toro, they have managed to get something wrong -- missing items, incorrect food, salads with no dressing, it's always something. But this time was by far the worst. When my brother called, I eventually spoke with the manager myself. Instead of fixing the situation, he excused it by saying they are "not equipped to deliver." Not equipped to deliver, even though it was their mistake. He expected my brother to drive back across town, on his birthday, to correct something the restaurant should have gotten right in the first place. That is shockingly poor management. If you're going to operate a restaurant with staff who clearly aren't properly trained, then as a manager you should at least be prepared to handle the consequences when you inevitably fail. This one clearly wasn't. El Toro failed on every level: food safety, customer service, and management accountability. To dismiss a child's serious allergy and refuse to make things right is beyond negligent -- it's careless and cruel. I will never spend another dollar here, and I strongly urge families, especially those with children who have allergies, to avoid this restaurant at all costs. Also their salsa is watery af. It's basically tomato flavored water. You could drink it with a straw. read more

A true gem; an unexpected find in Freeport: Lake Jackson!! She had the taco platter, one crunchy and two soft, and I had the Pozole and it was amazing! I've never had pozole before, but I thought I would try it, and it just blew me out of the world ! It was a pork and hominy and vegetables in a rich chili broth. It was so tasty. I'm addicted now. I have to find some in Houston. I certainly do recommend this place and I heard that this was the original restaurant from Ibarra who owns the gringos franchise. read more

I'm only in town every few months, but this has been my go-to spot for great food whenever I'm here. Since I am typically eating alone on business trips, I always sit at the bar. Tonight Addison was my bartender and server and she was fantastic. I also watched young Ethan work his butt off, not only for the folk sitting at the bar, but also a ton of walk ups, who wanted to drink while they were waiting for their table in the main restaurant. Not sure how you hire young people with work ethic like that, but kudos to the management at El Toro! read more

I was visiting Lake Jackson on a Saturday, and stopped in at this restaurant for lunch. The staff was attentive, and the food delicious. I had the Mixed Fajita Quesadillas, the meat was cooked just right, and the dish was large, I had left overs to take home. If I were ever in Lake Jackson again, I would revisit this restaurant. The food was delicious. Our server was kind and courteous. We didn't realize it, but a drink for one of our members was delayed and we only realized when the server and a manager came over to apologize. That explained the crash we heard earlier. Thankfully the server was okay, but we were having such a good time we didn't even realize it was missing. The reason one star is missing is that my pollo ixtapa was listed as gluten free, yet I was given flour tortillas. Thankfully my gluten intolerance isn't bad yet, but since it was listed as a gluten free dish, I was under the impression that anything I was given was GF. That's a mistake I won't make again as my stomach let me know that they were not GF. They have a soft serve dispenser at the front, so that is a novel way to top off your dinner if you have room. read more

Food was decent we were visiting from out of town. They couldn't make a paloma so I opted for another drink or was decent just too sweet for me. One of my favorite Mexican spots in town! The El Dorado is a dish I order almost always and it's amazing!! Also have had fajitas, enchiladas, quesadillas, and stuffed avocado from here too and all are great. Service is always timely and helpful and the atmosphere is one that's suitable for drinks after work, date night, lunch with loved ones, etc. Wish that the dishes weren't so pricey (sometimes dinner for 3 can reach up to 60 dollars) so usually I save visits or takeout from here for special occasions. read more

I just had the displeasure of eating at EL Toro. The entrees tasted stale. The rice was dry and old, beans tasted like they have been around for a week as well. The margarita tasted like lime juice with no tequila. We asked for Tajin, they brought salt. The decor..... They have some type of fabric on the wall that is filthy. I can't remember his name as it was unique but he checked to make sure we enjoyed our food multiple times, kept refilling our waters, and truly cared about our time at the restaurant as we are from out of town . Hubby ordered the Lunch Del Mar & I went for the Medio Pollo Dorado. Amazing! The shrimp was perfect and the chicken! The chicken was the best I've had. Stopped here on a Sunday afternoon on our way back to Galveston. Passed here many times and decided to try it. The place was packed but we were seated quickly. Our waiter was very nice and efficient. El toro is a community staple known for consistently feeding some of the area's best Tex-Amex. Many family, school, friends, and company gatherings are had here. For years many local business and even the school districts have used them to cater their events. My company used the. Two weeks ago to order probably over 100 fajitas to go, and salads for those on a special diet. I didn't take pictures of those but everything was hot fresh and good. This past week they ordered catering again, this time we all got fajita Cobb salads. I chose beef and dug in so fast that I almost forgot to take a pic! The food was awesome as always the question was great they always give free packaged chips and salas rojo and verde to go. Good, solid, delicious food. The peeps that work here are also really nice. We frequently come here for lunch, and our orders range from nachos to tacos to fajitas to salad -- pretty much the whole spectrum. We are consistently pleased. Today, I ordered the Pacifico because you can't beat bacon wrapped shrimp dipped in butter, and my wife had the Shrimp and Mango Salad. Both were promptly brought to our table, and both were delicious. We also ate our weight in chips and green salsa, of course. Prices are *slightly* high -- but it doesn't keep us from making El Toto a regular spot. Definitely a place to go to if you are in the area. I typically sit at the bar since they have happy hour until 6:30 which is great. $5 margaritas and a bunch of apps on special is a great deal. I do like the ice rail around the bar to help keep your drink cold if you so desire. The bartenders are friendly and helpful. The food is good or at least I think it is good. I have been there multiple and never had anything that wasn't good. It seems to always be crowded for lunch or dinner so it must be popular. I wanted to try the mango shrimp salad but our friends said they love the Seared tuna salad so I tried it and it was So Flavorful I'm glad I did.
