    Desert Resort Management

    (14 reviews)

Desert Resort Management: A Mismanaged Maraud of Misplaced Priorities…read more.. As a former resident of Shadow Ranch, I feel compelled to share my experience with Desert Resort Management--a company that, quite frankly, deserves to be critiqued for its inefficiency and lack of communication. While I'm relieved to have moved on, my dealings with them have left a lasting impression, particularly concerning the mishandling of a substantial $2,000 refund that remains unresolved. The HOA's chronic mismanagement is not just a nuisance; it's symptomatic of a larger issue within the community. My decision to sell my home and relocate to another desert city was heavily influenced by the way Shadow Ranch was run. Issues are brought to the board's attention repeatedly, yet they habitually remain unaddressed. It seemed I wasn't the only one who realized this--a shared sentiment among homeowners. Despite having left Shadow Ranch, I find myself embroiled in a frustrating refund process with the HOA. The simplicity of my request seemed straightforward--on September 23, I requested a refund of the overpaid amount, with the check made payable to my husband due to a name change after we purchased the home in 2021. I expected this to be a routine procedure, but I was sorely mistaken. For clarity, I followed up on my initial request with an email on September 29. My phone calls and voicemails were consistently ignored, until at last, I received a response on October 8. My optimism was short-lived, though, as I encountered bureaucratic hurdles demanding I provide a deed showing joint ownership of the property. I complied immediately by sending the deed on the same day. Assurances were abundant; on October 14, I was told that the account name had been updated, with a promise of a check being processed by the end of the week. Yet the saga continues. The conflicting messages from Cristian, implying administrative confusion over basic details like our address and residence community, only added to my frustration. On October 17th, I reached out yet again, met with the same placating assurances that they were "doing their best to expedite the process." Ciara expressed confidence, projecting the delivery of the check for "some point next week," but this vague promise was merely a temporal kick down the road, unsupported by clear reason or accountability measures. The absence of genuine commitment compelled me to escalate the issue to upper management, who were included in the email correspondence but offered nothing more than silence. On October 22nd, I received a message from Ciara declaring that the check was ready for pickup at the Palm Desert office the following day. My husband, adhering to their directive, made the journey only to encounter the predictable disappointment of an unfulfilled promise; no check was available, with the staff indicating it still needed to be printed. Shortly after, a phone call informed him that they had "just received the payment," and that the accounting team needed to approve and issue the check. This begs the question: Why direct us to the office for pickup if no check was ready? The continuing silence from upper management is as deafening as their service is deficient. No apologies have been offered, nor any sign of service recovery. The irony lies in their efficiency in collecting payments, raising rates, and neglecting necessary repairs and upkeep at Shadow Ranch, juxtaposed with the Herculean struggle of securing a refund. Such a business model raises concerns about their priorities and business acumen--or lack thereof. This is not merely an inconvenience; it is an affront to the very concept of customer service and respect for homeowners. Their inability to communicate effectively, meet resident needs, or focus on maintaining the community's value is deplorable. Leadership at Desert Resort Management seems absent, disconnected, perhaps even indifferent to consequences, and that should give any prospective homeowner pause. We remain without our refund, and this experience underscores a larger issue: the potential for others to encounter similar fates. The importance of thorough due diligence cannot be overstated for anyone considering this or any HOA-managed community. Desert Resort Management demonstrates a failing system, living off the backs of those it is supposed to serve, with no regard for transparency or responsibility. This serves as a poignant warning to all--be wary of entities more interested in taking than giving. In summary, my experience with Desert Resort Management reflects a systemic lapse in professionalism and accountability. While I relish the freedom of moving somewhere new, I hope this narrative serves as a warning to others considering life within Shadow Ranch or any community managed by DRM. An HOA that cannot effectively manage finances or communicate with homeowners in a timely manner erodes trust, a foundational pillar of any community.

Initially, it was not the answer I was hoping for but in the end that was a simple miscommunication on my part regarding 'which' jacuzzi. But regardless, the interaction was professional and responsive. It's early, but (initially at least) I'm a fan.

She rented me…read moreand 5 of my friends a 3 bedroom house in a golf course community off Indian Palms country club and about 3 miles from Coachella music festival. Her customer service skills are lacking. There were promises of houses that fell through without warning and I would only find out after I called to ask about when we could expect the contract and send the deposit. On another call, she came through and said she would have a 3 bedroom condo for rent but she couldn't show me pictures (because she does not know how to communicate via email/the web) and couldn't figure out how to up-load them to share. Then it was my turn to be nervous to committ to a condo for everyone without seeing photos but there was seriously not a single other apartment available that close to the festival. We took a risk going on her word that the house was at least "clean" and thought that if anything, we wouldn't be spending a lot of time there anyway. Even after this "promise" of a prospect, Rose was hesitant to commit via anything in writing for weeks (I wanted the house hunting to be over with and wanted to give a deposit ASAP) and making plans for 6 people on only Rose's "word" seemed a little iffy. It was very frustrating and I kept looking for houses in the area. I stayed in touch with Rose out of desperation and after about a month of no other house leads from other realtors, or owners, I started calling her again almost everyday to get her to commit to renting us this mystery property. Finally she emailed me a contract (after about 10 failed tries and a lot of back and forth phone calls) that had incorrect information so then there needed to be ammending and adjusting and we had finally finally! secured a place. All in all the ordeal with Rose and renting this condo took about 5 weeks. We breathed a sigh of releif when we arrived and the condo was a lot nicer than expected. No wifi, no cable, older everything; but clean linens, clean bathrooms, steps to a pool/hot tub, parking. Rose is not good about returning calls, emailing, being timely or meticulously accurate. She did however come through with a decent condo rental price and a good condo rental for the long weekend (4 night min). 3 stars for coming through, the loss of 2 stars is for the stress she put me through from January up until we walked through the door of our rental in April.

Kristen - Your response is so far from the truth, its laughable.  I did not arrive 3 days early…read morefrom finalization date.  I spoke to your contractor t4 days before moving in and he promised it would be complete on May 7th. The condo was supposed to be completed the week previously and I agreed to delay moving for 7 days.  I have a copy of the text of him apologizing for this problem.   When we came into this contract, you were hired because I was in  the hospital due to an intestinal illness and could not manage the project myself.  My mom met you to facilitate the contract on my behalf.  My husband died on March16 2020, almost 7 months before the water damage to my condo occurred.  His death had nothing to do with my condo.  Please get your facts straight and stop lying.  There was no restoration company on site when you came to the condo - another lie.  My mom was there with an air conditioning company that repaired the leak from the air conditioner.  The restoration company did not begin any work until the following week.  That was the last time my mom visited the condo until May of 2021.  You are the one who met with the restoration company, you were hired to facilitate that process with my insurance company.  Your "best vendor" has still not finished repairing my condo.  It has now been 6 months since you paid the contractor for "completing the job and it has yet to be accomplished. The baseboards still need to be painted, , there is trim work that hasn't been finished, there are nails poking out of cabinets, one of the kitchen cabinets is cracked in half, the toilet paper holder is hanging off the wall, the granite on my bathroom backsplash was broken and glued sloppily back together, there is missing door stops and electric outlet covers, overspray, paint drips, sloppy and wrong color caulking and many, many other problems.  I am still missing pull out cabinet drawers and my screen door for my sliding glass door that was broken.  My living room, dining room, and patio furniture were all damaged.  My neighbors can testify that my furniture was roughly placed out on my patio and they watched heavy items that were thrown on top of my glass patio table and heard it break. This was all done when the flooring was being installed.   Also the tile on my patio is cracked from furniture being dropped on it.   You said your husband cleaned my "whole house" for me - what a joke!  My mom and I spent 4 days cleaning my condo because it was so filthy dirty.  I wish I would have taken pictures of what you considered clean.  There is still piles of sawdust under my  bed and behind my dresser and armoire because I'm not strong enough to move the furniture to vacuum it up.    Yes I did meet with the contractor and have made numerous phone calls and texted him numerous times during these last 6 months asking to get things fixed but it has yet to be resolved.  This past week I have texted him 5 times  and made 6 phone calls to beg him to return my items and fix the problems.  He always says "he will be there tomorrow" or "let me call you right back" and then nothing.   I  never said my condo looked "beautiful" - I actually paced around, holding back the tears from seeing all the items that were very poorly executed, damage property, or still not competed.  I encourage anyone to come over to my condo for themselves to see the subpar work that was done and that you were paid to supervise.    You deposited the $20,000.00 the insurance company paid to have my condo repaired from water damage into your bank account.  As I stated in the previous review I am still waiting for the receipts showing what you paid out and to whom.   I have no idea where that money went.  I am left with a condo that is still unrepaired and unrentable.  What part of that makes you not a thief or a liar?  One last note - you stated "I noticed that on your other reviews you have bashed many companies and restaurants, which looks like it was done out of anger and grief".   Over 70% of my reviews are 4 stars and above (most being 5 stars except one 4 star).  I recognize and praise any business that does high quality work.

I first interviewed Josh Hayes as a potential property manager when the company I was using at the time, began to do nothing more but take calls from my tenants and then pass the problem onto me rather than handling it themselves, which is what I thought I was paying them for. I was very impressed with Josh when I interviewed him and hired him on the spot to take over management of the property, and it could not have been a better decision to make. He is very knowledgeable and competent about the rental real estate market and once a tenant was in place his wife Mai always did an outstanding job of addressing maintenance issues or tenant concerns while only reaching out to me when owner input was absolutely necessary which made the rental property ownership experience much better. They always found tenants for me quickly, and efficiently, in a very professional manner and who were responsible and who paid regularly. Never had a tenant miss a payment! I would highly recommend Hayes Realty for property management! When I decided to sell the property earlier this year, they stepped up to the plate and offered to list it for me, and it was a perfect, smooth, and worry free experience all the way through. I'm use to real estate transactions and escrows being a very stressful and uncertain time and they could not have been more professional and efficient in handling the transaction and getting it closed on time with very little fuss or stress.
