.5 Lunch was a Taco Salad which consisted of the typical tortilla bowl, unseasoned boiled ground beef, lettuce, sour cream, cheese and topped with a sliced tomato. Nothing special and by the time you got near the bottom it became a soupy mess of blandness. My soda was refilled once, just before we left. Husband ordered the Steak Mexicano and a Lemonade. He thought the Steak was pretty good but was served a glass of water with a lemon slice in place of the Lemonade. The place looked clean and the staff was friendly although not too attentive. The food is usually good. Have enjoyed the Hawaiian Chicken and the Pollo a la Fiesta in the past. The last time I ordered two chicken soups and it was basically water with under-cooked chicken and vegetables. No salt or seasoning. Came to expect better. Not sure what happened. This place has only been open a few months but the owners are veterans in the business. The food was good and the salsa tasted better than most we've had. In fact, I ended my meal with chips and salsa instead of dessert. The atmosphere is casual and the decor is very attractive. The menu is basic but has everything I would expect at a Mexican restaurant. The vegetarian options are the usual cheese, spinach, or veggies in different forms. I might be greedy, but I can honestly say this is the best Mexican food I have ever had! It's in a small town called Locust, NC so many people could miss the place but it's a great place to go to if you really want some good authentic Mexican food. I use to just get the one beef and one chicken enchiladas with rice and beans all the time, but recently I decided it was time to branch off, and now I am stuck on any meal with their soft flour tortillas! They are so delicious! I could go on and on about how good their food is, but you are just going to have to go see for yourself. Their service is really good when it isn't packed. If it is crowded make sure you have time to wait and wait. My family and I have yet to eat inside but we usually get it to go and they have it ready about 15-20mins after we have called it in. read more

This area really lacks a lot of good restaurant choices and usually now when we're out this way and hungry, we drive home instead but today we decided (based on Yelp reviews) to give this place a shot. What a fabulous idea! Ok, coming in from outside, you're initially disappointed- expecting the scent of yummy food cooking, the entryway has simply a clean, almost medicinal scent - which while not bad, often implies food that isn't freshly prepared, but again, the area lacks other choices so... Decor, again, it's a miss. Certainly clean, but very plain and not very reminiscent of a Mexican restaurant at all. However, what you're there for is the food and.. My God it's good. We started with queso fundido (a lil greasy, but yum!!). Hubby had the lunch Carnitas, I had the beef Chiliquilas... Seriously the best Mexican food we've had (and we do Mexican restaurants a LOT!!). Too much to eat (and we never take leftovers home!) but this time.. I'd have been mad at myself later for not taking these with us, so I'm looking forward to leftovers for dinner later. The Mexican rice was pretty bland, even for Mexican rice, so for the decor and the side not worth eating, I gave it a 4 instead of 5, but the food was fabulous and the service equally wonderful. We'll definitely be back every time we're in the area (which is probably 2-3x a month..). Started off good, but after 3-4 trips we haven't been back. The wait staff is frazzled even when they are not swamped. You never get 1 waiter you get the whole staff which may sound like a good thing but is only confusing and annoying. The food is good not great. The booths are very unstable allowing your ever move to be felt by the person behind you and vise versa. The second time we went we had our 1 yo with us and were told their were no high chairs which was very inconvenient, not detrimental and a deal breaker at the time but it certainly helps set the mood for the evening. I would not recommend in any way and we will choose to continue to drive out of the way to visit La Unica in Indian Trail for our Mexican cuisine fix. read more

Her daughter's rehearsal dinner was held there last week, and the crew managed to served hot, delicious meals to 22 people in a short period of time. How this place is rated so high is beyond me. I have eaten at plenty of Mexican and Texmex restaurants. Enough to know when one is sub par. I started with the chips and salsa.... chips were stale and seemed to be fried a second time to make them crunchy again but all that did was make them almost inedible with the amount of oil that was trapped in each chip. The salsa tasted like you got tostitos bottled salsa and just added peppers to it. Then guacamole was ordered for the table. It came out so fast it clearly wasnt made fresh.... and to confirm that assumption there was a top brown layer on the guacamole making it look like this plate had been served and set aside for whoever dared order it next. I ordered a ribeye with black beans and rice. Let me preface this next point by saying that I am Cuban and that black beans are 60% of our diet. These beans were FLAVORLESS. Only after adding salt and pepper were they even edible. I could make better black beans with a blindfold on. The grains of rice were not even whole. It looked like they scraped the bottom of a pan full of burned rice and threw it on my plate. Now for the worst part.....the steak. Ribeye steaks are a fatty cut of steak.... I realize that. But if you have any cooking experience you know that you have to cook it on a high heat to melt away some fat and maybe even make it crispy and possibly finish in the oven. This fat may as well have been made of bubblegum because it was the same texture. The seasoning was mediocre and they decided to mask this by laying on a 1/4" thick layer of cheese. All around everything I ate was terrible. Looking over at the ceviche that my in-laws ordered I could only assume that they got pre-cooked cocktail shrimp that was tossed with onions, lime juice, etc. I wont ever go back to this place even for a free meal. Everyone considering this place please drive the extra distance and go to PACO'S TACOS, TACOS 4 LIFE, or LA UNICA. Dont do this to yourself. read more

Some of the best "Mexican" (as in Tex Mex and what most people here think of as Mexican) around! We always stop here on the way back from Morrow Mountain to Charlotte. Food is plentiful and delicious (I got chimichanguitas), and the place was packed at 5-6:00 Sunday which is a good sign. Very generous portion of cheese dip, pitcher of margaritas, and michelada (which was sooo tasty; try this drink if you like bloody Marys) for the price. Sometimes Mexican restaurants can all seem the same. However when you do find your go to place, you will be loyal forever. I have found my favorite Mexican restaurant in Charlotte! Located near Red Bridge golf club and the shiny Locust Walmart, you will find this gem. The traditional salsa and chips to start were especially tasty. I also asked for verde salsa and this was also complimentary. I could tell it was made with fresh tomatillos and I loved it! My husband and I shared the nachos supreme. They were enough to share as a meal. They included both shredded chicken and beef, delicious creamy queso, guacamole, pico de guilo, sour cream, and lettuce. I was amazed at how flavorful the meat was and just how very fresh the guacamole was. I will definitely be coming back here. The menu is extensive and the service was great. It was packed for dinner and with good reason. definitely check this place out! Remember you bring your check to the cashier to pay. I got a burrito which was giant but unexpectedly drenched in a yucky red sauce, husband got fajitas which was good. Service was okay, food delivery took a while. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a good local Mexican restaurant and was pleased to find one in Locust, NC. I was skeptical because of the initial impressions that I had upon walking into the restaurant. Those initial worries went away almost immediately. The wait staff is awesome and very friendly. The food comes fast and it tastes delicious. It is top 2 best Mexican food I've ever had. The prices are awesome. I spend almost double at other Mexican places like Monterrey, so I was pleasantly surprised when the food was better AND better prices then other restaurants. On Friday & Saturday nights, there can be a wait and since the entry way is fairly small it can bet kind of crowded. Also, it is crowded on Sundays after church but never too long of a wait. I try to come here at least once a week. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Mexican food. read more
