The vegan Mac and the collard greens here are the best I've had of the vegan restaurants in the DMV area. Been coming here since I was a little girl (I'm 27 now) & I honestly don't know why I keep trying with them. I spend years in between my last visit hoping things will improve or using them as a last resort option for vegan food. I just had a baby and today I was really excited to just eat some food that I didn't have to cook. First of all they changed the Mac & cheese recipe.. It's absolutely horrible and I'm not a picky person AT ALL. It literally tastes like they baked their macaroni salad & dumped a whole bottle of smoked paprika and mustard. So disappointing. The veggie chicken patty was dry & unflavored. Thank god I got the burrito bowl for later cause that was really good but the rest of my meal was severely lacking. Returned last night to get some more cashew mac n cheese, because it was so good the first time around. Unfortunately, this time it was nothing like the last time I had it. No garlic kale in the fridge, so I had to ask for it, twice. This particular visit was a bit frustrating because there were only two people serving, despite the long line of patrons. The holdup was mainly due to a customer who hadn't been before and had questions about the menu and wanted to try a few items. It's unfortunate that as long as this place has been in business, there's no signage to indicate how to order and what, exactly, is being served. This makes for a chaotic experience. Each time I've visited I've asked, "What is this here?" or "And this is?" I mentioned in my earlier review that everything always looks old/dry when I visit (normally after work); however last night was the first time the food actually reflected it. I was so disappointed about the dry cashew mac (that I made a special trip for), that I lost the desire to ever visit again. $14.86 for the cashew mac and garlic kale. read more

I've frequented this restaurant over the years, moved away and come back and the quality has NOT changed. Healthy food, pleasant staff, great atmosphere. There are soy free options for those with soy allergies. Great food is not only flavorful but won't require medication. May 20 There was a woman with a great personality who greeted me and the person I was with very friendly. We are not vegans but wanted something good. Coming in not knowing what to expect, I'd say it's ok. Its "go down the line style" She explained everything and asked if we wanted to try it. I had the soy chicken but when I tasted it I thought it was ok, very string like and fatty tasting. I hated that. But I got it with cabbage and greens. My friend got the sweets and sour soy chicken with rice and sweet potatoes. He thought it was so so. The sweet potatoes were good to him and I liked the greens. Overall it's average. Not a place I would visit often, but I would visit again. The woman was very friendly and your able to watch television or just sit and chill. We also got a ginger cookie and granola with peanuts. We loved the cookies. I would go back for just those although the ginger cookie could have had a tad more ginger flavor you cannot really taste it but it still was very tasty. I tried one of there juices, an Apple and ginger. I like ginger, I make ginger tea on my on. I didn't like the juice. There was no ginger taste, just the tingling sensation ginger leaves behind but no real ginger flavor. This place is not bad, it's just average. As I said the woman was very friendly and helpful, but the food was not so great. I did notice there menu changes daily or somewhat so I'll have to give it a try on a different day to really see if there food was just having an off day. Smile! read more

As the lone vegan in my office, I do get made fun of quite a bit. However for my going away, I brought several colleagues here to partake in my dietary choices. The food here is excellent and the helpings are generous. I've eaten here twice and wasn't disappointed on both outings. Most of my colleagues went for the burrito bowl, however a few brave souls ventured to the hot buffet. While I don't think anyone will convert to vegan in their future, everyone enjoyed their food and pleasantly surprised with taste and texture of their meals. I'm a big fan of their dessert selection, delicious and succulent cakes and pies. The only complaint is their flow isn't the best. Multiple lines between the hot dishes, the burrito bar and the cash register can lead to confusion. Also the food trays aren't labeled and I'm asking what each dish is before choosing. Great spot for vegan soul food. They also have an amazing beverage selection. We enjoyed the chik'n wingettes - one maple curry, on barbecue. I love this place! There aren't too many vegan spots on this side of Prince George's County. The main thing I come in here for is their garlic kale. Oh my gosh I love it. The last time I went in to get some I also got an entree; jerk chicken, collard greens, and cashew macaroni and cheese. My only 2 gripes are I wish they had more protein options that didn't have any soy (soy raises estrogen levels). Though they did have 2 macaroni and cheese options, one made of cashews the other soy. My second gripe are the prices. My meal and a side of garlic kale was $19 and some change. Sheesh!! This is not one of those places that you can eat at everyday and still have money left over that's for sure. But I will say this, they do give you large portions. read more

I love the Mock Chicken Salad, Seaweed Salad, Garlic Kale Salad, Cornbread, and Carrot Cake. I have had numerous of the other dishes and PERSONALLY not big on imitation meat. The customer service is EXCELLENT and very welcoming. The prices are reasonable. But of late the portions of the entrees are smaller and smaller. And the presentation isn't as good. I Had "eggplant parm" and it was literally HALF of the entree side of the container. No exaggeration. Was it the server? How it was sliced in the chaffing dish? 4 bites? Come on ELife do better. The community has supported you, the containers have gotten smaller and now, you're not filling the main side? The strip mall is already under construction, don't start losing your customers. I woke up after a late night and decided I wanted something that tasted good, but was also good for my body. So I've been wanting to try everlasting life vegan soul food cafe. I got the soy Mac and cheese, collard greens and drummettes. While it was tasty, the taste was off, which is to be expected since I'm not use to non vegan options. The location is half and half carry out and a sit in dining option. They have a few options via their hot bar so you aren't stuck with one choice which is what I assumed based off the website. Perfect even for non-vegan. I must warn though I am not a vegan I enjoy vegetarian and vegan food. With that being said dishes that include meat or dairy products will taste slightly different to those not used to the change. I first love that it is is a black owned soul food restaurant. They have a daily rotating menu, sweet treats, and prepackaged drinks that are all healthy vegan and yummy. And the service is quick and friendly. They love newcomers and will take the time to explain the menu options. I usually go for a simple meal with an entree and two sides. They have options for hot bar and cold bar. The original Mac and cheese is absolutely phenomenal! The greens are perfectly seasoned and the yams weren't overly sweetened. I even tried their lasagna.
