We were on our way back to Austin, and wanted some good Mexican food one more time, and Elida's did not disappoint! The staff accommodated my request for Huevos Rancheros, even though it wasn't on the menu. I got a generous portion of refritos and some hash browns, and two eggs done perfectly over easy, and the red chile was flavorful. My partner had a chicken burrito with Christmas chile and he was just as happy with his choice. Super good food and great service from our waitress! Very small restaurant with only one waitress working but we were the only table. Food was delivered quickly. We ordered nachos, chicken quesadilla, and a combination plate with an enchilada and a tamale. All was super good. Great prices as well and the bathroom was very clean! I miss this place so much! It is now our go-to eating stop between home and Taos. Used to live in Springer and I totally took it for granted. This restaurant has a menu with lots of variety. Mostly Mexican food but also had chicken tenders. We went there because of the tenders but once we got there our grown daughter decided to have beef fajitas which she said were delicious. I had a mixed plate with an enchilada, tamale and a crisp taco. Husband had three crisp tacos. Everything was good. They were out of rice due to spring break according to the waitress so we got to substitute pozole (posole) which is a soup made with hominy and meat. The pozole was great! The meat was pork and it was extremely tender and the flavor mild but very good. read more

This was absolutely one of the best, authentic meals I've had in years. It isn't overly spicy. The refried beans were better than my mothers. The service was outstanding. It is in a little tiny cafe but well worth the price; which was by far the cheapest ever. I'm from Maryland and this same meal would be 3-4xs the price. read more

I've been stopping here for Sunday breakfast for longer than I can remember. (Been going to Raton almost every year since 1993 and always, since discovering this place, stop here on my way back to ABQ.) The stuffed sopapilla is my favorite but the smothered burrito is also good. Either will hold you until dinner. This year (2022) was the first time I had a chance to stop for lunch. Stopped here for lunch on our way home to Texas. Lots of cars outside so we thought that was a good sign. 13-15 tables and only 1 waitress running her tail off waiting on tables & taking money. Good variety on menu. Hubby ordered a combo Mexican plate with enchiladas & taco. I ordered cheese chili relleno. Beans and rice were good but taco shell was not crisp and enchiladas were fair. The chili rellenos were very tough but tasted fair. The price with water was only $17.67. It could have been worse but I don't think I would ever stop here again. read more

This gem in the small town of Springer, NM is absolutely worth stopping at as you travel along I-25. On our way to Denver we stopped for breakfast. The stuffed sopapilla was delicious with both green and red chili. On the way to AZ we stopped in again, this time for lunch. Angela greeted us and welcomed us back. That's one of the best aspects of Elida's, everyone is so friendly, including the locals who always say hello. We'll be sure to stop here again whenever we find ourselves in the area. read more

Absolutely delicious. I'm originally from New Mexico and needed one last chile fix before heading back to Washington...luckily, we found Elida's. I had cheese enchiladas Christmas style and my husband had a bacon green chile burger, both excellent choices! Very warm and friendly people running the place too. Place is a small converted house on the side of the road. The enchiladad were good and service was quick.

Just finished lunch. This restaurant is a quick jog from I-25 and easy to find. We were greeted and were told to choose where to sit. Waitress came right over and we were served quickly. She checked several times and kept the iced tea glasses full! Had the combo tamale and taco plate. It was excellent. Husband had the taco plate and he was full when we left and said the seasoning on the beef tacos was tasty. Waitress gave us a glass of iced tea to go with no extra charge. I really loved the food and the atmosphere was great. The water was sub-par because I'm used to exquisite, high quality water because I live in the high alpine where I only drink the finest, glacier fresh snow melt. Anyways, great place to stop so you should definitely stop by for a nice coffee and a quick bite to eat. read more

We left red river early on Sunday morning to make it home at a decent hour. No where was open and this restaurant was a last resort after driving through 3 towns with no restaurants. I was worried about the quality of service based on other reviews that I had read but was pleasantly surprised, there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant but she handled it great. Drinks stayed full, food came quickly, and the food was top notch. Considering this was a last resort for us, I couldn't be happier, full stomach and back on the road in a reasonable amount of time. Great traditional New Mexican food in a clean, comfortable environment. I had the beef stuffed sopaipilla with red chile. My companions had tamales and enchiladas. It was all tasty, including the sides of rice and beans. The rice was well seasoned and not mushy. Service was prompt and friendly. The chile was flavorful but not very hot. I've eaten there several times and it was always good. The ambience isn't fancy, just simple and well-lighted like a hometown cafe. read more
