If I could give Wes 10 stars I would. I was in Anacortes from Michigan when my starter began acting up over Labor Day. After being turned away by other repair shops, Wes welcomed me with "I'll never turn a stranger in trouble away." He dropped what he was doing to work on my Sprinter and got me on my way after two+ hours work. I had picked up a remanufactured starter which he installed, and since he was not 100% happy with its performance, he refused to take a cent for his labors. Honesty, integrity and kindness to strangers....what more could you ask for? I hope someday I have the chance to return his kindness. I called Wespaul Auto on 11/5/2020 when I needed a used car inspection on short notice of a 2017 Ford Transit van from Frontier Ford that I was looking at. I'd no prior relationship with them. They said "you can bring it in right now" which I did, two minutes later my phone rang and they said come have a look. The Transit was a RUSTED OUT MESS from 3 years of abuse in the Canada oil fields. They saved my bacon! When I pulled out my wallet to pay they said "just put $20 in their 'lunch envelope'" . I took my 1996 GMC Suburban in to these jokers. The driveshaft had a leak, and the drum brakes needed replaced, simple enough. 12,000 miles later I had to pay someone who knows how to work on vehicles to fix the mess they left me with. My drum brakes were full of gear oil, my drum was destroyed, oh, and not a big deal, but I paid them to adjust a headlight, they charged me to fix it, yet it was untouched. Had I been traveling down Pikes Peak, my vehicle would have erupted into flames from the oil on the brakes. Your shotty high price shop not only did a grossly substandard job, you put me in mortal danger. read more

My husband has been using Wes Pauls since he started driving. We live in Bellevue and he insists on driving all the way to Anacortes to get his car worked on. I decided to try them as well while we were in town. My car wasn't up-shifting properly between gears. It was concerning. I called them at the last minute on a Friday and they squeezed me in to look at the vehicle. It turned out my spark plugs were faulty and they replaced them on the spot and the issue was fixed. I was having some issues with my '97 Subaru and I took it to the guys at Wespauls. I could not have asked for a better experience. The guys were great: honest about the condition of my car and what it would take to fix it. The bottom line is it would take over twice what the car is worth to fix it. So while I'm not going to spend that money, they fixed my window for me, printed out what's wrong with the car and needs to be fixed, and...didn't charge me for the assessment or fixing the window! I asked them a lot of questions and they were happy to talk to me, give me recommendations, and just be helpful. I have had lots of people recommend Wespauls to me and now I can recommend them to lots of others. These guys are honest, friendly, know what they're doing, and care for the customer. Fast, friendly, informative, personalized service. We have used this establishment for over 10 years and they have treated us exceptionally. Good community name and a long line of quality managers. Their service fees are reasonable but the better issue is that they do not up sell. Time is time and not protocol time like the dealer. At times they may under sell and it may have been better to pay for the additional service but this is always your choice without pressure. read more

Amazing experience at Wespaul's. During the busiest part of the season (mid-summer) Jim squeezed us onto his already impossible schedule to complete an alternator change on a 2004 Nissan Quest. Completed the work as quoted, even though it took the mechanic several hours longer to R/R the alternator (think: V6 shoved sideways on FWD chassis). A few days later we discovered that the a/c wasn't working; Jim said to bring it back asap. They checked to find that the compressor had failed. Jim could have said, "yep, this is your's to pay for"- but because the mechanic had removed the compressor he absorbed the cost. It's hard to find a shop that operates with solid integrity like this. You could do worse than to have them work on your vehicle; it's obvious that they are a great pick. read more

I tried the shop across the street when my Durango had a cooling issue. They wanted to replace the entire engine based on a coolant test. I drove to Wespauls and said I wanted the thermostat replaced thinking it was probably the water pump going out. Sure enough, I got a phone call the next morning confirming same. No upsell BS, no dire warnings of future catastrophe if I didn't pay for major repairs Right Now. As a former mechanic, I appreciate these guys being willing to listen and then not give me the usual sales BS. The work on my Dodge is usually done very quickly (which shows the shop is being managed well) and I get regular phone calls for any problems or concerns. I've taken my Dodge in 4 or 5 times now, double-checked whatever they've told me was wrong, checked current prices on things, and been satisfied they are not trying to take advantage of me. It's hard to build trust in the auto repair industry but I've been very satisfied with Wespaul's so far. read more

This place is hands down worthy! My 2003 Toyota Tacoma had a drifting clutch, and getting worse, felt hydraulic. I'm on San Juan Island and things are scarce here. Called around and got a great referral from the Lube place in Anacortes to call WesPauls, "they are the best" he said. I called, talked at length, set up an appt. to get over on the ferry. Master and Slave cylinder replaced, done in less time than estimated, and charged me less. That was great, and NEVER happens at an auto shop. Wes was great, taking the time to talk about the problems, fitting in another fella's car that was stranded. His greatness also came to light even more when I got on the ferry headed back to san juan and once landed, my clutch was entirely down on the floorboard. Thank goodness I was in first gear, I drove home, called right away and Wes offered to fly back over, or if I could get back over in the morning he would come in and fix the truck on his day off saturday. Turns out it was a defective slave cylinder leaking, he replaced it, no cost and left ferry fee in an envelope on the seat when I picked up the truck. Absolutely happy about all of this, being on an island one can get stuck real easy, and he made sure that was not going to happen, offered a rental car, to fly over, whatever was needed to get my truck working.
