Found this restaurant last minute and it was AMAZING. It was a Saturday night and there was no wait!! The green avocado salsa is delicious! I got chicken sour cream enchiladas and they were great! I loved the rice. Our server Austin was fantastic and went above and beyond. They even have a little ice cream machine so you can get a cone on your way out . We live in the Dallas area but we will definitely be back when back in town! read more

I implore anyone reading this to just go to La Casona instead (especially if you like flavor and authentic TexMex style cooking). The food here was mild, bland, and just all around impressively bad. It's definitely "white people TexMex food". The queso tasted like a plain block of velveeta. The red salsa was oddly very sweet, more like ketchup than actual salsa. The green salsa was bland and kinda watery. The stuffed fried avocado was barely warm in the middle and was slightly underripe with no flavor, and the steak inside wasn't even slightly reminiscent of beef fajita meat. The chicken fajitas seemed more like it was roasted in an oven with minimal seasoning and then placed upon a fajita skilled with unseasoned bell peppers and onions. The grilled veggies I got in place of rice and beans were okay, they tried to season those but they used so much oil that the seasoning wouldn't even stick to the veggies. It was expensive for the area and for very average sized portions. Service was great though. read more

I have been a customer of El Toro's since the 1970's, but I won't be one after today. We ordered food to go for a Fathers Day meal. When I was at El Toro, the girl at the register read my call in order back to me. I asked her for green sauce to be put in the bag when the order was ready. I paid for it and waited for it to come out. When she called my name to pickup the order, I had to remind her again for the green sauce. When I got home, they forgot to put the taco salad in the bag. I had to drive back to get it. The inconvenience and what I spent in fuel and time again doesn't justify their forgetfulness. The sad thing is that this is the 3rd time that they have screwed our order up in the last 2 months. Their excuse each time is they are extremely busy. They said that they would credit my card, but I looked and they never did. On the 2nd order that they got wrong, we ordered a kids cheese pizza for my daughter. When I got home with that order, the pizza had pepperonis on it. We called and the girl told us to take them off. I told her that my daughter is a vegetarian. They said they would issue a credit but never did. The service and attitudes of the to-go staff have been getting worse over the past year. I will not be an El Toro customer any more. It is a shame that they have lost a 40+ year customer. read more

Waiter was great and loved the ambience. Food... looked amazing but it disappointed. My recommendation would be to stop using Vegetable or Canola Oil. Use real butter, Ghee, Avocado Oil, Beef Tallow, Lard, real fats. This would VASTLY improve the flavor and texture of your food. Everything was so oily and not the good oily. You ever wonder why real Mexican food tastes great? They use beef fat or lard. You can tell the difference. Stop using the fake cheeses too. Use real cheese. Lastly, I ordered the Guacamole appetizer and first, don't call it guacamole when you put 25% avocado and 75% onion and cilantro. We call that pico where I'm from. $12 for cilantro, onion (and I mean a lot of it!) and half an avocado and there was a HUGE chunk that was hard which means it wasn't fully ripe and the person who prepared it knew it wasn't and sent it out anyway, that's irritating. Do better. I may go back and try something else because this was my first time. read more

I have been here several times and it has always been great. I came for a family member's birthday party the first time I ate here and, they were great at accommodating the 40 guests that were present. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the bathrooms are clean along with the rest of the restaurant. One of my favorite foods is fajitas and, they do not disappoint here. I love to get the combination fajitas that include beef and chicken. They have been tender and full of flavor every single time. My wife loves the Pasta Diablo which is a fettuccine noodle with chicken, shrimp, jalapeno sausage, bell peppers and mushrooms coated in a creamy sauce. It is very flavorful and has the right amount of kick. The queso is also tasty and comes in its own chip bowl that is good to eat after you eat all the queso. They bring you two different types of salsa which are also very good. The chips have a good taste and I didn't need to add salt to them. I haven't tried many drinks here but, the Astro's Margarita I had the last time I was here was fantastic. All of the staff members I have encountered have been friendly and attentive. It was raining during one of my visits and, there were staff members with umbrellas running towards patrons coming into the restaurant. They were making sure they did not get wet and, that is a little thing that makes a difference. The prices aren't the cheapest but, the food has been consistently good and the portions have been decent. You can't beat this place if you are in the area. I complimented the server on the nice appearance of the plates and he said they practice 3 Ps, picture perfect plate. My family has been coming here since 1960s and it's never disappointed. The inside decor is impressive. Servers are better than average at worst, with most being experienced professionals. The chips are light and crispy yet substantial. Went on a Saturday evening - but late enough that there was no wait. Plenty of wait staff that constantly attended to drink refills and chips and salsa. The chips are hot and both the green sauce and salsa fresh. Portions for both dinners and kids menus were good. Ordered the summer special which is on the favorites. Apparently since it's a fav they serve it year around. The guacamole that came with it still had chunks of avocado and tasted like it had just been prepared. Kids really enjoyed their food and of course the soft serve machine at the end. Our server was excellent. Friendly, respectful and so pleasant. We were really pleased. Well, what can you say about a Clute institution, landmark, and just a great a place to dine! El Toro has been a staple in me and my family's favorite places to eat. I have been dining there since circa 1963. It was there that my future brother-in-law and I received our first jobs. Part of our pay was an El Toro dinner.Not bad for 13 year old boys. The food was wonderful (from as usual). It arrived to our table quickly, I had prepared myself for a long wait due to the COVID problem. It is reasonably priced and I always have leftovers, 2 meals for the price of one. I ordered a Malibu and pineapple juice. It got to the table quickly and nicely garnished (I notice these things. I'm picky about my drinks but that one was just right. Our server was fabulous. She was there when we needed something, but didn't hover over the table. If someone from this restaurant reads this, her name begins with an A and she was working the bar tables at about 7:30 - 8:00 on Thursday, July 9th. You hired a great one.
