The reason I'd rate the job done on my jacket lower is because my jacket had buttons on the sleeves. They asked me if I wanted the buttons, I said no. This is the bargain hunter's sewing service, especially the military bargain hunter. I've been going here for over two years. They sew on military rank and create name/service tapes, and they are faster and cheaper than most on-base alterations. I've also brought torn clothing to them which they repair quickly and effectively. Location is not immediately obvious, you have to go into the 99 Moanalua mall and go all the way to the back. They have several ladies hard at work, and can do rush jobs if need be. Prices, as I said, are better than any other place I've found. read more

Prices are totally affordable here. I brought in a dress that needed to be taken in on both sides (they even moved part of the zipper) and in the back for only $20. The seamstress did a phenomenal job - can't tell it was altered whatsoever. The Vietnamese woman who greeted me and pinned me (I think she was the owner) only pinned the sides though. I told her the back was still puckered bc it was too big but she said it would be fine. I didn't argue since she's the expert, not me, but when I got the dress back, the back was still too big! The Filipino seamstress (she sits in the back left corner if you're facing the store) was amazingly kind and altered the dress within 10 mins after I told her I was leaving Oahu in two days. That all said, the owner was also super accommodating with my travel arrangements and the dress was ready 3 days earlier than her typical timeline. Overall, 5. I would give this place Zero if there was an option. Absolutely horrible and NO Integrity. My husband dropped off a brand new dress that I only wore once and unfortunately it was to my mother's homegoing. He took the dress on the 20th of April. Went back the next week to pick it up and they didn't have it, and couldn't find it. So, we didn't think anything and he went back a couple days later to pick it up and they still couldn't find it and no it's a problem. They start taking it serious and calling around. They come back and tell my husband, "it's at the other location, we are working on the stain!" Of course my husband doesn't know and shares this info. I said my dress did not have a stain. So, today 12May21 he shows up to get my dress and it's cut into a shirt. My husband is on his way now with a receipt and pictures and I would like for them to replace my dress. Dropped off my trousers for hemming on Tuesday and was told it would.be finished on Friday . So today is Friday and I called to see if my trousers were ready and was told it was ready for pick up. Came here to have a shirt taken in & slacks hemmed. The lady that helped me who happen to be the owner had me try on the shirt first then showed me what she could do. After marking & pinning the shirt she quoted me $42, next tried on the pants she pinned it at the length I wanted then quoted me $10, total $54.45 including tax. After a week my items were ready and after trying both on I was very happy with her work! At first I was a little skeptical about the shirt since she said she would have to remove a lot of material and I thought the price for that was a little high but it was a Tommy Bahama shirt that I never used because it was too big after losing some weight. Needed a real wuick alteration done on my grandpa's two pants. Both of them needed to be let out one inch. Thats it. Simple. Apprently, its not simple. The material is too thick. They dont have the thread. They dont have the elastic. She was so busy telling me what they didnt have that i began to wonder why they were located under alterations. I didnt even get a chance to ask another question before she dismissed to help the next person. I guess it was worth the drive since i needed to stop at Servco but i will never come here again. I will never make a drive to get alterations at a place not prepared for alteration purposed. As for the location, if you are curious to know. I brought my motorcycle vest here to have my patch sewn on. Very sloppy work. DO NOT GO HERE!!! The patches were sewn on crooked and it wasn't centered on the vest. Had a bad experience with them. Paid over $80.00 for all my OCP tops to have seen on ranks and ASU pants done. Showed up at 4pm, when I was told it would be ready in the morning. Pants were literally sitting on a table, balled up with the crotch in shreds. I was then told that I need to wait 45 minutes for them to do their job I paid them for. Do not go here for your wedding or elegant gowns! I brought my wedding gown here; needed to be hemmed quite a few inches since I was wearing flats and the bust needed to be taken in a bit. Also cleaned/pressed to get the wrinkles out. The horrible job here practically ruined my big day! First, the ridiculous area they call a fitting room was covered with pins all over the floor. Very dangerous! The lady that did the fitting was nice but was in such a hurry, she pinned it crooked and something just didn't feel right about it but hey, what do I know? This was my first time getting anything altered. Fast forward a week- They asked me to come in to do another fitting to make sure and I did. It was still too long and I noticed green marker on the areas they were supposed to take in! Also, it was still wrinkled. I told them all these things and they assured it would be ready to go by the next week like I needed. I go in for the pick up and lo and behold, it looked exactly the same as it did the week before. All the wrinkles still there, still way too long and green markings. She tried to rub off the markings with a rag, are you serious? Imagine a beautiful white gown with GREEN MARKER LINES on both sides, completely visible! Since I only had less than a week before the wedding, I couldn't take it anywhere else. AND, she still charged me for the full price! I actually tripped on the gown walking down the aisle because of the length. I caught myself luckily and we laugh about it now but for those who are the bridezilla types and must have everything perfect, it would have been a disaster so I highly advise you take your business elsewhere read more

I would give no stars if I could but basically I came here because I called and ask them if they were going to be able to do what I needed over the phone and when I brought my 3 Jackets and 2 dresses to be sewn and altered here 1. The lady seemed as though she wouldn't give me the time of day and 2. Said now she couldn't do what she had told me she could over the phone which was sew patches on to my jacket! I used to sew quite a bit when I had a sewing machine at home and I know this wasn't a difficult job. I asked about wedding dress alterations and she was a little rude. My daughter needed to have two straps removed from the front of a dress. I usually use another business to do our alterations but this was last minute and the location was convenient. For $18 the straps were removed. My daughter picked up her dress and when she put it on to get ready for graduation I noticed one of the openings where the strap was removed was not sewn shut. Hey, you sewed three what happened to the fourth? I didn't give one star because my daughter should have checked before she walked out of the store--so that was on her. read more

I took my uniforms (1 old set, 2 new sets, and 1 hat) into this establishment to be cleaned, have patches, rank, and name tags sewn on. Another Soldier referred me to them, because they are cheap. I wanted everything sewn on and cleaned. When I wen to get my items, the hat was missing the name sewn on the back and the bottoms for the new ACU sets were missing, but the tops had the everything sewn on and were cleaned. The ladies were unwilling and disinterested in attempting to locate the pants. As I waited, various people would come in to this location and had issues. Some waited 30 minutes for them to locate their items. Two Soldiers admitted, they have had problems in the past, but they return because they are cheap. The customer service was horrible and this is clearly a error in which they have no interest in repairing. This may be a economically cheap place, but with weighing the options...this place is more headache and not worth it. This is a very small place and you can clearly tell it is not organized, but you figure it is a business and they must have a method. If you take your business here and find you have a issue, don't complain; you have been warned. Save your money and go to a more reputable business who cares about your business and customer service. read more

I have been going to El'gant Alterations (the location in Wahiawa) for about 20 years now for both my military and civilian tailoring as well as military unique requirements. They have always been very nice, welcoming, and the service is on par with Rose Lee's whom retired some time ago now. Since they opened the second store in the old 99 Ranch location I have been solely going to them for my tailoring needs. My wife has also reported to me that her clothes that needed altering done there were "good to go". I guess after reading the other reviews I would not take wedding dresses there, but just about anything else I have nothing but good things to say about this establishment. read more

Not the best place to go for alterations, you can find better. I went here twice and the first time I was charged $10 for a hem on pants, went back for another hem and was charged $14 dollars and not sure why cause I asked for the same job. I asked the lady why I was charged extra than the first time (mind you first time I went with my mom, which I why I think I was charged the $10) and she said it was because the pants were different color from the first time, which really shouldn't matter (as I talked to another alteration place). So not only was I ripped off, but also I went back to pick up my clothes the day they told me and said it was not ready and to come back two days after. I wouldn't have mind picking it up another day in fact later if they had just give me a call to let me know that it was going to take longer. Drove down there for them to tell me to come back later, sorry but I don't have all the time in the world!! Lastly as I was waiting for someone to get my pants, I stood inside the cluttered store for 15min until I was helped even though there were two ladies doing nothing but chit chatting. WARNING: If you pay in advance with cash and they hand you a receipt, make sure they put a big red stamp on it that reads PAID. Otherwise when you go in to pick up your garments they will charge you again. Could have been a careless mistake on their part but I doubt it. My wife and I have used this place exclusively for I would say the past decade. Their work is admittedly exceptional but their service has dramatically dropped in recent years. The problem: Last year, my wife took in some clothes to get altered and was told it would be ready in a week (standard practice for them). Went to pick it up and low and behold, it wasn't ready. Was told to come back the next day. Again it wasn't ready. It was almost a full week before she got her garments back. I just experienced the same thing. I went to pick-up my order and they hadn't even touched it!!!! As you may imagine, I was upset and asked for my clothes back to have it done elsewhere. Maybe their popularity is their downfall. If they need more time, they should just state so in the beginning (or call the client to inform them it's not ready). Otherwise, you waste time, gas & money going back and forth on promise dates they cannot keep. You've been forewarned. They do good work but have a difficult time keeping up with the dates they promise to have your item(s) ready. read more

I recently bought some pairs of dress pants and needed to hem them because of my short legs, even with petite pants. Previously, I've hemmed pants myself - which means the hems don't stay up that well and the hems don't look too pretty. Not at all. So on the way home from the shopping spree, I stopped by El'gant Alterations 2 in Moanalua 99 to check out the prices for alterations. The alterations were reasonably priced - $7-8 for basic hem, $12 for hem cuff. These prices are much better than the prices I saw posted at Nordstrom Rack (but still pretty cool can do tailoring and alterations at the store). El'gant has a little dressing room customers can use to try on clothes and to get pinned. Now I know where to go to get my pants hemmed. I'm even considering getting them to fix or redo my DIY hems. read more

Took my dress in for a hem. I was in a rush so I told them to take off x amount of inches each layer because having my young children with me I did not want to try on in the small space they had as their fitting room. But the elderly lady insisted I tried it on. So after 4 times saying I don't want to try it on, I just gave in. So my kids and I all squeezed in the fitting room and I got the dress on, I noticed little needles on the carpet scattered. Which made me nervous that my kids would pick them up and start playing with them or accidentally get poked. While I was waiting for someone to come, I could hear them talking in vietnamese, saying "this stupid girl doesn't want to try on the dress, how does she expect us to know where to hem" little did they know I understood because I was raised in a vietnamese household. With the fitting area so narrow, even if my kids were not in there, there was still no room for her to work. So the lady gets down and starts to pump white marking on, she then complains about her back and just sat in one place. I tried to turn as she was marking it to make it a little easier but she was doing it so fast that I could not keep up. Once she pinned the dress she made sure it was all even. This was on a Tuesday. She asked when I need it by and she said soonest would be a week so I told her I would come the following Wednesday. The week goes by and I get a call Monday afternoon asking if I can come in and retry the dress on because the markings were uneven. I told her I can try to come before they closed at 6:30 but she insisted I try to get there before 5. I'm sorry, but we all have busy lives and I've already took the time to do the markings when I first took the dress in nearly a week before. By now I am furious that I had to go out of my way to get there before 5. So I just picked up the dress and left. The lady never apologized for any mistake or even tried to convince me she could do it. All she said holding my dress in one hand and with the other hand out "receipt?" I gave her the receipt and left. They are unprofessional, and most of all rude. I will not be returning. Negative stars if I could. read more

I took a very full chiffon ball down here to get hemmed. Dropped it off on Monday and needed it before Friday evening. I called several places in the area and they were the only ones able to do it on such a short notice. They did a phenomenal job hemming, looked like the original hem. They even had it dry cleaned by Thursday at 10am. I will be taking more of my business here. Only con is a language barrier, if you want something complicated done it might be a little hard to convey that message. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ITEMS HERE! At first they were the BEST even in the beginning we had some issues that were made by them with this order but for some reason after talking to the Lady originally which was all fine turned into the exorcist! She said they would help fix it to just bring them back well as we know life does get busy which I told her that my husband was on the color guard for his duty station so he was always gone and needed his dress uniform so I couldn't take them back right away. Well I brought one of the 2 shirts back, they found the missing button from his top coat and the second time around bringing back the pants she refused to replace the oil (confirmed by another dry cleaners) from their pressing machine, from the yellow stripe on his pants!! A week later as I said. We thought it was ink but in fact it was oil! They refused and even questioned me after they agreed to fix their mistakes the second time I came in to pick up my other order and bring in the damaged pants and 2nd of the 2 shirts that smelled originally like oil. The same elderly lady started to deny that it was them and even smelled my husbands shirts after telling her that he had no choice but to wear them AGAIN! For the third time! that's why I had the order RUSHED! Nope not having it, she yelled at me as if I was trying to argue with her. I had to tell her to stop yelling and trying to argue with me, if its not going to get fixed what's the point? I didn't call her names or yell at her or even try to argue with her. Especially with someone who is acting like a child. No reasoning with people who are not willing to listen. I am not there to get my clothes cleaned for free, I just would like them to correct their mistakes and she refused to take care of the pants only the shirts, which I questioned that if they don't smell like oil but you're willing to clean them for free, why would you not believe me about the black marks that's proof on the pants? She got very upset and got loud. She should of just said no and charged me for my shirt. They said no charge on the other white dress shirt which I wasn't happy with it anymore no matter the outcome. I just wanted my items and kinda demanded she charge me for the "no charge shirt" because now it's down to the principal of this issue. I didn't want a darn thing, I explicitly asked her to charge me for the "NO CHARGE SHIRT" they said "why you wait so long, we can't fix that, not our fault" okay but that doesn't follow through with my request to charge me for the shirt that you said wasn't your fault either, guess we have our own pressing machine and we sprayed it with machine oil sent. Never again will we do service there! Don't waste your time to make a mistake I just made by giving them a chance and when something happens to a item that is actually costly to replace it's all the sudden not their fault! I truly hope they grow up and be more professional with their customer service.I still respected her as I've been taught to with all of my elders but I did not say thank you when leaving because I did not leave with customer service and let her get to me. Shame on you people for questioning me as if it was our error but now we have proof that in fact it was yours. No need to make this into a bigger deal than what it is. I use to like this place until yesterday 5/28/2013, I went in to pick up my 4 pants and 3 army name tags for my 3 son's Karate bag and I waited for 25 minutes. They stated they could not find it. I have loosed my receipt and they stated because of that, they could not locate my items. I left my name and number so they could call me when they found my item, on 5/29/2013 @ 1200 hrs. I called them and spoke to the slow Caucasian guy and he stated that I already picked it up, I then replied w/I am the person that came in yesterday to pick up my items, how could you say that, he then stated that he needed to find the ticket, I then called 911 to file a report and they told me they could not do nothing about it and that it was a civil matter, CAN ANYONE GUIDE ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION? Please all don't be stupid like me to lose your receipt and face this kind of situation, I have been wearing the same clothes to work for the last 4 years and finally I have saved enough money to buy me clothes, this kind of stuff happens, Lord please give me patients. if you want anything more detailed than a simple pants hem, DON'T go to them. i had several dresses that needed shortening. they did them once - hems were very obviously uneven; longer in the front or sides. the second time around it was ok. luckily there was enough length that the dresses didn't become like mini skirts! i will not go to this place for alterations again! read more
