They know their tailoring! Had some pants shortened, and they did a great job and timely manner, and I appreciate their talent.

The zipper on my two favorite wilnter coats wore out and I was temped to just stop wearing them or throw them away. It was then that a trusted friend recommended Elegant Tailoring. I took the two coats over and was told, by Eliana that it was no big deal to replace the zippers. My two coats would be ready in two weeks. In two weeks I picked up my coats and was simply thrilled at the quality of the work. I discovered this business about six months ago and quickly FELL in LOVE. This place, and these multi-talented tailors are one of my happiest finds of this year! The first thing you'll note as you walk inside; floor-to-ceiling windows and natural light. Cheerful spaciousness. This kind of environment is optimal in lending itself to the mind and creativity of an artist. Meet the artists: Natasha and Yelena. They are smiling, friendly, and kind. They are like seamstresses of haute couture and bring their unique Eastern European perspective to sewing and tailoring. When I was growing up my mom used to take particular items, like hers or my dad's suits, clothes that required a higher level of sewing skill, to a Polish seamstress named Anna. She lived near us and worked from her home. My mother could sew, but certain things required a more advanced knowledge. While others said they, too, could tailor or do the job for less, my mother said it was not the same and always took her special things to Anna, who had a particular, a certain way of knowing and sewing, that others simply could not 'see.' I feel Natasha and Yelena are like this. I have brought several garments to these extraordinarily talented people. I've had hems and sleeves taken-up, waists and pant legs taken-in or let-out, sides taken-in or out, pockets mended or entirely removed for a smoother look, jeans made right which required removing, then restitching to perfection, the classic blue jean 'double stitch.' Name it, they've done it. Everytime it's like adding a new piece to my wardrobe, only better, because now, it's custom. We all have something really cool hanging in our closet or folded away in a dresser drawer. An older garment (or maybe not so old), but still classy or 'on trend.' We hang on, saying we'll wear it again someday, but, for now, the waist is too big, or too tight, or something's off.  A 'one of a kind' near-impossible to duplicate item, we put away, our mind continuing to keen toward that, 'one day in the future' thought. But, now, now, you learn your special garment can be custom fit to your unique specifications and body contours. Like a great haircut, custom-fit clothes DO have the tendency to make you feel a bit more confident. You walk a little taller, straighter, lighter, flow a bit better. Everything old is new again. It's a whole new day and everything's about to change and feel a little more right in your world. At Elegant Tailoring - I've found that QUALITY and CUSTOMER SATISFACTION is the goal. They mix/match/fix/custom-fit nearly anything you present. They examine all factors and troubleshoot and puzzle it out from every angle. They will also be straight with you if they feel the cost might not be worth it, or might prove too much to pass on to you. They are experienced, honest and meticulous. I get excited everytime I pick up my garments and can't wait to slip them on. Garments that these fine tailors tweak and make perfect. The older woman here with an accent is unbelievably rude. We came in to have her tailor my boyfriend's suit coat and pants. She said to us "could you not find your size?" about the jacket. She pinned it all up and told us to "go look for another one and call if you find one, if you don't call by the 8th then we will proceed with it" We looked around a bit but didn't find anything, so we never called, as we wanted the jacket done. Fast forward a couple weeks, I call two days before we needed it, wondering why we haven't heard from her. She says, "you never called, I've been waiting for you to call" I said, "it was our understanding that if we didn't call that you were going to proceed." she insisted that I was wrong, even though that is what both my boyfriend and I heard her say. She added, "You need it by thursday? You're killing me, you never called, you were supposed to give me at least a week" I told her that if it's a problem we can go somewhere else, she rudely said, "do that" Then we go in, and she says, "I didn't expect you to call two days before you needed it, you were supposed to call me, this is not my fault" We again told her that she had told us that if we DIDNT CALL, she would PROCEED with it. She just rudely says, "no" She knew the date we needed it by, so why not call us if she was waiting and confused? Normally I would understand miscommunications but the way she was so rude about it is what got me upset. Never apologized or anything just insisted we were wrong. which BOTH my bf and I had heard what she had said to us. So four days before my brothers wedding were forced to find another tailor. Horribly rude place. Loui Men's wear saved the day for us, go there instead. Super nice guy. read more

I had a dress to alter which could have been tricky. There were both rhinestones (waistline detail) and metal studs (on the bodice) to contend with when taking the dress in on the sides, as well as some fairly delicate netting over the shoulders that needed to be adjusted. Elegant Tailoring did such a fantastic job that I would come back here in a heartbeat for any other tailoring. They were not only on-time, but you would never have any idea that the dress had been altered at all -- that's how seamless it all looked. The fitting was quick and straight-forward, and although I had to pay a small amount extra because of the complicated embellishments, the overall rate was still extremely reasonable. One nice extra touch -- I had bought the dress at a deep discount an noticed one missing rhinestone on the bodice (which is probably a part of why the dress was discounted), but shrugged it off figuring nobody except me would notice. The seamstress here actually paid close enough attention that she noticed the missing stone and used one of the ones from the excess fabric to replace it.This showed an extra attention to detail and a thoughtfulness that made me feel really fortunate to have picked Elegant Alterations. I swear this place is run by the lady from Orange is the New Black. I brought my backpack in because the strap was busted. I simply needed them to reattach the strap to the bag with some heavy duty thread. 1st visit: A newer lady said "no problem" bring it in tomorrow because I am new here and we are closing soon. 2nd visit: Orange is the New Black lady: "No I can't do this.... NOPE 3rd visit: I begged the OitNB lady to please fix my backpack, I know you can do it. She said "ok I will see what I can do" It has been a month now, and my backpack is working great! I went in for a few more complex alterations earlier in the summer. Two suits, to be precise, with substantial alterations. Overall, I was very happy with the work she did. The suits fit great, and I got plenty of compliments on them. The price was pretty steep--around $120. However, there were some minor disappointments in workmanship. The top of the center seam of the back of one suit was bunched up a bit, resulting in a sort of 'hump' at the base of the neck which was pretty annoying. Additionally, the hem on one of the pairs of pants began to come undone throughout the summer, to the point where I had to do a hack job and re-sew it myself. Aside from these minor things, however, the suits looked and felt fantastic, and I'll continue to go here. read more

I took a Karl Lagerfeld dress in that was too big at the waist and fitted in the bust and hips. The tailor in Nickel's arcade told me he couldn't do it because my hips were too big. She altered it perfectly for 10 dollars. Looks great and you can't tell it was taken in! read more

I took my bridesmaid dress and my boyfriend took a suit to Elegant Tailoring last summer. The seamstress said my dress would be $20 to take in the sides and I was thrilled to be getting such a great deal. When I went in to try on the dress after the alterations, I was not so happy. There was just SOMETHING about the dress that didn't look quite right anymore, and the straps were suddenly too long. I was told it would be another $30 to fix the straps "because it's two layers of fabric, not one"... and I had no choice but to cough up the extra fee. The end product was OK, but not what I was hoping for, and certainly more expensive that I expected. My boyfriend's suit was a bigger train wreck. He also needed some small, simple alterations to take in the jacket and pants. The result was absurdly tight in the jacket and waste. My boyfriend expressed concerns but the seamstress told him that's how it was supposed to fit. And sadly, there was no time to fix it before my sister's wedding, so he was stuck. read more

Came into this shop to get my coat shortened in the sleeves, came back to pick it up, still to long. No big deal, come back and it feels a little short. I take it and decide to wear it for a few hours the next day but decide to go back in and ask if it seems just a little short because it felt uncomfortable and a little short, I was met with a "No, it is not to short. First you complain it was too long and we redo it, now you complain it's to short, nothing will be done." When I left it there the second time It was still to long and I wasn't angry nor was I complaining. I was not complaining and that lady is incredibly rude and I will not come back. This is me complaining, I just wanted my clothes to fit comfortably on me, that's all. Sorry for coming back a third time. read more

I am 5'2" so it is totally impossible to actually find pants that fit. These ladies did a very nice job with a pretty simple hemming job. It was done on time and for a good price. I took some pants and a blouse to be taken in. When I went to pick them up the blouse was not taken in the way she said she would do it, it was still to big. At first she said, it fits fine and she did what she said she would do . No she did not, and didn't want to fix it the way I ask. When I showed her how big the top was and explained this was my very favorite blouse and I could not wear looking like it looked, it was still to big. She finally agreed to fix it the way I wanted it done. I am very small and need all shirts altered lately. When I went back to pick up my blouse She had ruined my blouse. I have no idea what she did, but the whole thing is altered so uneven, I don't think it can be fixed, my Beautiful favorite blouse, not to mention it cost 150.00 darn dollars. To me that's very expensive, but I wore it on special occasion. My pants were not even altered.. I ask her about it, she tried to tell me she did alter them. I had tried them on and they to were still the same as when I took them in . I turned them inside out and ask her to explained what she did. She looked and actually touched the thread and said right here . I could see she didn't touch those pants, the thread was exactly in the same spot and no different from the thread it came with . Now listen to this, this con said they use the same thread that is on the pants. To resew. OMG! At that point I thought, lady you are unbelievable . What's worst is she sat there with a snide smile on her face, of course I had already payed for the work . I just took my clothing and left . Thinking wow, wow, wow, I wonder how many other people's clothing she has ruined. My blouse was a very favorite blouse, I know I can neverever find one to replace it. One good thing, At least she didn't touch my pants. I can find some other person who's honest and capable of doing alterations. I give this place a minus five star, please, please, be very careful with your items if you are silly enough to take them to this place, after I have told you this horrible customer experience. My first experience with them was awesome. I had a nice pair of jeans that needed to be hemmed and was nervous to take them anywhere. The last pair I had done at Nordstrom's and they turned out awful. The ladies here hemmed them perfectly and were able to fix the other pair. I also had them make a dance costume top for me (I teach dance classes) and it turned out exactly like I had envisioned it. Great experience here, I would definitely come back. read more

Definitely one of the less expensive places in town. I've taken a lot of things here just because of the prices. Often I've been perfectly pleased, but at least two times they've ruined pants by hemming them incorrectly or to the wrong length. One time they reimbursed me for the jeans and the other time (a less large error) didn't charge for the tailoring, but still, it's frustrating. If you're just looking to get something simple done inexpensively go for it, but don't take anything irreplaceable or anything that you really care about. read more

I brought in a coat. It was to long so I got it shortened and when I went to pick it up, it was still to long, no big deal, left it for a day to get it a little more. My problem was I felt like the coat afterwards was a little to short after wearing it for a day, so I took it back and asked if it looked short, the lady was rude I was met with "No it is not to short, you complained the first time that it wasn't short enough, now you say it's to short. No more will be done with it" that's flat out rude, I'm taking my clothes somewhere else as I don't appreciate someone telling me I'm complaining when I just want my stuff to feel comfortable on me and really just wanted a second opinion. I brought in a simple strapless bridesmaids dress to be taken in on the sides. At first everything seemed to be fine until I came back in to try on the dress. It was still too large in some places and the sewn line on the zipper side did not reach the bottom crisply. They re-pinned the dress and said it would be ready in a couple days. However, I received a phone call a few hours later informing me that the dress "could not be fixed" and I would need to come back in to figure out what to do. They suggested I come in 3 days later (not sure why); only 2 days before the wedding. That wasn't going to happen so I came in that same evening to figure out what to do. At this point, I was rudely told that they couldn't fix the dress and I was to still pay them the $45 they originally asked for. The dress did not fit and they had lost the ribbon sash that was left with the dress. After frantically looking around the store for 15 minutes one of the employees found the sash in the trash can and giggled. Not the response I would have hoped for but it was found none the less. On to the dress fitting now.....I kindly asked if they could just return the dress to the original size I brought it in at and I would go on my merry way. The woman rudely threw (not kidding) my dress on the floor and told me to "deal with it." At this point I again kindly asked them to return the dress to the original size and I would "deal with it" at that point. After 15 minutes of discussion it was decided that the dress would be returned to its original size and they would call me when it was ready. The next day I received a call and went to pick up my dress. After trying on the dress to ensure that it fit (still too big) I was asked to pay the full amount of $45. I nicely refuted this price seeing as essentially nothing was done to the dress and I had just now lost almost two weeks of time on it. After hearing that I was not willing to pay this amount the dress was again thrown at me and I was told to never come back to the store because they did not want my business. You don't have to tell me twice! This place will never again receive my business and I hope that it will help others avoid any dress fiascoes. read more

Brought a pair of pants in to be tailored. Given the poor reviews here and on Google, I didn't want to bring in more than one pair until I saw how they handled the first. Smart move on my part. I asked for the pants to be shortened by 2 inches, they only shortened them by about 1.4 inches, and on top of that the hemming looked bad. Won't be going back. This is my first ever Yelp review which I felt compelled to write after I went in for some simple hemming and asked the tailor to leave a bit of room at the end of each piece (in case anything ended up being too short). I came back and the hems were not only uneven on several pieces (others looked like I hemmed them myself), but several pieces were indeed too short. Worst of all, she ruined a $500 Tory Buch dress with an uneven hem, and it is now too short to be able to take it elsewhere to get it redone. There were even places on the hem where she stopped one line of thread and started another thread next to the first that runs parallel for a bit. She kept telling me that the uneven hem was normal and asking to see my ticket to check that I had indeed asked her to leave extra room (whether she wrote it down correctly amidst her hasty acknowledgements that she heard me is another story), which was moot anyway at that point. read more
