I wish I could leave a negative star rating because this person doesn't even deserve ONE star! I have NEVER been so insulted in my life to have spent over $300 on IPL services from Lisa, who couldn't be bothered to even return my call. I started reading her reviews on Groupon (Living Social) and found customer-after-customer who had complained about this charlatan. One party even spoke of a class-action lawsuit against her. The word, "FRAUD" cropped up over and again in her reviews. She is reported to rush her clients through and not do a very good job. One wrote that her entire treatment lasted around 7 minutes! It is clear to me that this woman offers super-low prices on her IPL services, books as many people as she can cram in, gives them shoddy services, and doesn't even bother to return her calls. I called for days, over and over and over, and left messages, not only on her voicemail but also on the main salon's voicemail. Needless to say, I got a refund for both Groupons that I bought and will NEVER attempt to do business with her again. This kind of customer "service" is almost unheard of in the Portland area. I needed to book this service prior to an upcoming trip. BOO Lisa! Someone else got my business. UPDATE: as soon as I wrote this review, she called. Rolls eyes. read more

The state of Oregon has confirmed Lisa Meredith is NOT LICENSED to do laser IPL. She burned my face, was very rude and dismissive of me from start to finish and even AFTER she burned me. The owner of the salon never got back to me even after admitting my concerns were valid. It appears Lisa is still offering IPL sessions in which she is not licensed for (confirmed yesterday by the state case worker). Lisa was dismissive of my concerns and past history of treatment in the actual session, directly after she did the first 'test' zap. I persisted to raise concerns and had to ask several times about the name of machine and what settings I was on before she would answer, but repeatedly told me she was a professional and the machine was 'on the lowest setting for my skin type'. Even after I remarked I had this procedure done at least 10x and know what it should feel like and that this was way more intense, she insisted she was right and proceeded. I grinned and beared it, when I should have walked out! She also commented that my other providers must not have been effective and that she was a professional - trying to discredit my other successful and less painful experiences. 20-30 minutes after the procedure I called Lisa and left a voicemail that indeed purple marks were appearing on my face. I did not receive a call back after 4-5 hours, so I then texted her the photos of my face with clear purple marks that exactly matched the laser head. Her response was just as dismissive as earlier for any & every concern I had brought up with her - and she texted back "That is exactly how your face should look!...your IPLs in the past were clearly not effective ones...I know how to do my job and am very good at it" !!!!!! Again discrediting ALL my past treatments and providers. I indeed had burns confirmed by my doctor and that matched all results of "Well defined rectangular marks that match up with the IPL device used." & "The appearance of red or purple discoloration on the skin that does not change when pressure is applied." & 'Crusting or blistering of the skin." After 6 months there are still traces of the rectangle marks and slight white scarring on my face in those areas, confirmed by my doctor. The salon owner had a call with me and said she would be following up but never heard from her again. I reported this to Groupon and they also did nothing and allow her to advertise IPL through their site. The state has warned Lisa about not being licensed but apparently she is still offering IPL when she is NOT LICENSED. BEWARE. read more

Here's another IPL customer burned by Lisa Meredith who apparently is not licensed to do laser treatments yet is still somehow protected by the Salon. Almost all reviews I've seen describe Lisa as either "No nonsense" or "pushy and dismissive" and I am of the later camp. I went in for spot treatments for the sunspots on my arms and hands. Instead I was completely ignored and she treated My entire arms because "she is a professional" the second time I went in (benefit of the doubt folks, and also I paid upfront for a package) I actually pointed to the spots which were the entire reason I bought the package and said can I don't think you got these last time can you please treat these? She shut me down by saying "I know what I'm doing" and then proceeded to not treat those areas at all again. I don't know what machine she uses but the fact that she's vague and evasive when asked is frankly a red flag as is her demeanor towards any suggestions or requests. I am far from the first person she has burned and sadly will probably not be the last either. I have wanted to bring this up to Lisa but will based on dozens of reviews she's not open to the feedback and the Salon does nothing either. Photos are post treatment 3 days, 1 month and 3 months. A medical office saw my arms and confirmed this is NOT supposed to happen. They claim mine can "most likely" be fixed but only with several expensive treatments. read more

I bought a Groupon for Lisa Meredith's two IPL photo facials. I attempted to leave a review on Groupon where I bought it, but wasn't able to. I will say that the reviews were very misleading as they show only the good reviews and you have to search for the bad ones. To start I will say that Lisa seems to run her appointments on the half hour. I don't know how any esthetician could do this and do it well. It's a tough business and she must be trying to make the money. ***I'm actually an esthetician myself p.s*** The good reviews said she was nice, which I don't really know where they got that. She was in too much of a hurry to even bother with the basic pleasantries like a "hello." When I introduced myself she kind of snorted and said "yeah, I know." She asked about my skin care routine, so I told her then when I mentioned that I occasionally do chemical peels she looked at me like I was stupid and said "why would you ever do that?" Remember, I'm a skin care professional myself. Her movements during the microdermabrasion were erratic and she popped some capillaries near my eyes. And then she only does one pass with the laser, which I find strange. Probably because she doesn't have time to numb her clients and they can only tolerate one pass. It was a waste of money and I didn't see results. I thought about going back for my second IPL but skipping the microdermabrasion because I have my own microdermabrasion machine, but I don't think I will even be bothering. She was rushed and gruff and even when she made small talk and asked questions like if I had a boyfriend, I knew she didn't actually care about the answer. Kinda like "yeah yeah whatever" so I gave short answers. I'm aware of time constraints in a service and admittedly I was five minutes late, but that was because I had driven a great distance. But I know good customer service and this was not it. I won't be back for my second service. It was a waste of money and I saw no results. read more

I've had my hair cut here by three people, and I'll recommend only two of them, so do keep that in mind when booking: Marissa Morris first of all is amazing! I've had her do a trim, add layers, and balayage, and was super impressed. The second, Karissa Hanno, is wonderful. She's cut my hair more than a couple times, is great at face framing, and I've also had her do highlights and lowlights. Five stars for both ladies! read more

I went here a couple of months ago with my pictures of how I wanted my heart all ready. I had the pleasure of seeing Beverly McGhee, per a friend'a (very strong) recommendation. Oh my gosh I was so impressed!! I have never been to any one who was able to make my hair EXACLY what I asked for and showed her! my hair is super difficult to manage and cut because it is so coarse and wavy... And it stretches when it's wet. So I was super thank full she dried it so we could see any tweaks that needed to be made... I love love love my hair! Today I went back ( I only cut it a few times a year). I am so in love with my hair! I have never had such a wonderful hair cut that works EXACLY with my curls that are so unforgiving. I never got in to use it but I really appreciated it. It means a lot to me that someone takes a customer's bad experience seriously and I could tell that the one employee I encountered did not represent the heart and soul of this establishment. Clair did my hair I had ombré blue hair and initially wanted ombré silver white hair but Clair explained it wasn't possible, so then I accepted to go a little warmer. I ended up with orange hair fading into purple because she couldn't get the bottom color out. I reached out because just two days after all the purple came out I've been doing blue for years so I know the color is expected to somewhat come out but my hair just looks orange now I'm so disappointed with the price and the work I received in exchange, I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Lisa didn't burn me, as it seems other people have experienced, but she is certainly condescending, abrupt, and dismissive. My IPL took less than 10 minutes, and for the majority of the time she ranted about how fake she thinks COVID 19 is. I bought a groupon with Lisa Meredith for 6 laser sessions. I have had laser done on my face before and I was thrilled with the results, but in 3 years there had been some regrowth and I wanted to do the bikini area. So, I have realistic expectations. Lisa was very nice and pleasant and the spa is gorgeous, but that laser machine she has does not work. After 6 sessions, I would estimate there was a maximum of 20% hair reduction. I brought up my concerns at the last 2 sessions with Lisa and she just kind of shrugged. No offer of repeating sessions or any change. PLEASE DO NOT waste your time and money. read more

Lisa Meredith does the best IPL in Portland. I've been getting IPL for the last ten years off and on for acne, scarring, and anti-aging, and seen a variety of estheticians, but I have never had as positive of an experience as when I saw Lisa at Elements of Style. She is efficient, focused, and actually gets the work done. I view IPL like going to the gym, where a facial is more like going to a yin yoga class. Both have value, but if an IPL is going to be worthwhile and impactful, it needs to be intense, and I see no reason to go light on the laser unless it's your first time. As an adult struggling with acne, it's frustrating and embarrassing, and I spend all kinds of money trying to clear things up for good with expensive products and dietary changes, but nothing works as well as quality IPL. My results a week in have been incredible because Lisa is not afraid of doing the work, and doesn't beat around the bush. Lisa gets aligned with your goals, and is no nonsense about getting you what you're seeking. I am blown away! Rebooking. read more

Please save your time and money and go to a reputable hair removal business. After 6 months and absolutely no results I gave up. I had laser hair removal done else where and had great results. This was so dissapointing and a huge waste of money. It's unfortunate that she continues to sell laser treatments when she has a poor quality laser that does not work. read more

I arrived to work with Jen Lyons for a shellac manicure/ spa pedicure. She was 45 minutes late in starting my service, which put me in a bad mood. She did not even come out to greet me or tell me she was running behind. After waiting for 40 minutes some nice lady with short blond hair came over and offered me water or a glass of wine, which I gladly accepted. When my service finally started, we began with a shellac manicure. I was disappointed to find out that there were very few choices of colors to pick from. Not only that but a lot of the choices were inexpensive brands of nail polish. She started by filing off my previous shellac color. I am used to soaking my nails in acetone to remove the shellac, so I thought this was kind of weird but just went with it. I chose a bright pink color and had her apply nail art polka dots. My nails when finished were stunning and beautiful. We went to do the pedicure next. I was again disappointed by the selection of nail polishes. This time there are more choices for colors but several very poor quality brands of nail polish... Including wet n' wild. After the pedicure was over I sat and let my nails dry. They were looking pretty good. I had decided at that moment that I was not going to write a review. But two days later my shellac manicure chipped and it's the first time a shellac manicure has ever chipped in such a short amount of time. I will never return to this salon again. I think you will be very disappointed if you go there for nail services as I was. read more

Think twice. I had a waxing appointment with Angela scheduled for after work today at 4 p.m. prior to leaving for vacation. I got an email yesterday asking if I could move it to 10 a.m. due to a family medical issue. I spent time rearranging my schedule to accommodate because thing happen. I run a nonprofit agency that deals with people in crisis so it was no small feat to change my schedule the day before leaving for two weeks but I was happy to do it. I arrived 5 min early and was told by the woman who checked me in that "Angela does amazing work but she is always late and isn't here yet." I waited until 10:10 and then asked (a different person) at the desk if they knew when she would be in. She looked and then called her and put me on phone with her. She was about another 10 min out from arriving. I asked if there was anyone else that could do the service. I was told "no." I then asked to speak to the manager and was told "we are all independent contractors so it won't matter"-- okay- so apparently nobody owns the business or cares about it. A 'manager' then came up to speak to me, she didn't know what was going on and when I explained it to her she told me Angela's family member was very ill and said it in such a way that I was to be shamed for being upset. Wow. Listen, I get it. I fully understand and would have totally understood if she had just cancelled yesterday so I could have made other arrangements. Even if she called this morning or something. Instead I was just sitting there with no information after completely rearranging my day. I am certain that Angela's family crisis is by far more significant than my now leaving for an island vacation without waxing. However, the lack of communication and professionalism was appalling. My heart goes out to her but this salon just lost a valuable customer who lives and works in this community. read more

I went to Lisa Meredith for photo facial IPL, I had to cancel and reschedule 3 times and she was really accommodating and very nice about it. I finally got to see her yesterday and she gives a microdermabrasion for free before the laser treatment. she was fast and very efficient and overall friendly and helpful. My skin already feels different within 24 hours. she is reasonably priced and the salon is super nice. she is busy and you need to book in advance, but that would be the only possible negative thing about her. Camille is absolutely wonderful! She has been doing my hair for years and I can proudly say I will not go to anyone else. I have very thick, curly hair with a mind of it's own and she knows how to get it just right every time. I bought a Groupon for 3 microdermabrasion treatments with Nicole C. I was running a few minutes late so I called twice and no one answered, so I left a message the second time. I arrived to the salon 5 minutes late and was greeted by another stylist who told me to wait. She didn't tell anyone that I was there and just sat next to me. After a few minutes I asked her to let Nicole know I was there. She went and knocked on Nicole's facial room and she wasn't in there, then went and looked outside, no one knew where she was. They couldn't find her. Finally, she called her cell phone. When she got off the phone the random stylist who had been helping me told me that now there wasn't enough time to do my facial before Nicole's next client arrived. This whole process of finding her took 15 minutes. During my wait their phone rang multiple time and no one answered it even though there were at least 10 employees there. Nicole didn't even come out from wherever she was to talk to me or reschedule. I canceled my Groupon and got my money back. Very disappointed and extremely unprofessional. read more

First time customer. Went to get my eyebrows done by tess and I showed her multiple pictures of what I wanted. Looked in the mirror when she was done and my jaw dropped. I almost cried from how terrible she did my eyebrows. They looked NOTHING like I showed her. they are just hideous. its pretty obvious by the way she did them that she had no idea what she was doing. I don't know about the other girls there that do eyebrows but there was a reason Tess had an opening. Do not let her touch your eyebrows. read more

I went to Elements of Style for a friend's wedding and really enjoyed my interaction with some of the stylist. I scheduled a cut/color with Camille, one of the stylists at the salon. When she cut my hair, she talked on her cell phone to a friend, red flag one! I couldn't believe I was paying someone to pamper me and cut, color and style my hair and she was this unprofessional! Secondly, when she was washing my hair, she noticed that her next appointment had arrived. She asked me if I even wanted my hair blow dried and styled. I couldn't beleive it! Yes, of course I want to see how you have colored my hair, I want to see how you styled it. I felt that I was a "bother" to her somehow and that she didn't want to cut/color my hair in the first place, extremely rude. Lastly, when she colored my hair, she turned it yellow. I asked for blond highlights (what I already have in my hair) with more platinum colors, than yellow. When I mentioned to her that my hair was yellow, she said well, it will fade. I thought this was rude and unprofessional as well. I would never recommend Camille at this salon to anyone! read more

This salon is an amazing treat if you go in and get your hair cut or colored, and I have a friend who gets her nails done there and they are always looking fabulous. BUT, I bought a Groupon through Lisa Meredith (The laser hair removal lady) in hopes of getting rid of my unwanted hair. It was an incredible deal, 6 sessions for $279! I even gave her and extra $100 to ensure all the hair would be gone in case I needed an extra session or two. Unfortunately the results were nonexistent. Either she doesn't know how to use the machine, or the machine doesn't work in general. She literally burnt hair off of my skin, and it all grew back by session 5. I told her my concerns and asked for my money back and she completely refused and shrugged it off. After some extremely unprofessional text messages that she sent to my personal cell phone (that were actually threatening), she sent me a check in the mail for $40... I had given her a total of $379 plus tips every session. I then sent the check back telling her the laser removal was 100% ineffective and that I wanted a COMPLETE refund but she never responded or sent anything back. I told the owner of the shop and she didn't do anything about it (because she isn't in a position to tell the employees how to treat their clients I guess.) Long story short- DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! Lisa Meredith is a complete fraud and her machine is ineffective. read more
