Beautiful space. Small, but a great view! I had the mushroom risotto and Melissa told me she and the Chef had harvested the mushrooms just that morning! There were a few different variety of mushrooms, one of which I'd never heard of, but all were delicious! My boyfriend said it was the best risotto he's ever had and he doesn't even like mushrooms! He also ordered the pate and he said it was delicious. Just a heads up, you'll have to order your food and put down a $50 deposit at least a day before. They do this to reduce waste. read more

we absolutely loved the adorable property and the gorgeous coastal views, definitely stood apart from other bed and breakfasts we've been to!! I'd recommend the Inn overall but I'd advise against staying in the swallows nest room, it was adjacent to the lobby (so there was noise and it didn't feel very private) with a view of the carpark, so we felt slightly disappointed knowing it had been such an expensive stay overall. We also didn't have the best experience at the Inn's restaurant. Even though we had submitted our order to night before, we still ended up waiting almost an hour for our food to come out. Unsure if that was just an off night for them, but it was a bit underwhelming. For vegetarians, I'd say the restaurant isn't worth the price. 02/26/23 Elk Cove Inn and Spa Had an incredible rainy get away at Elk Cove Inn. Melissa was so sweet and almost always available if we needed something. We stayed in the Cliffside Covy. The ocean was less than a ten minute walk from our room. We also had incredible views from the room. The room was cute and cozy, we enjoyed the room but unfortunately their was a subtle musty smell in the room, which wasn't unbearable it was just noticeable when you walked in the room. The electric fire place wasn't working which was a bummer. The photos online also showed comfy lounge chairs, the chairs we had in the room weren't comfortable or lounge chairs. We had used a promotion to get a free night if it wasn't for that I wouldn't have thought the price was worth. Due to the quality of the room. Felt like we didn't get what we paid for. We had dinner at the inn one night and it was romantic and quiet. We thought the food was okay the best part for me was the clam chowder. The Salad was drenched in dressing, the pork entrée I had ordered was too dry, and the short rib presentation was very unappealing. However, it is nice to know that the vegetables came from the garden. Overall we felt at this price the dishes would have a better presentation. We loved the location and the views we saw. We understand that not everything is perfect. If we do decide to come back we will stay in another room and, check to see if all the amenities in that room are working. read more

I can't say enough about this beautiful place with incredible and warm staff. Elk Cove Inn is my new favorite place along the coast. Your check-in is contactless. Keys are waiting outside with your name on it. Furry friends greeted us as this Inn is dog friendly. We were also greeted by staff and had a full rundown of where things are located. You're given breakfast cards to complete for the mornings of your stay. The options are generous! Completed cards are to be dropped into a box outside the office/dinning area. All the rooms have incredible views of the ocean. Our room had a small tv, WiFi, a nice size bathroom with a standing shower, a small fridge, microwave, coffee/tea maker with all the fixings. It was the small details that made my stay so comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful all around. A large tray of all the yummy things are placed at your door in the morning. A knock on your door means it's time! There's a lot of work that goes into the preparation of the food and delivery. I felt like royalty. You have a red meal card in your room to pre-order dinner. You have to drop this in the box outside the office/dining area too. I booked the sauna/steam room to warm up after my hike. The spa is open and offer massages starting at $150. The steam room and sauna was a nice touch. Again, staff were accommodating and made the experience delightful. The dining area is small (5-6) tables. You're welcome to dine indoors or outside. Since you already ordered, your food will arrive in as soon as it's prepared. Bread and beverages are brought to you when you're seated. I recommend the garden salad. It's made with produce grown on the property. The chef makes a great dressing that is not to be missed. You'll be surrounded by nature, lovely people, and great food during your stay. When you first pull onto the property, you'll see the beautiful landscaping. And I don't just mean a few flowers - I mean they have a full, colorful garden that you walk through and enjoy. The gazebo is also a great, romantic spot on property to watch the sunset while drinking a nice glass of wine from one of the many local wineries. After getting checked in and meeting Bella (one of the unofficial mascot dogs), I was shown my suite. Now, I will tell you - and the owners agree - that this is not 5 star accommodations. If you're looking for the most modern of spaces to lay your head, this isn't it. But what you will find is a clean, eclectic space that's made up of thrift store furniture and meaningful touches. For instance, the suites are each named after a local historical figure from Mendocino County. And on the wall, you'll find a little information about that person and their contributions to the area. A lot of thought has gone into making these suites your home away from home, but the best part by far is the view. Right outside your window, or stepping out on your balcony, you see the stunning cliffs of the Northern California coast as far as the eye can see of the Pacific Ocean. It's breath-taking. And that sunset - oh man, it's absolutely mesmerizing. Melissa and Victor are the heart and soul of the Elk Cove Inn & Spa, and they were the best part of this stay for me. I so admire the way they lovingly care for their staff, animals, and the people they serve. Their commitment to the ingredients they use, the people they employ from the community, and their work ethic is unmatched. And they serve every single guest with a genuine smile and compassion. I was told there were 2 steps; actually there were 8 steps. My friend walks with a cane so this was important. The off site owners don't seem to know much about the property. From the ambience, music, beverages and snacks provided, reading library, heated blankets on massage table top quality skin products everything natural, homemade kombucha, perfect size temperature and functioning steam room and sauna made for couples and -- last but not least-- massage experience with Kaja which is simply out of this world with the highest degree of technical proficiency. I discovered muscles that I didn't even know I had! It was the first restaurant that asked orders to be placed before noon for dinner. 4 of us had 2 appetizers, French onion soup, Burrata and Tomatoes, Roasted Beet Napoleon, 4 entrees, chocolate mousse and Lemon curd cake. Everything except rabbit dish my husband ordered was very tasty. It was unfortunate his rabbit was chewy and bony to the point I spitted out when he offered me. He should have sent it back, but he has a problem doing that. When ordering as a course, size of entrees were too big and none of us could finish them. We had 2 bottles of Navarro Pinot Noir 2019 Méthode à l'Ancienne, my favorite local wine and the price was very reasonable. I prefer to have crystal wine glass for ambience, but it probably would raise the cost. Lemon Curd Cake served in wine glass was tasty, but too runny to call it a cake. Chocolate Mousse was perfect. We would definitely go back, and will share the entrees. It is rated great because rabbit and Lemon Curd cake. Servers were nice and one of them recommended other restaurant to try. This is one of our favorite places to go to getaway from the craziness of the Bay Area. The first time we stayed here was about 2.5 years ago. We had a nice massage and stay package and thoroughly enjoyed it. We did a couples massage and it was so relaxing; I wished that it could have been longer. They used to also have a free daily happy hour where you can pour your own wine and mimosas. The complimentary breakfast is so delicious and they used to serve it buffet style in the main house. Gourmet food at it's best. Also we got to kick back and enjoy the view before the long drive home. We decided to go back last weekend for the 3 day holiday weekend for another getaway and stayed at the Swallow's Nest room. It a bit dated and noisy in the main house but nice, comfortable, and clean. The hotel also has a Tesla charging spot and is dog friendly. If you like to bring your furbabies there, you can, they just charge a small fee. You can also walk along the beach and it's very private. The inn keepers and staff are super nice and hospitable, which made us feel very welcomed. The food was the best part of the stay. On Saturday night, we had reservations at 6pm and decided to sit on the deck to enjoy the view. However, we should have sat indoors since it was quite cold and we were shaking. It would have been even better if provided heat lamps due to the cold and a foldable umbrella since the tree leaves were falling onto our food. We got the Formula 5, which included an appetizer, 2 entrees, and a dessert. We had the pate, veal, cassoulet, and the tiramisu. I really liked the duck cassoulet and the tiramisu was a nice finish. We would have enjoyed it a lot more if it wasn't so cold outside though. Breakfast was our favorite part of the stay. We loved that you can order multiple drinks. You get your choice of eggs, hash browns, and meat. Also, if you upgrade to the smoked salmon (+$8), you wouldn't regret it, it's a huge chunk of fish! The truffled eggs were to die for. Some of the reviews for this place seem fake (multiple same reviews on different sites, same tone of writing, etc). Multiple things went objectively wrong over our 2 night stay: (1) There was a hair in my dinner soup (and they did not have any extra soup to replace it) (2) Clicking noise of a sprinkler woke us up at 12:30 midnight, and it went on for 40 mins (3) Avocado toast was completely burnt (4) Asked for a massage appointment, but Melissa never got back to us about it The rooms could use renovation. Chipped paint and stains on walls at a place we're paying $600/night is unacceptable. The way the seats/couch is placed isn't the most relaxing setup. Location is 30mins drive away from town. Some positives: (1) Our server Jesse seemed sincerely apologetic about everything -- though there was not much he could do about it (2) Good views of the ocean from the room, cute quaint spot. Sun comes directly into room starting 2/3pm which you may or may not like. It makes the room hot even if it's cold outside (3) goodie basket waiting for us in room at check in (cookie, popcorn, etc..) (4) breakfast is delivered to room. Bfast is free (the basic items), but pay extra for more sophisticated items like avocado toast, huevos rancheros, etc (5) They removed the charge for the soup and toast What was upsetting is despite us mentioning these things during our stay to give them a chance to make up for things - the owner just ignored it and never brought it up. read more

During a road trip my husband and I were making down the California coast, we had the opportunity to stay at Elk Cove Inn and Spa. Our experience was nothing short of amazing. If you're looking for a quiet getaway with amazing scenery and the literal best staff, Elk Cove Inn and Spa is a must! This place is very quiet and feels like some place out of a movie. Upon entering our room in Molly's Garden, we had complimentary chocolates, wine and snacks.Can we talk about the best pink bathtub on the planet?!? I'm not a pink girl by any means and I'm also very tall and I was able to enjoy the most amazing bubble bath and get totally relaxed. For dinner, you have the option of dining outside while you watch the waves roll in and the sun go down, which we definitely chose to partake. Just ensure you make your dinner reservations and choose your dinner formula ahead of time as there is no a la carte menu. Same deal for breakfast-- which gets delivered to your room at a designated time. We had to depart early missing our breakfast time. But, the staff made sure we got muffins and parfaits to enjoy while on the road. Elk Cove Inn and Spa has a rustic quiet beauty for the most amazing getaway. We came to Mendocino just after our wedding 14 years ago and finally we found what we had wanted then. A great place to stay, comfortable room and bed, a short walk to a perfect beach and no need to go much of anywhere outside of the Inn and the beach. Rob and Connie were great hosts, and we had wonderful massages from Connie. Chef Victor and his wife Melissa are amazing, what a great experience breakfast and dinner. The dinners, with multiple courses sized just right, with amazing entree choices and a wonderful dessert, were out of this world. All of the staff treated us so well, it was comforting and friendly. We enjoyed it so much we will be back in a couple of weeks. The Elk Cove Inn & Spa is soooo lovely. We enjoyed a spontaneous night there all around the property, the top-roof terrace and at the private beach. The garden's around seduce you into their magic. It is very quiet. We slept very well and were surprised by a wonderful breakfast served in our room in the morning. The hosts, staff, and gardeners are sooo very nice and delight your stay. There is on-site overnight parking. So everything is there. We will come again :-) read more
