TLDR: THEY CAUSED $14K OF DAMAGE TO OUR THINGS AND ARE OFFERING 60 CENTS/POUND, OWNER HAS BEEN UNREASONABLE AND TRIED TO BLAME US AND ACCUSE US OF LYING I hired Elite Moving and Storage for an interstate move from Chicago to Philadelphia, paid $6,025, and experienced carelessness far beyond any reasonable expectation for an interstate move. I sustained ~$14,000 in damage, a figure I can substantiate because my Chicago home was photographed for its real estate listing shortly before the move, independently documenting my items' condition beforehand. Nearly everything the crew packed themselves arrived damaged or destroyed. "Fragile" boxes were crushed. Items were wrapped only halfway, if at all. Separate pieces were wrapped together, rubbing and scraping against each other in transit -- this left large gashes across the steel rails of a $3k bookshelf that was itself only half-wrapped. A steel trash can came back with a deep gash that looks like it fought a bear or a semi truck. A $300 steel Schoolhouse table (no longer made) wasn't wrapped at all -- powder coating stripped, a leg broken. Both bed frames had tape applied directly to the steel, one blanket thrown over them, and all hardware for both beds dumped into a single container, so we have no idea which screws belong to which bed. A vintage solid wood Borge Mogensen dresser was not wrapped properly and now has so much damage that it would not be considered in the same original condition after repairs, and will no longer hold the same value it once did. Replacement for this is $9k. We gave the crew a plastic bag specifically to wrap our $8,000 couch before blanket-wrapping. They never used it. The couch, and much else, came back coated in unidentified dust after 6 weeks in Elite's storage -- heavy-duty bins we packed were cracked open because heavier bins weren't stacked below lighter ones. A Samsung Frame TV arrived resealed with different tape than we used, repacked upside down, missing its power cord -- evidence the box was opened and hastily repacked after we sealed it. I was never verbally told a subcontracted crew, not Elite's own team, would handle delivery. Delivery was first attempted on July 4th, then proceeded on a day I'd warned them would rain, despite offering two other non rain days as options I was free, exposing our things to the elements. The subcontracted crew damaged our new home's walls and floors despite being told it was freshly painted. I was repeatedly told Full Value Protection -- which FEDERAL LAW requires interstate movers to offer -- was NOT available through this company, leaving me with their $0.60/lb limit. I only learned this was required by law afterward, via legal counsel and my own research. During Chicago pickup, the crew chief repeatedly prayed aloud that "our things get there safely and we give the crew a good tip" -- pairing my belongings' safety with a tip request in a way that felt uncomfortable and pressuring in my own home. I contacted the owner directly with a detailed damage list, itemized replacement-value spreadsheet, and explicit refusal of the $0.60/lb offer. Instead of a personal response, I received an email from their claims insurer reiterating that coverage and stating a claim could take up to 90 DAYS. No acknowledgment, no compassion. I'm filing complaints with the Illinois Commerce Commission, FMCSA (including their FVP violation under 49 CFR § 375.401), the BBB, the Illinois Attorney General, and the FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection. I genuinely do not understand how Elite Movers is still in business. Maria, the sales agent, was warm, reassuring, and incredibly responsive right up until the contract was signed. I was quoted approximately $5,900 for my move -- a number we discussed multiple times. Everything sounded professional, transparent, and organized. Then moving day arrived and suddenly the price magically ballooned to nearly $9,800. Not because I added inventory. Not because of stairs. Not because of extra services. Just because apparently reality bends once your belongings are already on the truck. It felt less like a moving company and more like a hostage negotiation with my furniture as collateral. When I tried to push back, the entire tone changed. The professionalism disappeared instantly and I was left feeling cornered, stressed, and completely manipulated. Ira, the owner, should seriously reevaluate how this company operates because this experience was beyond unacceptable. A quote should not be a fictional teaser rate designed to get someone emotionally and logistically committed before springing a nearly DOUBLE price increase on them. Unlike the other 6 moving companies I called, Elite did not overcharge me extra for the safe being moved and was literally half the price of the majority of companies I called. We wanted to remodel our 1963 basement. That meant everything had to be removed and put in storage! Elite was patience with us as we did most of the packing and when the day came for everything to be taken to storage they arrive on time and ready to take everything. The basement remodeling took 6 months to do because of it was a down to the studs remodeling and moving a wall. Then all new walls, ceiling, floors & electrical. Then to add to the fun a delay with an unexpected sewer line repair for two weeks in the middle! The moving fees were reasonable and the so was the extra charges for the monthly storage fees. When the basement was completed, the return of our stuff from storage was excellent. I would hire them again if I needed a moving service! read more

You are met with professionalism, courtesy and care from the office staff who book you to the moving team on the day of your move. You always deal with the same people at the office and communication is clear and straightforward. There were no surprises in our final bill; in fact, it came out about $150 under the original estimate. The moving team know one another and are Elite employees. They hustled and treated our belongings with care and respect. We had one piece of furniture that required special wrapping and handling; they moved it carefully and it arrived in perfect shape. The team were real pros. I can't say how happy we have been now twice with Elite. Very very very fair price. I saved $ vs driving a uhaul & hiring movers on each end. 2. Accurate quotes! If they add something (anything) they clear it with you first and you can approve or deny the addition (mine was +$40 for extra packing materials for a few items I should have boxed but didn't) 3. They handle your contract, the movers the drivers the trucks everything. One person to cal for any updates or problems (there weren't any) 4. Nothing broke! 5. Clear communication! These guys are horrible. I moved from Chicago to Dallas last year. They destroyed my restoration hardware bed which is missing a large chunk out of the side, they did not use gloves and touched my white linen RH chairs, and destroyed them. They were not able to be cleaned. And on top of all of that, I was missing a box of brand new small appliances including a brand new blender and crock pot. I would never never use them again! I would never let a friend or someone I cared about use Elite Movers. I thought I was paying a premium for higher quality service, but this was the worst moving experience of my life (and I've moved ~5 times in the last 10 years). Here are the specific problems we had: - Elite booked movers for the wrong date (they entered the wrong month in the service request), and on the morning of our move no one showed up which is how we found out - They were able to get a group of movers to come late that day, but there were not enough so the move took longer than planned. Because we had flights to our new home that evening we had to beg a friend to stay behind until the movers finished - Movers left our dinner plates in the cupboard despite paying for a full pack. They came back to pick them up, but the rest of my move was delayed so they could pick up the plates - Movers left our outdoor planters (that were in the inventory) and made no effort to pick them up or compensate us for the lost items - Movers damaged the floors in both the old and new locations (ripped up linoleum, scratched a wood floor) - Movers damaged two rugs and broke the handles off a designer purse Finally: Absolutely no adjustments, compensation, or anything was given to account for the mistakes, forgotten items, additional time, or damage. TLDR: Learn from my mistake, don't use Elite Moving & Storage. Moving is already stressful enough and using them most definitely added to that stress. I never make Yelp reviews but my experience with Elite Moving & Storage was so awful I felt an obligation to spread the word so other people don't make my same mistake by using them. They picked up my stuff in March 27th, which was not delivered until April 21st, or 25 days later. While this was technically only two days late (I found out during this process Elite uses Business Days for their 2-14 day delivery window which starts only after you claim arrival), to me, it's unacceptable to wait over four weeks for your stuff to arrive and I would have never used Elite had I know that It would take this long. By coincidence, I had a coworker make the same exact move (location and number of bedrooms) as me and he received his stuff for a fraction of the price and time. His stuff was delivered on April 2, or six days after pick up. The variance in price was driven by Elite pricing being based on square footage (the major moving companies price based on weight, a much more objective measurement). While I am unsure why It took Elite an extra 19 days to deliver my stuff, I do know that they consolidate moves for long distance deliveries, and because of that, my stuff sat in a warehouse in Lincolnwood (a suburb of Chicago) for 18 days. Beyond taking way longer than expected, when I finally got my stuff the TV stand was broken and multiple boxes were damaged. See pictures for reference. I'm in the process of making claims and unsurprisingly it's an overly tedious process and candidly the potential payout (from other reviews looks like people were getting $30 for a broken TV) is completely unworth the headache of filling out the various forms and documents. The only positive of this company was the movers themselves, they were amazing! That said Elite Moving & Storage has major operational issues and it is run extremely inefficiently. Everyone besides the actual movers themselves (e.g. moving consultants, dispatch team, etc.) lack a sense of accountability and motivation. read more

The photos can speak for themselves but this entire experience was an awful one. From the movers showing up drunk and/or heavy alcohol on their breath. Next, they refused to take with them our glass top to our dining table as they fear it might break (isn't that what movers are for.., to move things that we, ourselves can't) and the icing on the cake is pictured. When they offered us $15 after damaging our large, like new flat screen TV. This doesn't even show the other 5 items that were broken after the move, once we started to unpack. Elite Moving & Storage was fantastic and I particularly have to thank Donna, who was so helpful in answering all of our questions! Everything was scheduled perfectly ahead of time and the movers showed up when we were told they would be, and loaded all of our items carefully which I appreciated since we had several pieces that I was nervous about making the long move (they came through just fine). I had contacted a couple different companies before the move and Elite's prices were really reasonable, especially for the distance that we were moving. Elite gave us a quote beforehand so we knew exactly what to expect, and I actually got charged a little less than the quote which was great. The crew members that helped with my move was professional and courteous, and everything was safely moved and put where I asked in our new place. We recently moved from Highland Park to Northbrook. After calling several companies, Elite's quote was significantly less expensive. I was cautious ("you get what you pay for") but was beyond impressed with the service we received. My first interaction with customer service was a very positive one. The representative who scheduled our move was professional yet also warm and friendly. They were flexible with dates and time and we received our first choice for our moving date. They had an available crew the day before our move and called to see if we wanted to move it up... I just wasn't quite ready! They charge hourly and the woman on the phone explained the estimate was a guideline but we would be charged more or less depending on how long it took. In our case, they accurately estimated the time it would take a 4 man crew so our actual price matched the estimated price. The day of the move the crew arrived right on time. We did a quick walk through of the house so I could show what we were and were not taken and then I got out of the way! The movers were super efficient. They carefully wrapped all of our furniture and packed up large mirrors and TVs so they wouldn't be damaged. We had some large pieces and they exercised extreme care, especially with two large pieces of antique furniture. Once in the new house, they carefully put everything where it belonged. There was no damage to any of the furniture or the floors and walls of old or new house. They were friendly, efficient and highly professional, plus they had a good fair price. This is the best moving experience I have ever had. Beginning with the estimate process; I was given quality advice and attention to my circumstances. We had to move out due to water damage and the remediation of building issues. My move date had to be changed three times due to building issues... No problem said Frances at Elite. Not only was the Elite team going to move all my belongings. but they were going to be stored until such time as I can be move back in after the renovation.. The final part of the move back has yet to be scheduled. I did get three estimates for this project. Elite was not the cheapest; nor were they the most expensive. What this company did that separated them from the others was that they listened to my needs and what results I expected. Some of those expectations was to address any last minute requests I might have. They handled those last minute items without issue. The team arrived on time, surveyed the amount of boxes, TVs, furniture and art work to be boxed; then performed in a very time efficient manner. We hired Elite Moving for a move from Chicago to Denver. Throughout the sales process, we were consistently told they own their fleet and employees. Their website also very clearly builds this impression. This was not the case. The delivery crew who arrived at our home told us a very different story. Further, they used the same inventory form we provided to their competitors. Their price came in low as they underestimated cubic feet. Their price ended up being higher than the other bids. Further, we ended up having to leave behind items. To make things worse, they damaged a leather sofa and dresser as they did not wrap them as promised. We are still awaiting a response from them regarding how they will make this right. Strongly recommend avoiding them. Also, be advised they are very likely a broker, not a moving company. read more

I used this company to move from Chicago, Illinois to the Bay Area in California. They were three weeks late with my goods, refused to deliver until I paid 29% more than the estimated price. Several items were damaged. I have posted before and received a call demanding I take the post down that I had the wrong moving company. Not true. I got another call requesting to take the post down and they would work with me and reimburse me. Not true. Moving is stressful enough. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else. First, I was in communication with Nick at STI Moving & Storage throughout the entire process. However, in the end, it was Elite Moving & Storage that came and destroyed my items. I was convinced that my 2nd experience using this company (STI) would be fine, since I moved from Chicago to Knoxville. Without hesitation, I contracted them to move me back to Chicago. The experience I received with Elite was truly a horror story. 1. They were 1 hour late within the timeframe they had given me to pick up my items. I worked from home, and they were still moving my stuff 1-1.5 hours after the designated window. I had to be on a client call during this time, so needless to say, that was very inconvenient. 2. The people that showed up to move my stuff seemed nice, but acted like they were answering a Craigslist ad. They did not look or act professional, as they did not handle items that were marked "fragile" with upmost care, and just grabbed items without a proper label/sticker. 3. I had a gut feeling that my larger furniture items weren't wrapped properly, especially since the mover just took my standing lamp as is, and said he'd, "wrap this up later when I have a box for it". My intuition was correct - they destroyed my TV Stand. It's not usable in any sense since 1 backleg is broken, and the other is cracked. 4. Beware of this company's "liability": they do not cover pressed wood (basically all wooden furniture), so my destroyed TV stand is just a waste of space. To top it all off, they lost some screws for my bar stand, so I can't put too much on there without it losing balance. 5. We're all human, and people make mistakes - however, the unprofessionalism that I received with this company makes me question why they are still in business. You would think that Customer Service would have proper training, but Ellie from Elite was unprofessional and as helpful as a doorknob. She said I needed to file a claim without further instructions, but said she "sent an email". The manager called me and made me question my experience and why I was concerned- the customer is always right, right? Not in this situation. I have now used Elite for 2 moves now -- and both experiences were extremely positive. Transparency: they quoted accurately and have a very transparent costing (note: if you are completely packed up and ready when they arrive, you will SAVE $). Both times they charged me less than their original quote. Crew: Alejandro was the crew lead for both my moves. Thorough, considerate and hard working. A very nice man and his crew was equally professional. I met them at the near-by move in site and they quickly and accurately placed and assembled all the furniture. Quality: everything was wrapped well - eve my crappy items! Ha. All the boxes were handled well (but if you pack then you should wrap and package obviously). Bottom line: moving is stressful and daunting. If you're prepared then these guys will make it even better. If you're not they'll handle your shortfalls -- but you will have to pay for them too (duh). Some of the negative complaints I read were nonsense: the truck broke down? They didn't communicate in English well (jerk). We moved with them before and the movers were very friendly, so we wish we could recommend them, but the whole process with them this time has been a nightmare. We received several different estimates from several different people. Each time the details were inaccurate and the staff was extremely unhelpful and impolite while answering questions.
