I had high anxiety about this complex dental procedure and afraid of the pain however my endodontist did the procedure and I did not feel a thing. Referred to this office by my dentist. i just had a root canal on my upper back left last molar and i did not see dr. Bassali, he no longer is there but 1 day Aweek now in his practice. saw his associate a dr. lee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]the day before had problems with their young woman who handles the insurance coverages, and she was not pleasant. i tried to clear the air when i went back for my procedure but she was unkind and said i do not want to have any conversation with you. unprofessional to say the least!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] she thought to just assert herself and not make a diligent extra effort to recheck my inusrance when anthem told me everything was covered. i told this office lady 2 times that anthem said its all covered, she would not help and be polite, she was kinda arrigant about it and the experience of 7 years doing this. it took me, the patient to get the problem solved. she could have taken and extra 460.00 from me if i was not on top of things. they just don't care. then the procedure itself started off ok then it go worse. over 2 hours of uncomfortable and the dentist never spoke to say its coming along ok and almost be done, nothing positive, just silent and chewing gum while working on me. then after all was done, i felt like they are onto the next paitent. then i come to find out she burned my inner back gum line and i was smelling buring taste in my mouth during the proceddure and wondered, she should have said that the inner back gum has trauma to it but it should be fine after it heals. nothing, i had to get home and wait till i was able to use a dental mirror to see what she had caused to my gum. only saving grace , my general dentist office of dr. raffi barsam is the best, his office personell are so polite and kind and helpful. if i find i have developed any serious problem from this root canal becaue of how they were with me, i will get legal consultation on them. oh, and the dentist also threw in oh you might need a root canal on your molar before the one i will be working on. when ive have never had my general dentist tell me that molar is showing signs of a problem. so yeah, money thing it made me feel like. i could have backed out and suffered till i got into another dentist for this type of procedure but i would of most likely had addtional out of pocket exspense since i had already started with that office, having a ct scan and consolut. so, i stuck it out since i am on a fixed income and my insurance said all was coverd and then it will all be used up afterwards but the complettion of this root canal.going forward i hope i heal up fine and my general dentis t i see on the 12th will tell me all is ok. i do not recommend this dr, bassali practice after this ordeal. tho they are still responsible till i heal up correctly. read more

I have been to many specialist that want to just perform a surgery right away, I visited Dr Anderson at the recommendation of my dentist, and was in pain , he diagnosed and determined no further work was needed. They adjusted my new crown and the pain went away. Their front office staff were amazing and friendly and Dr Anderson was patient and explained everything and made me feel very comfortable. People need to be informed of what actually is going on with a root canal. It's an infection in the nerves in root of the tooth that the doctor attempts to get rid of. The fact is there is no way to get rid of the infection 100% and that is why root canals fail. That's why it's not uncommon to have them redone. You are living with an infection inside your tooth. Some people may tell you once the root canal is performed it is gone. I can guarantee it is not. There will always be trace bacteria in the nerves and root of that tooth. This is the exact reason I told my primary dentist just to pull it and I'll do implants. Plus the fact that they charge $1800 for a root canal you're pretty much half way there anyway and the implant will last allot longer than any $1800 root canal. My root canal lasted less than two weeks before it became sensitive again. Do you honestly think I am going to dish out another $1800 for another root canal. In my opinion, just get the implant. You'll be money ahead and you won't be living with an infection in your tooth even after a root canal is performed. Do your own research. Don't take my word for it. People with root canals get sick more often. The health of your teeth directly correlates to the health of your body. For me I wasted $1800, when I already knew better. I tried to explain it to my DDS before I was sent over to get bent over and screwed on a root canal that now needs to be pulled, because I'm not going to keep getting it redone at $1800 a pop. The reason for the 5* you ask? It's not my place to pass judgment. Karma will be the equalizer. If there is retribution that is needed, the powers that be will hand out the disciplinary actions. Please people do your home work on root canals. They're just sealing up the inflection in the root of your tooth. You will have health issues with root canals. I'm very thankful to all of them and, appropriately, I'm writing this review on Thanksgiving Day, just days after our paths crossed. The day after visiting my regular dentist to discuss molar pain and being recommended a root canal, the tooth was hurting so badly I could not sleep at all. I had never experienced such dental pain. I left a voice message for my regular dentist at 5 a.m. and hours later he diligently recommended I get the root canal at once. It was a Friday morning and my dentist stressed the pain would only get worse. I have a high tolerance for pain but my ears perked when he stated emphatically that given my symptoms I "would not make it through the weekend." My dentist graciously provided me with multiple recommendations for endodontists. I called about half a dozen endodontists but no one had a same-day opening. Rocio at Dr. Bassali's moved mountains and kindly made room for me. Her front office colleagues Amelia and Denise made my visit pleasant by explaining procedures and getting me ready for my visit with Dr. Oganesyan. They both showed great empathy. Dr. Oganesyan, aided by his right-hand assistant, Pascual, took expert care of me. My root canal procedure went well and days later, I'm feeling much better. Although the repaired tooth does not feel normal yet and there is discomfort, significantly, the throbbing and shooting pain are gone. I look forward to a full recovery. Incredibly rude office staff. Debbie continuously interrupted me, didn't have any patience of consideration. Total lack of compassionate care. I made an appointment and requested the amount it would cost for consultation, not the actual work that would be done. That would come after consultation. But I have never had a place not want to tell me price of consultation up front, and they said a lady would call me back to go over financials. I was fine with that, but no one called. When I called Debbie explained the girl who should of called was sick, then proceeded to rush me and cut me off. I ended up saying that's not ok to be treated this way, hung up and called my referring dentist to go over my experience and ask for another referral. This place needs to treat their customers with respect, follow up on call backs, and not be rude to their customers the way they treated me was not ok. Lost a customer. read more

I recently woke up with an excruciating toothache and called around and was referred to this office. I told them what was going on and they told me to come in right away and they would try and fit me in. After hearing the receptionists schedule others for a couple days later, they assured me that they knew the severity of my pain I had my root canal that day! Speaking of the receptionists... they are the absolute best! In the wait time between my evaluation and my actual root canal, they could tell I was pretty nervous and they got me a vitamin water and when my blood sugar got low, they gave me a candy bar! My husband had a terrible experience at Dr. Bassali's office. Starting off with the visit, they charged him an additional $125 for an unnecessary x-ray. He just left his other dentist's office with an X-ray that was provided to the office. They said they needed to take another one and he overheard a conversation in the waiting room between another patient who they said her X-ray was not able to be opened on their computer and were going to charge her as well. My husband had the procedure done and the doctor would not give any pain medication and my husband was told to take 2 Tylenol and 2 Advil. After two hours, the anesthesia was wearing off and he was in excruciating pain!!! My father was a dentist and never heard of sending patients home after a root canal without pain meds. There was an infection in his mouth and the pain was so bad it was going up to his ears and eyes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My husband called the office and spoke with someone at the front desk who stated that the dentist does not give pain medication!!! He left a message with the front office for the doctor to call him back and he never received a call.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were forced to go to our daughter in laws house who had just had surgery for her pain pills. This was totally unacceptable!!! My husband would have ended up in the ER had my daughter in law not had the pain pills. The front office said the dentist writes less than 100 prescriptions a year which makes complete sense that they would send my husband home with no prescription. This was a terrible experience and he will never return!!! Please be aware that this is the practice of the dentist and I highly urge you to do your homework. I don't write a lot of Yelp reviews, so when I do, believe me. A little background before I get to Dr. Bassali... My dentist, whom I love, referred me to an endodontist in West Covina (since that is the area where my dentist is) because he thought I may need a root canal. I show up for my appointment... and from start to finish (which only lasted about 10 min)... the experience was AWFUL. I forgot my referral slip (which I wasn't told I needed to bring) and they looked at me like I was a crazy person. And instead of trying to help me... they basically told me to F off (in so many words). I call my dentist and ask them to fax over the referral. They do. And we come to find out, that my dentist is actually not my PCP anymore, and that this endodontist cant take the referral because its invalid. I get that it's not their issue. But they basically "NEXT"ed me and tried to shoo me away- while also not even paying attention to me. It's already difficult enough dealing with the American insurance system. And to be in pain on top of that. And to have to maybe get a procedure. You want help and a bit of empathy. None of which I received. I left feeling super defeated, vulnerable, and annoyed that now I have to go through all of this again. Once I squared away my insurance drama. I knew I would never be going back to that office again. So I started to do research on endodontists in my area (Studio City). I came across Dr. Bassali's reviews... seemed good enough for me. Called to tell them my situation and whoever was the one who answered the phone COULD NOT BE MORE NICE. *Immediately* I felt like they were treating me as a person, not an HMO reject, and that they were there to help. I spoke with them a couple more times. Each time just as pleasant as the first. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same person. They were all lovely. Finally went in today. And in-person was no exception. Even better! They make you feel so welcomed and at home and at ease. The office is super nice too! I didn't end up seeing Dr. Bassali. I didn't catch the name of the lady Dr. who did see me; but she, and the tech, were both amazing. And the conclusion? I didn't need the root canal. They are honest. Upfront. And could have easily tried to take my money. But they didn't. And they put me in such a good mood that I have to let everyone else know how amazing they are. 80 reviews for an endodontist seemed strange (seeing as all the others hovered around 30, tops), but it all makes sense now. I love my dentist. I have been going to them for almost 10 years (and out of my way to see them for 4- I'm dedicated!). But if Dr. Bassali's office had a dentist as well (I asked, they don't) I would have switched in a heartbeat. There are truly no words that I can describe my experience at Dr. Bassalis office. Between the staff, environment, the actual doctor, his assistant and everyone, I felt so comfortable , especially because this is a big procedure. My dentist (Dr. Borna) referred me to Dr. Bassali to see if I needed a root canal or extraction. On 5/8 I saw Dr. Bassali and he determined we should wait as it wasn't showing up as an immediate threat. I was happy he was honest and didn't talk me into unnecessary treatment. On 7/24, I was experiencing pain in that same area... The next day I went to my original Dentist and she sent me back to Dr. Bassli (same day!) and Pasqual took X-rays and it was time to face the music... I was asked to come back after I had had lunch and taken some Motrin and antibiotics. From the moment I reached out to make an appointment the office team was very empathetic to all my concerns. When I arrived to the appointment , I could feel my anxiety at a 10. I met Pascual for pre procedure X-rays and he was very comforting. When I met Dr. Bassali I shared all my fears and once again was comforted by his understanding and accommodations. I have bridge where a tooth underneath went dead after having the bridge for nearly 20 years. It went crazy on a weekend , of course. My regular dentist Dr Sheldon looked at it and figured it needed a root canal so he sent the xray to Dr Bassali who said it needs a root canal. The bill for Dr Sheldon's 314 that day (he did a cleaning an examination, and the bridge was elevated from the infection so he ground it down a bit and a few xrays ) No complaints. Dr Sheldon is an awesome dentist. So I get to Dr Bassali just down the street, the consultation is $125, the procedure $1300. I explain my dental insurance ran out like many Americans it's impossible to get union hours in the republican gulag I live so she applies the $125 consultation to the bill and so I only owe $1175. Nice. He was behind the day of the root canal so they called me an1/2 hour before and pushed my appointment back . a half hour. The procedure itself is perfect, his root canals completely painless and fast but here is the surprise you get at the end. Before he rushes off to do another root canal he says now you have to go to your regular dentist and have him fill the hole he made in the bridge ($225 on average). Now you have to go call your dentist and hope he has some time to finish Dr Bassali's job. Dr Bassali did a great job overall and his staff is great , if I have one criticism it will be that it was that I did not know what he was going to do , and what I would be required to do. Had I known i would have scheduled my having to run to my regular dentist right after. I know, why would I not want to be going to appointments all week?! Was referred to Dr. Bassali by Dr. Dixit from studio city dental group (awesome dentist). I was super nervous to get a root canal, but from the start I was comforted. From the appointment phone call with the receptionist to the reminder phone calls to the procedure itself, I felt at ease. Everyone in the office was extremely nice and Dr. Bassali himself was amazing. There's a PowerPoint shown while you wait which I thought was genius!! Gives you info on what the procedure will look like, prevention tips for future, and possible side effects. I just finished a retreatment of an old root canal. I was so pleased from start to finish. I was referred to him by my periodontist and was so happy Dr. Bassali took my insurance (United Concordia). He was very thorough during the consult. I opted for out-of-pocket CT scan and was glad I did since that made it conclusive for the Dr. that he could retreat the area. The procedure was done in 2 visits, about 2.5 hours all together. There was NO pain, whatsoever, from Novocain to procedure to aftermath. He did such a wonderful and careful job, I don't need to replace the crown. Someone wrote he doesn't talk a lot during the procedure, but before and after he will explain everything in detail and point out what was done through x-rays. I hope not to have to go to him again, but I wouldn't hesitate at all, if needed. Such a lovely demeanor and bed-side manner. I was at the office 3 times, (1 for the consult and 2 for the procedure). What a fantastic board certified endodontist! Spring 2020, I developed an infection in upper front capped tooth. I went on/off antibiotics for 6 weeks. I'd finish the course and within a week the infection returned. Dr. Bassali did a 360° xray which showed infection in both front, capped, root canals & a HOLE in my jawbone due to the infection! I was freaked out. I raised the $ for the new procedure; incision above gums vs. drilling through the crowns. It didn't hurt, took an hour, including a bone graft to cover the hole, stitches in gums, 2 weeks double dose antibiotics. 1 week checkup to remove stitches, 6 weeks check up, just had my 10th month checkup bc I was afraid of Covid at 6 months. Disappointed . Was referred to Dr. Bassali by Dr. Dixit from studio city dental group a second time for a root canal. My first root canal went rather well and I was pleased. The second root canal, I was rather angry and outraged by his behavior because, after fixing my root canal, he subjected me to countless amount of X-rays which made me extremely uncomfortable and I still do not understand why he subjected me to countless X-rays. I did report this to Dr. Dixit and I haven't heard back. read more
