I found this place on a search via yelp. I come in solo as I'm trying to be intentional about exploring Conneticut as it'll be my home for the next 4 years. Me - "Hello!" "What would you like?" In a very crass and unwelcoming tone. "A menu?" I grab a seat and instead of coming over to get my order she's screaming, "what would you like" from behind the bar. I should have walked out then but I'm a bit embarrassed at this point as the only black person in a barely filled diner. Another person comes in. Different ethnicity. Completely different disposition. "Hi How are you!" Walks over to the table, gets their order. Will I ever eat here again? Never. Never. And then to make it worse, the food is completely underwhelming and lacking flavor. I left 95% of the food behind. Doesn't have the charm of a diner or a mom and pop spot. My first impression was Twilight Zoneish, in that the restaurant was totally empty. Not a good sign. Possibly, as P & P suggested, it was because Yalies were on winter break. Still... Cozy atmosphere run by husband and wife. My western omelet was very good, home fries just okay (not spiced and not very hot). P & P thought his blueberry pancakes were very good. His side of sausage good. Prices were all over the place. For example, a side order of CBH (from a can) for $6 seemed high, but a large orange juice only $2.50. Many other examples. Going there and being waiting on by Betsy or one of her boys who are now adult men has always been a joy. is he remembers my name and those of my spouse and kids. Pre-COVID the wait for a seat at counter, booth or table was well worth the wait. My go-to? Eggs scrambled with hash well done, bacon and a hot cup of tea. No gyros! I had to say that first since I walked in thinking there was gyros since it was a greek diner. That being said, what it is is a great hole in the wall Greek diner with very inexpensive, very tasty comfort food. Once I stepped inside the door I thought there might be something unique about this little nondescript diner since it was packed with locals. There was one woman covering all the tables so service wasn't speedy but she was very polite. After reviewing the menu I selected the Reuben Special, corned beef on rye with fries & a Diet Coke. The can of Coke arrived at the table a few minutes later with a large glass of ice to pour it in. Shortly after that the waitress returned with my order. I have to say the sandwich was impressive. Piled high with moist, hot corned beef and a generous helping of thick crispy fries. While the venue may not be fancy the food was delicious with generous portions, served by a very nice woman that made you feel at home. But when the check came was the real surprise! One deluxe cheeseburger and two Reuben Specials with fries all around and three soft drinks $26!!! If you are looking for good food at a fair price and don't get hung up on fancy this is the place to go. Coffee's $1 and tastes like coffee will taste for $1, and the blueberry pancakes I had were yummy! I'm not an egg person, but I've heard omelettes are also good here, and their corned beef sandwich sounded good. The service was sort of anti-diner. I usually expect the check to come out with the food at places like this, but we actually had to ask our server for the tab! He was a little negligent when it came to checking in on our table, but not in an unpleasant way. I finally went to Patricia's, after first hearing about it several months ago. It was described to me as good breakfast food (especially for those hangover mornings) for CHEAP! And I was certainly not disappointed when I saw their menu selection/pricing. Since it was my first time, I opted for the classic 2 eggs with toast and homefries. This cost me a whopping $2, plus $1 for coffee. The plate appeared as a reasonable portion, just enough to be satiated without feeling starved or overly stuffed. I do plan to return, several times, and try their omelettes (between 4.50 - 5.00 for 3 eggs, toast, AND homefries!) as well as pancakes/french toast. Now, eggs are eggs, so there's not much to say about those. The toast appeared to be regular wonderbread-esque, buttered with a grape jam. The homefries were somewhat cubed and somewhat mushy potatoes with onions interspersed. And the coffee was a bit watery. Obviously, it was no fancy-shmancy meal, but it was more than fitting for the cost. Quite a few people streamed in during hte duration of my meal, and they seemed to be quite friendly with the staff (of 2 people).
