The scene is a basic diner, but there is something very comforting about that to this Jersey girl. Upon walking in, my daughter was immediately taken by the display of cakes. The staff was all very lovely and took good care of us. My daughter got a hot dog, my husband eggs and bacon, and I got the pastrami burger. Everything was delicious, though the burger itself was immensely big! Next time, I'll know to share it! We couldn't leave without trying a piece of chocolate cake. My daughter was very happy with it, but my husband acknowledged that the bottom layer was very dry, but the rest of it was yummy. I don't think I have ever ordered a piece of cake from a diner before, so I'll take that as a rave review.

Could see the desert display looked amazing. Order the chicken madeira for dinner came out relatively quick food was hot. Taste was very good. It was heavy on the cheese but the mushrooms and sauce had great flavor. Chicken was cooked just right. Waiter was Amazing constantly checking making sure everything was done properly. Overall, pleasant experience would go back again.

I have the habit of moving my food around to check and there it was a long black hair. I felt bad for the waitress she was very nice. And she felt horrible about it. She could not stop saying I'm so sorry Now the lady that stands up front with the limp has always been so nice and this time she wasn't-- she was annoyed I complained about the hair. Just done with the diner will never go again - a man walks in with a dog in his man. It wasn't a service dog and she said nothing about it. When my husband brung it to her attention she was very rude. The place should be renovated. It's a mess. I can't imagine how it looks where they store the foods how it can look. The place is always full and they can't afford to fix the place.

Inside and out it has your typical diner feel. The menu is large with just about everything. The service and prices were what you would expect for a diner. The eggs were perfectly cooked soft and buttery. And the sour dough toast with that perfect sour dough tang was the perfect edition. Even the coffee in the French press takes the coffee to another level. But talking about Oak & Reed flair the signature waffle was possibly one of the best things I have eaten. The waffle with that pearl sugar is the way a waffle should be made but then they have that waffle filled with Dutch caramel and that mascarpone on top is perfect. The tang, sweetness, butteriness, the crisp yet fluffy waffle it all was an equation for an amazing breakfast item. I could eat that every time I go. Truly amazing. The staff in Oak & Reed is always amazing attentive and kind. Live the open kitchen concept. Especially with my two year old currently in a Ratatouille kick so she wanted to see the chefs while she looked for Remy cooking. All in all Oak & Reed never disappoints.

So I was excited when we finally got a chance to try it. And here is where it may have been my fault, maybe I hyped it up too much. So the funny thing when we arrived at the restaurant and I saw another friend. She told me it was her first time and it wasn't good (this was a warning!) she said especially the chicken and waffles. So again maybe it's my fault because I didn't listen. My heart was set on the chicken and waffles and she was right. It was not good. Like how do you mess up chicken and waffles? It was lacking all types of flavor. It was bad. Why 3 stars than? Because their Spicy Pork Congee was amazing! It's an Asian rice dish and everything that lacked flavor in the chicken and waffles was made up in this dish. The problem? This is only an appetizer. It needs to be an entree, which would mean making it a larger portion. It was fantastic! They also had a decent beer selection which we got. The inside of the restaurant is cute. It has so much potential I just think maybe a revamp of the recipes. But maybe another dish would be good. We came for brunch so I don't know how their dinner menu is. I will probably give them another chance because how amazing the congee was I know they have potential to be great.

It wasn't overly crowded, but I looked around I saw a lot of leftover food from the people who ate and left. Some came in waiting to served then left after being ignored or not noticed. First off It was as if the servers couldn't understand who was supposed to clean the tables? The Service was painfully slow, but it was morning so they may have had a lot of takeout orders or shorthanded? Most of the breakfast meals came with home fries and the three orders we had each of the fries were ice cold and eggs overcooked. Orders had arrived out of order and the simple things such as toast, which was part of the breakfast orders either came as we were finishing the meal or didn't come at all. I was looking forward to a good experience like I had the 1st time but me and my family were disappointed. At least the coffee was drinkable...but we had to work to get the server's attention each time we wanted a refill. They really need to do better....
