I appreciate the years of consistent dental work I have received from Embarcadero 2 especially from Dr. Harris! Today I came in for a schedule booked for a filling that was chipped when I ate a popcorn kernel. I appreciate front desk Eddy helping me set up my appointment and also ensuring my insurance would cover the following year with premier vs the ppo. I checked in with April and she informed me that they are now using a QR code vs sign up seat with a pen. Also can use their iPad which is helpful! Always feels like seeing family here with the hospitable, cheerful, vibes and welcoming from Mita at front desk too ! :) I got checked in and was able to sit down a little earlier thanks to Patricia for bringing me in and starting the refreshing polish and xray. I am honored and privileged to have had Dr. Harris work his perfected craftsmanship with his gentleness in drilling and filling my tooth back to use! I have extreme dental anxiety and neglect so when moving to a new city I was really scared to find a new dentist. I saw online that they work with other patients with dental anxiety and decided to give it a go. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The spot was a little tricky to find at first, but it was totally worth it once I got there. Dr. Francis Delos Reyes is awesome! He was incredibly gentle during my cleaning, which I really appreciate since I usually leave the dentist with some soreness, but not this time. The whitening coating they applied also left my smile noticeably brighter. Dr. Francis Delos Reyes has a calm and friendly presence that makes you feel comfortable right away. Dr. Harris and his lovely assistants are the reason I have been going to Embarcadero Dentistry for almost 10 years now, despite living on the peninsula I know finding a more capable dentist would be next to impossible, so taking the trip to SF is more than worth it. This review is with regard to Pil Han. With the assistance of his pushy, abrasive assistant Mita, he sold me on Invisalign in regard to a minor collision I had on a front tooth while eating popcorn. I was hesitant but ended up agreeing to a minor adjustment of only the front teeth to be done in a short timeframe-I clearly and repeatedly emphasized doing a minimally invasive, very limited adjustment. Dr. Han was very obscure about his treatment plan and I felt his communications were manipulative. I asked to meet him for better explanation he simply said not to worry (his favorite phrase), he was moving my teeth very little. I said I didn't want to do it since the treatment was unclear and it appeared that all my teeth would be moved and asked if I could get a partial repayment and a night guard instead-- he said it was "too late." As treatment progressed, I felt he was painfully and rapidly (in the shortened timeframe) rearranging all my teeth and my bite and the set of my jaw. He disregarded all of my concerns during treatment until I became enraged and loud enough for others to hear. I ended up with additional trays and 3 attempts at retainers. The retainer caused pain in my jaw and face which made sleep difficult and also eventually killed the papilla on the back side of my top and bottom front teeth (currently, a big problem). At our last meeting, he said I was to meet with the office manager. Without my ever asking for it, I was told they would repay the portion I contributed and was asked to sign a waiver of liability (my full ortho benefit gone for good however). Then they dropped me from their practice. Pil Han said I should go to an oral surgeon. I have sought the opinion of orthodontists and periodontists. I was advised to stop wearing the retainer (which resolved my jaw/face pain). I now have recessed gums and "black triangles" requiring gum grafts. I had very good teeth and very little dental work my whole life. Invisalign was truly unnecessary for the small issue I had and doing nothing would have been a much better solution. It seemed to me that Dr. Han was very eager to do an Invisalign and that I was foolish to be upsold mostly for his benefit. My past experiences with dentists had always been good so I did not use the degree of caution that was needed. Buyer be ware because the dentist is a sales person. read more

I used to absolutely dread dental checkups...but since switching to Dr. Harris, I actually look forward to them! Everyone is so kind and responsive, and they take great care of me. I swear that this is the ONLY practice that has offered adequate nitrous levels to evaporate my significant dental anxiety, which makes visits a pleasure. I went to Dr. Prabhakar to get a filling replaced. During the appointment she identified a few other areas of potential concern, and since I was new to the area and looking for a new dentist, I figured why not stick with Dr. Prabhakar. Not only was the original replacement filling jagged and uneven, but she also left a large space between the new filling and my adjacent tooth. I came back another day to get this fixed, but even after her redoing the filling I am still left with jagged edges and a large space between my teeth. I ended up going back to my original dentist when I returned to my former place of residence, and the only way to smooth up the filling that Dr. Prabhakar had put in is to replace the tooth with a crown. In addition the "problem areas" that she identified were being watched by my previous dentist and it was not necessary to fill them. I am also having issues with those uneven and shoddily done fillings, and will need an additional crown on one of these teeth as well. I would absolutely NOT recommend Dr. Prabhakar. I wish I had seen these reviews before I trusted her with my dental care. read more

I've been going here for almost 10 years now. I have significant anxiety when it comes to dental work and needles so I did a good amount of research before picking Dr. Harris, DDS. Over the years he has been great. Patient, calming, dad jokes and as gentle as you can be. I'd give him at least 4-5 stars. I've also been to Dr. Carr here when I had my wisdom teeth removed and he was great as well. The one star rating is for what most of the one star ratings are for, their billing department and receptionists. When I had my wisdom teeth removed I was over billed and had to deal with their absolutely garbage outsourced company to get it taken care of. Even then I didn't give them a bad rating because the Doctors have always been good. Then I had another bad appointment (during the covid-19 pandemic - great timing.. thanks teeth. I've been dealing with a mild dental infection due to a tooth that needs to be removed for a couple of weeks. Dr. Harris prescribed antibiotics for 2 weeks because I did not want to have the tooth pulled without being knocked out and their surgeon was out of office due to covid. When their office opened fully (May 5th) they said their surgeon was back and I scheduled an appointment to have the tooth removed and an implant put in. When they called to confirm my appointment I specifically asked "So we're all set with an anesthesiologist and I'll be knocked out?" - me "Sure will!" - Receptionist "Ok, aside from x-rays they can do everything once I'm knocked out, right?" *laughing* Yes, ma'am - you won't feel a thing!" - Receptionist So my significant other rents a car, we go in, I look at the estimate when I'm asked to sign paperwork and it is much much lower than what I was quoted on the phone. I inquire and they'd just booked the extraction and possible bone graft. I ask about the implant and they say that "might" happen today... then I ask about the anesthesiologist and they look confused. "What anesthesiologist?" I tell them that I confirmed on the phone that I would be knocked out, that this would be done today and that there would be an anesthesiologist. This woman basically tells me that I am either confused or just wrong and that this was never said. I ended up leaving of course. Got another prescription for antibiotics - my 3rd round and will be looking for a new dentist I guess. They didn't even bother to call to follow up. I've been a patient and customer for 10 years and this is their level of treatment. To top it off, when I got home my roommate was like.. "um there was no miscommunication on your part because I overheard that phone call and you specifically asked twice!" So now I have to find treatment elsewhere during a pandemic. I would not recommend this office to anyone and it's sad because the dentists there are quite good. read more

I made an appointment for teeth cleaning with a coworker of mine at the time before our dental policy being terminated due to work status changed caused by the pandemic. It was one of the few offices that was still opened with many dentists available during the early stage of pandemic which was a plus to us. Since it was the first time for me to be there, I was told that x-rays were needed. I was then diagnosed to get deep cleaning done. (The dentist didn't do any probing). There it was my first visit. I paid some sort of copay at the end of the appointment and made future appointment. Because they understood that I needed to get the procedure done before the end date of my insurance, they were able to schedule me with another dentist, which I appreciated. My Scale and root planning, aka, deep cleaning was done by Dr. Han. He was very nice and gentle. He made the impossible happened, getting all 4 quadrants done within one appointment. He saw my front tooth that was discolored due to root canal treatment. He suggested to get crown done. By the end of my appointment, I paid my copay for the SRP. Because of the fee and the appointment availability, I didn't make any further appointment for the crown. Please be aware that most of the ladies at the front office were not friendly. Some would even give you a mean look. I was glad that the one lady that helped me was nice. A month later, I received an invoice from this dental office about the full amount that I own for the SRP treatment. I contacted the office. They referred me to their billing department, which was unreachable. I did my part to contact my insurance at that time. I was told they didn't receive any claim. Therefore, I left a message for their billing department about what I learn from the insurance company. I didn't hear from the billing department at all. This is still ongoing. I may not know anything about insurance at the time of service. After handling insurances in a dental office for about a year, I can say that the billing department is terrible. I will not recommend this dental office to anyone because of the service at the front, the frustrating due to the irresponsible billing department. Even they are in network with certain insurance companies, please avoid going to this office. read more

I had a billing issue from care that I had received, so I emailed and called the billing department several times. No response on emails at all. Upon calling, was told they'd look into it and call back but never did. I eventually paid to not deal with them anymore, and to avoid potential complications with collections. I had a procedure and put the crown at this place a few years ago. I had two procedures with the same tooth. First the dentist couldn't get all the way through so he sent me to another place to get it done. Then he put the crown and I thought my nightmare was about to end but it wasn't. Only two weeks after putting it, it went off. I was so upset cuz I had gone through a lots of pain for this. I went back to this place, he fixed it. Again, the day before yesterday, the crown came off!!! while I was eating my dinner. Lucky me that I didn't swallow it. On top off that, after I received the bills, I ended up paid $3,000 out of pocket even I had a premium dental insurance. I am not really happy and never be happy with this place. I strongly suggest you find another place for your dental place. However, if you don't mind they overcharge you and may not do a great job, this is may be a right place for you. She's always been honest about what my options are and never tried to pressure or scare me into costly procedures. I've never needed more than a cleaning with her though so I can't speak to more than that. I rarely write reviews, but gotta say my experience with the team here (shout to Dr. Wang specifically). Had a filling pop out after flossing one night. Called the morning after to see if I could book an appointment and the receptionist was super friendly and IMMEDIATELY got me in like it was mission critical (even followed up to see if I was still coming). As soon as I got in they had the paperwork ready to fill out, let me know how much it'd be, and got me into a seat with Dr. Wang. The filling was quick and as painless as possible, didn't even need numbing. Can't say enough how great of an experience it was and I usually dread going to the dentist. This is the review for the receptionist. They charged me $100 (post insurance) for my fillings before the appointment. So I did. During the appointment, the doctor did other procedure that is more urgent(and also by my request) and we decided to do fillings next time. Post the appointment, the receptionist gives me a $600 bill, I asked if I can deduct my $100 that is previously billed but not done this time. And they are not able to find when I paid the $100! And they can't explain what I paid the $100 for! I asked for a breakdown of the $600 - what item they are for, what is the fee for each and what is insurance coverage. They treated me like I'm stupid! They don't know what the insurance is covering and they think I'm annoying to ask the questions! One receptionist pushed me to another one. And the other keeps complaining to the third person that "she is still there"(loud and in front of me)!! All i was doing is trying to figure out my fee breakdown. They could not explain, had no idea what they did and got annoyed by the customer asking. The management really should do something with their admin department as all yelp reviews suggested. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Harris for years now and he has always been honest with me. I'm a big baby and yes I will scream when it hurts. Easy resolution, gas me up! It helps that he tells funny stories too. Just got my xrays and teeth cleaning today, no cavities!! Oh and just a note, I used to use the sonicare toothbrush and was getting cavities. Dr. Harris told me to switch to the Braun with the circle head, I finally did without telling him and it worked! What a waste of money with the sonicare! read more

Love my dentist, questions on reception I'm one of those folks who have a lifelong fear of dentists (due to some really terrible, literally scarring experiences with dentists / oral surgeons) so I dreaded setting up an appointment. A colleague of mine had recommended this practice since it is close to work (in Embarcadero) and they are open later than other practices (I was able to schedule my appointment at 5/5:30). She recommended Dr. Han and am very glad she did. Dr. Han is very friendly and reassuring, which is awesome for us dentist-phobic folks. He understood early on my traumatic experiences with dentists and so went out of his way to reassure me throughout the appointments. He can make you laugh and when you need to get down to business, he walked me through the whole process / explained what he was doing to calm me down. He did this for both my cleaning and filling appointments. He was also good at explaining different options / costs whenever it applied. Have never had a great dentist experience as I did with Dr. Han. My one complaint about this place is reception- for some reason it takes a while to get things done if you ask them for something other than an appointment. For example, I was sent to their voicemail when I called to get an invoice / had a question toward my FSA; I left a message and call-back number but never heard from them! I therefore asked them in person at my next appointment and was told it would be sent to me by the next day and it took them a few days to do so. Not sure if there is a reason for the slightly slow response in the back-end that us customers don't know about. Note that it is better to call the office rather than email them for an appointment- I had originally filled out a form online but then got a failed delivery message, apparently b/c the form was linked to an email that didn't exist anymore. All in all... so happy to have found Dr. Han! Just hope reception / back-end problems can fix whatever lack of communication/ problems they have quickly. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but I have to let others know about my frustration. I went in and saw Dr. Prabhakar, and had to have a root canal. I was still in pain after that root canal (it was a different tooth) and my concerns were completely ignored, and she kept saying you shouldn't be in pain if the nerve is dead. It turns out, after I went to go see a different dentist, I needed a crown put on the other tooth. When I went in to get a crown put on after the root canal, I expressed concern over an inflamed gum. This was brushed off as not an issue. Turns out, I had an infection in the gum, which was left to fester for 4 months, and I now need a root canal on that tooth. This could have potentially been avoided by being actually listened to by Dr. Prabhakar and being prescribed a round of antibiotics, so instead of costing me ~$12 it's going to cost over $2000 to get this appropriately dealt with. I called her to express my concern, only to be talked over, and being told this was all my fault. I can't speak for other dentists, but I would not recommend seeing Dr. Prabhakar. read more

Dr. Han is excellent. I saw him every 6 months for several years. He always remembered me and details we talked about at my last visit. He was very nice and felt like he went above and beyond spending more time on me than I've experienced elsewhere (vs just the hygienist). I was always in and out of there in 20-30 minutes and never paid a thing with my insurance. The front desk was great about finding appointments that worked for me and made sure to let me know what and when my insurance would cover. This place is overcharging. I like my doctor and the nurse that they are very nice and professional. However the charging is just high. For a 30 min teeth cleaning and x-ray, they charge insurance company for $555 and I have to pay $111. Note the $111 is in addition to the $50 deductable. My dental PPO insurance policy has x-ray and 2 teeth cleaning covered per year but apparently it is not the case because they charge more than the insurance pay. read more

I came here on the advice of co-workers and didn't sufficiently look into their prices. Wow, was I surprised. First, they said I'd have to get a crown and some fillings. Cool. I showed up for these procedures, only to be informed (while I was already in the chair and about to get drugged) that I'd have a $500 co-pay. Really, you couldn't have mentioned this before? Not able to stomach the unforeseen $500 charge, I just opted for the fillings, which they said would be covered by my insurance with $100 copay. Kinda cool. Fast forward a few months and I get another $100 bill from Dr. Lum. Turns out they charge $1000!!!!!!!!! for a couple of fillings. Oh my lord. Of course my insurance didn't cover all of this wacky amount, so I'm shelling out the difference. Most uncool. These guys are crazy overpriced. UPDATE: My coworker just had a very similar experience (additional bill showed up out of nowhere long after the procedure). Beware: most doctors warn you that it MIGHT cost more than the insurance will cover, but with these guys you should interpret it to mean that it WILL cost significantly more. I don't blame my insurance company for not paying their crazy rates. I just wish I hadn't believed Dr. Lum's folks when they said all but $100 would be covered. I CALL SHENANIGANS! read more

Wow. All I can say that it has been six months and they still refuse to correct their bill to me. Here is the story. We went to their office and were to have a procedure done. We told them that no portion could be billed to insurance because there was no benefit left. We were very stern with them and looked them in the eyes and they agreed. This was confirmed many times. When we asked how much the total due to us is considering there was no insurance benefit to be used they showed as that amount and we paid it. Later a bill came showing they charged almost $600 in erroneous fees and they also billed insurance. Six months later and multiple conversations later they agreed to lower the cost of the procedure by just over $300 but when I checked with insurance they did not lower the cost but instead just cleared a clerical error that had no bearing on settling their overcharge on this case. I strongly suggest you find another place for your dental work. If you have had work done I also encourage you to call your insurance carrier and see if they overcharged you. read more

Like many of the other reviewers I'm being screwed by the billing department. Last time I left their office I had a $0 balance. I've since received several bills for $179 w/ only "previous balance" as a line item on the bill. Since they never answer the phone, I've left the billing department 3+ voicemails asking for them to call me w/ an explanation of what service I'm paying for. Is that too much to ask? All they have done is send me more bills w/ higher amounts for late fees. I've submitted a complaint to the better business bureau and they also have no response from Embarcadero Dentistry! Worst dentist place I have ever been. The reception people did worst job. I had the wisdom teeth pain, and wanted to extract them. They asked me to do Panoramic Film before surgery, and charged me $175 for it. Then what really scared me is that they totally messed up patients' information. On a Saturday morning, they called me and told me that I have an appointment with them for the surgery that morning. I didn't make appointment for that day, and the teeth they said didn't match the ones I want to extract at all. Turn out they messed my info with some one else. Then I decided not do extraction there since they are not reliable at all, and I wanted to ask for my Panoramic Film copy. I called, and someone asked me to email her. She told me she will follow up, but never! I really think they should hire someone else for the reception desk job. read more

Completely overpriced. When you walk in you'll notice there are a lot of people working here, at the front desk, dental assistants, etc. They have lots of fancy gear. Someone has to pay for all that overhead and it will be you. They are very nice people but you can save a LOT of cash going elsewhere. They wanted $2500 after insurance for a replacement bridge. I went to a dentist in the Richmond and paid $1500 total. Insurance covered $1200 Read some of the other reviews, you will pay some out of pocket right there then get an additional bill as insurance will not cover their jacked up prices. About a year and a half ago I got a new job in the city. I knew with that I was going to have to find new doctors and dentists. I was most disappointed about having to find a new dentist. I loved Dr. Eggers, my dentist, in Menlo Park. About six months ago I had a cleaning and exam at Embarcadero Dentistry. I was excited that they could fit me in that day. The reception area, cleaning and exam were okay. The dentist I saw was nice (a petite Asian woman, I can't remember her name)...but not Dr. Hasse. Fast forward to April...I received a confirmation call on Tuesday for an Thursday appointment. I confirmed but a couple days later work was much to busy to leave. I call in today: Me: Hello this is Sofia H. I have a 12PM appointment today and I need to cancel. Receptionist: Which doctor are you with? Me: Dr. Hasse Receptionist: And you are calling to confirm? Me: No. I'm calling to cancel. Receptionist: One moment. (Hold) Receptionist 2: Hello Sofia, you can't come in today? Me: No. Receptionist 2: Okay, how about Monday, April 25th at 10AM. Me: I'd rather call back to reschedule. Receptionist 2: Okay. Bye. (Click) Also, I have decent dental insurance and they kept sending me bills that said a payment was due...like three of them. When I finally called in to pay over the phone the woman said I didn't have a payment due, insurance covered everything. Then way are you wasting paper and stamps sending me reminder after reminder. It was easy to make an appointment, even though I was a first time patient, without too much downtime between call and visitation day. Waited no more than 5 minutes to see Dr. Saad Salahuddin after I arrived, and he was relaxed and easy going, which was nice. He was gentle while he cleaned my teeth, as was his assistant. They gave me a mirror so I could see what was going on in my drooling mouth, which made me feel less anxious. Sadly, this visit saw my first cavity in all my thirty one years. Three of them. I'm so happy with everyone I've encountered here. My regular dentist is Dr. Facchino. I've been a patient of his since 2007. He's just fantastic, makes you feel very comfortable, and not sales-y. Just an awesome dude! I've also seen the orthodontist - Dr. Lam. I had really gnarly teeth when I was younger, had braces for 2 years, wore my retainer for almost 6 years, and then stopped and now my teeth have moved. Wear your retainer for the rest of your life if you can! Anyways, he gave me several options, but unfortunately, I can't justify the cost at this time since my dental insurance doesn't cover all that much, but he was very nice and informative. My most recent experience was with the peridontist, Dr. Kashani. He is just amazing. I had one gum that had receded and he performed a soft tissue graft- harvesting skin from the roof of my mouth and stitching it to the gum. He and his team - shout-out to Santiago (who actually previously worked on me when I first saw Dr. Facchino) and the girl who helped (sorry can't remember her name!)- worked seamlessly, efficiently, and swiftly. I hardly felt anything. They did such an amazing job and made me feel so comfortable. I believe the procedure went the best it could've gone. It's healing very well. Finally, shout-out to Rey (spelling?) who books all my appointments. She is just the best and is so patient with me because I'm the annoying person who has to know all her options and double-check her scheduling when making an appointment.
