I'm NOT vegan nor converting to. I'm a foodie that tries everything at least once. So I got the drummettes mixed flavors, they looked so cute and glazed when I saw them like real drumsticks. I purchased a meal the Mac and cheese is Really GOOD to be not so cheesy and like the original you get on holidays. The texture was very different for the drums but each one was sOoo full of flavor from the buffalo to the Maple curry I might have to every now and then purchase these!!! If you're looking for a replacement every now and then everlasting won't disappoint you no matter what you get the desserts are so decadent you wouldn't be able to tell it's vegan either!!.. I enjoyed my food and the experience was interesting but having those flavors really set the tone shall I ever want to convert to Veganism. Love this place! I always stop by here for lunch when I drop my dog at the groomer's which is nearby. I usually get whatever jackfruit "chicken" drumstick they have that day and two sides. The garlic kale salad is amazing if you're a lover of garlic like I am. Collards are never bitter and neither is the cabbage. You can't even tell most of the food is vegan. It's a little expensive. For an entree, 2 small sides, a bottled drink, and a dessert, it's runs about $20 to $25. That being said, I always have enough food for two meals so really it evens out to fairly reasonable cost overall. The staff is always friendly and helpful and it's always clean inside. read more

Ok so I finally made it to the Everlasting Life's Sunday Brunch that everyone (that I know is healthy) is talking about. Actually was first recommended to it by a typically non healthy eating, lover of all things meat friend. I was a little skeptical just because if she liked it so much, they have to be sneaking meat in there somehow right? Wrong! The location is out of the way, and for a Sunday brunch didn't start off very packed at all. There was a church right in the same shopping center that was just letting out as we pulled up, so I was a bit worried that it would be like an IHOP experience.....long wait. Not at all. We were seated fairly quickly only waiting a few minutes. Of course everyone there looked ultra earthy (LoL) for the black folk, natural hair (either puffs, twists or locs abound). I fit right in! LOL. The Sunday brunch was probably the best I have ever had! Usually since I'm not a meat eater, I have to substitute all kinds of things to piece together a good meal when I go out for brunch. This one was right up my alley, and darned as hard as I tried, I couldn't clear the plate. If nothing else, you have got to try to tackle their pancakes: they're huge! From the website: Our hearty breakfast includes delicious scrambled tofu flavored with peppers, onions, and zesty herbs and spices, tasty vegan "sausage", fresh organic steamed broccoli, organic corn grits, orange juice, and mouth watering pancakes made with whole wheat unbleached flour and soy milk (no eggs), served with 100% real Maple syrup. Does it sound like a lot? Well it certainly is! And it was so good. It felt good to get a glutunous meal that I could eat every morsel of if I had a bigger stomach. I've been here enough times to give the Yelpers what they want, so here it is...I came here from a recommendation from a family member...to be honest I only glimpsed other reviews and never really picked up on the fact that the place was vegan....when I looked at some of the pics I thought hey it looks like they have wings and Mac n cheese so what the heck....mid way through my order I realized something was a little off about my selection....but it didn't matter because before I could notice my food was gone. I literally could eat here everyday....everything taste sooooo fresh....customer service is always a plus because I never feel like I'm being rushed and they are always so welcoming to questions regarding the menu. I avoided this place for many years because it looks like a hole in the wall from the outside. However, as soon as you open the doors, MMM, everything smells and looks delicious. The best things on the menu are - 1. Lemon Cake with Blueberry Icing (there are actual real blueberries baked into the cake) 2. Mac and Cheese 3. Chicken Salad (i don't know HOW they make it taste exactly like chicken and egg when neither are in there!) 4. Mung Bean (Mom's favorite and she's pretty anti-Vegan) Personally, I always get my food to go or when it's warm out, I sit outside to eat because the inside dining area is kind of dim, smells a little funny (not stinky, but like shea butter and other natural products mixed together) and there's a t.v. that is always playing a documentary in another language. For the most part, everyone is laid back and friendly, but there's one employee that I cannot STAND. I don't know if she is mentally unstable or genuinely does not realize how unpleasant she comes across, but whenever I see her at the cash register or behind the counter, I have to mentally prepare myself. She gets very irritated if you ask what things are or are not ready (even if there's no one in line behind you). One time a man in front of me didn't have his belly (reward) card, so he started entering in his e-mail address on the screen by the register to access it. The nasty cashier said, "I HAVE A LINE! YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR CARD READY WHEN YOU COME UP YOU DON'T USE IT." The man said, "But I left it at home and I want my points." and the cashier rolled her eyes. I spoke up and said it was fine if the man wanted to enter it in, I didn't mind waiting and wasn't in a hurry. The nasty cashier shot me a dirty look and when it was my turn she said, "I was trying to help YOU out but it's not a rush? Yeah okay, fine." Luckily i haven't seen her that much lately, so hopefully she's fired or they put her on the lunch shift (I always come at dinner time) so I don't have to worry about her. The food is a little on the pricy side (1 serving of macaroni and 4 small thumbprint cookies cost me $12) but it's all organic and vegan, so what do you expect? lol They give you a lot of food which is a pro. The only con is you can't mix cold and hot food. So if you want to get one of their combos (1 entree, 2 sides) they won't let you do macaroni w/chicken salad and seaweed. So far, my first impressions are that this place is GREAT. (Actually, this is a second hand experience) I've been looking for an excuse to go vegan and now I may have it. I only tasted a bit of a friend's food and I couldn't believe it was all vegan. The tofu cheese cake is enough to make me go vegan and never look back. More on this place tomorrow, I'm going to sample more ASAP. Update! I finally made my way back to ELH. I got a cold-side lunch which is four options for about $8 and one of their drinks (apox $3 for a small and $5 for a large). At first it seemed rather expensive, but after I thought about it, I'm used to fast food prices. I don't mind paying for fresh, specialty food. Everything looked good. I had come a little late and all of the spaghetti casserole was gone. (I think that was a favorite and I wanted some!). The guy behind the counter was nice enough to give me a run down on everything and I mean everything! He also gave me samples on plenty of dishes. ELH offered "chicken salad", some type of spicy tofu, and "pepper steak" tofu, along with lots of tofu salads, veggie salads, and starches like couscous. There was no problem with me sampling any and all of those things. I ended up getting the "chicken salad" the macaroni salad with protein, beets (that were stringy with some type of sweet dressing, yum!), and seaweed. I also tried this green drink, which was very good, but got very sweet after I drank a lot of it. They also offer belly dancing classes. My grandmother took a class a while back, but just told me about it today. She enjoyed it and recommended it to me. Its a good work out, she says. I think they hold them in the space next door, where books, incense and other stuff is being sold. All and all, I like this place. Its a good place to go to try out vegan dining. I came after church, and I was hungry. Unfortunately, the line moved so slowly. I waited 20 minutes just to place my order. By the time I made it to the bar to order my food, nothing looked appealing. I've been here before, and I know this is NOT usually the case. I was about to leave, but I ended ordering barbecue tofu with a side of pinto beans/ rice and mac and "cheese". Nothing was stand-out, so I was upset about the fact the stayed in line for over 20 minutes for ok food that was room temperature. Alright. This review is based off of the capitol heights location. Here we go. I am not vegan nor vegetarian however, a friend heard great reviews about this place so we went. It's like a vegan soul-food spot When we got there we were sooooo confused. One side you see entrees one side was sides. You can have one entree and two sides. They do not have the menu up top some where you can read it nor do they have paper menus. They have a binder..yea a binder that has sun-sats menu on it and it's different dishes every day. So if you want a specific dish you have to memorize the menu and come on that day. Anyways I got the basic mac n cheese collards and mashed potatoes because I figured who messes up those 3 basic dishes. Plus my friend is lactose intolerant so I thought I'd try them because they're made with almond milk. LOW AND BEHOLD they messed up on the collards. Soooo over cooked. Nutrients all cooked out of it and improperly seasoned. The mac n cheese didn't look like mac and cheese but it was tasty. B+ for vegan mac n cheese. And the mash was alright just needed salt and pepper. AND my very small portion of food was like $15. Umm I want a refund you average out to a C- for you Everlasting. Oh and here is the kicker I WAS going to buy a drink until the mister said $6. Like what? They'll never see me again. AND the name of this spot is misleading "Restaurant" no this is a take-a-way or carry out with a caribbean vibe but no caribbean flavor. Our fam trekked down to Everlasting Life this month to check out the Sunday brunch. The idea of going to an all-vegan spot is appealing--no need to second-guess ingredients! I opted for the brunch plate which included 2 sausage patties (a little on the spicy side, but decent), tofu scramble, grits, and steamed broccoli. The scramble was okay texture-wise, but some seasoning in it was just a bit off for me. The grits were good though a bit watery toward the bottom of the bowl. The steamed broccoli was too overdone for my taste, but at least I had my greens! The Man opted for some sides from the hot and salad bars which we all tried. There are TONS of options for salads which is great--and there are lots and lots of healthy greens! You can sample up to 3 items, and I like that you can try before you buy. The garlicky kale salad was good, but not for the faint of heart! Chickadee and I thought the mac and cheese was okay--a bit on the heavy side. Chickadee and Squeaker tried the pancakes. Gotta say, the flavor was great, but I really wish there had been a whole grain option. I'd also like to see a more kid-friendly breakfast protein option such as a milder sausage or tempeh bacon. The staff was very helpful, friendly and accommodating. I'd love to come back, but I'd want to see a few more healthy options. read more

This restaurant has seriously degraded over the years. It really pains me to say this because Ive been ordering from them for the past 5 years especially because of their mission and it has come to a point where I can no longer patronize their business. Generally their menu items are tasty and well seasoned but rarely do I go in for take out and see good quality food in the past two years. The entrees often look burnt or overheated and the taste reflects that. There have been a few occasions when I've ordered the swedish meatballs, curry chicken, or etoufee that was dry and chewy. The Mac and cheese itself was the beginning signs of decline as it seemed like their recipe changed every visit: sometimes watery and plain, sometimes thick and rich. I just went in 30 minutes ago to try my luck and I couldn't stop staring at the fried cauliflower (?) that had some powdery substance on a cluster of them. Now, it's 10:20 am and the store just opened. Unless this is a moldy left over batch from some nights before, I can't make sense of the patch of hard and powdery cauliflowers. Its really disappointed because they are a local Black vegan restaurant and one of these only in PG. Used to be a quick eatery for wholesome food but no longer worth the declining quality. read more

The atmosphere was okay. I could see a lot of things a customer should not. The flow of the ordering room was awful, but that could just be the designer in me. In DC today. Decided to come up to Everlasting Life. Didn't realize there'ss an entire church community that runs the shopping center that it's in. That's kinda cool. Anyway, I had the BBQ tofu. I liked the flavor. Tofu is tricky because it can get soft as it sits in liquid, so an extra firm brick would probably be better. Good, nonetheless. The spinach is delicious. The mac and cheese is really good. It's close to the top of my list. The drummies are sooooo meaty! They were my favorite. I'm missing ambiance. Mood lighting. Okay so the food here is pretty good every time I have eaten from here but, they are not good with managing the online aspect of there business. I placed an order online so it would be ready for pickup when I got there. They had not even started making my order yet when I arrived how does that work? Like what is even the point of having an option to place and order if it's not going to be ready. I was informed when I walked in to pick up my order that over half of the items I ordered were out of stock and I would need to choose something else. I was confused and honestly upset I wasn't even given a heads up call because I had previously revived one during a different day when I placed an order online and a item I ordered was out of stock. So if these items are no longer available why was it not updated through the website. I placed my order for specific items I wanted not to have to choose something else. I would have went to a different place if I knew they were out of the main foods I buy from them. The only reason I didn't give a 1 star review is because the food is pretty good. read more

My husband and I are regulars here. We only wish we'd discovered this place years ago. The restaurant serves brunch (Sunday), lunch and dinner. The staff is fantastic, and the restaurant has a great vibe. Casual for sure. We usually do take out, and there is a seating area next door. The menu changes up everyday, but there are the usual staples: Mac n Cheese, collards, fish and other entrees, pre packaged goods, awesome desserts and smoothies. I feel like we discover something new every time we visit.They also serve generous portions. The food is satisfying and we can't wait to introduce people. I'm soooo disappointed in this establishment. I try to give this place my business because there aren't many vegan places in the area. It really needs to close its doors and clean from top to bottom because it is soooo dingy and dirty. I visited the store in 8/26 and it was dingy, there was one person working behind the counter and he was sooo slow. That wasn't the bad part. The food wasn't covered and there were flies in the sweet potatoes. Then, 2 workers showed up and started serving food. I informed the workers that there were flies in the food and they just started looking at each other. They attempted to cover the food but only covered a few dishes. But, they continued to serve the sweet potatoes. I went in the back, told the manager and he said that the food wasn't required to be covered. I just said wow and left. We came to this place on the recommendation of a friend while we were visiting DC and oh my goodness was this place incredible! Vegan southern comfort food at is most delicious! I loved EVERYTHING! I tried the fried salmon, warm kale greens, spicey chicken drumsticks, macaroni and cheese, cauliflower and steak. Everything was absolutely delicious, but oh my goodness were our eyes bigger than our stomachs! The portions are generous and we definitely had leftovers for the plane ride home. The staff was incredibly friendly and were patient with us as this was our first visit and we were totally overwhelmed by the choices. Plenty of parking as it's in a shopping complex. Thanks to Google, I was quite surprised to find vegan cuisine in this area. As I entered the establishment, I immediately searched for a menu as there were 4 people ahead of me and wanted to make a speedy lunch trip. I opted for the 1 entree & 1 side meal, selecting Mac n cheese & "lentils" as my side. I also picked up the spicy garlic kale salad and a mango smoothie, totaling $20. A properly labeled menu and/or a "we have pinto beans today, not lentils" would've been appreciated. Although I'm no vegan or vegetarian, the Mac n cheese was pretty good! Now, on to the point of disappointment: my "lentils" were actually pinto beans (sad face) Though palatable, my expectation wasn't met. The kale was fresh& crisp, and in no way short on the garlic. Thankfully the Mango smoothie was great tasting and help cut the overload of garlic. Nonetheless, I'd say give it a shot especially, if you're looking for an alternative to the ubiquitous fried meal. I absolutely love this place. Since transitioning to vegetarianism over a year ago this place has been a real God send. The food is great and I love the Black Consciousness lectures that are often done at this location. I really think this is a progressive business, and I hope to see more of them open up. You must give this place a try if you are transitioning your diet, and elevating your thinking. The only thing I think they should work on is the staff's friendliness.. There's one brother that is always friendly, but the younger staff really needs better customer service skills. read more

The food here is great! It's a nice spot to go after a long day at Six Flags. The only thing that's not quite as great is the desserts. They're not made here, but they do get sold. The cakes are a bit dry, and you have to microwave the cinnamon rolls or they're inedible. The hot bar is amazing, the staff is nice, and the cold bar is great as well. All the food that's actually made in house is delicious! read more

Whoa there! Easy on the salt!!!! The "legendary" mac n cheese was good and unusual. Worth trying. The curry vegetables were so salty I couldnt' finish my small side. Yeesh. Some very strong flavors here... some good, some not. I'll probably go again, but not very often. read more

The filets and cornbread were the only parts of the meal that I found enjoyable. The texture of the filets was spot on but everything was bland, though the house made bbq sauce saved the filets. Customer Service was Absolutely Horrible! Rude, inattentive and Visibly Eating where Guests can see? Unbelievable. I almost left immediately, but I was hungry and drove 10+miles, so I had every intention of tasting their dishes even if the Servers acted as if you were bothering them.. Limited tables, like 2-3, Pre-made desserts, so you pick up and go.. But Brunch, how does that work? Anyway collards were either canned or extremely overcooked, the chicken and gravy over brown rice was good, drumettes were simply ok still looking for the macaroni and cheese I ordered. I did taste the Mac n Cheese and it was worth buying, too bad the young lady gave me an additional serving of vegetables instead. The cakes, well they tasted pre-made as they were. $2.50 for a 16 Oz bottle of water?... That was my first and last visit... When we walked into the restaurant, my boyfriend said "this might be it". The food smells amazing , and you know it's a good sign when even meat eaters are excited to eat . We both got the jerk chicken , I chose chick peas and collard greens, he chose the chick peas and broccoli . First, let me say the portion sizes are really good, neither of us could finish the meal. The staff was attentive and didn't mind answering questions . The food was delicious . The "chicken" was marinated in jerk spices , but even though it tasted a little more bbq than jerk it was still sweet and spicy. The collard greens were savory and salty so they complimented each other well . If I had any critiques it would be that there's not really space to eat, just two tables . The space is split half as a vendor venue and half did food, there's a lot of good energy and it wasn't too crowded but I wouldn't recommend it as a date night restaurant, but good take out. read more

My husband and I are changing our eating habits and someone had told my husband about this place. The reviews for this restaurant on yelp were really good and it definitely lived up to its reviews. The employees were super helpful. The young man at the counter was beyond helpful. We told him that this was all new to us and he let us sample things and he walked us through, what was what. I decided to get the curry "chicken", soy mac and "cheese" and collard greens. My husband got the "chicken" drumsticks, soy mac and "cheese"and cabbage. We got the food to go but I noticed they had a nice sit down area and the young man told us we could sit there and eat. Everything was absolutely delicious.
