    Poor Man's Lobster (baked haddock)
    Vadim B.

Nice place but the food mostly disappointed:( Our family of 6 stopped by Elk & Hound for dinner on July 1, 2022. The visit started great, we liked the place and the decor and the view. Our waitress was very friendly and recommended entrees from their Fri Fish Fry night menu. Appetizers were great and delicious and set high expectations for the entrees. However, the recommended entrees were mostly disappointing :( The only good one was Crab Topped Haddock. Poor Man's Lobster (backed haddock) had some specific not too good taste. And it was specifically recommended to us as "no fishy taste". Unfortunately, we ordered two of these. Grilled Whitefish would be good if not over salted and hence having its taste dulled. Hungarian mushroom soup was pretty tasteless and felt like from a can rather than fresh mushroom soup. Perhaps we would be better off ordering some pizza or steak but we got from Fri Fish Fry menu wasn't good except Crab Topped Haddock. Appetizers: Elk & Hound Combo - excellent Hungarian mushroom soup - skip Mains: Crab Topped Haddock - great Poor Man's Lobster - avoid Grilled whitefish - would be very good if not ruined by too much salt. Drinks: Bloody Mary - great And at the end we find a drink that we never ordered on our check. It was a few $ and I just paid it so not wait for new check as we were all tired by that time. But it left unpleasant feeling. So, we have a quite mixed feeling about this restaurant. If I were in the area I would give it another try ordering different dishes but can't really recommend it.

Lovely dinner overlooking the golf course. Felt "old school" as we received a complimentary appetizer teaser, enjoyed the salad/soup bar combo and dinner. I had the "crab"stuffed whitefish, which was perfection. Hubs had the wings and a Caesar salad, they were fine. I would recommend

We chose Elk & Hound off of yelp because of old menu photos. The other place we wanted to eat was at capacity until close & they said they were very busy but could accommodate us. It is an old house looking building (cool to me) on a golf course. There were a handful of people eating and plenty of open tables but they were short staffed. The menu was not really family friendly. They don't have much for a kids menu, although my kid loved their maple aioli with her chicken strips. I got the burger and was very underwhelmed. The fries were seasoned and pretty good. The things that stuck out to us the most were that our sodas came after our appetizer and that many of the staff literally ran to get where they were going. It was alarming but seemed normal to others. It was decorated for the Fourth of July with kitschy decor but the building itself has really interesting features.

The food is fantastic! Our party had a slight wait at the door for a table to open up but we didn't mind at all. We come here often and have never had a complaint. The service is friendly and they are always willing to accommodate us. We love the soup and salad bar, it's always fresh and we find new and different items each time we have it. The building is beautiful and well maintained for its age There are photos in the entrance area of when the building was being constructed. Definitely worth a visit! Took a while for the concierge to have eye contact and ask me to seat myself.Someone needs to train her. Ordered the Bourbon prime steak which had Cajun seasoning. It was really good. The salad was wilted.waitress was delightful.

Elk and Hound as a restaurant isn't open at all. The golf course looks like it's in great shape though.

Our server, Leah, was very pleasant and met our every need. I'm extremely picky about tartar sauce and she brought me out plenty to try and then when I loved it, more to enjoy with their excellent fries. I thought it was the best I've ever had in a restaurant. We all enjoyed our meal and my daughter loved her Fettuccine Alfredo especially. My walleye sandwich was incredible, too, especially since that tartar sauce was so phenomenal. One thing that really caught my eye was how hard the hostess was working. I don't think I've ever seen someone of her generation with such an amazing work ethic. It was kind of fun to watch her do her thing. If I had a company of my own locally, I would definitely be working to hire her. I didn't get her name, a d she looked awfully young to own the place. She acted as if she did, however. Amazing!

A great Wisconsin staple. Husband and kid both got the fried cod. I got the broiled (so happy for that option as I love fish just can't do the breading). Everything was hot and delicious. Baked potatoes were delish and huge !! The bar has a great selection of tap beer and I also had a great cranberry vodka (from northwater distillery) that had a little spice to it with diet sprite (thanks for having diet!!)

I was with my girlfriend & her family for a weekend getaway. Being from the Milwaukee area, we…read morewanted a Fish Fry on a Friday night dinner. This place was highly recommended so we went. Entering, the place is large & can easily accommodate groups of 6 to 8 people bc even for a Friday with it being busy there are more seats than you'd expect. I got the Cajun Cod with Sweet Potato fries. I didn't want beer battered so it was great to find a place that offers grilled, Cajun grilled, or Beer Battered for all fish fry's. The pieces were quality good size for a grilled cod, 3 quality sizes. Plus comes with good portion of side sweet potato fries for $1 extra. My girlfriend got the Fried Perch which was two massive pieces. Most of the table got a side salad instead of another side. Food was probably a 4 to 4.5 star. Not jaw dropping but not just basic at all. Negatives: Need a drink menu. I am not going to order a beer if you aren't going to give me what is offered. Simple as that. They brought a small pitcher of water (no more than 1.5L) for a table of 6. Water was room temperature & no ice at all. Waitress did write down one of our orders down incorrectly as cod instead of crab cake. His crab cakes didn't show up for another 20min. The poor part was that the waitress never came over at all during the 20min to give an update. Heck, didn't even come over to ask us anything or give us a refill on water. The owner of the restaurant came over but he was only asking how everything was. That was when we brought it up after 5min of the waitress being gone. The owner did give us a piece of carrot cake & was overly nice which is main reason this is a 3* & not a 2*. I usually am not harsh on reviews but the issue more was on the lack of communication between the waitress & our table. By the time he got his food, every single one of us was done or asking for a carry out box for their meal. While the owner was very nice, there obviously was a lack of communication between him & the waitress during the 20min wait bc even she was asking "can I get you something else?" not knowing the owner already had already given us some cake in a carry out container. I get Friday's are busy but don't put Crab Cakes on the menu (he got a side salad as the side so they didn't need any sides) if it takes 20min to make it or that nobody on a Friday night is ordering it at all that you can't skip an order. Also, I think the other table of 6 next to us was not happy on how long their food & drinks were taking. It was a bummer bc we were all really looking forward to a Friday Fish Fry in the UP.

The waitstaff are super friendly and their recommendation of deep fried whitefish was spot-on. The owner dropped by to say hello and he was really cool. The "pine cones ", which are deep fried mashed potatoes in a roughly cone shaped package of tastiness, are a nice accompaniment to the rest of the meal. The side salad was very good and having mostly local beers on tap was a very nice touch. Can't wait to try their prime rib night the next time I'm here on a weekend.
