Came here with my sister on a Saturday morning. My sister had the French toast with eggs and a side of bacon, and she had no complaints. I went with the avocado Benedict it was okay, nothing to brag about. The service was friendly and efficient. They stopped by often to refill our coffees. Please don't touch blinds. It was a little overkill. My server was excellent and breakfast came out quickly. The plates were a bit old and faded. Eggs cooked nicely. Bacon was limp and undercooked which made it taste fatty. My coffee and oj were good. The pancakes looked beautiful but were so disappointing. They were thick and very vanilla tasting not buttermilk. Got our delivery from grub hub, my center cut pork chops were not center but cheap thin hard as rubber chops, they placed the chips in the bottom of a styrofoam container and dumped mash potato's on top of them followed by wet string beans Needless to say not a very impressive looking meal in the container.. The wet string beans placed on top ruined the potato's , the chops were were like rubber My wife's salmon was smothered in mash potatoes although she ordered rice another destroyed meal squished into one container. For Valentine's Day, me and my partner decided to go to Elm Diner to give it a try. We are native to this area but never have been there surprisingly. This is located in a plaza just incase you are wondering. As I walked in, I was greeted by a very nice woman that I believe is named Nicole. She was very nice, kind and energetic. The type of woman whose job can only be done by her because she does it so well. She quickly got us started with water and came back in a speedy time to take our order. We ordered about 5 grilled cheeses, a 2 stack Nutella French toast and a side of fries. She told us that the fry portions are pretty big so we decided to go with the one. She was right, because by the end of my meal I was stuffed. The food was overall great quality. When you go to a diner, you expect that DINER TASTE. That DINER FEEL. Everything you want. Grilled cheese was amazing. Good amount of cheese and great butter taste. We did ask for a side of ranch and it was a little thick, but still good nonetheless. I usually am not a fan of crinkle cut fries, but the fries here were very good. In comparison to other diners, they were good but not a full 10/10. The first time I ever stepped into Elm Diner was right after my sorority initiation in April 2022. Little did I know that visit would mark the beginning of a beautiful chapter. I didn't make it back until around December 2023, then not again until early fall 2024, and I've been kicking myself ever since for waiting so long between visits. From that moment on, Elm became my go to spot..my little safe haven whenever I needed comfort, good food, or just a familiar, welcoming atmosphere. In fact, I've gone so often since then that I now proudly consider myself a regular. Now, with graduation just days away, I'm filled with gratitude...and more than a little sadness knowing my visits will be far less frequent. But if life takes me to grad school in either upstate New York or back to Connecticut, Elm will absolutely be one of my first stops. The staff here? Beyond wonderful. I don't even know their names (yet), but every interaction has made me feel like part of their family. There's a warmth and familiarity to this place that's impossible to fake making it more than just a diner. And don't even get me started on the menu..it never disappoints. From egg avocado sandwiches to late night mashed potatoes, everything hits the spot. It's the kind of place you can rely on, over and over again. To the team at Elm: An endless thank you for unknowingly being such a main part of my college experience. You've fed my stomach very well and my soul. I'll miss you more than I can put into words. Elm Diner is one of our favorite comfort spots to eat in the area but though a lot of things are fantastic there is room for improvement. Service is always great, and we love most menu items. However, it seems as though they recently changed the pickles they serve with sandwiches. Elm Diner had my favorite pickles probably of all time. I never left without ordering an extra side of them to take home. Now they are just generic dill chips. So disappointing. The steak fries are also horrible, and any other type of fry is an up charge. read more

I am not going to order the lobster because I do not hate myself enough. But you know what? Very good turkey club (failing myself as a vegetarian here) and a very good Reuben (my gf claims; I haven't tried it and have no sense of her experience with Reubens but good relationships are built on trust) I regularly order delivery from here and I get it faster than just about anywhere. When I go there, I get a proper diner waitress who is only half interested in what's going on. Perfection. Its not the nicest diner in terms of like... the vibe. I have driven by this place more times than I can count. But DoorDash decided to send me a lovely promo code so I opted for this restaurant from a specific list of eateries. Always one for an amazing seafood dish I saw that they had baked stuffed shrimp. It came with a side salad, mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. I believe there was also the option to get white rice along with other vegetables. But mashed potatoes and corn go hand-in-hand. I ordered online and the food was ready upon my arrival. The interaction was very brief being that I paid online. But overall it was pleasant. The diner was spacious and very clean. There was also ample parking in a lot. The shrimp are OK. The taste was good, the stuffing was a lot of breading with small salad shrimp incorporated into it. It had a good flavor but it wasn't a seafood stuffing. The mashed potatoes were OK, the gravy was pretty good. After eating the bread stuffed shrimp and several forkfuls of the mashed potatoes I was not able to touch the salad nor the corn. All in all it was a decent experience and I wouldn't mind going again to try something else. They appear to have a nice breakfast selection. read more

My son and I ate at Elm Diner on a Sunday at around 1:00 p.m. It was our first visit and we were quickly seated. The restaurant is bright, the staff is very friendly and the menu has quite a large variety to choose from. Also it is very accessible for the disabled. They appear to have a lot of repeat customers which is a good sign for any restaurant. I ordered Eggplant Parmesan with Ziti and a garden salad. The salad was so fresh and colorful with different greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and olives but more importantly it was served with homemade Italian salad dressing. It was great. The main entree' was served hot and large enough that I took a large portion of it home. I was very happy with the food, it was made perfectly and delicious. I was happy we chose to eat there. My son had chosen a Greek omelet with Grits, toast and coffee. He was also impressed with the food and said that he would put this restaurant on his list. Having dropped the lid of the dutch oven on my foot, it's a (literal) pain to walk further than my front door, so I took advantage of a free delivery offer to have many exciting and reheatable boxes of food brought to me. (Yes, I feel guilty for not supporting closer restaurants.) The food is right on target for what I expect from a diner. The waffle is a waffle. The farmer's omelet is luscious and uses fresh mushrooms. The cheese blintz order is enormous. On at least one major delivery site, their menu is so smartly laid-out that I somehow ordered a Boston cream donut, and I don't intend to regret it. Elm diner has just steadily gone down hill. I got food poisoning from the chicken salad on Christmas Eve and couldn't celebrate with family last year it was so bad my family wanted to take me to the er.. We decided to try again due to new management and us living down the block but each time the food quality Is horrible. I ordered French toast with banana. I've never had bananas smell bad. Idk what this green thing in on it and they're pretty much black. I couldn't even eat the French toast because the bananas made it smell so bad. Elm Diner is probably one of the best diners in West Haven. The service is great and the food is pretty good. I have eaten here a few times and I have never been disappointed. I stopped by one Saturday night after going out in New Haven and wanted to get something small to eat. I ordered a stack of pancakes with banana and chocolate chips. Very good! My order came out quickly and the waitress checked back with me a couple times to see if I needed anything else. I have also stopped by and grabbed their homemade soups to go. Elm Diner in West Haven has recently gotten new ownership and it shows in a GOOD WAY. Previously, it was just 'meh' diner food with neon yellow turkey gravy. Not sure when but new owners took over and it's a totally different experience. Food is actually FRESH. We Ordered the Yankee pot roast the other day and meat was tender and cut with a fork. They use fresh veggies (seem to be big on carrots), homemade mashed potatoes, etc. it tastes like my grandmother made it. Soups too! Typically places hide the flavor with salt but their soups are homemade and the least salty restaurant soup I can recall. Also ordered the strawberry shortcake - very good as well. If you haven't given them a try in awhile, I highly recommend it. Side note - delivery was FAST. Door Dash said 45 minutes, we got our order in about 25. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

I'm visiting West Haven and I've been to a couple of other diners and I would rank this one the best, above the rest. The inside decor is very pleasing to the eye. It's clean and updated with a modern look, but still has that diner feel to it. What a great place to satisfy all of your cravings because it has an extensive menu. I ordered the chicken soulvaki platter, which came with the chicken soulvaki, greek salad, and a side. The portion was a bit over whelming and that's not a complaint because I ended up making two meals out of it. The price was right as well. After I was done eating, I took a stroll over to the dessert case and everything is freshly made by the in house baker and it all looked delicious. I went for the carrot cake and again I was able to make it into two desserts. The carrot cake was moist and sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
