Had a taste for a good margarita with some guacamole and chips so decided to give Taqueria Chuyita a try based on the good reviews. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly upon entering. Parking can get tricky on the typical busy eat out days due to location in a small retail strip. The restaurant seems small but with a decent amount of seating. Complimentary chips and salsa were provided; salsa has a bit of a kick to it but in a good way. Ordered a small guacamole and let me tell you it was the best guac I've had in years, so fresh and flavorful. I got a small order to go. Ordered the Enchiladas Rancheras, Quesabirria tacos, and one Asada(steak) taco for entrees. Enchiladas lack flavor seasoning and the meat was dry. Birria was decent, a more authentic Mexican flare but could use a bit more seasoning. Asada taco was a no go for me. Not sure what type of steak is used but it was cubed and overcooked. Didn't really taste like steak to me. Ordered a strawberry and house frozen margarita. Both were icee (not smooth)and watered down. No flavor and definitely no alcohol in sight. read more

Authentic Mexican good prices excellent food love the atmosphere. It's not much to look at really, but it's authentic both the workers and the food and that's all I really need when I eat Mexican. My Dad taught me from my youth to judge a restaurant first by the number of vehicles in their parking lot and not by the appearance of the building. Well, this place is hopping and for all the right reasons. After finding a place to park, we were greeted by warm and smiling people, seated promptly, and enthusiastically waited on. Great selections, reasonable prices, and fantastic service. What's not to like? Oh, yea, the food is great, too! We've tried various entrees and cannot name a winner. Their Chicken Mole--I mean holy mole--is fantastic. Then I tried their Chori-Pollo, a dish with seared chicken and chorizo sausage. I'm dancing around the table as happy music is played overhead. So. Damn. Good. Monroe has a plethora of Mexican restaurants, of which a few are good. I think this little family-owned place, however, takes the prize. We've been here a couple of times. I would rate it 3.5 instead. The food is athentic and quite good. Actually reminds of me of Puerta Vallarta! Service is excellent. Our last visit, however, was disappointing. The bean dip was mostly cheese (few beans) and the steak in the steak fajitas were terribly overcooked. We ended up not finishing nor taking it home. We also had a California taco which did not disappoint. We would still come back, but you can't overcook thinkly slice steak! read more

Another awesome dining experience on the patio at Chuyita's. :) Had the flautas again, but this time with their savory barbacoa, or tender shredded roast beef that melts in your mouth. Plus their charros beans, beats refried any day! You can get the flautas low carb with sliced cukes if you ask for a few bucks extra. Save those calories for the sangria. :) read more

Hands down BEST Mexican restaurant I've EVER had since living in Charlotte. Their Birria and Menudo is my addiction here. Drinks are great and their margaritas do not give me acid reflux. This place is exceptional, and a real gem. You have to try it. I wish we could keep it to ourselves. The food is delicious and the whole staff is super nice with amazing customer service. We always order takeout and they have so many delicious options. The pork tamales actually come wet with sauce/cheese on them and they were delicious. The agua frescas and many other items are all homemade from scratch. The dine-in experience seemed to be very nice as well, with many customers choosing to eat there instead. Been coming here for a while now and I come for two things, scratch that, three things -- mole and carnitas and the house made tortillas! This place is tiny and has maybe 12 tables the waitstaff are excellent! The pricing has gone up twice in the short time I've been coming but they are still very reasonable. I will try their weekend menudo but it's hard for me to not order my favorites! Ordered take out twice which is very popular here but I feel like the portions are a bit smaller. This place is amazing! Absolutely the best Mexican food in Monroe is right here. If you like spice, be sure to say yes to the spicy salsa. My wife buys a quart every time she goes to Tennessee to visit her mom. It's the best really hot salsa I've had at a restaurant. The service is great. The staff is all very friendly and happy to help with special requests. The ambience is family friendly, cozy. It's a pretty small space, although they have recently expanded to add more dining area. Very good, when you get the right servers. If you get the wrong server, expect a pretty unpleasant experience of miscommunication and inconsistency in your order. I absolutely love this place when they are firing on all cylinders. They need to desperately work on training and consistency in regards to assisting their non-Hispanic customers that can't communicate with some of the servers. When things go well, the food is 5 stars, when they don't it's a 2 star experience. Very cute/clean restaurant in an unassuming tiny strip mall. read more

Absolutely delish!! Husband had the different tacos options but the arne asada was his favorite, they are fire! I had 2 tostada's (vegetarian) with nice crispy shell. Husband said he would come without me if I didn't like it but I loved it, so we will definitely be coming back, soon. Salsas we're good, pico was nice large size with lime and Horchata was perfect (large sized too). Service was great and super friendly. They are open 7 days a week! even though Google and some others online says they are closed. Ps. Food was fabulous! Best I've had around Monroe, and almost as good as one other place I only recommend that's in CLT. I love that they have fresh Hugo's to choose from. The service was great! The folks in there seemed very appreciative of people's business given inside and enjoying their food. This will be my go to in Monroe. The only thing that would've made it bump up to 5 stars was a wider selection of other classic dishes- I.e. Mole Poblano, multiple selections of tamales and other selections. But that will not stop me from enjoying this establishment every time. read more
