Decided to stop in for a drink on the recommendation of a friend. The building and space is absolutely stunning! Tried a few beers but enjoyed the discussion I had with one of the bartenders better. They do have a pizza bar if you're interested. Would have tried it had I not already eaten.

Italian Pilsner at Elation Brewing, Norfolk
Bruce K.

I spent the afternoon working from Elation. It was rather quiet once the lunch crowd came and went, so I had no problem sitting at my table with my laptop and enjoying the peace. Great beers here and I enjoyed the Italian Pilsner which was served in a surprisingly unstable glass. Tall and thin, it would not take much at all to knock this over. Maybe this is the right glassware for a pilsner? I took extra care with it so it didn't topple. The pizzas looked and smelled great but I had other plans for dinner this evening. The Hive pizza

After many years, I'm happy to see that Elation is still successful on North Colley Avenue. The rotating beers make finding something you enjoy and something new easy to please just about anyone. Cider and wine on tap as well. We love the pizza by Chelsea Bakehouse. The Hive is my favorite! Give it a try. The beertenders are friendly as work fast. They walk around cleaning up glassware and dishes. There is live music on occasion with some lively and fun entertainment.

Long strand of brown hair on my food.

RUN from this place!!! LONG STRAND OF HAIR ON MY PIZZA!!! I am so disappointed writing this review. I wanted to have the best experience, but my friends and I were treated horribly. I ordered the white pizza and experienced eating long brown hair on my food. I have short darker hair, so I knew this was not my own. The horrible experience began with the manager though. Initially, I was told that a manager was not on site and that a refund could not be processed; only a gift card to return back and eat more of the hair filled pizza or to purchase "merch." I thought this was odd, but I obliged. Then the server returned again and asked if there was anything else she could do, like a remake order or a "drink on us." She promised that the remake would not have the hair this time so again I obliged. As I was waiting for the to-go remake order, a "manager" magically appeared and explained that since they were providing the remake, she would be taking the gift card back and proceeded to snatch the gift card off of the table. I was surprised by this as the first girl stated that the pizza would be complimentary for the inconvenience. When this was explained to the manager, she laughed in our faces and said " I cannot believe you all want a gift card and a free pizza." She was extremely rude and condescending and her lack of empathy for the situation spoke volumes. *For context, this establishment did nothing to make the experience right. She simply refunded the order since they obviously took the pizza back. Also, she did not actually refund me all of my money. So, I did not get to have dinner as planned. Bottom line, avoid this place with horrible customer service and hair on your food (pictures provided). Photos are of the pizza w/ hair attached to it. Again, my hair is short and much darker. Extremely disappointed in Elation Brewery. I've heard good things and was really looking forward to trying this location in Norfolk.

Such an awesome place for brews and pizzas! Their salads are also unexpectedly so yummy. Service was great despite very low manning! The place is decoratedly nicely and it was huge, there was even a coffee shop attached to it.

Highland Park Hazy

A dog friendly spot for family and friends to come for some great pizza and beer. My group tried a few different types with myself enjoying the Hyland Park Hazy New England IPA. Very refreshing and paired well with the three personal pizzas we ordered. As a side we got the Caesar salad, but it was very underdressed with too many croutons that we were feeding them to the dog (lol). We enjoyed the live music from a violin trio as we ate and drank. As it was during the period between Christmas and New Years it was rather empty, but this was actually a good thing, as we didn't have to yell to hear each other. I would recommend Elation as a great place for groups and families with kids.

We came at Elation's quiet time - Sunday evening - but it gave us a chance to truly see the space and chat with the staff, which was great. Such an awesome (huge!) venue, which can host anything from workplace functions to weddings and everything in between. Staff is very friendly and the pizzas were delicious. Cheese was my favorite!

Great place to chill on a weekday. They have trivia night, as well as karaoke available for anyone who wants to sing their heart out. Their pizza is from Bakehouse at Chelsea, which I reviewed this bakery like five times by now because I LOVE their pastries. The pizza is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. No one can beat the sourdough crust. The food was amazing, and the vibes indoors are great. There is plenty of space for parties greater than ten. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because I personally don't think their beer is the best. I recommend just doing take-out from here and drink your favorite beer at home. The have some parking spaces available at their own parking lot, but some people will have to find street parking if they are trying to chill here at busy hours.

Perfect neighborhood brew house. Went for my brother's birthday and from the moment we walked in we felt welcomed in the beautiful space. Pizza was outstanding, truly on the podium for best pizza in the city

We stopped here after I'd been attending an interview and I was pretty exhausted at the time. The atmosphere was bustling and decently busy being a Friday evening. I liked the atmosphere and normally would love the energy, but since I was tired we stayed for one beer. We tried two different gose style brews and enjoyed both. They also serve food that looked and smelled really good, but didn't partake this time since we weren't hungry. Staff were very friendly. Overall, it was a cool spot and one I'm sure I'd frequent when feeling less tired!

Pretzels and Lawsons little sip of sunshine

Stopped in here while in town for family weekend at ODU. Caught a night of Oktoberfest. Oompah band and German beer and food offerings. Great atmosphere and good beer selection.

I selected The Veil as the spot for my UYE and enjoyed an evening of talking shop with the great J David H. while we drank those great beers. The Veil is a comfortable spot in the Railroad District and we were sitting in their dining area on the ground floor. Big tables and plenty of room this afternoon. Which we needed because that burger and fries needed elbow room to enjoy. I'd only suggest a pump-based ketchup dispenser as the packet thing is tedious. They opened here in 2019 - well after I was done with my projects in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake - transforming this three-story space into a family-friendly taproom and restaurant. The full kitchen specializes in indulgent smashburgers and Neapolitan-style pizzas that pair perfectly with the brewery's bold stouts, hazy IPAs, and seasonal sours. We didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the Only You Bar & Lounge upstairs. Maybe that's the next visit to Hampton Roads. [Round number review 1500 in Virginia - 911 of 2025 - 24467 overall]

I only experienced the downstairs on my visit with Yelp friend Bruce K. The Happy Hour pricing was a draw as well as stellar reviews. Parking in their own smallish lot on a weekday was no problem. They also have free off street parking too! No debris in sight on my walk up. The signage is the building itself which is darn cool. They also offer outdoor seating. I started off with a Blend which is a Pale and Pilsner if I recall and it was tasty. The counter service was excellent. You can cash tip or card. Customers can also leave a tab open. The seating is wood bench type that comfortably seats six. The aesthetics of the first floor is high ceilings, concrete floors and walls. The kitchen has a garage door over the front. The space was previously a restaurant, but before may have been a factory, or warehouse. Only negative was music was a bit elevated for talking. Prior to Happy Hour concluding I ordered a $6 on special smash burger that comes with fries. No other dudes are available. The regular price is $12, so this is a deal friends. In about 20 minutes burgers and fries were delivered to the table. The look was downright amazing, so pretty much knew this bad boy was gonna be a hitter. The burger comes with double patty, cheese, Dukes mayo, lettuce a pickle. If something else I'm sorry I forgot. The first bite was phenomenal! Fresh bread, perfectly cooked 80/20 beef which was not greasy. The construction was a masterpiece. The thin fries were cooked crispy and seasoned well, yum! Honestly I could eat that burger everyday. The whole experience was exceptional and worthy of a full 5. Totally recommend checking The Veil Brewing out.

One unique thing about this place is that it's connected to Emerson's cigar lounge, so if you're into cigars you can smoke either inside or outside in the designated areas. Not something you see at many breweries. Another thing I appreciated was that there are outdoor areas where kids aren't allowed. A lot of breweries turn into unofficial playgrounds with kids running around everywhere, which can definitely kill the vibe. There were still kids here, but they weren't everywhere, so it struck a nice balance. They also have a good selection of seltzers for people who aren't big beer drinkers, which is a nice option to have. The bartenders were cool and easygoing too. The bathroom was clean, which is always appreciated. The only downside was there were no paper towels, so I had to open the door with freshly washed hands like some kind of hand-hygiene gamble. Not ideal. Overall, a solid place to grab a drink and hang out.

The brewery is very family- and dog-friendly because I saw folks (and dogs) of all ages from kids to senior citizens. Also, there's actually a couple of areas where folks can openly smoke without having to hide in the shadows. Generally speaking, I thought the prices of the beers were pretty comparable to other similar places in the area. Also, the staff was pretty friendly and helpful. Note to dog owners: The outdoor area has a 3-bark rule in that it's highly recommended that if your dog is constantly barking, then you should leave. However, I do not know if that rule is enforced because during our visit, a customer's dog was barking a lot, and no one seemed to care or say anyting.

First of all can I just say WOW!…read more We were excited at the first because we thought the Neat Bird from Chesapeake had a new location in Norfolk Colley Avenue but there chicken sandwich was even delicious here too with a different owner! We met the owner, he is a cool band guy with a mustache name Dand. The drinks he made for us were so good and so was the way he talked with his staff and the way they worked together. My parner and I had seen that they pride themselfes on Scottish eggs, which we were lucky to try and it was also very delicious! We like that they have the vibe and also a board with many events of the community on the wall to check out while you sip on a delicious expresso martini. Good job to the Bird! now dont go opening another restaurant in Chesapeake or we will all be very confused!

You order at the register, and the staff brings the food out to your table. Everyone was attentive, and we had no issues with the service. We ordered the waffle plate, which came topped with fruit alongside eggs and their house sausage. We also tried the Huevos Rancheros, the Sausage Egg & Cheese sandwich, and a build-your-own omelette. For drinks, we ordered the brown sugar cold brew, dulce de leche cold brew, drip coffee, and an espresso martini. The waffle was huge, and the sides were great. My only complaint was that it could have used more fruit, as there were only a few small pieces. The Huevos Rancheros were delicious and came with a generous serving of avocado. The only thing that caught us off guard was the lack of salsa, since in traditional Huevos Rancheros the salsa is a key component. Even so, the dish was still flavorful and filling. The omelette was excellent, and the breakfast sandwich was equally delicious. I was especially impressed by the house-made jam, house-made hot sauce, and the perfectly seasoned home fries. As for the drinks, the brown sugar cold brew was excellent, but the dulce de leche version was far too sweet for my taste. From what I understood, they use two flavored syrups to make it, and I think using smaller portions of each would create a better balance. We ended up adding oat milk and some drip coffee to tone it down. The drip coffee itself was solid and came with free refills. The espresso martini really tied brunch together for me -- strong, well-made, and delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed both the food and the experience, and we'll definitely be back.
