At 10:20 I walked in and the place was packed, no empty chairs. I walked up to the man behind the counter and told him that I need to have a tire rotation. He said Okay, that it would take 2 hours. I said Okay, I gave him my key, waited for an open chair and sat down. I saw the full waiting room empty, fill back up, and empty again. After 2 & 1/2 hours and the room was filling back up again, I got in line, went to the counter and asked the man about my car. He asked about the model and make of the car and walked away. He never came back to me, he started waiting on other customers. After another 10 to 15 minutes, I walked back up to the counter and he asked me if I wanted to wait for my car to be done. I looked out in the parking lot and my car was still there. I told him NO! I wanted my key. He took my key out of the bag, gave it to me and tossed the paper work away. This is very poor customer service. After spending thousands of dollars on new tires, this is how they treat you. After they have your money, good luck with customer service.

The technician installed my brake pads backwards--a mistake that led to a progressively louder and more alarming metal scraping noise as I drove. I had informed the technician that I was about to travel through the Yukon with my 5-year-old son at the beginning of May, when road conditions can be unpredictable. I emphasized my concerns, yet my vehicle was returned to me with a critical installation error. My son and I waited for approximately three hours in a waiting area that was playing content not appropriate for children. I was willing to wait, but it was frustrating to hear the technician--who had said he would be starting on my vehicle immediately--spend a significant amount of time with another customer who arrived after me. He even stated multiple times that he wasn't supposed to be performing the work he was doing, but was going to do it anyway. This didn't inspire much confidence, and I became increasingly uneasy about trusting my vehicle--and our safety--to this location. Unfortunately, my instincts were correct. The shop was closed on Sunday, and I had to continue my journey toward Alaska without the ability to return for a correction. I was on a strict travel schedule for work and couldn't afford the delay. I didn't know what was causing the noise and feared I'd face a costly and dangerous repair issue in a remote area. Thankfully, Kal Tire in Williams Lake, BC was able to identify and correct the issue quickly. They treated me and my child with professionalism and care, and I only wish I had gone there in the first place. Driving with brake pads installed incorrectly is not only unsafe--it's a serious oversight that should never happen at a professional auto service center. I trusted Pep Boys to prepare my vehicle for a long-distance drive with a young child, and they failed to provide even the most basic standard of care. While the technician was friendly, it was clear he was stretched too thin to give my vehicle the attention it needed. Ultimately, I wish he hadn't worked on it at all. This was an incredibly stressful and frightening ordeal, especially as a mom traveling far from home in a place I don't know well. I chose this shop specifically to avoid stress during travel, and I regret that decision completely. I strongly urge anyone considering this location to go elsewhere. Your safety and peace of mind are worth far more than the risk.

My experience with Gateway has been nothing but stellar. I have used them for oil changes rather…read morethan going to my dealership. And what I experienced was NO pressure on needing to change and cabin or air filters every time! I asked about them and they said they didn't need changing. The dealership pressured me EVERY time to get new filters. Last visit was for a Cooling system fluid flush and they changed the filters then, all at a reasonable cost and time frame. Avonly at the front counter is personable and friendly. On one occasion where I chose to wait for my car I watched her help customers and take calls. In one instance a caller wanted some sunroof help. She explained that they didn't service sunroofs. She referred them to another place that does and told them if they couldn't find help there they would take a look at it as a courtesy to see if they could help. Another example of their excellent customer service was after I had paid I happen to mention the spoiler on my Sante Fe hatch was loose and a nut had come off that secured it. She and another technician came out and in less than 10 minutes had it properly back on and checked all fittings to make sure it was safe. (no charge) I miss this kind of hometown service. I will patronize them and share my experience with others looking for the same awesome treatment.
