Interesting experience...The server was Excellent!!! And even the food was good till it wasn't. I ordered the Texas cheese steak tacos a little apprehensively but when I asked, the response was that they were pretty good so I went with it . Food came out hot and fresh and was quite tasty until on my 3rd bite I found myself chewing on a mouth full of saran-wrap. A manager came over and had them re-do the dish as a to-go item. The bahama colada was a great choice drink and was mixed well. Sweet, Fruity, taste like vacation or dessert. We did send back a piña colada that was completely lacking in flavor, almost taste like water. They re-did the piña colada and it was very good the second time. After that big bite of plastic in my taco I lost my appetite for a bit. When I got home I noticed that despite the efforts made by management, the philly cheese steak was missing the cheese sauce. Overall the server really made the time we spent there worth it. I do think the food would be good if there weren't so many issues. Attention to detail is important and I found repeat issues with that on this visit. read more

I've been meaning to review this place for a while, but today's customer service experience warrants a comment. As are many, I've started the year with some healthy eating goals. And when faced with my not so usual requests for accommodation , Alisha didn't blink an eye. She responded with a smile. Thank you Alisha for being okay with my "crazy"! With that said, I love Tex-Mex and El Toro is the best I've experienced in the area. They are smack (expansion) in the middle of renovations, but don't let that deter you. The food is always fresh and tasty. I have not tried anything I don't like, but the Chicken Tortilla soup is my favorite. I'm not sure what makes it so good, but I haven't had any down here that I like as much. It's thick and chunky, kinda like a stew. The soup and salad is a great option for lunch but the portions are big so I can generally get lunch and dinner out of it. I'm not going to bore you with descriptions of all my favs. I say try it. This place is always wonderful. The remodel is beautiful. However, we were sat in the middle room, closest to the today and the noise level for this particular room is still unbearable. We could not carry a conversation and hear each other without getting really loud and leaning toward each other. There were five of us so it was a little uncomfortable. The energy in this room was intense because of it being so close to the kitchen and all the hubbub of the service going on. If it is not too crowded and you have an option ask to be seated in the bar area. Food is great either way though! 8/11/16: Thanks for the wonderful service Ian! 9/2/16: I have failed to mention Karen. She is always so pleasant and goes the extra mile. Some people are genuinely sweet natured and it is obvious this is who she is. She has a calming demeanor and is gentle spoken. Today she walks up to the table and says "Diet Coke?". When she brought my ticket she handed me a Diet Coke in a to go cup and said "I brought you one to go." It's always a pleasure to be served by Karen. Graduation weekend was very busy for El Toro. Our party of two arrived 30 minutes before close. We chose to eat at the bar. Wait time for two was estimated at 20 minutes (not bad). Our service was excellent. Table side guacamole was perfect. They were great at handling a food allergy to cilantro. Cheese / beef enchiladas were fair (not OMG). A cousin highly recommends the seafood enchiladas. Chicken flautas, made with flour tortillas then deep fried) were generous with shredded chicken. Star of the show was the beef. It has a charcoal cooked flavor. It was on the fajita nachos and in a taco. A five star rating given by me means food, atmosphere, and staff are exceptional. One star deducted for slow bussing and bathroom cleanliness. I'll be clear. Our bartender shared that they were heavily staffed on Friday and Saturday of graduation weekend. It was anticipated that 8:30 on a Sunday night would be slower. Large parties arrived unexpectedly. There were guests who were sloppy in the restroom just before close. Really really tasty! The fajitas were moist and deliciously grilled, with a generous portion of meat. Processed cheese in their cheese enchiladas but I know some of you people prefer that. Overly nice staff all around, they let me and several other groups lined up in 5 mins before the open sign came on. Chargers for your phone and booths and bar is a nice touch! No fask masks if that bothers you but they are distance seating. If I'm down this way again I for sure will come back! read more

I FREAKING LOVE EL TORO. This is probably my favorite Tex-Mex place of all time. I am originally from the area, but I currently live 1/2 way across the US. And when I come home this is the first place I go. Sometimes I go here everyday while I am home. And when I come back 10lbs heavier I always blame El Toro. The bacon wrapped shrimp are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. The queso, enchiladas and fajitas are delicious also. You get a lot of food for a cheap price. Ohh, and the matador margaritas. Mmmmmm. After being offered a chain by our hosts I asked politely if there were any locals we could try first and this was the first to come to mind- so glad it did. I tried the shrimp and mango salad. It was a VERY large salad topped with 4 tail on shrimp. The mango and avocado on top made me very happy( good portion of the toppings). Was a little weak on the margarita dressing game( unevenly distributed). Hubby(and host) had the tilapia Baja Tacos which boasted large pieces of fish in corn tortillas, served with black beans and rice- plus pico de gallo. I ate here as a child, and it was my older sister's birthday meal. My how it has changed. Without saying how many years ago that took place, I ate here with my grown children this weekend. Drinks and food were delicious. The Blood Orange Margaritas and the Mojitos were perfect. I had Shrimp Brochettes and it was sizzling when it arrived and it only got better with every bite. Others had combo Tex-Mex dishes and Fajitas. Everything was tasty and prepared exactly as requested. The service was great. After a long day at the beach we decided to call in a To Go order of the Family Pack Shredded Chicken Tacos. OMG hands down the BEST family pack for 2 hungry adults and 2 middle school boys we have ever had. The volume of delicious portions you get is unbelievable. Our go-to Mexican restaurant was closed, so we decided to try El Toro. The place was terrific. From the service to the food, we were impressed. The green sauce and queso were top notch. So i can only vouch for the food and service of this my first visit. The restaurant was clean. (Didn't use the restroom so that remains to be seen.) The customer service was excellent. The chips and salsa were fresh. The chips were not stale. I ordered the pezole rojo and a Dos Equis. The soup came out hot and flavorful. The beer came out cold. The price for the soup and the beer (The beer at happy hour price.) and piece of dos leches cake came out to $19.00. Not bad. Usually its about 6 or 7 dollars more for the same setup. read more

Mexican restaurants are like ninjas. They start you off with chips and salsa, no biggie, just pique your tongue a little. Then the server innocently offers queso. Little spicier, more delicious. Then you get your entree, slathered in spice and cheese and oozing awesomeness and when you regain consciousness you are unbuckling your belt so you can breathe. Sneaky amazing ninjas... I had the tropical tilapia. It rocked my face off. That is all. My gf had the beef enchiladas. But these weren't just ground beef concoctions. Oh no, these had fajita meat in them. She ended up cross eyed half way through and I wanted to pounce on the things but I was too full to reach across the table. This is one of my favorite Tex-Mex places...at least in Clute, Texas it is! After a hard day working in the field there is nothing better than some good cheesy Tex-Mex and a worthy margarita, and this place delivers! They have all the classics like enchiladas and tacos, plus some great lunch and dinner combinations! The shrimp brochette is also on the top of my list! They have a great drink menu...and as I said before, I have tried the margaritas and a few other specialty cocktails and never been let down! The dining room area is HUGE, and I have never had to wait for a table, but I have always gone in the middle of the week! Mondays and Tuesdays are 1/2 price fajita night! Take advantage! And for dessert??? Skip the sopapilla and head for the mini twist cone! They only thing I cannot stand is that there is smoking in the bar area...I realize this is all over town, but it's just not my most desired setting, but they do try to seat you away from the bar if you request so. read more

When I have a little extra change I partake in the el dorado. It's got crawfish, chicken and creamy stuff. I've also had fajitas and shrimp brochette 1 million times!! I had the Pollo Ixtapa and was pleasantly surprised with the originality; not at all generic, border-town fare. My wife thought the vegan dish that was improvised for her was only so-so. I hear this place can get very crowded (especially after church) and that the service suffers during those times. We must have come at the perfect time because our service was attentive. Chips/Salsa immediately on the table, drink orders taken and delivered, request for the 'green chucky salsa' instantly fulfilled. The guy even bought us more chips before we had run out. I took the waiters recommendation and ordered the El Dorado dinner (Chicken breast topped with shrimp, crawfish, mushrooms, and red bell peppers in our white wine cream sauce, topped with melted blended cheeses. Served with guacamole, pico de gallo) YES, it was quite a lot of food for one person but it was DELICIOUS. The chicken was cooked perfectly tender and juicy. The seafood added to the dish without overwhelming. It will be hard not to always order this when I go to El Toro. Bonus star for the self-serve ice cream on the way out. read more

If you're going to order, get the tortilla soup. It is so good! The prices seem a little high for us for this type of establishment but not high enough to keep us from going back. We've ordered carry out twice for our family of 6 and enjoyed it both times. Be cautious on your fajitas though. I'm done with El Toros. It's a shame, really. The is your typical Tex-Mex restaurant with pretty decent food. That said, decent food cannot compensate for subpar to go staff and wait staff that's cuts MAJOR corners. There's not a lot of options in Southern Brazoria County, so it's a shame I had to write them off. In the last four years or so, the service has clearly declined. I've been meaning to write a review, but keep forgetting. The last time I visited I watched one of the assistants reuse a "gently" eaten bowl of chips. It was moved from one table to another! Does anything else really need to be said? I can't help but wonder what else is done in the kitchen if the chips were re-used blatantly in my face.
