We had such a great experience at Farmhouse Cafe! The ambiance was lovely and had such a welcoming, relaxed feel. There was about a 30 minute wait when we arrived, but it honestly flew by since there are some fun little shops nearby to browse while you wait. They are also dog friendly on the outdoor patio, which we really appreciated! Just keep in mind that the wait for outdoor seating can be a bit longer. We ordered the Farmhouse Breakfast and huevos rancheros, and both were delicious. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the potatoes were seasoned so well. I also tried the Maya hot chocolate, which was delicious, along with the sparkling cranberry juice. Our server was friendly and attentive, and we grabbed a few pastries from the front beforehand . They were all so good, but the savory goat cheese and tomato pastry was definitely a favorite. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the freshness and quality of the food. Absolutely loved everything about this place. I love how I was treated nicely by all the staff I encountered and I loved how quickly service was completed. The food was delicious and wasn't pricey. I order a scramble and it came with toast, potatoes, and fresh jam. The orange juice seemed to have been fresh squeezed too. So yummy! We love this sweet spot with great views. Had lunch there this week and we had the Piccadillo Bison Empanadas and the Chicken Pot Pie. Both were excellent. The empanadas had a great smokey flavor. We ate lunch at Farmhouse Cafe and Bakery. We had heard the chicken pot pie was the stuff of legends, so we both ordered it. It was good, although I think I would ask for light gravy if I ordered it again. The crust was obviously house made and substantial. The chunks of chicken were tasty, and all the veggies tasted fresh. It was a treat! It came with a very nice house salad that also was prepared with care. And a really nice dressing. Hubs ordered a side of fries that I thought were not great. Soggy and oily. I'd probably skip those. We enjoyed the outdoorsy, farmsy feeling. We would definitely return here to eat. read more

We stopped by here after doing a hike close by. The main reason why we chose this place was because we knew it was dog friendly. We got in right around 2:30 and they close at 3:00. We were seated pretty quick. Parking is a little tricky because you have to drive around to the back. We ordered the BLT with a side of fries and a bison burger with potato salad as the side. I ordered my burger med rare and it came out between medium and well done. Burger itself was tasty, but I didn't get any hint of green chili in the bun. The veggies I put on my burger tasted fresh. My girlfriend said the BLT was pretty good. I had a bite of the sandwich and I liked it. The bread is what made it for me. It was a really nice day and sitting outside was perfect because it was nicely shade and there was a cool breeze. Overall I like the place and the food was good and tasted fresh and its dog friendly. This restaurant came highly recommended to us by people who insisted we drive through Taos instead of going straight to Santa Fe. This restaurant is adorable with really good outdoor space. We thought it was a little windy to sit outside, so we ate inside and were fortunately seated in the sunroom so we still got to enjoy the sunshine without all the wind. I ordered a mocha, and it was seriously delicious. A work of art. I was happy to see there were so many gluten free options. My daughter is gluten free, and I tend to eat gluten free with her whenever I can. There were so many gluten free options, I had a hard time choosing between the enchiladas and lasagna. I ordered the lasagna and had a little bit of regret when it came out pretty dry. Throw a little more sauce on that thing and it would have been about perfect. read more

Great food, great atmosphere, great service, and multiple vegan options! I came in for brunch with an awful hangover and left feeling much better. (I forgot that Taos is a good 2,000 feet higher than Denver.) The wait was not long, even at quarter to eleven on a Sunday, and there are lots of adjoining shops as well as a wind-powered art exhibit to enjoy, not to mention the gorgeous mountain views. The waitstaff were prompt, courteous, attentive, and great with kids. I ordered some hot ginger tea for my tummy as well as a raspberry bar and the curried squash pie with salad. It really hit the spot. The pie tasted like a giant squash samosa, and I took what I couldn't finish back home to eat later. It was so good, I think I'm going to have to try to replicate it. El Prado is not exactly a booming city, or even town, but it does boast this super healthy, farm-fresh cafe in what passes for a mini mall in a field. It's staffed with a wonderful assortment of healthy, tattooed wait staff, all helpful and knowledgeable of their fare. And they've got something for every taste, from vegan to meat eaters. The atmosphere is open, friendly, thrift store charm, with mismatched tables and chairs throughout the large indoor dining area. There is also a very large outdoor eating area that stretches around two sides of the cafe. The portions are healthy and the food delicious. All the pastries, of which there are many, are all made healthfully on site. Don't forget to take a walk around the outside, explore the coy pond with all its critters and wander thru the spinning metal art all around the cafe area. If you have a little more time, It is well worth stopping in the Carol Dee's Art Gallery (see my review on this gallery) just next door to the Farmhouse Cafe, it's not your average NM art gallery, but rather an explosion of mostly local modern artists and their works. The chocolate cake is the best! it's usually the only reason I pop in. We thought we'd give them another chance after years of not eating their food. We should have listened to our instincts . We spotted this charming and slightly rustic cafe on our way out of Taos and I only wish we had seen it sooner so we could have tried more menu items. It was so hard to make a decision because everything looked fresh and amazing. The inside is charming with its views and mismatched tables and chairs. It really did feel like a home. Solomon was our server and he is just a delightful human that I'm glad we had the chance to interact with. He explained that any and everything on the menu that could be as locally sourced as possible, is just that. Wow! The food definitely reflected this practice. It is a unique and varied menu, and really had something for everyone. I had a spicy chai to start with and when I tell you it tasted 1000 times better than the typical, overly sweet concentrated chai you normally get at coffee places? Believe it. Their bakery items were a little sparse but I snagged one of the last cinnamon rolls to go and it was perfect. Everyone was happy with their breakfast selection and guess what? One of the joys of traveling is to eat delicious meals as well as just great bake goods. We arrived to Taos from Chama late morning with an almost full belly. However, the reviews on the Farmhouse were too good to pass up stopping by and have some pastries and drinks. The place is "an instagram picture" every way you look. The simple menu shows the great creativity of the chef, along with the owners created a charming country atmosphere setting. A place to relax enjoy a meal or just some coffee. We were three people and we shared a cinnamon roll, an Almond Square and their Chocolate Zucchini Cake. The pastries are out of this world! My son ordered a House made Spiced Chai and I had a Cortado coffee. The servers are super attentive and polite as I observed throughout the cafe. They have several tables inside but a lot more on the porch and the garden. If I lived in Taos it would be a place where I could go weekly. I have had breakfast twice at Farmhouse Café and Bakery. I would rate it 4 1/2 stars. The hostess today was sweet, but a little dim. The two waitresses who helped me were friendly and speedy. Darling little cafe with a bakery. My friend had a huge stack of yummy almond flour pancakes with fresh fruit. They included bananas, strawberries and giant blueberries. It also came with two slices of crispy bacon. I had a mushroom shepherd's pie with corn, peas, carrots, and Muslim a tasty gravy. It was covered with crispy mashed potatoes and a white cream gravy. It also included a side salad of mixed greens, shredded carrots and red cabbage and cucumber slices. It has a balsamic dressing. The tomato basil soup was huge and delicious with a freshly made roll. Every trip to Taos I find a favorite place to eat. This trip it was Farmhouse! This was a last minute choice based on Yelp reviews and it was a great find. The setting is perfect, plenty of parking and a mountain backdrop! We were greeted warmly and seated near a window with that great view. Our food was scratch made, wonderfully prepared. Special shout out to the coffee, best cup I had in town. Finally, the sourdough toast is incredible. Check out their bakery on the way out. Nestled toward the back of the Overland Ranch property, Farmhouse Cafe is like a visit to Grandma's house--if Granny is a little crunchy. The menu has a little bit of everything for everyone from traditional bacon and eggs breakfast to a vegetarian shepherds pie (that can be made vegan). Kids both had hot chocolate and pancakes. The hot chocolate didn't come out of a packet. It was frothed whole milk with cocoa powder and just enough sugar to please the kids' palate. The pancakes are gluten free, so "different" from what my kids are used to, but they enjoyed them. They were given a tiny ramekin with syrup, so we had to ask for more--and that still wasn't enough, but it's not the restaurant's fault that my kids like their pancakes saturated with syrup. SO had huevos rancheros with a side of red and green chile. He wasn't in love with the casserole style dish, but he ate it and said that he liked the red chile better than the green. He also had a caramel latte, which he enjoyed, citing it had plenty of frothy milk compared to the watery kind he usually gets at a certain chain with a mermaid logo. I had a Mayan hot chocolate, which is basically a regular hot chocolate with cinnamon and dusted with red chile powder. I had mine made with almond milk, and it was just as frothy and indulgent as hot chocolate should be. I also had the curried squash pie, which is also gluten free. The crust was burned, so I was not a fan of that. Truly, I wouldn't have served an item with black crust--but not my circus. Burned crust aside, the pie was the consistency of squash and cooked celery bits--not really pleasing to the eye, but the flavor more than made up for it! I'd eat it again. The pie came with a small side salad of spring mix and a tiny ramekin of balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The salad was a little wilted, but I don't think I've ever had a spring mix salad that wasn't kind of wilted. Service was attentive and quick, which is always appreciated. read more

The burger was impossible to eat without a fork. It crumbled into its base elements. So, okay. Fine. I ate it as if it were a casserole. My potatoes were limp, greasy, not cooked. I mean, not cooked. Also not hot. I tried three wedges I could not eat them. I asked got a to go box thinking to finish cooking them at home, maybe have them for breakfast. I made it to the guest house I'm staying in just as my stomach began roiling. I'll spare the details but for the next forty minutes I was back and forth in the little room as my body purged itself. If you're thinking hidden local gem where they care about quality food and patrons returning, this isn't it. It's a tourist spot. Late Friday morning. The wait to dine outdoors is 20 minutes. Not bad, but we took the offer to be seated immediately indoors by the window. Service was polite but automated, like they run through tons of people like you a day. It's probably true. They move guests in and out quickly. Food was unremarkable. Bison Stew tasted like a regular cup of chili. Ham & Swiss Sandwich was a bit dry, but I liked that the ham was thick-cut. GF Carrot Cake was good, but I've never had carrot cake that wasn't. The Mayan Warrior, Mayan hot chocolate with a shot of espresso, tasted mostly like milk. We watched the wind sculptures in the garden spin around as we ate. We visited the bubbling pond and the vine-strewn pergola on our way out. Their menu is so full of amazing options! It was hard for us to make decisions here because we wanted to try it ALL! We were in a cross country road trip during our stop & was the best meal we had the whole trip. I had the bison burger and side salad with a house made vinaigrette. My partner had the daily quiche with an extra egg and sautéed greens. I am not usually a burger eater but can appreciate quality meat and locally sourced menus. It was so good! I don't think you could have gone wrong with anything on their menu. Admittedly, I was slightly difficult because I needed an outlet for my computer since we were traveling. We were boondocking and camping so we didn't have electric, or usually service, when we stopped. The staff was so accommodating and patient when I brought this up.
