This cute little cafe is the perfect stop if you're just passing through or if you're staying for a while. The staff is so friendly and greatest each person who walks in, several of them by name. The restaurant was very busy in the midst of serving a very large unanticipated group (15+) along with 4 or 5 other tables when we arrived, so we had to wait to be seated and served. With only 3 employees, they were really scurrying, but were efficient, friendly and apologetic for our delay. We only had tacos/enchiladas & taco salad, but they were tasty. read more

Got lucky and made it to Springer right at lunch time. Although there were a lot of cars outside they had plenty of seating and we got a table right away. While trying to decide on what to get I saw that they had samples of their red and green chile available which helped make my decision so much easier. I chose the red chile with beans and onions with a flour tortilla and I'm so glad I did. My family ordered a smothered burrito with green chile which was excellent....the beans and rice that came along with it were also excellent, a tostada which was very good and a bacon cheeseburger which was also very good. The service was very prompt and everyone was very friendly and helpful. So glad we got to try this place and would definitely plan our next meal around this place the next time we're going to be close. read more

We cannot say enough good things about this cafe. Everything we got was amazing - we cleaned our plates. My husband got the huevos rancheros with green chili, which came with a side of hand-made flour tortillas so fluffy. I got the classic breakfast with perfectly crispy hasbrowns, the best bacon I've had in a while, and a pancake with balanced sweetness. Esteban, our host and server, was phenomenal and welcoming. Elida's is one of a couple restaurants in Springer, and is the one that is open on Sunday, so I stopped while traveling through. It is a small "ma and pa" local kind of place that serves both Mexican and gringo food. I got there before the rush that ensued shortly after I sat down and was served quickly. The food took a little while to arrive, but that is because it was made to order and not slopped on the plate from a steam table The downside is being charged for chips and salsa, normally complementary at most Mexican restaurants. Then there is the flat 2.50 fee for using a credit card. On a ten dollar ticket, that's 25%! I spent more than ten, but I paid cash. Those negatives aside, I would definitely return. read more

At first glance, this small cafe isn't much to look at, but don't let the outside fool you! The inside resembles a quaint, country-style cafe. There are no booths and NO BOOSTER SEATS if you bring a small child. The inside is appears to be kept in good, clean condition. I felt a little unsure about a child working here as a waiter -- filling drinks, taking orders -- but I don't know how New Mexico law stands on child labor. Other than him, there was only one other waitress (I assume his mom) serving and taking care of everyone. I ordered coffee to drink, and I have to say it was some great coffee! It tasted fresh, and had good flavor. Chips and salsa come standard. To eat, I ordered the smothered burrito plate, with beef and cheese only (I never eat the sides so I asked for none). I also asked for red sauce, and found it to be quite spicy. It filled my plate like a moat. The taste of the sauce dominated the dish, so I couldn't even taste my burrito. It was a huge mess to eat. My mom ordered the tamale plate with two tamales -- she said it tasted like nothing and was also swimming in red sauce. Overall, not very impressed. Rate 2/5 stars. read more

Stopped here on our way to Colorado. It's definitely a little mom & pop restaurant, was pretty busy but unfortunately there was only one server for the whole place so we ended up staying longer than we would have liked (reason for the -1 star) Food was pretty good, my eggs were cooked perfectly (over medium). We were on a tour of Colorado and New Mexico for a few days and on the way back to Tulsa we passed through Springer. Elida's caught our eye. We walked in and everyone was very friendly. I ordered the Chile Relleno plate and it was amazing. The refried beans were amazing and authentic too. My wife ordered one taco and one chile relleno. She enjoyed them as well. Not sure if we will ever get back to Springer anytime soon but Elida's will be on our list of must stop places. read more

October 2021 Lunch: Located on the business road that loops from north to south on Hwy 25, so you're really not going out of your way, this little restaurant has a lot to offer. The food was fresh and good, and their menu was pretty extensive. The restaurant was cheery and clean, which in an obviously older building was nice to see. Friday lunch brought in a number of to-go orders from locals and several parties that were spaced out just enough to give the waitress and cook time to keep all of our orders coming out in good time. If time is an issue for you, you'd want to call in your order. We were early enough on our way to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, so we dined in. There are so few choices on the way from Colorado that I'm glad we did. Prices were good. Portions were normal (not the overfilled plates that are so common nowadays). We both enjoyed our meals. The rice and refried beans were very fresh and homemade. I'm going to be wishing I had tried the tamale that I couldn't choose between, forever. That and the burritos we saw served looked delicious. Lastly, the bathrooms were very clean, the waitress was helpful and nice, and it was worth our time. read more

This place was recommended by a local to us as we were driving in from Texas. Really didn't look like much on the outside but do not let that fool you. The food was awesome. Quite possibly the best breakfast we had while traveling. And since, I have been on the hunt for anything equally as good. Haven't found it yet. They converted us to green sauce but perhaps only in New Mexico. Folks were nice. Absolutely would stop here again. read more

We always stop here on our way to the mountains and have always loved it. They really need another waitress because the one is too busy to adequately serve everyone. This time....we were grossed out with a false eyelash under the sopapilias and honey packets. Nobody working there wore falsies so we don't know where it originated.
