We found this place by accident---happy accident--and had lunch there one day and breakfast on another. For lunch, I decided on the halibut melt, since I had never seen it on a menu before. I would describe it as a grilled cheese sandwich that contained a nice piece of grilled halibut. It seemed a bit salty, but otherwise, very tasty. For breakfast, i ordered the Oasis omlette (without the sausage), hash browns, and an English muffin. The omlette was so tasty, full of veggies (onion, bell pepper, black olives, jalapeños, mushrooms, and tomatoes) and topped with cheddar cheese. Very yummy and filling. The Oasis has a slight "divey" vibe, but with its friendly wait staff and down home cooking, it's filled with locals. Casual with table service and good, down home cooking.

In Fairbanks? Don't miss out. Truly delicious. We had Stormi and Daria for servers. I had the Ruben and my partner had a hamburger no cheese. We shared onion rings. She got a diet. I got their porter. I asked for lightly toasted bread- I got it. I asked for a delicious Ruben. Not only did I get it, it was one of the best Rubens I'd ever had. They make their own corned beef. It was perfect. This restaurant needs more respect for what it has done to remake itself.

What a pleasant surprise. We were looking for something besides the usual free hotel breakfast for our last day in Fairbanks. The Oasis is located off University Ave and close to our hotel. Our rental car was not due back until 11 so 8 am breakfast it was. The food and service were wonderful. The Cordon Bleu Omlet was Great! Very friendly place and it made a great start to our day.

Food was decent but the staff were incredibly rude and didn't acknowledge my friend and I at the waiting booth for 10 minutes. Then when we were addressed it was rudely and like our hostess couldn't be bothered.

There weren't too many options available for lunchtime since it was 3 pm and many of local restaurants in this area were closed so we decided to give this a chance. The building and neighborhood seems run down. The restaurant seemed like a dark dingy place with poor air conditioning. Floors and tables were unkempt. The server got the menu cards that were wiped with some stinky cloth and the menu card itself was wet and the whole thing smelled SO bad, so the moment they landed on our table, it was a huge turn off for me. We ordered breaded mushrooms, veggie burgers, chicken burgers and the halibut melt. The fries were good, mushrooms were ok-good. Service was quick. Mushrooms were served super hot so be careful before you pop one into your mouth! The veggie burger didn't seem like it was vegetarian - not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing, but for a vegetarian person it may not be palatable. I have tasted many meatless meat burgers and this one tasted exactly like meat. Would have preferred a veg burger that tastes vegetarian! The chicken and fish burgers were good. Prices were reasonable. Shout out to server who was very nice, patient and actually went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. I pointed out that there were 2 unattended dogs in a car in their lot and they made sure that they were ok and taken care of.

We have since gone here for dinner and they do some killer Philly cheesesteaks! Several varieties. All good! Good appetizers also! We've had fried pickles and pretzel sticks. It's a fun spot for a quick bite to eat.

(Real) Crab Eggs Benedict (half order)...delicious! Catsup added.

This is a great choice if you love Eggs Benedict, as they make 4 versions, one with real crab (absolutely delicious), smoked salmon (my fellow diners liked this one), Canadian bacon, and spinach & tomato, all with rich, smooth, yummy freshly-prepared Hollandaise sauce. They come with home fries, but you can sub with fruit cocktail, cottage cheese or sliced tomatoes. The half order of crab is about $10; whole order, about $16. Another friend ordered the Doc Gooding, a dinner salad of fresh greens (thankfully not iceberg lettuce!) alongside grilled halibut strips. Not an Eggs Benedict fan? The extensive menu includes many other palate-pleasing options from breakfasts to dinners. I drooled as an order of their decadent Stuffed French Toast went by. It's stuffed with cheesecake filling and topped with fresh strawberries and whip cream. Our server was excellent. She also works at another Fairbanks restaurants, and generously made suggestions for other places and menu items we might enjoy. Most notable were the dessert selections at The Cookie Jar! nother plus is the array of draft and bottled beer available, several of them local favorites (I posted a photo listing them). The Oasis is small and looks somewhat like a dive bar...not at all fancy...but I'd consider it a must-go among Fairbanks eateries. All Fairbanks restaurants are non-smoking.

Fantastic bloody and top shelf coffee.

Great breakfast had the corn beef hash special. The place isn't a lot to look at but good service and friendly service.

When I was a little girl, my parents didn't read me the typical princess fairytale bedtime stories…read more- I was a Sourdough; an Alaskan. Poems and ballads of Robert Service were spun to life as I was nestled into a swirl of downy rest. 'The Cremation of Sam McGee' was a favorite... a tale of sled dogs and friendships only the Yukon could build. But the story I always wanted to hear was 'The Shooting of Dan McGrew'... a cold blooded murder, a dusty piano, and a Lady that's known as Lou. The setting: The Malemute Saloon. Most childhood bedtime stories are set in fictional places with fictional characters. The Malemute Saloon was not only a real place, but a place that I knew and loved. My father, the bartender; my mother, the honky-tonk piano player. This place is legit. Sawdust floor, swinging doors, bar stools worn with years. The memories (now 20 years old) still fresh as new fallen snow. Huskies howling at the Northern Lights and the crunch of peanut shells under mud-caked boots. I couldn't think of a place more suited to raise a child. And, mark my words, the best custard you'll ever eat.
