Last night, in advance of a concert at Benaroya Hall, we stopped in for a happy hour beer and a couple of sharing plates, both very nicely priced and offering portions generous enough to be called entrees when shared between two people. It wasn't particularly busy, which was nice, and our server was a very friendly and outgoing fellow named Ivan who kept our beer glasses full and our faces smiling. With a rather dwindling array of affordable dining choices within walking distance of the symphony hall, it's nice to know that this old reliable pub is still a solid option in often challenging economic times. When I used to work in Seattle, I would always wander by here but never gave them a try until last Sunday on an early evening. Was very disappointed in the result. First off, for a weekend date, you need a reservation otherwise you are placed in the downstairs area or end up waiting for a while. We got our seat downstairs. Service was still on time and they let us be rather than checking in on us every 10 minutes. It was also a negative because when i requested for more bleu cheese (side note: there was barely any bleu cheese in my Bacon & Bleu Cheese Burger) they didnt arrive until about 30 minutes later and i was already almost done with my burger. For food, we ordered a Bacon & Bleu Cheese Burger (one strip of bacon with barely any bleu cheese. Literally was one piece of ingredient listed vs generous. Patty was well done as requested though) with a side of fries (loved how crispy the fries were), Manta's Butter Chicken (noted as an okay attempt at Indian food for an American restaurant), and Bangers & Mash (noted as she enjoyed this meal as it was a good satisfying meal to end the night). Overall, one of us will come back but the rest of us have noted not to come back here again. Very skimpy on the food and seems like you will get forgotten if you dont have a reservation. read more

There is a paid parking garage nearby for those who drive here. Stopped by for a snack before an event recently. This place has not changed in the years since I was last here. The décor is down home with a touch of British flair. Very warm on a cold night. Even as busy as they where we go a table right away. Our service was very nice and happy to answer questions. Made some good recommendations on drinks. I went with Steak & Mushroom Pie and it was an excellent choice. Really hearty gravy with plenty of filling. The service was really good and friendly too. No complaints. Inside was like an Olde English pub and a rather large space but wasn't busy at all when we dinned. There was also a patio for an outdoor dining option. Price estimate is about $30 a person. First night in Seattle, landed late and after a full day of travel, a decent hot meal in walking distance was top priority!! I opened up Yelp and this British pub popped up and after taking a quick glance at the pics and reviews we decided it was worth checking out. Crispy, seasoned well and not the least bit greasy (I wondered if maybe they were air fryer ‍). For my entree I went with wings (if you have been reading my reviews I bet by now you have discovered that I can eat wings and pizza all day every day ), and they hit the spot. Meaty, moist and bursting with flavor with perfect amount of sauce. My daughter who is vegetarian ordered the the falafel wrap and she devoured it. It was well prepared and had the perfect blend of textures and flavor. Her bestie picked the French dip, the meat was tender, the bread was toasty and they put the perfect amount of cheese and onions. The Au jus was the icing on the cake. The restaurant itself is very large and spacious, there are also separate spaces that are perfect for hosting private parties featuring pool tables, dart boards and other activities. We stayed at the Motif several years ago and went to this Bar and Restaurant. It was great ! The food and service was excellent and we referred all of our friends here. However, during our stay the week of 1.9.26 it had clearly changed management. The food was horrible, the beer flat and the bartender was clearly incompetent and did not know how to treat customers--judging from years in the service industry. This was clearly a reflection of poor management to allow this level of service to persist. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Go to the Yard House if you want good food and first class service in Seattle--definitely better managed. read more

It was delicious! The pie top was light and airy. It came with a side of the noble side salad. The salad was loaded with greens/almonds/ cranberries/goat cheese and a tasty vinaigrette. My next visit I'd order it as my meal salad. My cocktail was a Bloody Mary. I did not drink the whole thing, the veggies tasted a bit odd, the drink was too spicy for me. For a started we ordered the maple Brussels sprouts...yummy. Cooked to perfection and were drizzled with maple syrup and walnuts. Highly recommend them! Our service was spot on. We had a reservation, greeted upon entry, our waitress gave us a few moments and took both our drink and food menu. Service was quick but I think because when we got there we were maybe the third group, by the time we left the place was buzzing. When in Seattle , this place is worth a stop for a meal. read more

Even quicker than we expected. We ordered the fish n chips and the french dip. The fish was very big and tasty. The French Dip was also large and so savory. The fries on both were great as well. While the ambience and menu selections are appropriately pub-like, this place missed the mark on our visit with both the food and service. The three stars was a 'benefit of the doubt' score based on the majority of good reviews. We ordered the Shepard's Pie and the French dip. The Shepard's Pie was good, not great. The French dip had an excellent roll and au jus, but the beef was chewy and tough. The side salad was brought on the same plate so after sitting next to the cup of hot au jus and the hot sandwich, the salad was wilted and warm. That would have been fine for a spinach salad, but not a mixed green. It is easily remedied by putting it in a small bowl or just bring it on a separate plate. The food took 30 minutes to arrive, despite the pub being about half capacity. We learned from the server that the main line chef just didn't show up so that made them short-handed in the kitchen. After not being thrilled with the gum dip, I ordered fish and chips. After another 15 minute wait with no end in site, we paid the bill and left. After seeing the webpage and pics of the restaurant, it seemed to be one that prides itself on its British roots. We came here on 7-1, I was actually hoping that it would give me a Britain-in-Seattle experience. Weeeelll, not so much. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I dared to ask the server where the loo is (the Men's room), she looked at me like I came from Western State Hospital (that's the funny farm for those not familiar with Washington). So that first experience bombed, but it didn't bomb their rating. Any rate, we ordered some bangers and their brussel sprouts for starters. Both were really good. The rolls were light and crispy, the brussel sprouts had a nice sweetness without being over powering. For entrées we ordered a couple deluxe burgers, the kebob platter, and fish and chips. The burgers were cooked well and were good. The kebobs also tasted good, the fish was also cooked well. One thing that was odd, and maybe it was the way the breading was done, but the fish kept falling out/off of the breading so you couldn't just do a fork-full of fish/breading and enjoy the bites that way. Oh well. We also ordered a gin flight to try, which was an interesting bit. Now that I think of it, gin is probably very British given Tanqueray, Bombay, and Hendricks are all from GB. As with all flights, they were good and we had a favorite as well as a "not-so-much" selection. Pricing was reasonable for the portion sizes. The restaurant itself does seem to have a decor and ambiance of being in perhaps a British pub (for the record, I have never been to Britain nor enjoyed the pub experience which is a cultural phenomena probably not replicated easily in the States). There were not many people there at the time (weekday, early afternoon), so perhaps the night crowd would really bring the soul out into the air. As a note, the loos (bathrooms) could have used some cleaning (smelly). They were modeled ok, but not anything special. Our server was pleasant and did a reasonable job with us. So while I wasn't sure if the food and experience was really up to an authentic British standard, we all left feeling that we ate a good meal. I hope a real British doesn't come here and review after me, tearing up the place to shreds. Perhaps it was too early, but I did wish I could enjoy a spot of tea (I was looked at that one weirdly too when I asked). read more

Our server was a really sweet girl (unfortunatley don't remember her name) who was busting her back running around all corners of the place, making sure everybody was enjoying themselves. I got the Sunday roast, and my wife got the pie flights. She loved the choice she made, 4 small potpies and shepherds pies, which were not only delicious, but the perfect portion size! My Sunday roast had the best gravy and mashed potatoes, not to mention the roast beef, which was perfectly cooked.
