I don't write a lot of Yelp reviews, because at the end of the day I realize that most of the time I enjoy my restaurant experiences and if it goes poorly, it's just a minor mistake and not a big deal. Also, as someone who was a server for about 10 years, I understand most people working in restaurants are trying their best and mistakes happen. However, Elly's in Uptown Plaza has consistently been the worst restaurant experience I've ever had; from the food, to the service, to the value, it is consistently a negative dining experience. My first time at Elly's, my lox and bagel sandwich tasted stale and the server was in-attentive and un-friendly. I knew the bagel was stale because I could see plate after plate piling up in the window. Nobody in this restaurant runs food or has a sense of urgency, so this was not surprising. We had some OK experiences at Elly's afterwards, but then the trouble came back again. On my fourth visit, it took 20 minutes for my cortado to arrive. The server was friendly enough, but it was clear that she was the only server who cared about her tables. Everyone else was milling around the host stand, again with no sense of urgency, while this poor girl is busting her ass. Tables were unbussed (which is interesting considering there's always a wait) for forever. The fifth visit is what was the cherry on top. My girlfriend wanted to eat at Elly's, because she was willing to give it a chance, but her parents were reluctant because they have had terrible experiences previously. This was the masterpiece of Elly's complacent level of service. We waited 5 minutes to get greeted. Once again it took 20 minutes for a drink, this time my girlfriend waited to get an ICED TEA. Again, I could see plates piling up in the window while nobody ran food, instead taking the time to hang out at the host stand and stand around. I swear, there were plates of pancakes in the windows for 30 minutes. When the food finally arrived, which was at least 25 minutes, 3 out of the four orders were wrong. My Eggs Benedict tasted stale and the eggs  were no longer poached because they had gotten over cooked sitting in the expo window. When we told our server about our experience, she did not take any responsibility or apologize. She blamed the regular cooks being out on holiday and how the hosts would double seat her and it's her fourth day. We also mentioned how many bad experiences we have had before. Instead of sending a manager over or offering to take it off our checks, she told me to leave a phone number because she's "Very close with the owner" and they'll call me to make it right. Afterwards we went next door for cookie dough and the cashier mentioned, unsolicited, that she's never been impressed with Elly's food or service either. She says there's constant turnover. Honestly, I don't blame the servers or the cooks; a restaurant this bad can only be rotten from the core due to apathetic and incompetent management. As someone who was a server and in restaurants long enough to know, avoid this place like the plague. No urgency, overpriced, and no commitment or pride in their product or service. If you're looking for a trendy brunch with no substance, this is your place. Over a week later, no call from Elly's to make it right. Just the bad taste in my mouth from their food and horrendous service. read more

I would not recommend this place we came for breakfast the eggs and hash browns and toast were extremely burned we told our waiter who saw we didn't eat our food, the manager then came to speak to us and said we didn't even get them a chance to try and fix it so we could only get 15% off . The Manager was really rude. She also had us waiting because the went to check the cameras to see if we had ate the food. read more

Was really disappointed with our breakfast, as we had such high expectations from reviews. We arrived around 9:30am for brunch Sunday and were seated promptly- the place was packed, so we owe them another shot potentially when they aren't as busy. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which is served on a sesame brioche with scrambled eggs bacon and cheese for seven dollars. It was your typical sandwich- nothing to write home about but tasty- my suggestion would be to melt the cheese. Kyle ordered the steak and hash brown bowl; the real question is where was the steak? He had about 3 strips scantily in the bowl, and the hashbrowns weren't browned. The best thing served was the banana pancakes ($2 upcharge). If we went back, I'd opt for the crepes, pancakes or French toast. Mimosas are $3 but tiny. They also offer Mexican coffee for $5 and have options for bloody Mary's. read more

I haven't been here for months because service there is a hit or miss. This time was bad too. I had a server and trainee take care of me so I thought cool I have 2 people take care of us. Nope it was bad. They forgot our pancakes. They never checked back and I had to get a manager so I can pay. The server saw me at hostess stand and just strolls to me so I can pay. There's lots of other options in the neighborhood with better service like Brunch Snob or Broken Yolk. read more

Oin a Sunday, there was a 40 min wait. But oh nom noms!!! Their menu is amazing and abundant! Was so hard to choose from so many good choices! I was stuck between the migas frittata and SW frittata. I ended up getting the SW Frittata which consisted of hash browns, tomatoes, bacon, and jalapenos (minus the onions) topped with cheese. It also came with a side of fluffy pancakes or toast. I opted for pancakes. Lord it was so good! I'm craving those pancakes again!!! I came with some friends and everyone loved what they ordered. They got a salmon bagel, biscuits and gravy, an eggs Benedict, miga frittata, and juevo rancheros. We will be returning! read more

Food is amazing but the service was lacking. Communication is key between staff and customers. Letting us know the situation ahead of time and or acknowledging the long wait would have been much more acceptable than being completely ignored. That being said we loved the food enough to go back so they can redeem themselves. read more

Usually we eat in rather than order to go and today was to go, which will not happen again. I ordered via phone and the girl said it would take 20 min. Since it was lunchtime I trusted her time quote. Bad idea! Our food had been sitting for 15 of those 20 minutes. Everything was lukewarm at best. My guy's fries were a soggy mess and his burger tasted like those burgers they sell at Miracle Mile. You know, the ones they keep in water? So gross. My meal was a skillet breakfast that had completely congealed together and cold in some places. It was eatable but not yummy. All of this came to $28.00! Soooo not worth it and we'll never order takeout from here again. Big disappointment. Denny's would have been better and a whole lot cheaper. read more

We have been here several times now and every single time the service and the food is phenomenal! I have to eat gluten free so, if you've ever ate gf you know this means a LOT. Today my jittery bouncing @&$ bounced my napkin right off my lap and before we even thought about asking for a new one we had someone (who wasn't even our server) bring us new ones. Came here for breakfast the other day and was pleasantly surprised at how many delicious brunch items to choose from. I started off w a raspberry cooler which is a mimosa but w raspberry juice and a raspberry sorbet scoop plopped into it! What a change from the standard mimosa! And sooo good!! The sorbet added a new taste to the mimosa! Definitely hooked. My husband got the mushroom omelet in egg whites and I got the Santa Fe omelet which comes w avocado and bacon and you get a choice of toast or pancakes! How awesome is this? I have to admit that this might be one of our new favorite breakfast places. The service was fast and our server John took good care of us. We had the Denver omelet and the veggie omelet which had wild mushrooms, tomato, onion and goat cheese. Both were delicious! The stringy hash browns were awesome too. I had really high expectations after a recommendation from a friend...it was just okay. Great menu options, but the frittata has way too many hash browns, my friend ordered an egg white omelette and got a regular omelette and they charged me twice for my entire bill - then told me they messed up. I've been mulling about how I feel about this place. Its definitely a grade A brunch spot comparable to all the other new brunch areas that have been opening up recently. Which I suppose is part of why I had to think of it so long. The place is cute and menu expansive but definitely not something new. My Spartan omelet was jam packed and delcious. Pretty much all the food came with sides. My omelette came with hash browns AND toast. They were doing a donation drive where if you donated money you get a pumpkin to decorate, which in turn they would put around the restaurant. I love that concept!! So neat and a nice touch seeing the unique pumpkins on everyone's tables. I have to deduct a star because the service was extremely slow throughout the entire experience. There was a point where one person in our party had finished their drink before someone else could get their drink. They also had some condiments that were not available - for example barbecue sauce even though they serve burgers. I can see Elly's being included in my brunch circuit - but definitely just when I have enough time and not to hungry to accommodate the slow service. read more

Amazing food and service! Outdoor dining is in a great location and quiet, lots of seating too so during the week you don't wait to sit.

New management = price gouging, lower quality food, less staffing and took an amazing place and turned a weekly customer into one who probably won't return again. Used to have any meeting I could here. Great staff, quality food, and lovely atmosphere. Since new management, they charge for literally everything they can, some of which is surprising and things I have never been charged for at any restaurant ever. On top of that food quality is no longer what it was (it was clear pancake batter was mixed in a bowl not properly cleaned from making either muffins or scones as you could taste the mix of both, including some lemon). Would have sent it back to have it remade if I knew how much they were going to charge, but was surprised when I got the bill. Lastly, the staff there, at least those remaining, are great, but the lack of staffing makes a terrible experience. Would give one star if it wasn't for the quality people working there trying to stick it out under this new leadership. In the meantime, if you want to overpay for lower quality food and wait forever, you can continue to choose Elly's. This guy won't be back, not until management learns what made this place so great. read more

This place has really declined in recent months. Two of the last three times there my hot breakfast was not hot. The staff are friendly etc. and the food product quality is good to very good, but beyond that they have fallen badly on the basics. Today, two servers were confused as to whether they had my table. Didn't get coffee for 10 minutes. That's the only coffee I had as I was not offered it again, until I asked him if refills were offered, despite my empty mug sitting were it was empty and easily visible. Three other servers had coffee pots and walked by but apparently they are not trained to refresh clients other than their own. My check on the way out took over 10 minutes to get. Wow. We were pleased with everything. Chessa was our server and she is prompt, friendly and funny. Gave great recommendations to us. She said the hollandaise was excellent I ordered it and she is right. My Provence Benedict was awesome. Hubby got the Meat Lover's Skillet and loved it. Chessa said the make the best pancakes so my hubby had them instead of toast. They are amazing. Light fluffy and easy to overeat. It will be our breakfast joint from now on. read more

Busy breakfast spot in uptown Phoenix. Host seated us at the smallest table in the place. Tables so close together I had to sit as close as possible to my table. I ordered sunshine omelette subbed mushroom for avocado. Food arrived and was not a omelette. It was more like scrambled eggs with undercooked hash browns and the weirdest jelly ever. The mushrooms were so chewy that I sent the food back and asked for just fruit which... was just fruit. She still charged me for the toast even though it came with the breakfast that I sent back and told her o didn't want. Might give them one more chance and have pancakes or crepes. read more

Went here visiting from California, great food and our waiter Brad was awesome and sweet. However Jessica was horrible and VERY rude! She came out to us on the patio barking orders, complained that we couldn't have someone sitting at the end of the table (fire restriction apparently) complained about our senior three legged yorkie dog, then rudely mentioned that we should not have ordered the baked apple pancake because it was after 2:15 and wanted to make sure it didn't happen again. She pretty much ruined the experience for us and should take some lessons in how to treat customers. read more

I love this place! I have come here often the past two years, only my third time eating out since March due to the pandemic. Elly's is doing it right! All the workers, including the manager whom I spoke with to say what a great experience this was, were wearing masks. Social distancing was executed flawlessly and I think it took all of three minutes after I placed my order for my food to arrive. Possibly fastest I've ever eaten anywhere! The Classic was outstanding, perfect temperature and as always the pancakes were phenomenal. Best of all, my server Amaia was tremendous, never let my coffee cup get empty in spite of my noticing she was working with multiple tables, was very friendly and took her role seriously while doing it with a smile. I knew already I'd be back because Elly's is one of my favorite breakfast spots in town, today's experience solidified that even more. Please support this restaurant!!! read more

What has happened to this place? We have been coming here since they opened, but today, a Monday morning about 10:00, has made us reevaluate coming again. There were 15 tables split between five/six servers. We happened to get one that was floating through the morning. She was pleasant but it just seemed she just wasn't quite into the Monday morning routine. All four of our meals were cold, one was just not as ordered, and it took much longer than usual to get our food. I want to start this off with the fact that several of us have extensive experience in the restaurant industry from hosting to bartending, even back of house. We go out of our way to be kind to restaurant staff every time we're out. With that being said, we had a larger party with a few little ones. From the moment we got there, each and every one of us had a negative experience with nearly every member of the staff. Everyone treated us like we were a massive inconvenience, from the hosts to our server. Multiple people cut us off going outside while we were actively walking through the front door to walk to our table. Our server didn't smile once and it was very obvious he didn't want to take care of us. The food has also gone substantially downhill. All of us had either lukewarm or cold food, the corn beef hash had several large gristley chunks in it that couldn't be eaten, my English muffin was burnt, and we had to ask for jam and instead of asking us which kind we'd like, he just brought grape until I specifically asked for strawberry. I understand they get very busy on Sundays, so we really were trying to have grace and understanding, but with so many people quite literally glaring at us and acting like we were a massive inconvenience, it was a really terrible experience. This place used to be good, but every time we've come over the last few years it's gotten progressively worse each time. We won't be back. (I'd like to say that May was the only person in the entire restaurant that had a smile on her face and was so kind and she wasn't even our server...just helping him deliver his food because she was serving the next table over. I have not had a German Pancake in years, so imagine my excitement to learn that there's a local restaurant that makes them. SOOOO GOOD!! Elly's is located in a central area of Phoenix, very accessible. The restaurant itself is cozy and total "brunch/cafe" vibes. Food was amazing. We ordered Bloody Marys, but they were not that great, the Tequilla Sunrise was delicious though! Our server Amaia was wonderful and took very good care of us. The table next to us was not very happy with their drink order and she had the bar remake it, then followed up several times to confirm it was to the customer's satisfaction. We fortunately were not as challenging and she ensured our visit was lovely. We will be returning! read more

You guys, I want to love this place so terribly! I took a picture of my food because it looked amazing. I ordered the Original Eggs Benedict. The eggs were overcooked, so there was no yoke to overflow into the ham and muffin, the English muffin was odd-it was almost as if it was stale (extremely hard, not easy to chew). Have been going to Elly's for some time now with very few problems. One time, we received pancakes that were so sour that they were inedible (possibly from sour buttermilk) . The server promptly picked them up and brought proper tasting pancakes. Because of how professional this and other small issues were handled, we continued to frequent the establishment. Unfortunately, the last visit changed our opinion. We ordered standard breakfasts (eggs, bacon, hashbrowns). We finished and paid. After leaving, I noticed on the receipt that there was a 3% fee for using my card to pay. I understand some places do this and see a sign stating so. However, I have never noticed a sign displayed at Elly's. I feel this dishonest tactic ruined our positive view of the restaurant and now have no desire to return. Yes, I should have looked at the receipt more carefully and should shoulder some blame, so I will give them 2 stars instead of 1. read more

THIS PLACE IS FLAGGING & TAKING DOWN THERE BAD REVIEWS BECAUSE OF THERE SERVICE. I posted the comment on 6/27/21 & I STILL STAND STRONG AGAINST THIS RESTAURANT. My comment: I need someone to contact me ASAP I want to report the manager who has extremely rude services I asked for the corporate phone # to report & she responded with "Figure it out" when I tried to ask the employees for her name she advices every single employee to go to the back & do not speak to them or your fired. That is extremely bad customer service & all over them messing up our food. They couldn't even take accountability. & I am 27 years old I look very you they didn't ask me for my ID nor my boyfriends who is only 24 who looks even younger. I understand it's busy but they should still put the customers first. They got my order wrong twice & gave it to 2 others party's not only that they lied & said they called my name when waiting in line which was a lie. The total amount I was in the restaurant was for 2.5 hours and all I got was mimosas & water. This is extremely horrible service. The first time was delivery, so I gave them a second chance. Today, we returned and ordered our food to go. The corned beef hash order was missing hashbrowns and toast. The eggs Benedict had burnt English muffin. If you want overpriced and mediocre food, eat here. Best pancakes in the world I'll say it. Food is all so good. I have no complaints such great food!

My sister and I both ordered the Kale Caesar salad with creamy dressing however the salads arrived WITHOUT dressing. When we pointed it out to the waitress she brought back vinegarette. That's not a Caesar salad! The salad was lackluster and kinda skimpy but gluten-free which is what we needed. The service was prompt and the waitress was great. Next time I'll stick to the breakfast menu. read more
