I had trouble getting in contact with the bakery by phone when trying to make a cake purchase. I was able to get in contact eventually but by that time their cakes were sold out. The store size is as expected of a small bakery. I think due to its cake output and the demand i would recommend calling earlier than later to reserve a cake, but also hope that they pick up the phone. The guava cake did not have very much guava taste. I'm used to the Zippy kind of guava cake and was hoping to experience something similar. The guava cake at this bakery may be a Guam influenced type so keep your expectations in check. read more

From all the pictures you think this was a really busy, well stocked bakery. But maybe I came on an off day. I got there maybe around opening time and it was very sparse pickings. It just seems like the cupcakes in the display case were from the previous day. Some still had holiday decor on them. I guess still good until it changes colors?? I didn't see any empanadas and I think maybe they were still baking things. I got the guava, the ube, the pistachio and the pandan cupcakes. All flavors I love, but sadly didn't taste in any of the cupcakes. All the flavors were like whispers of the their flavoring. Even teh cupcake itself wasn't anything to call home about. We came here with friends to try their Empanadas. We ordered six to go and didn't eat them until we got home about an hour in a half away. Of course we used our air fryer to warm them up. They were crispy on the outside with a mild/spicy filling. The ratio of filling was just right and depending on your appetite one should be good enough to keep you satisfied. Several years ago, prior to C0v!d, Kristina F recommended Elite Bakery when I visited the Bay Area. I could never come because I have been landing at San Jose Airport and going to see families in South Bay. But last weekend, I purposely landed in Oakland and got a chance to visit Union City and Elite Bakery. Not knowing the staff shortage and food has to be preordered by phone as most of food required 15-20 minutes to cook. I ordered some Filipino breads to take home and cupcakes for the moment while driving back to my hotel room. Everything was so delicious. I just could not decide if I like the guava flavor or not. A lot of my friends loved it, but I think it is an acquired taste. Got tired of ordering from 85c or ParisB etc for birthday cake, so wanted to try something different and after reading yelp reviews around the area, I chose to give Elite a try and it was a great decision. The cake layers were moist and flavorful. The yellow cake layers were soft and consistent throughout the cake, it doesn't fall apart either which was well made. Greeted immediately by a nice guy. We were able to place an order for Guamanian empanadas, chicken kelaguen (cold), red rice (hot), and half dozen of Guamanian empanadas. There is a 15-30 min wait for the empanadas. The chicken kelaguen was good to satisfy my craving and it was a generous amount that lasted a few days. The empanadas were so good and I do wish I had gotten more but hubby and I enjoyed them very much. Back in December, I got a box of guava cupcakes and pandan cupcakes for my get together with my bestie. Staff there were very nice and friendly. They gave me free lightbulb ring toppers on my cupcakes, which was very cute. It was first time trying this place, and I love it. This is one of my favorite places for a cake. I just cannot seem to never get enough of their Ube/Taro Cake. Grace and the whole staff is always super awesome. They never get my orders incorrect especially considering I order here every year for my birthday cake if Ube / Taro. Their cakes is phenomenal. If you love chiffon and light fluffy then this is the place to go because you never feel heavy even after eating 1 piece of cake. I was advised when I reached out by email that standard cakes need to be ordered at least 4 days in advanced and paid upfront. I ended up paying over the phone. I was a little hesitant as there weren't any red velvet cake reviews on here (if any). Once I took my bite, all of my doubts disappeared because it was delicious! The cake is rich and a bit on the heavier side so this cake can go a long way with a small slice. It was frosted with whipped cream making it a nice balance to the richness on the inside. What a delicious cake! Service was alright, I arrived around 9:45 am on a Sunday and no one was there to greet me. They do have a bell for you to ring, but it would have been nice to be greeted by a friendly face. It shows that even the people at the front put in work in the back. Saw that ube cake is one of this bakery's specialties and pre-ordered one via phone (bakery needs at least a few days heads up for regular cake orders). The ube cake here is one of the softest cakes I've had.....It's like eating a cloud lol. Super soft spongy chiffon cake layers that aren't dry-tasting at all. The whipped cream covering the layers is very delicate yet still holds its shape even hours of the cake being left at room temperature. Light ube flavor throughout the cake. Not too sweet at all. I read many good reviews on the guava cake so I had to try it for my dad's birthday. I called 2 days prior to place my order and it was very easy and quick. The 8" cake can feed 10 people and was $35. You get a receipt after paying over the phone but I never got mines. You can call them and have them resend it to you. Day of pickup was smooth. Plenty of parking as it's within a little plaza. They let you check the cake before sealing up the box. The cake wasn't too sweet and you can taste a little bit of guava flavor. Majority of my family did say the guava flavor wasn't that strong and it would've been better if it was a little bit sweeter. I came for their guava cake but apparently that item needs to be pre-ordered. I wish this bakery was closer to home. They have so many authentic Guamanian dishes including kelaguen, red rice, and empanadas. Since they didn't have a small guava cake for purchase, I opted for their cupcakes instead. Their guava cupcakes were delicious. Actually all the cupcakes I tried from this bakery, I enjoyed immensely. Their cupcakes are not sickening sweet like Sprinkles or Kara's. They're lighter but the flavors still come through. I can definitely taste the guava, pistachio, and taro, which were the 3 flavors I tried. Because their cupcakes are lighter than some of the other famous cupcake competitors, I was able to try more flavors. Plus the cupcakes here didn't make me feel sluggish or bloated after eating them. I will have to pre-order a guava cake from them one day. Looking forward to getting one soon since I have some family members with upcoming birthdays.
