I've been going to Urban Colorz for 5 years or so. Casie is my gal and I've had almost ALL of the things over the years. Short hair, long hair, dark hair, bleached hair, foiled hair, balayaged hair, a few different types of extensions (Hairdreams and the ones with the little beads) and I've ALWAYS left the salon feeling beautiful. I've been to many salons in my life and had many stylists do my hair and without a doubt, Casie is my favorite. She does what I ask her to do. She doesn't tell me it's not possible, she doesn't say she doesn't want to do_____ because she doesn't think I will like it, she bleached my hair when I want it bleached, she dyed my hair brown when I wanted to be a brunette. Catherine is my go-to gal! She's such a sweetheart and very welcoming, always doing a great job. She's done my hair for the last two years and I'm impressed with her work every time. I come in frizzy and dry due to my hair being naturally curly but I always leave with it silky smooth that lasts for weeks. It's interesting to see all the art work they put on the walls for sale and the ambiance is super chic! It's busy most of the time, but they do a great job of keeping things professional and not rushing their work. I will always recommend Catherine, even if I live too far away to come back to her. read more

I spent $400+ to get bad haircuts and color it wasn't even close to what I asked for. This was my second and last time with Christina, the first time was ok. I wasn't pleased with haircuts but the color was good. This time haircut are very bad. It's not even straight-cut, and there is no style at all. For hair color, I asked for red and I even showed the photo. I got bright orange, I'm glad Sally's beautiful store was still open, and went straight after wasting +400 to get hair dye. I wish hairstylists could tell the clients if they can or can not do the job or how much they can do. Thank you Christina for the bad haircuts that I'm gonna have next 6 months until It grows some so I'll be able to fix it, thank you for wasting my time and money. read more

I booked an appointment at Urban Colorz on a whim after deciding 10 years plus of not having a cut was just pure negligence. I'm so lucky to have been booked with Vanessa F for my cut and balayage. She is a miracle worker and a delightful gal! I only had a slight idea of what I wanted and she was able to take that and run with suggestions and attentively adjust them to my liking throughout the process. She also generously gave me a styling tutorial and care tips! The finished result was more than I could have hoped for as I didn't think it was possible for my hair to get such a transformation in the condition it was in. This review is for Ciara Newbury. I am a platinum blonde and came in for a root touch up. My appointment was at 8:30 AM. I arrived on time and explained to her that usually 20 volume lifts me light enough to tone to be a platinum blonde all over. I had an inch of grow out and she proceeded to tell me that she will use 30 v with how dark my natural hair is AND put me under the heater. I explained to her that my stylist usually uses 20 and get me to a level 10 and does not use heat as the scalp generates heat already. We also talked about going under the heat and I was adamant that heat will NOT be used on a on the scalp bleach because it dries out the bleach and is damaging to the hair. She did not respect my decision due to timing issues because she had a client at 10 AM. When she came to check on my hair, I told her that the bleach hasn't lifted to a pale yellow and that she needs to leave it on longer and she refused to listen to me and told me that she has to rinse my hair out now because she booked a client at 10 AM. She does not care about preserving hair integrity. She rushed my hair, it did not LIFT light enough to put the toner on. She did not listen to me when I told her what works for my hair AND she said she didn't have time to blow dry my hair and told me to leave the salon with wet hair. To any hair stylist reading this please Listen to your clients! To any client don't be afraid to stand up for yourself, at the end of the day it's your hair and you're the one that has to live with the breakage. read more

I had a fantastic experience here! As a curly girl, I was so scared to try a new hair stylist but I had heard great things about this salon so I decided to go for it. Kerri has been doing hair for 26 years so I felt like she would be most experienced with my fine 2B curls. I have to say that I am so pleased with how it turned out! I was scared at first because I had her straighten my hair after cutting and it was shorter than I expected. I finally let it go natural after 2 days and I'm in love! It wasn't what I wanted and took over 6 hours since they had to recolor a few times. I ended up having to tone my hair by myself because my hair was so uneven and just a mess. I had my hair done with Ciara D and came out disappointed. I've come to this location many times with other stylists and have never had a cut where my hair is not styled at the end. This time I walked out with half straightened hair and looked like I had just rolled out of bed. I was actually shocked that she was okay with letting me walk out that way. My appointment was at 9am and I walked out of the salon at 9:45. I felt like for $65 she should have spent the last 15 minutes styling it. Black hair beware: I recently had a balayage and cut at Urban Colorz with Keli and I'm sorry to say I don't feel good about my experience or the $300 it cost me. My roots (still) look very grown out, I feel the placement of the balayage is inconsistent and the translation from dark to light is not gradual but drastic and harsh. I have black hair, get basically the same thing done every single visit, and have been seeing Casie for about the last 10 yrs, who is amazing with my hair. I very hesitantly saw Keli because I needed my hair done before vacation and Casie was booked. I was very specific about that I didn't want any lightening to start along my hairline around my face so as to avoid the "stripe" effect that happens very easily with my black hair, but that a few rows of hair back or not directly at the root around my face was fine. I showed photo example after photo example, of my hair from previous appointments at Urban Colorz, somewhere there was a disconnect. She still really missed the mark and did not meet my expectations. I was also very clear that I wear my hair up/back most of the time and it looking good up was expected. When I put my hair up, it looked like black hair with a light colored ponytail, not what I expected or wanted. I reached out and she graciously offered to have me back at no cost, unfortunately it's almost worse now as there is a more defined and drastic color difference between light and dark. She went over the already lightened pieces at the second appointment so they're now even lighter, even though when I asked while in the chair she said they wouldn't be and that she would tone them down; they are also a brassy undesirable color. Again not what I communicated I wanted. Having black hair it's been my experience that finding someone who can work with it and meet my expectations is a challenge hence my great hesitancy in seeing someone other than my usual stylist. So I offer this review as a cautionary tale to those seeking opinions. read more

First visit here was on 4-19-19 and was disappointed overall. It seemed like the stylist was randomly placing the balayage rather than using any learned technique. She was a little vulgar, insensitive and unprofessional which I do not prefer. I joked for a few weeks that my layers were stair steps. (Left the salon with my hair curled and the stair steps were only visible when my hair was straight) Felt like a couple hundred dollars went to nothing. Scheduled another appointment about three weeks after. Went with a very blunt cut, full highlight with more of a balayage technique and was much happier with the results. Highly recommend Alijah. So another couple hundred dollars later I am happy with my hair- will add updated picture. read more

I love Brittany! She was outgoing and easy to have a conversation with. You can tell she really cares about her clients. I booked a balayage with her and it seemed like there was some scheduling issue that caused me to wait, but it got worked out in the end. I've been to other salons and they've been too dark or too light, but Brittany was able to perfectly match the photos that I showed her. She's extremely kind and also gentle when washing hair, unlike some other aggressive salons I've been to. Her relative pricing is super affordable too. 10/10 recommend to anyone! read more

I've given them multiple chances. First time the stylist sent me home with my hair wet and unfinished because the receptionist booked her double appointments (?) but I thought they're independent stylists? So that explanation did not sit with me. Second time a different stylist cuts my bangs of what supposed to be "curtain" style was very above my eyebrows. Third time and most recent was Viv? Believe her name is. Booked her first time and she had left home while I'm rushing to get there. I arrived and she blamed it again on a system glitch. She was very apologetic and sounded sincere that she would make it up and promised to call me to reschedule. My Stylist is Cierra! She's a total sweetheart and really honest about her process. I came to her after my hair was red and had black box dye over it ‍ I had a consultation with her so see if she'd even be willing to do my hair lol, and luckily she was!! I told her what I wanted (eventually be blonde) & she was very honest with me about just seeing how light we could get it, especially the first time around, with no guarantees, I understood that my hair goal would be long term. I've been so happy with each session and transition of my hair. Ciara is so talented with her work and I'm so thankful I've meet her, and can I look forward to coming back each time!! I went in on Wednesday and I asked for an all over color which was purple. I ended up getting silver with purple roots! Which in one shower turned into a yellowish green and blue roots. To mention the person doing my hair didn't mention anything once I left the store. Instead they want me to pay 30 extra for dying it again after being left like this. I asked for a refund since it costed me 310 for this nasty hair that isn't what I asked for and she said she wouldn't give me the refund. I'd suggest going to a different place unless you want your hair to look like mine. Horrible read more

Erin Hash is amazing!! She turned my lack luster home hair into amazing luscious locks. I have been getting compliments every day since I got my hair done. My boss was in shock when she saw me, couldn't believe my hair could look so good after one visit. I agree, I wanted a miracle and she worked her crazy hair magic to make it happen. So glad Hair Candy salon failed and Urban Colorz stepped it up when I had limited time in town this month. All the ladies at Urban Colorz are sooo nice, offered up snacks and drinks to keep all the clients happy. Today I saw Heather Donaldson. It's been awhile since I've gotten my hair done due to Covid-19 and I know a lot of places are so slammed right now. I found Heather on the Urban Colorz website and I picked her because she looked so friendly and I saw her portfolio and was like danggg she does an AMAZING job with blondes! I am so glad I found her because if only I had a before picture of my hair, it was so grown out and def not cute, but Heather seriously flipped a 360 on my hair and made it so beautiful. I've heard so much about Urban Colorz through the beauty community grapevine that when I desperately needed a trim I finally gave them a shot. Heather D had just one opening the next day, I'm guessing someone had JUST canceled because every shop is crazy busy right now because of COVID-19. Heather was an absolute dream, and exactly who I need as a stylist. It all started with a stinking fabulous insta pic of a Pulp Riot head of curly hair found in November. I went in for a consult (Tip: do this for yourself and the potential hair magician. Seriously.) Told the super cool stylist at the desk what I was looking for. After a quick chat, she recommended Casie. You see, I thought how fun would it be to take level 3/4 curly (3b) fine hair to an 8 plus and drop some bomb ass vivid colors?... *just so you know... this takes time *sigh*, following hair care directions given by a professional and a good dose of trust. She scoped out what I had going on already. I came in with a faded 6.66 red color melt. Another tip: Be freaking honest and try to recall any color or dyi you've done. Don't forget to bring pictures of inspiration. They are magicians (different than fortune tellers) however, you're likely new so they don't know how your locks will behave. Any whoo, back to me and my experience. Casie walked up, we chatted and while I showed her inspo, she proudly showed pictures of her work. Remember that pic I mentioned earlier? That was her work. She got my ok before assessing my hair. As a curly this is rare and respectful so double bonus points for this courtesy. I've lost count how many strangers can't resist pulling a curl. She advised how far we could go and she delivered me to mauve! I've gone back in for toning sessions and baby trims since. We're all set to do another big transition very soon and I'm sooooo excited. There be chrome and oil slick rainbow curls to be had. All the stylists that have been there while I'm in the chair are collaborative and full of positive vibes. I made my eight week trip to Dinah this morning, I love my hair as usual. Whenever I leave, I always think, this trip was my favorite. I still would never let anyone else touch my hair after 15 years! But there was something else I wanted to reflect on during today's stop at the salon. Currently, we are having the crisis in our country relating to COVID19. Several people are making the choice to limit public contact which is understandable; however, I can assure you, if you are like me and refuse to miss your beauty treatments, UCS is the place to go. It typically isn't ideal to walk into a salon and have it smell almost completely sterile but given these circumstances, it was reassuring. While I was waiting for my appointment, I noticed almost every employee cleaning their station or pitching in to help wipe down the salon. I had an absolute germ phobia prior to this virus, this only made it worse. So, it was lovely to witness the precautionary measures Dinah and her entire team were making to keep their customers safe. In between the previous client and myself, Dinah (the owner) sanitized her complete station. She also wiped down the the shampoo bowl, the drier, ect as she wrapped up each stop with me. I know that we can only do so much to prevent such viruses and illnesses, but this team is definitely doing their part. It is nice to go to a business that makes you feel like they care about you as an individual. This salon is so beautiful! When you walk in you're greeted by the sweetest receptionist with a big smile on her face. Having been in customer service for many years myself, that scores a lot of points with me! I went in to get some vivid color done. I wanted to look like a pile of fall leaves I saw Casie, she was so professional and made me feel comfortable immediately. I was there for several hours as it's a very time consuming service. She made sure I had delicious beverages and good conversation the whole time. When we were done I was blown away at how amazing my hair was! It was better than I imagined! She also fulfilled my dream of curling my hair with a teeny tiny curling iron All in all it was such an amazing experience. Did I mention they have pillows in their sinks?! Yes!
