He really knew how to apply the right techniques and pressure to ease the tightness I had in my shoulders and back. I like really hard pressure and also to be able to relax during the massage. I liked the location of this place and that they give you a bottle of water and a chocolate after your massage. The lobby was clean and the receptionist very nice. Now on to the massage. I'm going to preface this review that I'm fairly new to getting massages and I may have not asked the right questions prior to booking my appointment. Booking a session was pretty easy. The guy who picked up the phone was nice and I told him I wanted to have my upper back worked on. I prefer to have a female therapist but none were available and since I was on a tight schedule I went ahead and booked a session with Collin. Collin was a really nice guy but be warned he is a talker! So if you prefer to just relax and get a massage he's probably not the one for you. Additionally he told me he only does medium to hard pressure and I again being new to massage prefer light to medium (which I told him) but since we were already in the appointment I felt like I was committed and had to proceed (and later regretted since some portions of my massage kinda hurt!). I also asked him to focus mostly on my upper back since I get chronic knots there but since I just came back from a vacation my legs were a little sore but I still wanted mostly my shoulders and back. Well I should have been more clear like 80% of the time I want my back worked on and 20% on my legs instead I got like 50/50. About 5ish minutes into the massage itself Collin told me he does clinical massage (I still am not sure what that is) and not relaxation massage (in my head I was like yea I can tell but it's not like I can get up and walk out now/am too polite). Normally when I get a massage I always wish I had booked more time but this time I was glad when it was done. Sad thing is my neck feels more sore/bruised then when I started but at least some of my shoulder knots have been worked out though my shoulders still are sore. Not sure if I'll be back because with the one time rates it's a pretty pricey appointment. though the guy who booked my appointment let me have a first timer discount. The wellness packages look like a super good deal though not sure I want to commit now since this last visit. read more

Great staff at the front desk that is will to explain how the massage pricing is set. Since it was my first time, I went for the 20 minute for $20. Overall the pressure and strength of the massage therapist was great. Dom would ask throughout the massage if the pressure was too strong, or if I needed more. What I appreciated most was the consultation at the end. Dom took about 10 to explain all the issues I had from neck pain to shoulder issues I had from past injuries. That was a plus compared to the other places I usually go to. Pricing is not to far off from other places I go, so I'd definitely go back for the 55 mins/$49 promo for first timers. read more

I received a massage from Malu recently and she was amazing. She is strong and gets into the focus areas extremely well. I was experiencing hip pain and she helped me out a lot. She is also extremely fast and efficient with her work. This allows her to cover the full body as well as do clinical work both really well in the span of an hour session. This is a wonderful place to get a fantastic therapeutic massage! I have been getting massages regularly for the past 6 months and have never had a negative experience. The rooms are very CLEAN and the restroom area is well stocked with a variety of niceties. The desk staff are courteous, friendly, helpful and professional - how many places can you say that about? Jesse, the therapist that I have been going to is amazing. The work he does to make me feel good after abusing my poor body behind a computer desk is nothing short of a miracle. He pays attention to all the "sore spots" and definitely gets my knots to relax. My boyfriend sees Barbara and he raves about how great she is at getting his tight shoulders and arms to relax and his lower back and legs are much looser after she works his knots out. He is a mechanic so he comes in all bent out of shape and she straightens him out without hurting him. Had a 55 min massage today for first time at this business with Vicky as a B-day gift. Great job! She really knows how to greet you, get to know what you need, and manage the time. She was careful to ensure that everything was perfect (lights, sound and pressure). I was told she is new but she definitely has the experience and professionalism that I typically see in much more experienced masseuses. I have neck and back pain and Vicky did a great job to work those areas, checking that I was satisfied before moving on to other areas. I am an Elements Wellness Program member, and being a member makes it affordable for me to get a massage every month. Lula has given me the best massages of my life! I get a Swedish massage with medium pressure and have her focus on my neck and shoulders. Other massage therapists have made my neck an afterthought, but Lula really focuses on it and works out the tension. She uses mostly long strokes at a moderate to quick pace, which I prefer to slow strokes. When she is working on a tense area, it is never too painful, and even if it is a little painful, she focuses on the tension for a few strokes, then incorporates more relaxing strokes. At the beginning of the session, she warms up my shoulders with a hot towel, which is always a treat. I am so glad I found Lula, and I only schedule appointments with her. read more

I was then greeted by my massage therapist, Lily who was beyond wonderful, I get a lot of body work done and I can tell you this girl is gifted, her hands seem to have some special powers that know where to go, she is very intuitive and her massage is very unique, she combines many different styles in one and makes it unique for your own body, she is STRONG, oh and if you want a relaxing deep massage this is your girl, its like her hands are guided by some special force. Beware, their membership program is a scam! I went for a massage and after the massage I signed up for their program with the person convincing me that I can still call and cancel the membership before the payment date (it was ~15 days from the date of the massage). However, when I called to cancel the plan (~5 days before the payment due date), they said that they cannot cancel the plan, and that somebody else will call me. The other person called 2 days later and said that they cannot cancel the plan since they already went ahead and charged my card and that I needed to cancel 30 days in advance. When I asked how is that possible given that the date of the charge is still 3 days in the future so there is no reason for the card to be charged, the person on the phone said they will call me back after they discuss this with somebody else. They never called back, and of course, I see the charge on my credit card!!! This is extremely unprofessional, and no matter how good the actual massage might be, this place is not worth it. I am extremely disappointed with this kind of management. read more

I have worked with several message therapists and Anthony is one of the best. He uses a variety of techniques to alleviate the pain that I often have in my back and hips. His soft spoken manner is very soothing. He is attentive to what my body needs at each particular visit. He often finds knotted muscles were I was not expecting them. I have been a member at this place for a few months now. The facility is great, the therapists seem to be skilled - at least better than some other places I have been. Folks at the front desk are nice and welcoming. Seems all great, BUT for the past 3 months they can't seem to be their billing system correct. I have asked the problem to be fixed and they told me a manager would contact me; however I am still waiting to hear from a manager. I requested to terminate my membership -signed a termination agreement; and yet they continue to bill my credit card. Since they didn't cancel my membership, I figure I would use the massage they already charged me for. I was thinking may be it was a glitch in the system and it got resolved. But NO this month they went ahead and charged my credit card twice! I have called again and requested the issue to be resolved, I was told a manager would contact me. Let's wait and see if they manage to contact me within this year's time!!!!! Great massage place, but sadly their billing system is horrible. My recommendation: Don't become a member!!! read more

I exercise every day which includes running, boot camp, lifting, and high intensity cardio. I do this after sitting at the office all day. Therefore, my body is essentially a series of several large knots and tight muscles. Tasha is the BEST. She carefully listens to my concerns, adjusts pressure for sensitive areas and I leave feeling like myself again. I'm so happy to have found someone I can go to for repeat services. If you're looking for a chain massage parlor, Elements is your answer. It's located in super cute downtown San Mateo. Parking is an issue just because it's super busy both in the evenings and on the weekends so definitely plan ahead for parking searching. They ask that you get there 10-15 minutes ahead of your appointment time if you're a new client so that you can fill out paperwork. The waiting area is very calm feeling and the staff is very calm and friendly. My therapist took me right away and spoke with me about any trouble spots that I was interested in having him focus on. He asked about things such as blanket heat and having an extra heating pad as well, both of which I opted into. The massage was only 30 minutes since I was using a yelp complimentary free massage card but it definitely left me wanting more! The therapist played calming music & didn't chat with me, which helped me to relax in a quiet and calming environment. He spent time on my back, legs, shoulders, and neck, which were all done at the perfect pressure. I definitely recommend!! read more

I've been going here for a while. Well, for me it is a while as I'm not a frequent massage person, But in the past few years, I've started going more often and more consistently to stave off tennis and swimming injuries. During that time, I discovered Elements and fell for their central location and the member package. It's been a very pleasant relationship, and I especially enjoy the warm welcomes you get from Ben and the other receptionists. Today was a return to a massage since maybe April - a good 8 month hiatus. I was randomly paired with the therapist Hailey. She was REALLY good. The two main reasons why I loved the massage from her was 1) it felt so smooth. There was this zen about it that seemed to flow from her hands to my skin amd muscles, blood, bones, knots and all. And 2) I fell asleep. I think I even twitched. It was so relaxing! I felt slightly drugged when I left and even exclaimed that it was the best massage I ever had! Hailey was very professional and polite. She asked for feedback at the beginning of the session. At the end without any prompting, she offered tips for how I can get rid of some knots on my own and highlighted the areas of my body that were especially tight. That's some great service! I had a decent massage here, though I thought it was strange that the masseuse massaged my feet through the sheets as opposed to directly....not exactly the nicest feeling. I also didn't like that the massage session is calculated to includes time for consultation (why is this even needed...this is not a physical therapy session) and dressing. I much prefer the Burke Williams style (bell rings at start and end of 90 minute session), which makes you feel like you're getting all the time you paid for....albeit for a lot more money. Ben is the best massage therapist at Elements San Mateo. I have been going to Elements about 1 1/2 years and have found it to be extremely clean and inviting. The only problem is they have replaced some of the front end people several times and I liked the original ones that opened the place much better. The massage Ben gives is very therapeutic for me as I broke my neck in 2009 and so massage is a medical necessity and Ben does a great job for me and my condition. read more
