Don't judge a book by the cover. This is how I would totally describe this place. Situated off the beaten path in Amarillo is a great small Mexican breakfast and lunch location. There are a few booths and tables to sit at where you can eat, order at the counter for on the go or even try out there drive-thru. They have a wide range of breakfast items. I went with a small breakfast burrito which you can special order with different items to your liking. Will come with chips and salsa on the side. Coworker went with a traditional plate. Both were great. Coffee was good as well. Definitely worth the stop! read more

Small building but don't let that fool you I just had a breakfast burrito, potato, egg, bean and cheese and was outstanding. These little hole in the wall are most of the time the best. Chips were warm crispy and salsa was very good. If I didn't know better I would think I was down in San Vicente Mexico I would come here every time I was in Amarillo read more

The best way I can think to express my feelings about this breakfast burrito is through song, but I guess I'll just write this review instead. Nice little spot not far off the highway. Staff was fairly friendly. Excellent value for the money. Flavorful chorizo, fresh hot eggs. Hot sauce was decent but ordered pico and didn't seem to get any. Probably needed that for some freshness, but overall the burrito that I wanted! read more

First time I've ever been here; if I ever come back to Amarillo I will absolutely be back. Please give your hard earned money to the small places trying to stay afloat in 2020 like this one. Definitely not a bad place, just food is not really authentic. We r from Houston and the food was bland the tortillas were store bought and not made there. We usually eat at another place every year but it was not open until 9am so we decided to try vaquero. We will not be going back to vaquero. read more

Driving through Texas and was held up in some snow. I had two small breakfast burritos one with bacon, one with chorizo. So delicious and fresh and hot. I am considering going back for lunch. I've heard great things for years about Texas' breakfast tacos. I got to try them for the first time on a trip through Amarillo when El Vaquero turned up as the closest well respected option in the area. I can say the legends were true. I asked for what the lady at the counter recommended and the resulting order was delicious. The options for the burritos are numerous and you'll easily be able to find something to suit your mood. The whole bill for two people was under $10. What a steal! This is a really great mom and pop that you should try out. Be sure to tip well, these nice folks deserve it. read more

This might be the best breakfast burrito I've ever had and for reference, I grew up in SoCal, so that's saying a lot. We were 5 hours in on a 1300 mile road trip back to LA and were starving. My girlfriend found this little gem on the app and when I saw the pictures, I knew we had to stop. I've found that generally an inverse rule applies to Mexican food that doesn't usually exist in the restaurant universe - the smaller, more hole in the wall a taco shop appears on the outside means the better the food is on the inside. When it came to El Vacquero, this rule holds up, and then some. I had the hot links burro with cheese, beans and guacamole and it comes in three sizes, the largest which they call "Super Size". I think you guys might want to seriously reconsider changing that name to "Gut Bomb" because it was monstrous - in such a glorious way. Never thought of using hot link sausage in a burrito before but since I was in Texas, I thought why the hell not? I'm so glad I made that decision. Add a little tomatillo sauce and this thing was absolute perfection. If you're ever headed on I-40 and are coming up on Amarillo, words can't express how much this place is worth the stop. I had the "El Corporal" breakfast burrito and the barbacoa breakfast burrito..... those are my recommendations until I try more. Stopped in here going through TX, small place but right when I saw it I KNEW it was gonna be legit. I ordered the Steak and Eggs with added potatoes and beans burrito, I've been on this earth almost 24 years and this is some of the best food I've ever tasted, not just Mexican food but any type of food, dessert, snacks I don't care, this is some of the best food you will ever taste, PERIOD. Being pregnant I was craving tacos (since I can't have flour tortillas) We drove the short distance to 3rd Ave/Osage St and found the building quickly. However, the entrance was a little more difficult to find. There are no established parking spaces but I did see an empty lot across the street for overflow parking!!! We ordered machaca tacos and a bacon burrito. While waiting we noticed there was coffee available, come to find out it was Black Rifle Coffee. Within a timely manner our food was ready. This place has consistently good breakfast burritos. It's situated close to work for me so I stop in often. Family owned, friendly people and good food. Burritos are very reasonably priced, and they are fast at cranking them out. Yes, they even have a drive up window. Open at 6 weekdays and you'll inevitably find a group of "regulars" eating here; always a good sign. Can't comment on anything other than breakfast burros, that's my usual time to stop in. You know you have found a great place when it is filled with locals and the staff calls everyone by name. I love hole in the wall places with local flair and El Vaquero does not disappoint. While on a stop in Amarillo, I found El Vaquero on Yelp. I only needed to read one review and knew it was the place to go. We had breakfast and the day could not have started better. The huevos rancheros were amazing. The beans served on the side had great flavor. The corn tortillas were fresh. I highly recommend stopping for breakfast, lunch, or dinner if in or near Amarillo. Oh man! We are on a road trip from Los Angeles to Atlanta and stopped in Amarillo for the night. Hoping to skip the hotel breakfast for something more appetizing, we found this little shop serving some amazing Mexican breakfast food. Ordered a small chorizo breakfast burrito and 2 breakfast tacos. SO GOOD AND CRAZY CHEAP. The whole bill was just over $7(!!!). Both came with chips and fantastic house made salsa.
