Our waiter was friendly and efficient. He talked to us about how he came to Denver from the east coast and liked it here. Adelitas' version is comforting, approachable, and deeply homey. It tastes less like a culinary experiment and more like something your abuela has been making for decades. The carne asada was tender, the rice and beans were exactly what they should be, and every bite reminded me why comfort food never goes out of style. Before leaving, I made the smartest decision of the evening. Tres leches to go. I devoured it later at home while Netflix asked if I was still watching. So you either love this place or you hate it. Admittedly, it's kind of a dump but I love it!!!!! But I can tell you it is well worth the drive from anywhere in the Denver Metro area. The combination platter comes on two plates and consists of a burrito, a tostada and a taco and is hands down the best value you can get for your money....anywhere.....and that greasy taco is the single best taco made anywhere in the world.....NO EXCEPTION!!!!! The taco is deep fried with the meat and cheese in it, and the cheese is a dichotomy of a gooey, greasy melted bit of heaven and chewy, crusty burned goodness. And don't even try to question me on this one! I don't think I would eat it every day, but for a "treat" once in a while, you owe it to yourself to try it! If you get the super hot sauce, I don't think you will be disappointed....it's got some zip to it. The breakfast burrito also gets honorable mention and it's only about $5. I think the waitresses are all family so they probably wouldn't rate very highly on the Zagat scale. They are sometimes grumpy and not overly friendly but they are still quite efficient and will get you in and out in a hurry. If you happen to sit back close to the kitchen, you might find a little entertainment in how they talk amongst themselves. They can be somewhat crass but amusing nevertheless and fun to listen to if you have pretty thick skin. If the waitresses are standing around chit-chatting, don't be afraid to get up and go to the register to pay for your meal.....it's kinda like home here. As far as the restrooms go, try to go before you head up to El Toro. If after you arrive, you unexpectedly realize that you have to go, I recommend either trying to hold it in, or maybe even crapping in your pants. Either would be a better option than having to use the men's room, but then again you go to El Toro for the food....not to use the can! read more

I have a ton of friends from Texas and when they come in town I always take them here for tacos. The ground beef tacos from here are the best you will ever put in your mouth! They are super greasy but what do you expect they are fried beef tacos! If they are not greasy we would have a serious problem. Talk about the perfect hangover cure! read more

I don't understand why people are frequenting chains anyway but our order took roughly 10 minutes to come out. Much better than the 1 1/2 hours at the chains on Cinco de Mayo. Even Taco Bell was really backed up but if you want to eat something authentic versus designed specifically to cater to the masses, who am I to judge? And yes, I am aware it's not necessarily celebrated all around Mexico. Personally, I was more interested in the dessert shop next door. I didn't get fat by eating carrots.
