Friend and I stopped in a couple days ago and thought the food was pretty good. It started off well, chips and salsa was brought out promptly as were the initial drinks. The portion size and cost were pretty on par with what I would expect from a Mexican restaurant in the area. The only issue I really had was with the service. It wasn't busy. I would say 5 or 6 tables, but the service just wasn't there. No refill on chips and salsa. No refill on drinks until I stopped somebody and asked. They don't offer you a box if you have food leftover. They don't bring the bill to you, you have to walk up to the register and then they figure it out. I felt that was kind of strange. Overall I'd give them another shot in the future in hopes of better service. The poor service is not really worth enduring because the food is so good, but it's worth trying again in hopes the service gets better. read more

The carnitas taste better at Taco Bell, if they served carnitas. The ones here were like dried road kill. Real Mexicans go to this place? Uh, no, they dont. Had lunch here (as I was in Dixon for training). I had the wet burrito (shredded chicken). This was excellently prepared. I also had the "devil sauce" (hot/spicy) which was on-point. I asked for no rice and it was loaded w/chicken and beans (actually, more chicken than beans - which is always nice to see/eat). The burrito was about 12" long and a good 2.5" thick. It was the "regular" size wet burrito and I just barely finished it. I suggest, unless you are ravenously hungry, order this size and not the large. It would (probably) feed two people, easily. Service was very good. Waitress was competent/cordial/friendly. I left her a great tip for her excellent service. This is a "sit down" place and not a taqueria, so you will get a basket of tortilla chips with a spicy/hot salsa (free), while you wait for your food. I waited less than 10-minutes. I was early (around 1045am), so they were not full (only a few tables were seated). But I suspect the service is good even when busy. I would return in a heartbeat. I thought my food was well above average in taste, presentation and quality. Oh, I forgot, I did also get a small salad with my dish (in the dish). All in all, a very nice place with great food, reasonably priced (my dish was $7.50). read more

Haven't had flavorful tacos is such a long time! I usually get the chicken and carne asada combo everytime I go to a new taco place. I was pleasantly surprised that the chicken was well seasoned because most places tend to lack in flavor when it comes to chicken tacos. In general both tacos had a nice kick. Love the food at this place! The shrimp a la Cora plate is my go to here & the best I've had anywhere! The shrimp today were crisp & succulent but ultimately it's the perfect blend of spices in the sauce which makes this dish so amazing! I've also had the shrimp fajitas which are awesome! The shrimp come out on a bed of red, yellow & green bell peppers sautéed together with white onions. So so delicious! The only constructive criticism I have for this place is in regards to their salsa & tortillas. If the tortillas were homemade & the salsa were more spicy/less tomato flavored, this place would get an A from me. read more

The huge menu a little overwhelming, but we found most of the food to be very good. I had never heard of Alambres before, but it was particularly tasty and plentiful (as are most of the offerings). The one theme here that several reviewers have mentioned is the uninspired table service. We had to ask, twice, for enough utensils to go around after the first request failed to provide enough. No refills were offered for empty glasses. When our group of seniors asked for our check (so we could split it up at the table), we were told that all the checks were kept at the register and to pay there. So one member of our group went to the register to obtain the check, but was made to wait there for several minutes until someone noticed him. My preference for good Mexican food and friendly service in Dixon is La Cocina (out by Walmart). Even the youngest of the waitstaff there knows what real hospitality is. read more

Went here yesterday, prices were much better than other Mexican restaurants in the area, however the service wasn't. I didn't have a bad experience, but it felt like once our food arrived, the waitress couldn't be bothered with us anymore; even with the restaurant less than half full. I don't know where the disconnect is, it's either the waitresses or the cooks. Every time (probably 5 times now) we order enchiladas without sour cream and every time it comes out with sour cream! We send it back and by the time they bring out a new one everyone else in our party is done eating. Then with kids rice and beans I order for my kids they don't bring it out until we ask about 10 minutes after we can finally get them to come back and check on us. In that time the baby is screaming their head off because they see us eating and their food is no where to be found. So either the waitresses need to be on top of the cooks making sure they make food right or they need to make sure they write things down right for the cooks. Something needs to happen soon because we are not wanting to keep giving this place business if this is how they run it. read more

I came across this place while traveling through and was so glad I did. I was in the mood for some tacos de papas and this spot popped up. First of all, yes, this place was busy. I wasn't looking to eat in, so I just placed an order to go. Unlike other reviewers, I found the staff extremely friendly and accomodating to my dietary requests as far as substitutions on my order. There was a little wait as the food was being prepared, but it wasn't that long. I would definitely come back again. My food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I'm never disappointed with any food that I've ordered here. Most recently I've been eating their shrimp ceviche tostadas. I first ordered because of lent, but I've been eating a few times a week. Taco salad is awesome, fajitas are amazing... Everything is so good. The fajita veggies are super spicy to me, so I can't go for those all the time. But they also always give us generous portions. What you get here is pretty simple. Great chips and salsa followed by generous portions of delicious authentic Mexican food of your liking. All at a very reasonable price. Not really sure why there's all the negative comments about service, it really isn't that bad. Might be because it's not your typical restaurant. You seat yourself when you walk in, you might have to flag someone down when you need something but it's not that hard to do and they respond very fast. I guess some people want helicopters hovering over them that refill glasses as they take a sip or something. And then you need to go to the register to pay, they don't drop the check off at your table. OK, so it's a bit different but not really that big of a deal. read more

I was a regular here until recently when we arrived 35 mi utes before closing and Ordered two meals. My rice tasted of gasoline. I complained and they only offered to take $ 2.oo off our bill. We had an order to go -- nachos, a crispy veggie taco, and a side of french fries for a quick lunch. The service is really pleasant, fast and our order was ready for pick up when we arrived. The nachos were a bit disappointing -- the chips were really soggy, there were hardly any beans except for a few smears of refried beans at the very bottom of the container, the chips were topped with chopped tomatoes, white onions, and fresh cilantro and covered with sliced jalapenos, so it was not exactly what I was expecting and not very tasty. The veggie taco was o.k. and actually had some good spicy salsa on it that I wish had been put on the nachos. The refried beans were good too and wish they had put them on the nachos as well. The only negative -- the entire taco was smothered in sour cream which made the crispy taco not so crispy. The french fries were a generous portion except quite a few had black spots on them so we had to throw them out. read more

On Fridays, the special is a taco salad with your choice of meat, rice, & beans for less than $7. Food: I love the chips & salsa! I don't eat spicy so the salsa was bold with just enough spice for me. The portions are large & both times I ate here, I needed to pack my food to go. The food also came out in less than 10 minutes both times. Service: I am always seated promptly & the waitresses are super nice! Water & chips/salsa were always brought out quickly. There are plenty of great taco trucks out there, and this truck is the one by which I measure all others. This truck is consistently busy, serving local employees and the high school for lunch. Go to this restaurant.......If you like to get your order messed up and very little to no customer service. Me and my girlfriend came to this restaurant expecting to have a delicious meal with friendly staff but instead we were met with treatment like we were leper's! And on top of the neglect, I ordered enchiladas with ADOBADA, but they gave me ASADA! And I couldn't even let the waitress know about the mistake because after dropping our food off, she never came back to check on us. (And the asada was dry and flavorless BTW) So I sucked it up and ate it anyway. But then my drink ran out halfway through my meal, and at that point it just seemed like the waitress was ignoring us. So all and all this was a horrible dining experience, so save yourself the humiliation and go down the street to La Cocina by the super Walmart, they have way better food and way better service! read more
