Showed up before dinner opening and was greeted exactly at 5 and welcomed in. Server was attentive and friendly. Food was hot and delicious. Serving size is also really big. Both items we ordered could have fed a small family. We ended up bringing it home and the fries reheated really well in the air fryer. Would come back and would recommend going here

Bad service - we waited 30 minutes and our server was doing other things besides taking care of the table . We sat , got our drinks and waited - a 6 too came in- got their drinks then took their order right away. We sat some more and then asked to have our order taken the. A server was reminded and came over. The food was average , tons and I mean tons of cheese on the burrito bowl - I thought I had a cheese bowl. The street tacos were very oily. Drinks weak- bland iced tea like it was all water or from a mix, the lemonade was all sugar. Very interesting concepts. They need a de do - or an uno card to restart this business. Years ago - under another name - it was a very good place to eat- lively- friendly- now it's kinda - blah - just my opinion based on past good experiences.

First time customers here to Elvia Rita's and we will definitely be continuing customers! This casual and clean restaurant was perfect for us. I read the reviews before we came here and was expecting the service to be subpar but it was absolutely the opposite. The server was friendly and prompt and personable. Busy Wednesday night it seemed as the place was packed but food and drinks came quickly. Had Skinny Margaritas with chips and homemade salsa (which we bought extra salsa to take home it was the best!) I had a chicken tostada and it was a huge portion for al a carte! Delicious! Craig has the chicken verde wet burrito and devoured half as it was enormously huge! Prices were what you expect these days. Not low but not extremely high. I think my tostada was $16.

Elvia Rita's Mexican restaurant is in the heart of picturesque and fun Downtown Benicia. It's in a good location right on Main Street. Lunch was delicious and the service was great. The waiter was friendly and attentive. It's a good place to meet friends, family or that special someone.

Came to this restaurant with low expectations due to other yelp reviews, however I was pleasantly surprised! Our first waiter was very shy and forgot our drink order multiple times. He came back 3 times to ask us what our order was and then brought us the wrong drinks. After this we had a new waitress who apologized for the previous waiter and then continued to elevated our experience. As for the food I can say that it's the biggest portions I've ever seen!! The nachos were amazing and stacked with meat. Everyone left full and satisfied. Would highly recommend.

    lunch special chile verde

we were recommended this spot by a coworker who resides in benicia. he mentioned the Chile Verde was the best he had ever had - no contest. we went on a saturday morning after a hike and ordered Chicken Flautas, Beef toastada, street tacos (al pastor and chicken), quesadilla from the children menu and lunch special (green chile verde). waiting staff was prompt and super welcoming. dos equis black and pacifico, chips and salsa (salsa was a spicy and home made). great spot to relax on 1st St!

I came here with my grandma and aunt after a morning of running around... We had never been, it appeared to be open seating so we sat down... The waitress walked by us 3 times didn't make eye contact or acknowledge we were there. Two other people came in behind us and formed a line at the bar... apparently that's how you order. So we looked up the menu on my phone so that my aunt and grandma wouldn't have to go stand in line to read the menu. (Not really the most convenient) I went up and ordered the food for us.. Now I will say I waffled back and forth on 3 or 4 stars because the service was not good, but she was the only server. The reason I went with 4 stars is the taco I had was delicious! The chicken was juicy and full of flavor! I was pleasantly surprised at how good the taco was. The tea left a lot to be desired I would honestly bring in a bottle of water if I went back. When we were leaving we saw the sign on the ground that says order at the bar... I think that needs to be on the door or right when you walk in. All three of us missed it.

    Delicious chips and salsa

I love Elvia Rita's and always will! The food is always amazing and the staff is wonderful! They have an excellent selection of beers on tap too. The ambiance is nice and good vibes always

Unfortunately, the festival did not serve any liquor so we decided head down to the local bar before we enjoy the festival and all the food it had. We walked into the bar, and it felt like the establishment hasn't changed a bit. The ambiance is the dark speakeasy bar feeling. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a super nice bartender who made some delicious drinks! Back in the day there used to be brunch and a bigger food menu but they have stopped that. The buffet I guess was a waste and a lot of food didn't get eaten. They used to have a make your own Bloody Mary bar, but didn't see that either. The menu is on an IPad and it's nice to see the photos of what the every drink looks like. There is an assortment of drinks to choose from. This is one of the bars that actually knows how make drinks! We order a mixture of drinks, from the key lime pie martini, to the spicy jalapeño margaritas with the Tajin rim, to the delicious pear drink! These drinks were made with love! I would definitely recommend this place for drinks, during the evening they usually have a band playing. The only reason why it's not a 5 star is the old furniture... I used to love sitting on the sofas for a cozy feeling but they look pretty beat up now... just makes things look a bit dirty. I couldn't skip checking out Sailor Jack's, which used to be the Nantucket Fish Company, when I worked there in the mid 80's. The lunch menu offers some very different items than were offered four decades ago, but some items from those days are still featured today. (Items like clam chowder and fried prawns, for example.) Our server, Elizabeth, was great. She answered our questions and ensured we were happy with our food, at least as far as she could ensure... the food, however, was rather mediocre. We ordered a variety of food ranging from crab artichoke dip, to a chicken club, to fish and chips, to clam chowder, to a burger, and finally crab cakes. The starter, sandwich, fish and chips, and burger were all okay. The crab cakes however were not liked by those in our group that tasted them. (A lot of filler and not much crab from what one of our party members said). In any case, I mentioned this and the crab cakes, that went mostly uneaten, were removed from our bill. Bravo for good customer service! My understanding is that the outdoor dining that we very much enjoyed, was added during Covid. Back in the 80's the outdoor eating area was all parking lot. I took a look inside to see what else has changed. The main interior dining room looks almost identical to what it looked like 40+ years ago. The previous secondary indoor dining area has now been converted to a food preparation and employee only area. The bar itself looks the same as it did in 1984, but the area around the bar looks much more like dining space than it used to. This may be a good thing as attitudes on indulgences have certainly changed over the decades. I suspect at some point I'll return, hopefully it won't be decades...

I ordered the sea bass, my husband had the salmon, my sister had a salad, and her husband enjoyed the filet mignon. Every dish was delicious, but the sea bass deserves special recognition. As someone who orders sea bass whenever I can, I've had it in Pismo Beach, Monterey, and San Francisco, and Baxter's has set a new standard. It was incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a perfectly crisp sear that locked in all of its delicate flavor. Every bite was moist, flaky, and cooked to perfection. It was honestly the best sea bass I've ever had. The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Combined with the elegant atmosphere and classic white tablecloths, Baxter's was the perfect place to celebrate. We'll definitely be back!

If you're looking for the kind of dinner that makes you want to cancel your other weekend plans…read morejust so you can go back, Baxters is it. Tucked right on First Street across from the bay in downtown Benicia, this place has completely earned its reputation as the town's culinary crown jewel. From the moment you walk in, the warmth is unmistakable -- and it's not an accident. Owners Kenneth Coker and Kevin Shaw built this restaurant to feel like their own living room, and it shows in every detail, right down to the name (a sweet nod to their beloved Fox Terrier). That personal touch translates into genuinely attentive service that never feels stiff or rehearsed. Now, the food. The Beef Wellington is the stuff of legend -- perfectly rendered pastry, a filling that melts before you even chew, and clearly a labor of love from the kitchen. The scallops are seared to that impossible perfection where the outside caramelizes but the inside stays buttery-soft. And if salmon gnocchi in vodka sauce is on the menu when you go, order it without hesitation -- it's rich, comforting, and impossible to stop eating. Even the truffle burger, which almost feels like an afterthought on a menu this elevated, has become a neighborhood obsession for good reason. Cocktails are crafted with the same care as the food -- inventive, well-balanced, and clearly the product of a team that takes its bar program seriously. And if you can snag a reservation in The Speakeasy, the intimate back room, do it. It's easily one of the most romantic, memorable settings for a special occasion in the entire Bay Area. Baxters isn't just a great restaurant -- it's a genuine gathering place, the kind of spot a whole town falls in love with. Whether it's date night, a family celebration, or just a nightcap at the bar, Baxters delivers an experience that's warm, delicious, and utterly memorable every single time. Highly, highly recommended.
