I had been here previously when they were out of the Los Angeles Avenue location and boy I will tell you the difference was night and day. I had called the day before and the gentleman that answered the phone was very honest about the wait times. I came here without warning on a Friday morning and there was no wait time at all. Elmer, who was at the front desk greeted me immediately and he knew exactly what to do with my Groupon voucher I had purchased. I have nothing negative to say about my experience there today but I would certainly like to add on to the positive: I truly appreciate the under promise and over deliver when it came to the wait times, he mentioned 90 minutes for the work to be completed but was done in under an hour. My Groupon also only covered 5 quarts maximum and he was kind enough to cover two out of the three additional quarts that I needed. It's pretty refreshing to experience genuine people every now and then. I spent hours acquiring a specific bolt and nut combo across pep boys, autozone, oreily's and finally home depot. I guess it was a bad day because no one wanted to help me so when I finally found the parts and landed at Elmer's, I was able to relax a little as we discussed what the issue was and how these things can happen. While I waited a little he put on a football game for me in the lobby and within 15 minutes he set my problem straight free of charge and thanked me for my service in the military. I understand that people can have bad experiences and will feel let down when trying to get a deal (read the previous reviews) but today, this experience, and directly from the owner, I felt relieved and thankful. I have been coming to this mechanic for over 3 yours and have never had a issue I trust them. They were originally in Camarillo and I stay in Thousand Oaks never did I mind making the drive just because I know I would have peace of mind. Elmer is a real good since your guy I would give the five stars but unfortunately my last 3 recent oil changes. Have not been on point,which means you get a tire rotation with your oil change. That means my tires have not been switched out for about nine months and I hope that doesn't affect the we're completely on my tires. and I believe that has to do with him not being in the shop during the oil change. I took my car to Elmer's to get my cars front brakes done. A few days after getting the work done my front right brake started to make grinding noise while stopping. I called and spoke with Elmer and explained to him what I was experiencing, he asked me to bring the car back and he'd make sure it was taken care of it. I dropped the car off for round 2, shorty after I received a text message with a couple of pictures; one of a rear shock and another of one of my rear brakes. I received a call from Elmer shortly afterwards to be informed that my rear brakes had 10% life remaining and that all of my shocks were leaking and my struts need to be replaced. Elmer also explained that the reason my front brake was grinding was due to an accumulation of dirt in the caliper?? I asked him for an estimate and he quoted me over $1,200 for everything. I told Elmer that I would wait on the rear brakes and the shocks/struts. Elmer agreed to clean the front brake and said that should take care of the problem. Well, it didn't... As I drive to work the following day I experienced the same problem and it seemed like it was worse than before. I called Elmer and explained to him that the brake was still grinding. As he had done previously he asked me to bring the car in and he'd take care of it. I returned for round 3, shortly after he called to tell me that now my rear brakes were in dire need of replacement and my front and rear rotors needed to be replaced as well and I still needed to do the shocks/struts. I don't know how any of this was relevant to why I brought the car in in the first place, and all seemed like lies. He started to quote me more costs (Seems like his standard operating procedure), I cut him and said I am not paying you any more money. I told him I only wanted him to take care of the front brakes and fix the problem that led to why I had originally brought the car in. He did reluctantly warranty the brake pads but told me I would no longer have a warranty on the work because I was choosing not to do the front rotors. When I returned to pick up the car Elmer asked me to sign his work order which had a long narrative on it basically voiding any remaining warranty. After reading it thoroughly I told him I wasn't going to sign it, he replied with a chuckle and said that's ok you don't actually have to. What a piece of work! I subsequently took my car to a relative that is very mechanically inclined & very automotive savvy. We inspected the car to verify what Elmer had claimed. Unfortunately we did not find what he said to be true with exception that one rear shock was leaking. The rear brake pads had about 40% pad life remaining and none of the rotors or struts needed to be replaced. We chose to do the rear shock replacements ourselves. I will admit that after they replaced the front brake pads which again he was reluctant to do without doing the rotors as well, I have not heard or felt any more grinding out of the front brake. All and all my advice is to take your car somewhere else! This place will up-sell you on unnecessary work or they won't do the job right to begin with. They are full of lies. Unfortunately I experienced all of the above. Elmer will lie to your face right through his fake smile! Don't trust them!!! read more

Got a sweet Groupon deal for alignment, steering wheel came back misaligned, they said they fixed it when I brought it back, but it was still misaligned. Brought it back again and they said they couldn't adjust it that it was the manufacturers fault and if I wanted them to fix it they had to buy a $40 part but the cost to repair it would be $500+ WTF... but they said the car is aligned to specifications even though the steering wheel alignment is off. Went to get alignment redone at local tire chain the misalignment was fixed by doing a standard alignment and didn't need to pay $540 + Elmers was quoting me to fix steering wheel alignment, they were too lazy to fix the crap job they did when they aligned my vehicle. Wife found a groupon for an oil change. Took in her new car with 15K on the OD and no oil leak. Got it back with an oil leak. Took it back for them to fix and they showed her with the car on the lift that there was no oil leak and that the drain plug was tight. Gave it back to her with an even worse oil leak which I had "fixed" today by an honest mechanic who said the only problem was a loose drain plug. See pix. This means Elmer loosened the drain plug on purpose after he put on his show in the garage I guess just to be a giant D. You gotta be nuts to take your car here. read more

I bought a 4 wheel alignment on Groupon. Prior to buying I called the company to see if my full size Chevy Silverado qualified. He assured me it did. I then bought the Groupon coupon. I called a 2nd time for an appointment, I again was asked what type of vehicle. Again I told him a full sized Chevy Silverado, he said I remember you no problem. I arrived within the hour and Elmer tells me my tires are too big. He acknowledges talking to me but didn't realize I had a 20" tire. For those of you reading 20" is nothing, this is not some Monster Truck. Instead of $48 dollars he needs $150. I had the same truck done ( Big Brand Tires ) one year earlier for $50 dollars. Classic bait and Switch. You're probably asking why I didn't go back to Big Brand Tires in the first place. This place was literally right next to where my granddaughter was playing in a volleyball game. I thought why not, drop it off, watch the game and then go home. Elmer would not back down or acknowledge he told me the truck was ok. This was my FIRST experience with Groupon, I was warned these are usually failing Companies trying to stay afloat. They were right, I've learned my lesson, no more Groupon. Read other reviews, they did the same thing to them. They try to get the most out of you. Avoid the Living Social deal... and this shop altogether. Thinking I'd save money, I purchased the wheel alignment voucher on Living Social. The owner was cordial upon entering the shop. But once my vehicle was placed on a lift, that's when he became very defensive. He pointed out that the control arm bushings were damaged, so he couldn't perform the alignment. "Read the fine print," is what he said. Disgruntled, I took my vehicle to another shop where the technicians said that the control arm bushings were fine -- and since the toe is what gets adjusted (not the control arm), an alignment could be performed. I ended up spending more money but I didn't have to replace my control arms. I simply filed a case through my credit card and got a refund. If you purchased the voucher, make sure all your suspension components are in full working order and read up on alignments first. read more

On 7/6 I took my car in for a diagnosis. My check engine light was on. I dropped the car off with an employee named Dylan. He had given me some quotes on things I knew were broken a few weeks prior and had told me it would be $100 for a diagnosis. That they would call before doing anything to the car. A few hours later, Elmer (the boss) Calls me. He told Me what was wrong with the car and the problems were almost all ones I knew about and had gotten quotes for from Dylan already. All of a sudden it was $3600 total to fix my car instead of $1500 or so. I told him I could not afford that and that I just wanted my car back. He told me that my car had been taken apart. He said his employee spent 3 hours taking it apart (lie, at the time of his call the car had not been there 3 hours- learn how to check time stamps before telling lies) and he said it would take another 3 to put it together and that I had to pay $380 to get my car back plus a completely different diagnosis fee and he said my car would not be running (it was running when I got there). I told him he could not do a teardown without my consent and he acknowledged that I signed NOTHING allowing him to do a teardown. I refused to pay the $380. After 2 phone calls with Elmer, he said I could get my car for the $100 diagnosis fee that Dylan quoted me. He said it would not be running. I said I wanted my car back and would have it towed away if I had too. He was holding my property and had broken the law at that point. You cannot tear down a car without consent. Several hours later I got a call from Dylan to come get the car. I went to get my car and Elmer was gone. I had dylan call him- I did not want to pay for the $100 diagnosis because I feel he broke the law by tearing down my car. Elmer said I had to pay so I did and there were no prices listed on the estimate or anything. Not sure what I got for that $100 but they should not be allowed to tear down cars without the owners permission and then try to charge them money to put it back together. SCAM. Called and spoke to Elmer. Told him I had an 1984 Chevy 350 engine and asked if could I use the Groupon coupon. He said he would have to check out the truck because its older and may require more work. He recommended I not buy the coupon until he saw the truck. I drove down and he immediately attended to me. He showed me under the hood the extra parts needed to be removed. I agreed to have the work done. He said it would be 2 hrs and he told me of the shopping area I could walk around or the restaurants I could get a bite at. Then he also suggested a park which I agreed to. One of his mechanics Jesse drove me to the park. I had a chair, my book and I was good. Less than 2 hrs later I received a call the truck was ready. Jesse was back for me. Wonderfully surprised Elmer gave me a discount off the pricing. I will be back. Both gentlemen were just that, gentlemen. Very polite, attentive, accommodating and a pleasure to have met. I had a slow leak in my tire this summer. I took my car to American tire and Firestone, both who claim to fix a leak for free. After taking it to these two other locations, both claiming it was unfixable for various reasons, I brought it here. They charged me $29 to fix it and it's been over 4 months without any issues. I really appreciate the work they did, and all the money they saved me. One important mention is the car was brand new - fresh off the lot - with less than a thousand miles on it. My car broke down in traffic on Los Angeles St blocking traffic, I started to panic as a gentlemen who works at Elmer's called his shop where 4 of his men ran over to me pushing my car out of the middle of the street to his shop. I was worried that this was going to cost me so much I couldn't afford to repair my car. Elmer was so polite and told me don't worry will check your car and let you know up front if we can help you. 2 of his mechanics spent a hour diagnosing my car they determined all I needed was a new distributor cap and spark plug wires. Here i thought I was going to have to pay hundreds of dollars when it only cost me $250 to fix my car complete the price included the original diagnosis to. I would defiantly recommend Elmer auto repair shop. He was honest upfront no hidden charges didn't make me wait hours or days. Purchased a voucher from Groupon for an oil change. I received a call about 30 minutes after dropping my car off and Elmer told me I basically needed a whole new suspension, for around $1,600. Then I was charged a $100.00 diagnostic fee for a tire sensor light that was on. Wait, there's more! He wanted to charge me $160.00 for that new tire sensor. Then I found out that the other 3 sensors will be going on the fritz soon, as a result of a low tire sensor battery. I'm kind of surprised I'm able to make it home from work in that car! Stay away from this place. Be fair and honest..best business practice! read more

They broke parts on my vehicle and fixed them with glue, they lied about verifying what needed to be fixed on a check check engine light which my trusted (further away) mechanic said there was no way they verified it, after my mechanic looked into the issue it was something else all together and the parts Elmer wanted me to replace were in perfect condition dispite him telling me they checked them and they were fried. I would not let these people work on my bicycle. My wife took our car in to determine the source of a rattle. They said it wad a broken motor mount. Made an appointment to repair the motor mount, they called and said it wasn't the notor mount, but the turbo and it would cost me around $2500. First, motor mount was fine, secondly, so was the turbo, and it does not cost $2500 for a new turbo. The rattle stemmed from a broken weld on my fold air intake. I don't know who their mechsnic is, but they should fire him. Elmer is a good man, but a couple of his employees are not so fine. I gave King Tire a couple grand in tires, brakes and alignments. But no more after the twisted treatment we received. There ARE better auto repair shops other than King. read more

I went there to get my tire pressure sensor replaced. The sensor I gave them wasn't "responsive" so they put the old one that didn't work back in..once they were done, the other sensor went out and told me I should replace all of them.. (I didn't) I come back a month later cause my air is leaking out of one of my tires. The "owner" tells me it's because of the tire pressure sensor.. which makes no fucking sense to me but I went along with it. He put a stem in it and it's fine I suppose but still said I had to change my sensors soon. Skip to a couple more weeks, I take my car to a friends shop and going through what the real issue might be only to find out that there are 2 senors missing.. one where he said the sensor is what caused my tire leak and the other one in the back tire where he told me it went out. And just to add on. He insisted I change my tires because they were dull..they were fairly new and I saw no problem in the tires.. that's what I get for being naive and in a hurry. After he fed me that bullshit story. I watched him feed the same story to a woman while I was waiting for my tires.. The way this guy smiles when he takes ur money is something else.. Never trust the guy with the beady eyes Know your shit before you have them check anything out. Horrible fucking business. Just like most tire places. They will always try to up-sale you. Yesterday after a 12 hour shift noticed I had a popped tire and thought I wasn't gonna be able to make it back home to Palmdale due to all tire shops being closed and not having a spare on me. I would've given a 1-star but they were actually helpful and reliable until I got a horrible experience with them. This place used to be my mechanic shop but I've lost all trust now. So what happened to me that made me lose all trust? Short answer: they lied. Long answer: My car was reaching about 130k miles now and I thought it was a time for a tune-up just to make sure everything was doing well. My car was perfectly fine before I gave it to them for the tune-up btw. The tune-up was around $200 so it was already a little pricey but it's not like I'll be getting another tune-up for awhile so it didn't really matter. So I gave them my car and 1 or 2 hours later they called me saying there was a "problem". The "problem" was that 3 of my 4 ignition coils were not properly put in correctly. They said my car would not start because 3 of the ignition coils were damaged and could not be put back in. Remember that my car was perfectly fine before I took it to the shop. They also said that the labor and parts for 4 ignitions coils would be around $800 (they said 4 because they reasoned that having 3 new coils and 1 old coil is not recommended). I got extremely skeptical. $800?? It's like they wanted payday or something from my car. We went back to check my car and they showed us the inside of the coils where it was supposedly damaged (the inside of the coils did look a little damaged with small amounts of corrosion). But they said that my car would not be able to start unless I got new coils. There was no way in hell I was about to pay around $1k that day. We called their bluff. A family friend of ours was a mechanic who was willing to check it out for us. We took my car to our family friend ( we started my car using new coils from autozone that were about $200 which we planned to return). Our family friend put back in the old ignition coils and my car started. Emphasis on my car starting using the old coils. We returned the new coils to autozone to get our money back and now I still drive with my old coils perfectly fine (It's been 3 months now). They lied to us that the old coils would not start my car. Haven't been there ever since. They lost my service and trust. I would not recommend this mechanic anymore. read more
