My friend found this place as we were looking for "in the middle" places for a group of friends of mine. We're spread out all over the Chicagoland area and needed a new place to try. Elio's is fairly easy to find. It's right off Lake St at the end of of a mini-strip mall area. There's a decent amount of parking. The place is kind of small, but it actually works out for them as they were busy, but never with really people waiting to be seating so we didn't quite feel rushed. The staff was nice and attentive. The service was quick (it doesn't take too much time to make any of the things on their menu which was actually perfect). They didn't have just a small menu either; it had a decent amount of options and there were two sides to a rather large menu. It was a variety in the types of things they offered and not just a mere variety of different kinds of things. The food: Bella Sicilia Platter - this was fantastic and so Italian. It wasn't your usual "appetizer sampler" but just a bunch of different anitpastis. It came with: caponata (an eggplant thing), seafood salad (basically salmon), roasted zucchini, eggplant & red peppers - delicious, light and a great starter Salumi Mix - cured Italian meats and cheese served with amazing bread (you'll want to one up on the bread - it's that good) Leggera - (artichoke hearts, roasted red pepper, sun-dried tomato, mozzarella) a very good pie, nice and light, the artichoke hearts were delicious Uovu - (Speck prosciutto, egg, mozzarella, Parmigiano flakes) actually quite delicious. Really enjoyed it and it's different. Though would be better if the egg was more "sprinkled" over the pie versus just in the middle - thought it was a good visual. Margherita - (Fresh plum tomato, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, EVOO) the classic pie and also my favorite. They definitely got this right. BBQ Chicken - (Fresh plum tomato, BBQ chicken, mozzarella) this was good, but not stand out. Not sure it worked for this kind of crust, but it was good as well. I imagine all of their food is good here and you really won't go wrong with anything you order. TLDR: cute little spot. totally worth checking out. quick service and good food. won't break the bank. read more

FYI it didn't close, just moved across the street by Caputo's Tried out the new location, wasn't a huge fan. Pizza just didn't taste the same to me, seems like they need to get used to their new ovens. Food took longer than usual yet didn't taste as great as I'm used to Also not a big fan of the layout- it's bigger and a few more tables, but they're pretty much all communal tables, more of the same as the old place. You walk in and there's no host stand or register, you just stand there in the middle as a waitress tells us 'sit where you want'. I have been eating at Elio's for over five years, and never reviewed it, Why? Because I am selfish. This joint is top-notch, with the only downside being that it is ALWAYS crowded. Thus, I thought in my best interest, lay-low... It is a very small establishment, with 8 tables and a long but small bar area to watch food prep, and jostle huge plates of food. There are a few outside tables, too. THE GREAT = wood-fired pizza that cannot be beat. Not burned, but crispy. Numerous choices of white and red pizzas. FRESH imported burrata, and GINORMOUS salads. Domestic beer and Peroni, and moderately priced red and white wines. (My go-to's are the Caesar salad with chicken, the burrata appetizer which is a meal, and the Rucolina white pizza. For my sweet-toothed friends and family members, the Nutella pizza for dessert.) EVERYTHING is mega fresh, and prepared right in front of the bar area. AND...all of the staff are kind, quick and knowledgable. Your drink is never empty, you are given fresh plates between courses, and they box up your extra food, well, mine, because I always order 2 -3 courses and can't finish! This place is a hidden gem in Addison. It's a really tiny spot, so I suggest take out - or getting there early to be seated. The pizza is always fantastic & so is the staff. I always ordered a basic pepperoni, and it's so fabulous I never want to try anything else. My husband swears by the BBQ chicken pizza. My sisters also get the Italian beef or black olive. Their salads are massive, we always share a Caesar. Honestly there's nothing on the menu that doesn't look incredible. Everything is so fresh, we totally love this place! Just ate here last night. My parents were visiting from out of state and we wanted to take them to a pizza place. We wanted to try somewhere new and found this place and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately when we got there (on a Friday night) we were told it would be a 40-60 minute wait. They had sitting outside so we decided to just eat outside instead. Our waitress, Maria was literally the best server I've ever had in my life. She was so friendly and attentive. Honestly the food could have been crappy it it would still have been a great experience just because of her! However....the food was also as amazing as Maria! The pizza was out of this world delicious. The crust was flavorful without being over powering with the perfect crunch. The cheese was perfect...a lot of cheese I've tasted are plasticy...this cheese was creamy and delicious! The Bruschetta was just perfect, I loved the balsamic they used on it. Inside is a bit small but they said they have plans on opening another one that's bigger with more seating. We also had the tiramisu which is homemade every morning and it was also delicious, just the perfect taste not too sweet. We will definitely be going back again and again. read more

Okay, its now been a few days since I have eaten there for the first time, and I have to admit I can't stop thinking about the food. Yes, the pizza is that good, or should I say great. I can easily say this place easily jumps into my top 5 favorite pizza places in the Chicago land area. Jumping into my top 5 is no easy feat, considering how much I love pizza and how tough the competition is. Upon arrival I was not expecting much, considering its in a strip mall and the restaurant is fairly small, like many other pizzerias. But looks can at times be totally deceiving, as was the case in this instance. First arrived the pecan salad which was large enough to amply feed the six in our party. The salad was served with delicious toasted bread on top of the salad. Next arrived the 3 pizzas we ordered and a panzerotti. In all honesty, the simplicity of the great ingredient combinations was Neapolitan style pizza at its best. Also, I can't leave out mention of the delicious bubbly and slightly charred crust. We enjoyed the Rustica with speck (smoked) prociutto and smoked mozzarella, the Crudo with prociutto di parma and fresh mozzarella, and the Lipari with anchovies. All three were absolutely delicious. We also had the Panzerotti with the addition of sausage which was, once again, very, very good. As a result of the food being soo good, it can't stop thinking about it. Unfortunately for me, I don't live anywhere near this location! But one thing I can guarantee you, is if I'm out in this area I will definitely stop by again and again. Also, I cannot write a review without mentioning the very hospitable owner/chef/host Elio Barlotta who manages to make the rounds at all of the tables to make sure everyone is well taken care of. First of...when we searched for Deep Dish Pizza in Chicago...this place comes up. However...they DO NOT serve deep dish. This is Neoplitan pizza...the flat kind. Stick with the pizza! It is amazing, and I will continue coming back for that. Service always needs work. Last weekend, they were very busy, and two people thought the other one had our table. I try to chalk it up to an Italian timeline. It looked like they had a lot of carry out to the hookah place next door. One time a couple who worked there was fighting behind the bar...awkward. I wish the Nutella crêpe was worth it; it seemed like it was made beforehand and was covered in chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Calzone also wasn't at the same standard as the pizza. Following a trip to Naples, Italy last year where we had the best pizza we've ever had, we have since craved authentic wood fired pizzas. Tried a few places and were generally disappointed, so we essentially gave up. Saw Yelp postings for Elio and decided to try it out last night. The place was small and all tables were full so we had the option to wait or sit at the bar. We chose the bar and would probably do it again. We could watch the pizza making process and the heat from the oven was a bonus on a cold night. Maybe in the summer we'd wait for a table. I had the Boscaiola; wife had the Funghi. We both agreed this was about as close to what we had in Naples as possible and it was great. The service was fantastic. Waitresses were incredibly attentive and made us very welcome. One of the worst pizzas Ive ever had. Im a 2nd generation Italian and I LIVE Italian food! Ive to over a hundred Italian restaurants all over our nation. East coast. West coast. Probably 40 in the Chicagoland area. Ive been to Elio 3 times. Either their pizza was very greasy, very salty or just devoid of taste. The last time I was there was in their new location which was FAR better than the last. I ordered a pizza and it barely had any cheese and the basil on top was all on one location PLUS it was burnt. It was devoid of flavor and was basically a huge piece of dough that was baked in a wood fired oven. I asked for something else and it was no problem for them thankfully. I got a panini. It was okay. Flavors muted. After 3 tries Im done. Its a shame because I like the ambiance. But the food doesnt come close to their beautiful ovens. Other folks love this place. I hope they do well but as for me their food is just not good. It has nothing to with price or the freshness of ingredients. Its just very boring and tasteless and poorly executed. read more
