Unfortunately, I left feeling completely disappointed and more stressed than relaxed. I went on a Monday morning hoping to avoid crowds and have a peaceful day. Things started off on the wrong foot almost immediately. While I was simply checking the size of the uniform, holding it up to see if there was a difference in the width, an employee came over and snatched the second pair out of my hand as if I was trying to take something I shouldn't have. It was not a great way to start when I had barely gotten in the door. Next, the layout was also really confusing. The spa is spread across multiple floors with different sections and stairways, but no one explained where anything was or how to navigate the space. I spent a lot of time in the morning trying to figure out where I was and it felt like I was nosing around someone else's house: uncomfortable. The biggest issue, though, was communication. A woman in the locker room offered my niece and me a deal for two massages for $140 ($70 each) and asked me to send the money through Zelle. I sent $170, including what I thought was a generous tip of over 20%. She arranged the appointment, but I didn't confirm what type of massage I wanted. I foolishly assumed they would ask before starting. We had lunch beforehand - the food was delicious and the portion was huge. Unfortunately, they don't offer to-go boxes, so I needed to reschedule our massages in order to finish my meal. Before even finishing my meal, I went to the massage counter to see if we reschedule our appointments. A younger patron helped translate at the massage desk, but she needed my time slot and took it for herself. She told me the woman would help me reschedule and then left. When I tried to figure out my new time, the interaction felt rushed and dismissive. I was given time without being asked if it worked for me, and when I asked about other options, I was told there were none. I would have cancelled but had already paid, so I took the L. When it was finally time for the massage, we were taken back without anyone asking what type of massage we wanted. I realized my mistake because it was a much more intense massage style and is not my preference. At that point though, after so many rushed and uncomfortable interactions, I honestly didn't feel comfortable advocating for myself to tell them I wanted reflexology. The final issue happened while I was changing before leaving. The same woman who arranged the massage came over and told me I hadn't paid enough tip. I was confused because... it was a tip. She told me I owed another $20 and (to add insult to injury) that I couldn't get my license back from the front desk until I paid. That brought the tip to over 35% on a service I didn't choose and didn't enjoy. I had been to Bathhouse once before as a gift and had a fine time, so I decided to book a deck chair by the pool on my own dime and try it again. Big mistake. Huge. There was a long line to check in. My self check-in kept bringing up an error, so I had to wait to speak to someone. I show my confirmation email and the front desk person tells me "someone else must have booked the same bed and the exact same time, so you don't actually have a reservation" why do I have a confirmation email/number then, but okay. I can make you a new reservation now. Great! That will be $179. Uh, that is way more expensive than when I booked. Yes, we have dynamic pricing. Okay well, I'm not going to pay a premium because of a digital error. She doesn't have the authority to change the price but I can pay the new price and she'll refund the difference. Okay great fine, I just want to sit by the pool I say. After a few more error messages (the whole check on process took over 30 min), I get a QR code, check in, no further instructions from anyone, about where to go, how the lockers work, where the towels are. As I'm figuring this stuff out, many other people are on the same mystery quest. The guests are helping each other out, as there are no attendants to give guidance. I get in line to get on the elevator to the pool, more lining up like wet cattle. When we make it upstairs they break everyone in to two lines, day passes (I didn't know this was an option to access the roof) and day bed reservations. We wait 20 minutes and the day pass line is released to go wherever they like. Huh? Two women skip the line and walk to the podium, cutting in front of everyone. The host turns to the line and says I'm going to help these ladies first and people behind me pipe up Uh no, why? We have been waiting. He says Well you can figure it out amongst yourselves. This seems to be a theme with Bathhouse, figure it out yourself. Eventually the line cutting women go join the line, thanks to the people who'd been waiting. I finally give my name and I'm pointed to a bed in a dark corner by the elevator, not even in sight of the pool. No thanks, I said. I'm here to sit by the pool, I can't even see it over here. I was second in line, all the beds by the pool are open, surely I can move over. Nope, these beds were reserved earlier than you, so they aren't available. The hosts were snippy, unhelpful, honestly felt like they just wanted to argue. Maybe my original reservation would have garnered me seat anywhere near the pool, but I was unwilling to do any more advocating for myself to enjoy this expensive experience. Okay great, I'd just like to leave. Okay she says and stares at me. I would like to get a refund and leave, I clarify. I paid to sit in the sun by a pool and thats not possible, so I'll take off. We don't offer same day cancellations she says. SAME DAY CANCELLATIONS?! I just want what I booked, or to leave, this should be so simple. We look at each other for a good minute. She sighs and taps on her tablet. "You no longer have a reservation or a day pass so you need to exit now.". Great. My pleasure. Aire had a wonderful onboarding with a detailed explanation of everything available and where to go for it. The massages were mostly rub-downs and were very relaxing (I fell asleep during mine) but not therapeutic, per se. Aire also has salt scrubs you can do, which is a nice touch, and overall the pools are immaculately maintained during the day. So if you're deciding between the two and have enough money to go to either, I recommend spending a touch more on Aire. It's worth the difference.

We purchased the VIP Experience (Monday-Thursday, entrance between 12-1 p.m.) for $138, and it was absolutely worth it. It included unlimited access to all of the spa amenities for the entire day, plus access to an exclusive private lounge on the top floor. We could order food and drinks, and the staff delivered everything directly to us in the lounge. I believe there are 14 different spa experiences, and we made it our mission to try every single one--multiple times! We spent the entire day there and enjoyed every inch of the facility. My favorite experiences were: The Grand Banya The Cold Plunge The Snow Room The Himalayan Salt Room And my absolute favorite--the Event Sauna Ritual The Event Sauna Ritual was incredible. It's a 30-minute aromatherapy experience that promotes circulation and relaxation using hand-tied oak leaf bundles and snowballs infused with essential oils. For my entrée, I had the Miso Salmon. It normally comes with asparagus and quinoa, but I substituted the quinoa for mashed potatoes. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were creamy, and the entire dish was delicious. This place also has a quiet area to lounge, several saunas with different medical properties, and a gym. The amenities here can go on and on. They definitely balance health with adding a coworking space. It's also interesting they have an infinity pool that shows NYC from the rooftop. The place also has a seasonal grill area and other food court options so you don't have to leave.
