Came here to check it out as it was really well rated on Google, but was thoroughly disappointed by the our experience here. I would not recommend it to anyone visiting Fairbanks. When we arrived, we found out that you'd need a reservation to dine in the main dining hall, so we ended up going to the Saloon side where we had to find our own seats. We sat near the pool table, and the chairs were super unstable. The staff were fine but clearly seemed busy and understaffed. It took a long time for them to bring us water and take our order. I tried flagging the waitress 2-3 times when she was passing by and felt very ignored especially as I've made eye contact with her a few times. We ended up ordering the fried seafood combo and the seafood chowder, and it ended up taking at least 20min to come out (even the soup). The dishes were all very salty and definitely needed a lot of water to go with the food. Overall, definitely not a place to go before a flight since you might not be able to get in and out very quickly, and the food was really just alright for the price. Perhaps the main dining room experience would be better but I still wouldn't recommend it given the food quality and service. read more

Got recommended by one of the locals to come to The Pump House. Definitely was down as this was the only true nice, sitdown restaurant that I had a chance to try during my trip to Fairbanks. Ordered Oysters on the Half Shell, a bowl of Seafood Chowder, House Mixed Greens Salad, and Seafood Risotto. I thought the food was great, especially the Seafood Risotto. They told us the main dinning room was booked until Friday but the bar was first come, they have an entire separate dinning room that they call "the bar area" and it was only half filled. Had dinner here last night as our last meal to end our vacation. The restaurant was rustic and charming and the service was good but the food was not good. We ordered the blue burger medium well and it was so dry and overcooked. The seafood risotto was a gloopy mess. The rice was still firm in the middle and was gummy and not creamy. My husband had the fried halibut and it was more soggy than crispy. The clam appetizer and the king crab were the best dishes but really the king crab was just reheated so hard to mess up. Great local restaurant with an old town, historic feel. It's almost like traveling back in time to the gold rush era. Such friendly service. I can here on vacation in November. It was so cold! That being said, have pretty much only good things to say. First of all, Joshua was our server and super friendly and helpful! He recommended some dishes which was great. Highly recommend following recommendations. We had the grilled salmon which hwas delicious. The maple syrup and black berry glaze on the salmon ended up on the potato wedges which elevated them to a whole other degree. My partner was absolutely in love with it. I personally loved the seafood chowder because it was thick and perfect. The bread was delicious and complex in flavor without being too much. The only thing that wasn't absolutely amazing was the crab mac. We also had the elk meatloaf which my partner loved. I personally found it too salty but that is more because I don't put a lot of salt in my food. The decor was SO cute. We spent six nights in Fairbanks, and this was our favorite meal. The blackened halibut was so delicious and tender, served with a basil sauce and a buttery risotto. It was so good that I wanted to go back the next night to eat it again. The restaurant itself is rustic and charming with interesting lodge-like decor, and a tin ceiling in the saloon. Ordered the grilled halibut and the fish and chips. The fish and chips tasted very fresh and had a lot of meat compared to the coating which was nice. The grilled halibut was alright; the skin was chewy instead of crispy. I did really enjoy the roasted potatoes and veggies that it came with though! Another thing is that they serve the cold packaged butter you usually find in hotels, which is hard to spread on the bread. Overall not an extraordinary experience like it's hyped up to be, but also not a terrible one. I think the historical monument aspect makes Pump House worth the experience read more

I was looking forward to this meal all week. Menu looked great. Upon arrival we were greeted by a delightful hostess and promptly seated...and that was the highlight of our meal. The indoor table was sticky and the entire place stinks of pinesol cleaner. The server was very slow to arrive and when he did he just stood at the table awkwardly. We ordered drinks, and he immediately asked if we were ready to order dinner. We placed our order and waited a really long time for our beverages(1 cocktail and 1 soda) . Food arrived in a very reasonable amount of time. The chowder was so thick it might as well been wallpaper paste-you could eat it with a fork. Flavor was just ok, but you could taste the thickener. My companion was done after 4 bites. I had the fried seafood combo. It was absolutely nothing special. Fries were lukewarm and soggy, and the batter on the fried items is THICK and I peeled most of it off, or when I bit it, it fell off. I left a pile substantial pile of breading on my plate. The platter had 3 shrimp, 2 scallop and 1 piece of halibut about half the size of a deck of cards. The coleslaw had almost no dressing and was dry. Ate 1 bite. The bread was excellent, thank goodness. We were offered dessert, but declined based on the quality of the meal. I wouldn't go back or recommend. This was an expensive mistake. read more

We have been to Fairbanks 5 times 2006, 2015, 2018, 2021, and 2025 and have eaten in the Pump House every time, twice in 2018. We took friends in 2015. Every time the food, service, and atmosphere have been top notch. The dining room has the comfortable old time feel of the gold rush from the upside down sled dog team suspended from the ceiling to the giant brown bear in the glass case. My wife and I both had the blackened halibut with pesto on polenta and it is perhaps the best we have ever eaten. There are a lot of good restaurants in Seattle that do a wonderful halibut preparation for $50 or $60 but this was the best and it was only $36.95. A basket of fresh sourdough bread was offered at no extra charge. A generous pour of house wine was under $10. The desert tray offered such a fabulous selection that my wife and I each ordered desert instead of splitting just one as we usually do. Kendall B gave us great service. We split a dinner salad, had 2 glasses of wine, 2 entrees and 2 desserts for $135.90 before tip, a bargain relative to Seattle prices and Alaska has no sales tax on the food and only 5% on drinks.
