I fail to ask understand the negative reviews. We stopped going to Mac's because by the time we got our cones, the ice cream was dripping down our hands. Also, I do not see a difference in price between these two places. And it's buggy on the beach there as well. Last night was our first visit to The Nice Cream. I had a double scoop of Deep Purple (black raspberry with chocolate chips) and the Hubs had a coffee ice cream that I believe had ribbons of fudge going through it. We LOVED both. The ice cream was firm and delicious. No melting! The kids manning the booth were polite and cheerful. Only drawback was the mosquitos. (Also why we don't eat outside at The Pearl). I think what we may do is go for cups instead of cones next time and bring them home (luckily only a couple of miles away). Go to PJ's for dinner, but go here for the ice cream. read more

Cheapest ice cream on the menu is $7. Thats crazy. Ice cream has no taste to it & the pistachio ice cream is brown? Pistachio is green.. looked like coffee ice cream & tasted like vanilla. Staff is super rude. Make the 2 minute drive to the pier for Mac's Ice cream or 3 minutes for Pj's, better tasting & better prices! Might've been better if I hadn't had the cash (Cash only). We would've had to go somewhere else. But hard to find vegan ice cream. No mosquitoes and we enjoyed eating outside. Surprisingly bad, tasteless, bland ice cream. Black raspberry tasted like nothing (although it was purple!), was supposed to have dark and white chocolate chips in it, saw none of the white. Chocolate frappe was actually gross (how? How does one mess that up?) - bitter and overly milky. They were so friendly, and skilled at making frappes. I got a vanilla malted frappe, and my family got different ice creams. My frappe was amazing! Perfect consistency, and amount of malted goodness. Buy a few Thermacell mosquito repellers and keep them on and loaded. On our annual "vacation ice cream tour" in the Cape, we always try at least 1 or 2 places we haven't been to before, and A Nice Cream Stop (although Yelp labels it as "Emack and Bolio's," which I assume is because it's owned by the place with the same name in Orleans) was on this year's list. The good: staff is very friendly! Cozy outside sitting area and the town is a nice place to walk and enjoy the ice cream. The bad: Extremely disappointed in the ice cream itself. I bought Cookie Dough and immediately noticed that it was bland. Very, very bland. The dough and chocolate chips were fine, but the ice cream tasted milky, not creamy and definitely not rich. At $7 for a *small* cone (!) - which was far higher than any other place we'd visited - it was a disappointment overall. To see if I was crazy, I immediately went down to Mac's on the Pier and tried a sample of the same flavor. The difference was immediate - THAT was excellent ice cream. The burst of flavor from even the small sample said it all. And - Mac's was $2 less, which is much more in line with competitors. (But really, there was no competition.) In reading other reviews, it appears that comments about bland vanilla-based ice creams are not uncommon, and the same for how freakin' expensive the stuff is. Gave an extra star because the staff was nice, but this is really all about the ice cream, right? No question that we will not return. read more

We hadn't had Emack and Bolio's ice cream since we were in Hong Kong years ago, but this cute shop in Wellfleet did not disappoint. The line flowed quickly, the flavors were excellent (the peach and blueberry crumble were tasty!) The price is steep - especially the waffle cone add-on - expect to pay as much for a single scoop as you might a sundae elsewhere, but the generous lawn to sit and eat was worth it for a Saturday night treat. One note - the workers here are high school and college students who might not feel comfortable asking patrons to put on a mask - we were behind a family who outright refused and were still served - everyone just readjusted backwards in line. read more

Pretty good ice cream. I believe this place was once independent ("A Nice Cream Place") but it doesn't seem to have suffered from becoming an E&B franchise. Nice selection, EXCELLENT prices (just $5 for a thick frappe), and the generous kind of portions you should expect in New England ice cream joints. Slightly surly teenage employees. I think this place is actually called "A Nice Cream Stop" ...and that it is. We come here almost every night for dessert while on vacation. Try the Wellfleet Mix or the Junior Mint, or my new personal fave - Caramel and Moose tracks. Also a good selection of frozen yogurts for those who prefer it. This is a little place which serves Emack and Bolio's ice cream and is tucked behind the candy store. It was a great place to go with the kids after lunch at one of charming Wellfleet's restaurants. It has a shingle outside which reads "Nice Cream Place," downplaying the Emack & Bolio's connection for some reason. Ice cream was fine. But they do not accept credit cards, which I find anti-consumer and frankly suspicious in this day and age, they do not offer a kiddie size (a bit self-defeating in our case, as we just split a small for the twins), and they can't possibly mix two flavors for you in their smaller size (I decided I didn't really want any ice cream). I used to visit this place as a child so I was eager to come back. The ice cream was good. I had the peanut butter Oreo with peanut butter sauce, whipped cream, and sprinkles. It was very fresh. My child had a brownie sundae with cookie dough ice cream. The brownie was delicious! I know this is an ice cream shop but I was disappointed in the lack of nondairy flavors. I had researched this place online before my trip since my youngest can't have dairy. They make several nondairy flavors but only had one flavor available. She chose not to get anything which took some of my enjoyment away. Next time I would call in advance to determine which nondairy flavors would be available. There are several places in Orleans that have lots of nondairy options that are just a short drive away. If everyone in my party could enjoy regular ice cream then I would definitely come back to this shop. read more

While the ice cream is typically fantastic, I've never received such terrible rude service from a local business. On both Saturday and Monday this week, my entire family has arrived at Emack & Bolio's ready to spend well over $100 on a dessert. Unfortunately, although we were in line before closing time (9:30 PM), the windows were shut in our faces at exactly 9:30 while we were about to order. As a chef in a kitchen myself, I understand the need for closing hours. The woman at the ice cream counter was so sour and rude, snarky and aggressive, it simply boggles the mind to consider such poor service was provided to paying customers that were in line before closing time. Would not have bothered to write a review if this hadn't happened BOTH times we visited this trip. I am currently at the Shell station buying a pint of Ben & Jerry's, and will continue to do so rather than continuing to try and waste money on a local business that does not care about their clientele. read more
