They have pool tables that have tap to pay (unsure of how much) and TVs playing sports. I was expecting women's sports, but I guess it's the wrong season. They also have outdoor balcony seating for nicer days ! The atmosphere at Rough & Tumble is unmatched. We visited for the Torrent official watch party during the Olympic women's hockey quarterfinals (USA vs. Italy), and the experience was perfect from start to finish. Even with a packed house, the staff operated like a well-oiled machine. A special shoutout goes to our server, Alexandria, who was incredible. Despite the noise, she made a point to squat down at our table so we could hear her clearly--a thoughtful touch that didn't go unnoticed. The food and beverages were also a solid yes. We ordered the BLATs (bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato), which were delicious. We had a fantastic time and are already looking forward to returning. We finally had the occasion to visit the Rough & Tumble Pub a few days ago. This pub has been on our list for awhile now as they are dedicated to all things "women's sports". We visited on a Sunday night so there wasn't much of a crowd to speak of but I can imagine how hopping the place gets when amped up with crowds cheering on their favorite sports teams such as the WNBA Storm, the NWSL Seattle Reign, and others. I wouldn't call this pub vegan friendly by any stretch but they do have a few vegan options, which is always greatly appreciated. Their menu is a bit .. chaotic, in my opinion. What do I mean by "chaotic", good question .. I'll provide some examples: - They have a few different menus, depending on time of day (Brunch, Happy Hour, Dinner, etc). This is in no way unusual for a restaurant and it's easy enough to read when on a computer but if you're trying to scroll through those menus on your smart phone .. you might be left with vertigo (yes, I'm being dramatic for effect, but still ... ) - at least one item (the Spiced Edamame) is marked with a "v" but .. what does "v" mean? Vegan? Vegetarian? I couldn't find any type of "key" on their menu unless I overlooked something (always possible). - I'm not gluten free at all but in tiny letters at the bottom of their menu it says "items marked gf may have shared traced of gluten from a shared fryer, we are happy to sub fully gf/celiac safe tortilla chips on any item". I feel like if something is marked "gf" on the menu, a customer should feel confident that it's 100% gf and not have to guess .. especially when it comes to health concerns. If not, it should be made more clear than simply providing very tiny, hard to read text at the bottom of the menu. In all fairness, on a lot of the specific items, they do call this out but it just seems weird to label something gf that isn't 100% gf. - "Baller basket of fries or tots" - these aren't labelled as "v" at all, seems inconsistent to the labelling of the spiced edamame. - Jackie's Baked Buffalo Dip - creamy jackfruit, charred scallions, "mozzarella", Frank's r+t tortilla chips (vegan)". The "r+t" = "rough and tumble", call me dense but it took me a bit to figure that out lol. So, is this vegan? Does putting "mozzarella" in quotes automatically mean it's vegan or is the implication accidental? If it's vegan cheese, why not just say that? lol. I looked at their brunch menu and noticed some of their "scramble" options specifically list "vegan mozzarella cheese" as an option, so that told me they definitely stock vegan cheese. When I asked the server, she did confirm the "mozzarella" listed in this dish was indeed vegan. I didn't think to ask about the "creamy jackfruit" though so now I'm hoping that was vegan as well as that was an item we ordered and ... it was really good! - they have a Pork Belly or Tofu Sliders option on Hawaiian bread. We were thinking that maybe tofu sliders would be vegan. I asked about the Hawaiian bread, which they confirmed wasn't vegan. In all fairness to them, this item isn't listed as vegan but ... it's an item that would very likely draw interest to a vegan, so why not provide a vegan version of the same. They did check on availability of an alternative vegan bread, but were out of baguettes (which was vegan). So, if you go there another time and order this, if they have baguettes available at that time maybe this would be accidentally vegan. - going back to the Brunch section, when looking at the scrambles, and then say "or mixed greens (gf/vegan)". For many of the scrambles listed, practically none of the ingredients are vegan (although again, they do have vegan scramble options) but for a scramble that wouldn't remotely be vegan, why specify that the mixed greens in the scramble are vegan, like .. would that ever be a question if greens are vegan? So, I'm not trying to nitpick or be difficult but I think these are strong inconsistences that could easily be ironed out. I totally understand that given the pub being a sports bar, vegan clientele are probably but the tiniest fraction of their patrons. It felt like they definitely put thought into trying to be inclusive while at the same time, it seems scattered and confusing and could keep some vegans from coming back or visiting at all. The servers were helpful and very attentive to our needs but were also definitely not familiar with our vegan questions. That's not a problem as they took every stride to find out the needed information and ensure we had a good meal. I mention this only because I feel like if they tighten up a few loose ends, this pub could really hold great appeal for vegan clientele. The food was really enjoyable. The Baked Buffalo dip was great, we couldn't get enough :). The Banh Mi was good and I LOVE that they have vegan mayo win-win-win all the way around! Now that I've been a few times I feel that it's time to update my review. I love the idea of this place - obviously it's a successful model as women's sports bars are opening nationwide and Rough and Tumble is opening a second location in Seattle. I also like how involved Rough and Tumble has been with the community, hosting special events for big games, fundraisers, etc. The food and drink are what I would call upscale pub fare with a Seattle vibe. More fish, more vegetarian and other special dietary options, etc. It's on the more expensive side, but definitely within a very reasonable range especially given the neighborhood. The staff are nice, but the service process here needs help. The first time I came, I went to to the bar to order and was told to sit down as it's a full service establishment. The next couple times, I did not make the same mistake, but instead waited for 20 minutes before anyone came by with water or anything. None of these times was it busy; maybe 5-10 other individuals seated. The most recent time I went, I sat for 30 minutes before giving up and going elsewhere (this time, in fairness, it was fairly busy). I have found the whole thing very confusing. It would also be nice if they could post online somewhere when the patio is reserved. 2 of the 4 times I've come, it's been closed for clubs/groups that seem to have standing/recurring reservations, causing a bit of awkwardness as staff have to kick people out. read more

Spousie and I have been twice this go and both times were equally as great as my memory served. Plenty of vegan/veganable food, great drinks (alcoholic and non) and the service and staff are all wonderful. We were there to watch an NWSL futbol match and had no problem getting a TV switched to the match even though there was a Seattle WNBA (or some sort of basketball, definitely a Seattle team though) game on and the futbol match didn't feature a Seattle team. Or second visit, of this trip, was for the Women's Decathlon World Championship. The R&T did a great job hosting the event. There was a trivia event just before the decathlon and a Sue Bird after party happening after the decathlon. What could have been a hectic situation was quite calm and easy, for us -the customers, I'm sure it was quite hectic for the staff. This place continues to be awesome- the food and drink, the staff, and the atmosphere/ambiance. My spouse and I look forward to returning again soon and often. read more

I was surprised to see this familiar space, formerly home to Sawyer, which I had loved. While it was bittersweet to realize Sawyer had closed, I was excited to check out Rough & Tumble, especially as an all-women's sports bar concept! The space is bright and open with lots of windows and plenty of TVs, so every seat has a good view of the games. However, it feels more like a sterile restaurant than a sports bar, and I wished for more character, memorabilia, and a cozier atmosphere. We ordered buffalo wings, chips and guacamole with salsa, and a salad spring roll. Everything was tasty, though the presentation was simple. Service was friendly and kind. About halfway through our visit, a man approached our table saying he was with a university and asked us to take a "quick" survey about sports fans and their habits. We agreed, but it turned out to be a lengthy 6-8 page survey with several in-depth questions that didn't seem related to the dining experience. It felt a bit uncomfortable, and I chose not to finish it. The biggest downside was honestly the pricing. With two appetizers, one entrée, three beers each, and a cocktail each for the two of us---our bill came to $210 before the tip.... Draft beers were $11, canned beers were even more, and the salad was nearly $30. While the food and service was good and I'd return as an occasional treat, the prices felt very high for the portion sizes and sterile sports-bar setting. read more

So glad I ended up here for brunch during the US Open recently. Came here to watch the finals and enjoy some good food. I was excited to finally try their brunch options after hearing how good it was! Although we had trouble getting the right spot in front of a tv showing the game, thanks to the owner and staff for getting us seating in the side room and turning on the screen for us. They were so sweet and went above and beyond to make us comfortable :) I really enjoyed my meal and cocktail. It was a hard choice since everything sounded so good! Another hidden gem in the Ballard area. Parking can be an issue. This sports pub specializes is showcasing women's sports. The inside is quite accommodating for large groups and doesn't feel too crowded. The window seating roof can be opened up during the warmer season of Seattle. Venue is very family friendly and open to everyone. The food and signature cocktails are definitely worth the visit even if you are not a sports enthusiast. Finally, a sports bar that gets it and caters to women sports! I came here to watch a women's volleyball semifinal game on a weeknight and found a not too crowded space (I know it can get pretty rowdy when multiple sports are in full swing). I was honestly expecting your typical bar fare, but I was surprised with plenty of vegetarian options (a rare find in a sports bar) and traditional burger and fries too. Your usual bar fair and a few different options we had a variety of appetizers off the HH and regular menu. How I heard of this place: A friend wanted to do happy hour in "the area" and recommended this place for great fried food and 13 screens, mostly depicting women's sports. The waitress was so organized and kept tabs separate tabs going for every person at our table with no errors. The Laniberry Smash was excellent with fresh muddled, strawberries, and basil. The watermelon Snap was OK but not nearly as good my friends enjoyed their drinks, fries, and tots. Unique spot with primarily women's sports on all the TVs. We sat out on the balcony, and there were no TVs out there with our crowd of 50 to 100. The noise level was quite loud even outdoors. I had the burger which would most likely be really good if served hot same with the fries. My kid ended up with the quesadilla. First, it took forever to get the attention of a server. There seemed to be two events going on that day. Second food took forever to come out, and when we got it, it tasted okay but not impressed. We looked at the menu and was expecting more of a bar food menu, everything seemed to dress up and the prices were a little too high, can I have some of the basics bar food? Third I was not to impressed with drinks, we got a mix drink, and it was horrible, defiantly stick to a draft beer or in a bottle, horrible bar tender. And most importantly they were playing nothing but college male sports!!! or regular male sports. I mean this is a women's sports bar, right? Play women's sports!! Arrived just after 6 on a Friday night and had no problem grabbing a table. The atmosphere is sporty and comfortable, and my husband and I enjoyed watching all the games on TV while reading the trivia cards from our table. We've ordered out from here before and enjoyed the smokey gouda mac and cheese and broccolini. The food dining in was just as delicious. The fish tacos were by far the best, encompassing everything you'd want in a fish taco - perfectly seasoned fish, mango pico, slaw, chipotle aioli, verde salsa with homemade tortillas. My husband's chicken sandwich paled in comparison and the fries weren't as crisp as we expected. We were redeemed by dessert with the delightfully oaty and chocolately skillet cookie. The big downside was the staffing. For ~25 tables there were only two waitresses the entire time we were here. It made it difficult to get drink refills and pay the bill. If you're looking for a speedy place to grab food, you might look elsewhere. read more
