As a CSULB student I've always passed this salon and thought how odd it would be to get my hair cut between classes. I made an appointment for a Friday at 2 (I would recommend making one even though a guy came in as a walk in) and was seen immediately. My barber's name was Jenny (?) and she was great. She did exactly what I asked and was very efficient. My hair type is coarse, meaning it can be a bit hard to cut. However, she was more than skilled at taming it and did it in literally 15 minutes. She offered to shampoo my hair but I declined since I had already washed my hair. The total price was $17, very affordable for a salon haircut and very much worth the quality of the cut. I would highly recommend visiting if you need a quick cut on campus, or if you're looking for a regular barber. read more

I got a haircut/shampoo a while ago back when CSULB was open, and it was great, but the service was uh, something else. I just wanted a shampoo and cut, and as the lady cut my hair, she kept bringing up how damaged it was. I knew it was damaged which is why I came for a cut, but it's not something people enjoy hearing as they get a haircut. Her and the other lady wouldn't stop talking about it, and then they began speaking in another language. If I learned anything from the nail salons, it's that they're probably shit-talking. She ended up blow drying and styling and in my head I'm like "hm I didn't ask for this". Sure enough I ended up getting charged for the blow drying and styling ($6 more than I thought). I wasn't too upset because my hair looked and felt BOMB, but I was just gonna do all that at home. Sneaky, shady move if you ask me. So I paid in cash, slightly more than the total, and wasn't given change back. I always tip hairdressers, but I don't think it's right to keep the change unless the client said it was ok, especially after adding services they didn't ask for. It's affordable and they do a great job, but they're shady and don't make the client feel good at all. I'd stay away unless you don't care about customer service and just need a cut. But call them out if they try to give you services you didn't ask for! read more

I guess I came in at a pretty good time, considering a lot of reviews had said not to come at certain times, etc. I came around 4pm and met Rany. She's really nice, knows what she's doing. All I needed was a quick trim, and some bangs. She definitely gave me the cut I was looking for. She only trimmed off as much as what I needed & asked for, and for the bangs made sure I was comfortable with my hair. I say the price for $25 is pretty good with shampoo/conditioner, a cut, and blowdrying my hair. a lot of people were coming in for a cut though so its best to set an appointment, or take your chances like i did lol For the time, care, and service that I received I give this place 5 stars. Went for a gel manicure after seeing posted around campus for $10 dollars (Holyshit batman, that's a good deal). I already had gel polish on, was told she would charge me extra for soaking it off, $5. Okay, I've never had to pay for that, but okay (also, we were mid process when she told me). What's even better, even though I paid extra for it, she didn't get all the polish off So I pick a colour, pale pink. and she starts doing my nails. The first coat looks splotchy, but I am optimistic that the second coat will fix it. It doesn't. I don't know if it's how she was applying the polish or the polish itself. It looks bad. If I wanted a manicure that looks like it did it myself in a dimly lit bathroom, I'd do it myself. Not worth it.... Go somewhere else & pay full price! read more

Spur of the moment thing, got my hair cut by Rany! Upon walking in I was greeted by the most welcoming smile. She gave me an undershave. It's nice and even- she takes her time and makes sure you're happy with the cut, even with mine being a simple shave :-) 2/17/16 Update: Got my haircut last week and kinda.... overpriced for what it was. I just wanted a re-undershave and an inch off the rest of my hair. Got charged $20, a huge rip off IMO. I asked for the undershave and a straight across haircut. and the woman cutting my hair started spraying all this unnecessary product in it, took like 45 minutes to do it which is never how long it takes to do it at other places and charged the crap out of me for it. I've had my undershave redone by the two other women working here before and it's literally only taken like 5 minutes. read more

I've always wanted to check out this salon since I've been a student here for 5 years now and I'm graduating this year. I figured why not just try it since it's conveniently located on our campus, so I finally did yesterday and was not disappointed. I was in dire need of a maintenance cut for my pixie cut and I had asked a different salon how much that would cost. They wanted to charge me the same $65 just for a trim so I nope'd the heck out of there and came here instead. At Elektric, it's only $20 for a haircut, but for me was an additional $5 since I wanted a blow dry. They take walk-ins too! All you need is to come and sign yourself in on their clipboard and wait to be called up next. They take both cash and credit. Jenny did a great job with my hair. I showed her a picture of what my hair looked like when I had it previously cut short 5 months ago and although it didn't look exactly like that, she still did a great job at mimicking what I had. I mainly just wanted the bangs to be a bit long and my sides cut short enough to be above my ears. It was a pleasure getting to know both her and Rany; they're really friendly! I had an appointment this morning and was so excited to get my first haircut in a while. Two women in the shop (I don't know their names) wouldn't stop talking about how dry and damaged my hair is. She said she didn't even want to offer styling it because it's so dry. I understand that I have colored hair that has been processed, but they continued to go on and on about it and it ruined my morning. Before I left, one woman gave me a stengthening spray to put on after I wash because she was so worried about the condition of my hair. That was was nice I guess but I came out of the appointment feeling emberassed and angry with a haircut I'm not happy with. Please consider being a little more courteous with your guests. read more

Came around 1-2pm on a Tuesday for a haircut, and I didn't have to wait at all. Had a Cambodian lady do my hair, and she was the sweetest! I wish I had gotten her name because she did a really wonderful job with my haircut. I showed her a photo of a style that I wanted, and she did a great job of replicating it. She also offered to blowdry and style my hair for an extra $10. I decided to take it because I figured, why not :) By the end of it, the total came out to be $40. It might be a little bit pricey for a college student, but for someone who doesn't get a cut too often, it isn't bad at all. My hair was also on the thicker and longer side so I'm thinking that also might play a factor in the pricing. Regardless, I'd recommend going here since it's incredibly convenient - especially if you find yourself having trouble to fit in a haircut in your schedule between work and school. read more

Overall, this hair salon is OK.... I paid $23 for a trim & a couple layers. When I first when in to make an appointment , Ranny greeted me and was nice to make an appointment for me later. But when I went in I had a different hairstylist. Her hair was red and long and she was wearing a lot of makeup. She was tough on my hair and not very talkative . She cut my hair in like 5 minutes, (I don't know if that's bad or good but I have to see it closer when I get home). Anyway she didn't even put anything on my hair before cutting until I mentioned it. Then she washed my hair using her nails real hard that it felt like she was clawing at me but it was really thorough. After she blow dried it I looked like a big puff ball, but it always does after I use a blow drier so I don't blame her but thought she would use something to tame it . Decided to get a quick layered trim haircut and one of the ladies, Annette was super nice and friendly! I can tell that the price depends on your cut and what you want to get. Mines wasn't too bad, $22, which included a wash, cut, and blow dry! She did a really good job to my straight tacky hair and gave me long layers, which I wanted and gave it a slight bit of a U shape when my hair is placed at the back. I have been going to Elektric for over four years now. I have had layering done, short hair cuts, longer hair cuts, my hair dyed dark, highlights, side bangs, straight across bangs, and going from dark brown hair to blonde hair (gradually and within a few visits). Rany the owner is amazing, not only does she keep her prices reasonable but she's super sweet and always does an incredible job. My most recent visit I got a layered cut and blonde highlights. I am so happy with the results, the color turned out beautiful and I can't thank Rany enough for continuing to give me the look I want every time. I went to Electric Hair for the first time this January and I'm so happy that Marvin Cruz did my hair! He did such a great job, I'm so happy with the result! He really loves what he does and prefers to ask you before he cuts or colors your hair in order to make sure that he understands what exactly you want. I've been going to Ronny @ this salon for over 2 years and I wouldn't change it, she's awesome, she takes her time with u. My hair would feel brittle n dry after dyes, once I found Ronny my hair feels very healthy n not damaged at all. Best haircut I've ever gotten. Made an appointment a couple days in advance and was seen right on time when I showed up. My stylist's name was V and she was great. The haircut was quick and very VERY nice. She even washed my hair afterward so that I wouldn't be itchy all day during the rest of my classes from the cut hairs that didn't find their way off me during the cut. I got my hair cut the other day by Melissa and I absolutely love it. I came as a walk in and I only waited for about ten minutes. All the workers were super friendly and helpful! My hair went past my waist and I still wanted to keep it relatively long so I showed Melissa a picture of what I had in mind and she did it EXACTLY like the picture!! I've had my haircut here twice. The first time was a bit rushed but the cut was decent and at an affordable price. This last time the experience was much better and very relaxing.
