I visited the Stephen Austin Statue and the city museum. I was looking for a Mexican Restaurant. Google told me to go here to Jimador. It was around 2pm when I arrived. The restaurant was empty. It was easy to order. I got pollo-chicken. I hadn't eaten a Mexican food for 6 months. It was super tasty. When I paid, one of the servers asked me' Are you Japanese? " I said yes. But I missed Mexican food. Tacos are better than sushi here in Texas! The Mexicans are very authentic here in Texas. The inside was a very Mexican atmosphere. I loved it. We have been regulars here for years. The food is good but we went because you could get a full meal at an affordable price. Today we went in and without warning they doubled their prices. Their large queso is now $16 and their plates are 15 dollars and up. Unfortunately, the food quality did not improve enough to justify the new prices. read more

Come on El Jimador something has happened to your food, i used to come in and get a nice sirloin or T bone and they were great and tasty. My daughter and I came in after a road trip to have a great meal, I was very disappointed with my steak, I got a T bone and rather than it being red, juicy & tender it was a shade of grey, very thin & very tough and I did well to choke it down I know you can do better, so you might want to start looking at what you served and see if you would eat it, if not throw it out and start over, even though this happened to me I will be back, everyone needs another chance. I had breakfast here for the first time and the restaurant is clean and the environment is nice, but not impressed with the food, service, and the price for 2 eggs, cup and a half of potatoes, 2 bacon strips, and one cup of coffee due to no service. This is our favorite Mexican breakfast spot in town. We always get great service, and the food always comes out quickly. Inside, the place is loaded with tables and has a nice Mexican Decor. Most of the waitresses speak pretty good English and probably all speak Spanish. They are very friendly and I never lack for soda refills. We pretty much only come here for breakfast so I can't rate the lunch or dinner. My only complaint on the breakfast is sometimes it seems the bacon is deep fried instead of pan fried. That pretty much ruins the bacon for me. It's strange cuz other times it seems pan fried. Today is a good day. They have 2 salsas, one served hot and one served cold. Love love love their cold sauce. A lot of the menu is written in Spanish; thankfully I was with people who could translate. I ordered fish soup, which was tasty and filling served with a fresh tortilla. I have only been here once but my fiance comes every time he is down here. I was amazed at how good the food was though! It was like eating authentic mexican food straight from Mexico!! The flavors and spices were wonderful and the meat just melted in my mouth! (that's what she said, right? Hah!) Good food, nice staff, and real Mexican sodas and aguas frescas which make me happy on a hot day! The salsa and queso are good, fresh homemade flour tortillas, fresh beans what more could you ask for?! The price is reasonable, a little higher than most spots in Houston but still very affordable. Atmosphere is good on Friday nights they have Mariachis which is fun. Bathrooms don't look the best but they do keep them clean. Parking lot looks big but can be tight especially on the weekends.
