Absolutely the worst dealership experience I have ever had dropped my car off for some warranty work was told by one service advisor that it would only take four hours then when I called to verify my appointments I was told by another service advisor that the warranty work would take all day then received a call at 4:30 in the afternoon that hey we need to keep the car overnight I would've liked to been informed that it would have to be an overnight thing. Then to come and pick up the car and the part it had to stay in overnight for and get repaired (it was a side skirt) looks EXACTLY the same as when I dropped it off. The service writers excuse......the car is bent. Your a dealership bringing in thousands of dollars a month in repairs and you couldn't make a PLASTIC SIDE SKIRT FIT RIGHT. by the way spent 5 minutes in my rainy driveway removed 1 5.5 mm bolt and the side skirt sat how it was supposed too. ONE BOLT I was out of a car for two days and I fixed it my driveway in 5 minutes. If that doesn't say something about the competence of this dealer I don't know what does. (Edit) totally forgot too they did an alignment in October still pulled hard left and drove exactly the way it did when I dropped it off and when I asked for the alignment print out I was told there wasn't one. Every alignment I've ever done I've handed the print out over. But mine was just no where to be found I guess. Obviously anyone who has given this dealership a positive review has never had the pleasure of dealing with the general manager or salesman Jeff. I bought a 2017 GTI that had come in off lease 2 days earlier according to Jeff. There were some major blemishes on the exterior. I was assured they would be repaired, even saw them written down on his wheel. I passed on several cars in the condition this one was in because they promised this one would be perfect. Long story short, make sure your car is perfect when you buy it. Do not trust this dealership to follow through on their word, I've been lied to and promised things that will never come to pass. After I write this review I'm calling an auto body shop and paying out of pocket to have my new car fixed up to par. Waited twenty years to buy this car and will never set foot in Elgin VW again. If this stops one person from buying a slightly blemished car from Elgin VW, I'll feel better about having a car VW Elgin refused to honor their commitment on. I'm sure the GM will respond with how rude I was, what an ignorant person I am, and my experience isn't typical. Who you going to trust, a former boy scout who's been a teacher for 20 years and is an active member of his community, or a GM who looks like he just fell off the volkswagon? This was a while ago, but I walked in here one morning eager to buy a car. I walked around for a great deal of time before I finally had to approach a salesperson myself. We sat down at her desk where I asked her a few questions about the brand new car I was interested in. She dodged my questions, handed me a brochure, & told me to "look into it." Then she basically wrapped up the conversation and walked away. After that horrible experience, I went to a different dealer and bought a car that day. I would hate to throw someone under the bus, but I really wish I remembered that woman's name because her skills definitely require some improvement. I had bought a used VW Beetle for my daughter from a dealer in Naperville. I go past the VW dealership in Elgin so I took the car in there and paid $145 for an inspection. Letting them know that I had bought the car for my daughter and wanted them to check the car out to make sure it was in good shape. I also had a smell of fuel in the cabin when you start the car which could be somewhat normal. They checked the car and told me I needed new filters, air, cabin and that there was a rusty clip that held the exhaust in place. Other than that, the car was in good shape. I went on my way and let them know I would bring it back to get the work done. Covid 19 happened and during the shut down I did not know they were still opened. When I found out they were still opened a few months later, I took the car in and got the clip replaced and the cabin filter etc... My daughter started to drive the car more often as we moved into the different stages of Covid. The car would make a crinkling noise in the front wheels regardless if she was turning, stopping or coming off the driveway. I went back there a bit later and let them know of the noise. They charged me another $145 even though I paid for the check up before. They return with the comment that the front suspension and springs were totally rusted out and needed to be replaced. I told the advisor that there is no way they could or should have missed this the first time and they should not charge me the second $145. He continues to tell me they will credit me this amount when I get the springs etc changed. Price was around $1500. Wow, how could they miss this and how can a car with only about 54,000 miles have such rusted shocks etc... I left and decided to wait a couple of weeks to get it repaired. Well, it was more like 5 weeks later, I called a shop that does these repair. At first I get a price over over 50% difference than the dealer. Okay, dealerships charge more, we all know this. The guy puts the car up plays with it for about 30 minutes, comes back and says I am ready to go. Final bill $69. What happened to the springs and shocks? I ask. Oh, they are not rusty, they are in good shape. That noise needed an adjustment, it was done and no noise. This VW dealership in Elgin wanted to charge me for rusted shocks etc... Nothing like that was wrong with my daughters car. We are driving it today and free of any noises. I am considering complaining to the state about this situation. read more

Jeff was an easy and helpful salesman to work with. I was able to bring my mechanic in to check the vehicle out and they were kind enough to put it up on a lift with no problems. Everything checked out and we ended up buying the vehicle. So far so good, no problems with the car. I will recommend this dealership to friends and family looking for a new vehicle. read more

I leased a 2019 Jetta SEL here. The salesman, Rob Koenig, was very friendly, spent a lot of time with me, let me drive the car all over the place including the expressway, and was very responsive in negotiating the lease, meeting my requirements for the lease. The lease paperwork was as promised. I love the car. The 1.4L turbo engine is very responsive, very quick, and I nearly always get near 40 MPG and on long trips exceed it. The 8 speed transmission is great, shifts very smoothly and never hunts for gears. The car is fun to drive, handles great, and is easy to park. Visibility is great and the backup screen is very high resolution and extremely gives a great view backwards. The interior is great. The stereo is incredible, the 8 inch touchscreen responds instantly, never hesitates, and is very easy to understand and use. The seats are very comfortable. I've been on a couple 5 hours trips and the seats were great, unlike my last car where I was in pain after an hour and half. I love the car. I have had no problems at all. I love the dealership, very clean, very nice, and the people are great to work with. A+ read more

My passat was not holding coolant and needed other work as well so I took it to Elgin Volkswagen April 18, 2016. They managed to fix it all that day and I picked it up close to their closing time. Close to home warning lights and messages were showing that a coolant over heating problem was happening. I pulled over and called Elgin Volkswagen who was closing in ten minutes. Even though the service department was closed a person from the service department met me at my car, drove me the rest of the way home and arranged to have the car towed back to the shop. The problem was a simple air bubble that had formed so they brought my car back to my house before I needed to leave for work the next day. The car is running good now and has no additional problems. The advertisement they posted of a particular black Subaru Forester showed an almost new car, they said there was nothing wrong with the car, and well maintained. I live in Oshkosh and decided to call beforehand to let them know that I wanted to look at the car, cash in hand. We drove three hours to see this car, and upon arrival we were very disappointed at the cars' actual condition. The car was leaking oil, and after opening the hood we noticed that the engine bay had lots of rust, more than a car should have that's only one year old. The salesman apologized for having us drive three hours, he said that they did not realize that the car was leaking oil. A car dealer should at least check their vehicles before putting them out on the sales floor. We were very, very disappointed with Elgin Volkswagen. I would NOT RECOMMEND this dealership for purchasing a used vehicle! I should have realized it was a "Red Flag" when signing the purchase agreements and came across an ARBITRATION AGREEMENT which limits your recourse with any vehicle problems and dealer responsibilities. I understand the vehicle was used and buyer beware etc., but I was told to my face from the Manager that the car was a trade in from a friend of his and that it was in great shape. Three weeks after the purchase the car was at a Ford dealership with transmission issues and Check Engine light on. I had 2-O2 sensors replaced and was told to keep an eye on the PTU (Gear box) for transmission. I tried to contact my salesman "Peter" at Elgin VW but he never responded. 1 week later, the PTU went out and is currently in the transmission shop. I contacted Elgin VW a second time, explained the situation and how much it would cost and again... No Response from Elgin VW. Apparently the arbitration agreement provides a third party arbitrator to hear the case. They are conveniently located (not!) 65 miles away in Chicago and there's no guarantee that I would win my case. I just wanted Elgin VW to stand behind a vehicle they sold and meet me half way with repair costs but they would rather ignore the customer and hope the situation goes away. Shame on Elgin VW and my salesman "Peter" and the same goes for the manager who won't stand behind the cars they put on the lot. If I had the car more than a month or two and the problems started, I may not have left this review but after only 3 weeks and the car needs a new trans gear box and O2 sensors which leave a $2k hole in my pocket and absolutely no response from the dealership, leaves me to believe they don't care about the customer, only the cash! read more
