Coffee So I was craving breakfast for a few weeks from a diner. I quickly googled searched local diners in my area and then I came across Elsie. Located within the heart of Goshen, this local restaurant serves breakfast lunch and dinner. I knew what I wanted, i was immediately greeted professionally by the hostess/waitress. This place is the bomb. I've lived in California for over 40 years and was back in Goshen for a high school class reunion. Elsie's got great reviews and is owned by the sister of a classmate of mine, so we thought we'd try it for a late breakfast. The food was fantastic, speedy, and had fast service, and the place had an ambiance that was very much upstate New York. You don't see this in Northern California. We enjoyed our breakfast so much that we came back the following day! I definitely recommend the Greek Omelet. read more

new owners. Service is horrendous. was given a half cup of coffee. There were only 2 of us with simple orders. my food sat on the counter until it was cold, still didnt get our food at the same time. My wife got her food10 minutes after mine. I asked for a glass of water, asked again, then my wife asked, never got the water. food was lukewarm warm and mediocre at best. waitress was busy in the beginning but place emptied out, and still horrendous service. read more

Small place but the breakfast is very good. I had the Greek omelette which as a bonus had sausage in it. They have good french toast, a short stack available if you are not too hungry. Downside is the bathroom is behind the counter where they cook but that's unfortunate when you have a cramped space. read more

Escaped Legoland for breakfast. Elsie's didn't disappoint. Had an excellent Greek omelette. The feta was creamy and rich. The coffee was hot and delicious. If I'm in the area I will return. read more

A surprise. I was lured to Goshen by the sunflower cafe. Nice place but heavily Vegan / Vegetarian, with no real warning. Drove past just thinking about options & coffees & passed a cute little set of corner curtains and a bunch of parked cars. 7:00 am? Must be a breakfast place. The service, food & decor lived up to the tight adorable 22.5 deg corner. traditional bacon & eggs. But good traditional. As an aside there are 3 places to get breakfast in Goshen, sunflower is the only one that shows up in Yelp?????? read more

Looking for an alternative breakfast place than the diner (which is good) and stumbled upon Elsie's. Cute little place, good food, great service and made my alterations without hesitation. A small luncheonette \ diner on Main Street in Goshen. Right across the corner from the police department, they serve breakfast and lunch daily. We stopped in for breakfast on a recent Sunday. Inside is small, sort of a blast from the past (say 40 years ago). We sat ourselves at a small table. Service was quick and attentive. They have all your usual breakfast fare. Pancakes, French Toast, Bacon, Sausage, Eggs etc. We tried some of all the above. It was exactly as two Yelp stars describe... Meh! Most of the food tasted like whatever had been cooked on the grill previously. Pancakes were a little too thick. Home fries had an odd taste. We'll probably be trying other breakfast establishments in the future. Awesome location, we were hoping for much more. read more

I was looking for a place to meet an old friend that I hadn't seen in years and we were meeting for a late breakfast. Based on positive Yelp reviews, I selected Elsie's ! My friend was visiting Goshen's new Legoland and staying in the Goshen area. I easily found street parking and fell in love with Elsie's Luncheonette for its simple charm. I didn't want to pick a chain restaurant, I wanted to give my friend a feel for the area. Well this place was it! We were well cared for by a lovely server and the food was excellent! I ordered the one pancake (one was enough!!!!) with blueberries and a side of sausage links. It was all delicious, paired with a great cup of coffee. My friend got some eggs, potatoes, sausage etc and loved all of it. The place is small so it wouldn't be a good choice for a large party of people but it's perfect for a meet up with friends or a two family thing. I loved my time spent at Elsie's. Someone complained when I was there and they handled it wonderfully even though the customer was definitely wrong and ordered the wrong thing! Giving one star because I am a good sport and our last waitress was a sweetie & tried hard. Cooks and other staff look unfriendly & grumpy, though. Hubby and I tried coming back for breakfast as we like to support our community. Never again! Food is typical diner fare, just not as good; no selection/very boring/bland/frozen and prepared/small portions/no frills. What more is there to say. Now, for the atmosphere that others mentioned. Yes, it's a homey feel, but so homey you're on top of one another and feel like you're suffocating. I saved the best for last: NO PUBLIC RESTROOM!!! read more

We all love to eat and I, for one, enjoy walking into a restaurant and being suprised by everything from the ambiance and food to the bill! It's kinda like experimenting with wines hoping to find an amazing bottle at a reasonable price. Being a local to Goshen I'm posting a very personal review here. If you walk into Elsie's with a critc's eye and aspiring to post a clever review.....you've missed the point! Think Norman Rockwell, WWII era, cozy, nostalgia, comfort food, your mom's kitchen. Strike up a conversation....everybody is friendly. Try a Bacon Bob or a corn muffin toasted on the grill with butter and a good cup of coffee. The soups will warm you on a cold damp day. My favorite? Ham and eggwhite on a toasted bagel with a little mayo. Elsie's is my surprise bottle of wine...better than good and the bill will put a smile on your face....;) read more

Stopped in for breakfast with a 4 and 3 year old. Got 3 pancakes and corned beef hash. The waitress Offered 3 plates, 1 for each pancake, which was nice not to have to ask. Pancakes were big and fluffy, with a good taste. Corned Beef hash was very good. Not salty, nice distinct flavors. Not much to look at, but tables and floors were clean and clear. Let me begin by saying the food was pretty decent. I ordered the Elsie's omelet which had ham, peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese. My girlfriend had eggs over easy, hash browns, crispy bacon and toast. All of which were cooked to our liking and very enjoyable. On top of that, they were quick to get it to us. We maybe waited 5 minutes. Unfortunately, that is last good thing I have to say. We both ordered coffee. Neither of us were offered a refill. Out waitress brought our food to us and never gave us a second thought, not even a "how's it going over here." We were one of three tables and there were three servers on so it wasn't like they were busy and she forgot about us. I had to twice ask for orange juice and to top it off, neither of us were even HALF way through our plates when the check was dropped off. I was ready to stay and drink more coffee and order some more but that was it for me I guess. Breakfast is my favorite meal, and I live one street over from this restaurant but they really failed today for me. I'll give them a second try because I've worked in the restaurant industry for nine years now and know that sometimes you just have a bad day but I was very disappointed. read more

I really like this place! Nice and cozy in a little sleepy corner of town. Great place for lunch or breakfast. The food was above average, but I really like the service. Our waitress was so friendly and personable. We even chatted it up a bit while waiting for our lunch to be prepared. I suppose if you just want to be left alone while you eat, that's fine. But when I find these little hidden gems, it's the personal friendly touch that makes me like them. read more

The food was typical diner food. My friend and I ordered salads with chicken only to be told by the waitress that they only had one piece of chicken left. That's fine, I got the steak instead even though I'm convinced it was some kind of weird cut...maybe skirt steak? The oil and vinegar for the salads was so light in color, maybe they watered it down? Tiny little place, makes it seem cozy I guess. And now for the scary part....the bathroom. You walk through the cooks area....into a cellar. A cellar, not a basement. And you have to duck your head or you will hit it going down the stairs (which are a complete death trap) and possibly walking to the stall. It was so dirty and smelled horrible. I "washed" my hands instead in a tiny little sink in the cellar...no soap. I really don't know how this passed any sort of health code or building inspection. I avoided the cellar at my parents house so I'll be avoiding this place as well. read more
