Recently had my hair colored. Help, lousy color, have stripes and colorist needs re training. MY consultation as they say in the booking details, was good, however, nothing was addressed from that . My hair is darker, wanted lighter so gray not as prominent when growing in. My appointment was for coloring only, no cut, no dry had wet head going home and color is darker than when I came in. After 105.00 charge I went and bought Miss Clairol and will do a better job on my coloring in 2weeks. oh yes when questioned about charge was told the was because the combed coloring thru ? No idea what that means since Yipes stripes all thru black brown and blond tips . I wanted lighter I got a mess. Never have I been so upset. For everything else, after YEARS of hoping I'd get one good service out of that long list of names - I finally, after 250 dollars for a color And cut that washes out and was uneven - again - I took the time to write. This review is STRICTLY for the haircut. I have gone to Elan for color and Shelby has done an amazing job! However, I got a cut the other day by an "artist" named Lauren who hacked my hair, putting it mildly. I had several inches taken off and stated I wanted a simple blunt cut. She tried telling me she was making my hair lighter and giving it movement. She was giving it the Edward Scissor Hands treatment!! I even stated I was not a fan of layers but she continued to hack away at it. What a mess I have now. And my hair is straight and the ends look like a birds nest sitting around my head. It's simply AWFUL!! Do not let her near your head. What a horror. read more

I had the pleasure of my first visit to Elan Hair Studio this afternoon for a hair color, highlights and a haircut. I was a bit nervous, never having been there before. My nervousness was quickly put at ease, once I sat in the stylist's chair to talk about what I wanted to get out of my appt~color and cut wise. Jessica did my color and highlights. She was extremely knowledgeable and understood my color goals. She went over, step by step, what she was planning to do and the cost, so there would be no surprises. She was easy to talk to and super sweet! The end result hair color was more than I could have inagined! She nailed the color perfectly! As if I thought the color was enough to keep me smiling, I moved onto the cut phase with Taylor. She was just as super sweet and like Jessica, went over what cut I was looking for. Not only did she perfect the cut, she took the time to show me how to style it afterwards, so I could replicate the look at home. I left there feeling like a new woman, smiling ear to ear! A calligraphy cut and balyage by Mischa have totally transformed my hair. I have fine, straight, mousy hair and it always seemed to look kind of flat. I never was able to get that beachy, wavy look I wanted. Mischa has worked magic on my hair. First, she really listened and understood what I was going for when I described my hair troubles/concerns and showed her some pictures of what I was trying to accomplish. I feel like she really took my hair type into consideration with the way she painted on the color to add dimension. The calligraphy cut is a game changer -- it's like I somehow have 25% more hair thickness and finally have the "piecey" ends I never was able to get with a traditional scissor or razor cut. Before this cut, I always blew out my hair for work or going out, but now I air dry quite often and my air dried hair actually has a style to it!! Yes - as some other reviews said, it costs more, but she's cutting your entire head with a tiny little pen blade AND because this type of cut virtually eliminates split ends, the haircuts last much longer so in the long run, the cost probably equals out. read more

i went here for over 10 years, so when my wedding came I didn't give it a second thought. But when my hair wasn't holding a curl and i asked what we could do i was told that they "DIDN'T HAVE TIME" on my wedding day! i paid an arm and a leg for my hair and make-up and ended up doing my make up over myself and my bridesmaids did my hair. funny how a curling iron from the store make curls that held but theirs wouldn't. I will never go back and neither will any of the girls in my party. It was a waste of money. These girls have forgotten where they came from.... its a far cry from the girls they were at Image Group. I decided to try Élan after a less-than-stellar experience at my long-time salon. The salon has a very modern but inviting feel to it and friendly and professional service all around. I got a great haircut and the best highlights/lowlights/Balyage I have had in years..possibly ever. It was pricey but the colorist listened to what I wanted (low maintenance-natural looking blondeness) and pulled off a gorgeous color job. I got it done in mid July and she said she wouldn't need to do a touch up until October--I had my doubts but as it's now mid-September I see she was dead on. A color job that looks natural and amazing for three months is worth every penny in my book. I have gotten more compliments on my hair than I ever have before. Élan is now my salon. read more

Got a cut and a blowout and everything about it was amazing. I was under the impression that it would be a little pricey and Ashley Rose gave me the heads up that if you have a lot of hair and it takes longer it costs more (I truly appreciate the honesty). I cannot say enough, it was worth every penny and it wasn't outrageous. I got $20 off for being referred! My cut and blowout was $40 and I have ALOT of thick, curly hair. First you get greeted by the friendliest front desk staff who introduce themselves and offer you a tour while you wait. Well I didn't wait even 30 seconds and Ashley went over in detail how I wanted my hair! Then I had my hair washed and at the end they used rose essential oil (could have chosen from lemon or peppermint also), and massaged my head and temples. It was fantastic. Hair washed by another person with scalp massage included (nice touch). Coleen was my colorist and stylist. Very professional and personable. Was told there is a lot of continuing education for the stylists so everything is really up to date at Elan. I am absolutely sickened over what I was charged for a blowout. I came here because my regular salon is closed on Sundays and I had an event to attend. This is one of the few blowout bars in the area and the prices on the website SEEMED reasonable, even though definitely more than what I pay at my normal salon. The website has blowouts listed for $35-45 depending on skill level. When I went to checkout, I was charged $66 (!!!!!!!!!) for a blowout. That doesn't include the tip I added on. I was charged extra due to having extensions in my hair and the length. I'm sorry, but if that's a policy, you need to be much more transparent about what you really are going to charge people. AND to add insult to injury, my curls had all fallen out by the time I got home (approx 10 minutes away from salon). All in all a completely disappointing experience at an otherwise very lovely but completely overpriced salon. read more

I came to the salon Elan in Sea Girt after shopping in the neighborhood and it caught my eye. I have been looking for a new stylist after moving from out of town, and really had no one to ask. I finally made an appointment and after coming in, I went over what look I was going for and the stylist recommended a foiless technique to get my hair blonde which involved painting on the bleach with a brush. I had short thin hair so the whole idea of getting the bleach on with a brush seemed like a quicker way and less time to sit in the chair. My scalp got warm during the process and I told the stylist and she said it was normal for this to happen. After waiting she was rinsing me out and I noticed after the brush out my hair was sticky and almost like cotton candy feeling. I noticed my hair was coming out like crazy when my hair was being brushed and I asked if its normal and I was told yes due to chemicals. I know chemicals would make some hair come out but my hair is thin and whispy to begin with so I was getting nervous. She assured me it was ok so I believed her. My hair was on the dirty blonde side to begin with so I was excited to see the results. I went home after my blowout and after a few days I noticed that section of my hair was not normal. I needed to go back for a trim and I brought it up to my stylist again and I was told not to worry it was fine. I got a massage at the sink during my visit and the girl working on me and I started talking. I told her about my earlier visit and she told me the volume used on my hair was too high. She knew the story guess i was the talk of the salon that first time. The stylist should have used a lower volume even if it meant sitting around waiting for it to process, instead of it processing quickly causing damage. I went back and passed a comment to the stylist and she was nice enough to give me two squirts of conditioner to apply to the section, but wouldn't admit anything was wrong. Two weeks later that section still ends up like a rats nest, tangled and sticky like someone put a lollipop in my hair. I noticed after my initial visit the manager walked over to my stylist and whispered in her ear. I know she over processed my hair but she covered up her mistake after management saw what was going on, and stuck with her lies. Now the only remedy is to slowly trim away my hair at another place and my hair is short to begin with and now it's like a guys cut. Not the look I was going for. I can't believe this stylist lied to my face what were they afraid of, me asking for a freebie. I just wish they could be more honest, and fixed my hair instead of saying it was ok. I have to walk around feeling unattractive, what do they care?? read more
