My architect spent weeks compiling a lift of SLICK new hardware and I was told by my contractor that installing it was a "one-day project". Not even close. This was a totally square peg into a round hole problem. The guys the contractor had messed up all sorts of stuff and made one hell of a mess out of the parts. Enter Moe (not Curly, Larry or Shemp - which would have been cool) and while it took him a few days and his initiative to hunt down some more relevant parts - the got the project done for me when others could. The technician called promptly after, asked for my address and said he would arrive within 15 mins. Upon arrival, he said he couldn't pick a single cylinder deadbolt and that he would have to drill it, rendering it unusable. He didn't provide an exact quote at that point, only a wide range for the price saying it depends on difficulty. After he finished drilling, he kept the cylinder, threw away the hardware, and didn't even clean up the metal shavings. Overall he charged a "discounted" service call fee (which wasn't previously mentioned) and a fee for drilling (which was allegedly the same price as picking a lock). He also said he would "waive the tax", which is ridiculous since labor is generally not subject to sales tax anyways. Overall, paid nearly $400 which felt like a ripoff for the job and locksmith but recognize the prompt service. I will try to find someone more trustworthy and transparent next time.
