Casual setting with stellar menu, we enjoyed the Prime Rib with an extra side of Lobster Tail because I wanted surf and turf but opted for Prime Rib over the NY Steak. Pretty awesome hole in the wall diner style restaurant. The calzones are HUGE and so good. The chicken cordon blue is also very good. Only reason I didn't give 5 are below. Fried pickles are tiny portion, very small plate of them. The jalapeño poppers taste like the store bought freezer section ones and are also very small - I'd recommend making them from scratch and freezing them to be fried on order vs store bought. The burger was not the best but also not bad, hand pressed beef patties I think are an easy way to make burgers way better and stand out and would be way better imo. Thicker/juicier. Overall everything has been good and we will definitely continue to eat here!! read more

Quaint local bar in the North Pole. Service was good. For food, we only tried the Reindeer Sausage Pizza and Reindeer Hoagie which were both tasty. We can around 4pm as they were opening so we were the only people there but expect this gets busier later in the day. read more

Pictures and reviews were so-so but I have to say we enjoyed our dinner here. Cool little roadside restaurant. Brand new server but she hustled and did a great job! Pizza was good-loved the crust which is important!! MIL had the halibut for around $24; it was a generous portion with big salad and baked potato!!! We will return. read more

Holy. Shnikes. Lived here almost 30 years and never tried til today. I always thought it was a bar that served food nothing more... Being a server / bartender for years and years I had no interest in this So so wrong. My husband suggested it, we went with the whole family, all 7 of us. And had one of the best dinners we have had in years! Great service super fast to get drinks and literally anything you ask for. Food came out piping hot so quickly Foods ordered -new York steak- huge juicy steak cooked perfectly seasoned to perfection sitting in a pile of its own juices. - calzone- bigger than my son's head and yet somehow came cooked perfectly with no doughy spots. Absolutely amazing calzone have never had one like that. - spicy chicken sandwich- great quality chicken, very tender and has an awesome sauce on it - the special of the night (can't remember exactly but was a fancy prime rib dip) *my husband is super particular and hard to please* meat to bread ratio was slim, so he ate it open faced but it was so flavorful and delicious. - fried pickles, cheese sticks, wings, and jalapeño poppers- all amazing Can't believe I have been missing out all this time. Christina was our server. Drove from Fairbanks to try this place out. Sitting down, I noticed they focused on certain tables. I get that it's whoever orders their food comes out first. But as a server, you should be checking if someone's ready to order instead of going to their table 25 minutes after they sat down. This place isn't that big so I truly don't understand why it took so long. Next thing i noticed was when my friend ordered a pizza and calzone, christina (with a disgusted facial expression) said "Both? For here?" The food itself was horrible. If you're mainly known for pastas, my expectations are fairly high. The chicken was hard to chew, the sauce had a weird flavor to it, and the alfredo sauce tasted nothing like it should've. The pizza... dominos pizza looks more appealing and that's sad. When we were done and decided to leave, we asked for the check then asked for to go boxes and christina rudely responded with "should've asked for the boxes first." Not a place worth coming to. Came with a group of friends on a Friday night around 7pm. There was a mix of people there some to eat and most just to drink at the bar. Our waiter was great and the restaurant offered some great specials to include a 12 ounce ribeye which is what I recommend. It was cooked medium well just like I asked. Only complaint is the place looks like it hasn't had any renovations since the 1980s. read more

I've been visiting or ordering from Elf's Den since 1982. When I was a kid it was really the only restaurant in North Pole. My parents always came in for their anniversary. It had red velvet flock and gold leaf wallpaper (which was an activity in itself), as well as an Asteroids table and Kiss game (later i believe ams Pac-Man came in). I no longer live up here so it had been some years since re-visiting. It's been updated tremendously and looks far more chic and modern but you still have the cozy pool/game room to reminisce. The food has been GREAT on our last 3 visits (from March until now). The staff is really friendly and honest about how long your wait time is on the kitchen. I've had the Prime Dip, the specials, the stuffed Mushrooms (epic) and last night tried the Gyro. The meat was seasoned perfectly and there was plenty of it and the bread was soft. The other fillings were just the right proportions. My husband had the Terriyaki Chicken special and it was a very generous portion too. I love the crinkle cut fries and Jen is great with the cocktails. Super friendly and made us feel like we were old friends on the first meet. If you're looking for really good food and a comfortable atmosphere where your attire is not judged/ this is the spot!! By the way- I would like to try the Calzones. One table over ordered that and it was a MONSTER. Could easily feed 3 people to the brim. (The only reason it's not 5 stars is because the chairs are not the most comfortable and one of my Rib dips was 1/2 fat- but I have no doubt that if that order had been dine in- they'd have fixed it on the spot). read more

After a long, freezing day of snow machining, my friends and I dipped in here to grab a bite to eat. I ordered the NY Strip Steak with a salad and baked potato. On the advice of the waitress, I ordered it medium rare in hopes it would come out how I really wanted it - medium with some pink in it. Arrived perfect - and was surprisingly juicy and flavorful - esp for bar food (ESP in North Pole)! The salad was really nothing impressive and neither was the baked potato, but overall the steak left me pretty pleased with our choice of stop. My hot cocoa was barely warm though -- they could work on that. The others got a pizza - which I didn't try but they reported as pretty tasty - and a chicken sandwich - which he didn't like because it had mayo on it (he hates mayo though... so that's more of a personal preference than a real comment on the quality of the sandwich). The atmosphere was pretty laid back and service was friendly and quick. I was a fan of the pool table as well -- despite it having taken $2 to get *all* of the balls to drop and a weird smell in the upper room. This divey stop is worth a go as one of the few options in North Pole. Try it out. read more

Things seem to have gone downhill for this restaurant. Ordered an old fashion which had to be researched on their phone to get the ingredients. It was weak at best. The pepperoni pizza was missing most of the pepperoni! Some of the slices were missing pepperoni all together! The staff was nice and i did like the environment inside. Luna cooks the best steak in this town. Chicken Katsu is just like Oahu. Nice crispy outside, moist inside. Pizza's are toe to toe with Geraldo's in town. Yes, it's North Pole and it's an odd little building and kind weird to get to with the new traffic patterns. But good food and a friendly face is all it takes for me to give four stars. read more

Waitress is very nice. The bloody Mary is a watery tomato juice and bottom shelf vodka. The salad bar used to be great but now they serve your salad and it is greens with dressing sans tomatoes, etc; coffee is watery but hot. Dennys has better coffee. 22 minute wait for fried pickle appetizer. Bravely ordered T-Bone & baked potato...steak arrived 1 minute after appetizer without potato. Steak potato and bread are delicious. A little pricey but great size Tbone. Tonight the Elfs den gets a good rating read more

Outdated, nasty food, and dirty old restaurant. May have been a good place in the past.. But its pretty dismal now.

My husband and I came here on a Friday night as we were new in town and were making quick work of the places Guy Fieri had been to from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It was really hot in the restaurant, and their choice to close off nearly all the windows (with mirrors, stained glass and fake flowers) was kind of shocking. We waited about 15 minutes for our appetizer (stuffed mushrooms) and were kind of disappointed as the stuffing was mostly bread and butter. I found little slivers of lobster and crab, and my husband found a shrimp that had not been deveined (but that was the only shrimp in all 8 mushrooms). For our main entrees my husband ordered the reindeer hoagie and I ordered the prime rib hoagie. It was hard to enjoy either sandwich. The reindeer sandwich was smothered in marinara and the kind of processed mozzarella you'd find in Safeway. It was therefore hard to actually enjoy the reindeer sausage. I liked my prime rib dip except that there was a huge chunk of gristle about half the size of a dollar bill. This was unpleasant to bite into. The fries tasted like those crinkle French fries you buy from the grocery store and bake, and they had no seasoning to boot. When we got our bill, it was $51 for the 2 sandwiches, the appetizer and 3 pints of beer. Very expensive for not that great food. We had a much better experience at Big Daddy's BBQ and it was much less expensive. Unfortunately we most likely won't be returning here. read more

The food here is excellent. I had chicken cordon bleu and I am old so I have had many. This is probably the best I've ever had. It was homemade, the chicken was tender and it was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend that you come here to eat. read more

We ate here because of Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives......I am so angry I let a TV show direct me to spend a ton of $ on what was uneatable food! YES the place looks sketch with fake flowers, tacky decor, odd placements of mirrors, chezzy tablecloths....but hey it's Alaska. Alaska is a very different place so the look of the place didn't turn me off I thought well if Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives covered the place it's gotta be good. WELL IT SUCKED! Our table ordered fresh crab legs, Seafood Alfredo a sandwich and some other pasta thing . If it wasn't negative 47 and I was tired I would have considered talking to the manager about not paying for our $ 195.00 bill because none of us took more than 5 bites from our plates. The waitress was SHOCKED we didn't want to box it up to take home but heavens it was AWEFUL! IF you go there..........check out the nasty salad bar and trust me that will be the best part of your meal at the Elf's Den. PLEASE SKIP THIS JOINT! read more

Save your money, your time, and your stomach. Just go somewhere else. I wish I could not give this place a rating but it is mandatory. I do not know how ANYONE can mess up a pepperoni pizza! A Digiornio pizza would have tasted 100% better. It smelled like the carpets hadn't been cleaned since the 80s and the waitress would have rather been at the bar with her friends gossiping than doing her job. If I wouldn't have searched and found her after twenty minutes we could have just walked out without her even noticing. read more

I've been to this place a few times and every single time I go there I'm greeted by the most friendly staff I've experienced since I first started living here a year ago. Not only is the service here quick and friendly, but the food is set at a decent price for AK, and tastes absolutely fantastic, and the menu is varied so whatever you're in the mood for you should be covered. Their pizza is the best in North Pole, and so is their service, also, if you do come visit this place make sure you get some onion rings too! they're delicious. read more

I've been coming here since forever. I order the meat lover's pizza every time. This time was no different, I ordered for pick up, stopped in and didn't check it till I was home because I never had a problem until now. The pizza was the wrong size but charged for a large. 20% of the pizza had no cheese there was pineapple on it and the bottom of the whole pizza was burned. I called to report the problem and they told me make another. When I received the new one they tried to tell me it must have been a bubble to cook that way. I showed them the pizza so they could see what a subpar product they sent me home with and were making excuses for without even looking. read more

My homemade meatball sandwich was ground beef opened face sandwich , cold in the middle too :( My wife meatball pasta "we chop up the meatball" she was told but didn't mention its ground to the state of taco meat it never made it to meatball status! The French onion soup was clear, no caramelized onions so no sweet taste just bitter onion topped off with mozzarella! Garlic bread made from week old chewy bread, topped with fake butter oil. Onion rings were awesome, salad bar was good, service was nice. But don't eat there, maybe the drinks are better? Happy hour was 2 for 1 margaritas... read more

We came here as a family of four. We had a nice waitress, that said she was new and it was her 2nd week. She did great. We chose to try Elf's Den because they were on Restaurant.com and we were able to purchase a discounted gift certificate. After our meal (which was good, but not for the price in my opinion) we gave the waitress our gift certificate with our bill and she came back and said they could not accept it. She said the owner said they took down their promotion from restaurant.com and that i would have to pay with something else. After debating that they were in the wrong and that I paid for the gift certificate therefore they needed to honor it, they finally accepted it. This is not a restaurant we would have chose to go to if we didnt have the gift certificate. Not a place we will return to either. read more

Unfortunately this night dining out was the worst meal during my visit. The special of the night was meatloaf which was good. The mashed potatoes were cold. The service was lacking. My family of 4 plus a baby. Two of us chose meatloaf and we were served first, then a third meal came out. It took a long time for my granddaughter's nacho platter and we were pretty much done with dinner when the baby's grilled cheese sandwich appeared. While the food may have all been tasty a cold dinner was not. Eating in front of the others is not pleasant either. I hope for the sake of this restaurant that this was just a one time occurrence for poor service. read more
