While looking for a place to make key copies for work, I came across Hillcrest Lock & Safe. It's a small shop located right on W. Pico. There is a small parking lot which was nice. The inside felt very cluttered and claustrophobic. There was just so much stuff in there making it look messy and unorganized. I have no idea how they can keep track of everything. The guy who was helping me kept asking a bunch of questions. Asking me what the keys are for, where I work etc. I'm like dude, stop asking. I just gave them a bunch of bs answers. That made me a bit uncomfortable. But nonetheless, the keys got made and I was in and out quickly thank goodness. I think next time ill just go to Home Depot. read more

My truck lid has been jammed the past few weeks and I finally decided to stop messing with it and take it to a professional. I looked up locations in Los Angeles and came across Hillcrest Lock and Safe's reviews and I'm glad I did. After I explained the situation, the owner walked out to my car and evaluated the situation. He helped me get the lid open and proceeded to fix the lock mechanism that broke. It took all of 10 minutes and he was going to let me go, but I wanted to give him some money. When I went inside to get some change the young son and daughter were helping their dad out and gave me the necessary change. Tucked into the nook of the car wash and a private school at the corner of Pico/Bev Glen, this top-tier business can easily be missed if you aren't carefully looking. From start to finish the service and professionalism provided was above and beyond superb. I came in with a doozy of a challenge and Marvin rose to the occasion unlike any other potential craftsman would. I originally arrived around lunch time and it was so busy that Marvin asked me to return later at closing so he could dedicate more time to my issue. I gladly agreed and came back when he was able to give my problem his full focus. That right there spoke volumes as to his determination and work ethic granting me his sincere effort. My car key was worn down to the quick, nearly razor thin and truthfully about to snap at the tip. It was my only one since the spare had recently suffered the same fate and in the ignition. Since it was hardly recognizable anymore to be duplicated, Marvin took it upon himself to think outside the box and work around the missing cuts by removing my entire passenger door lock to discover the correct divots. Together we finessed it's removal and reinstall without a hitch. When he was unable to fully create a duplicate key to turn the ignition over, we wondered if it was a FOB problem. I assured him my key did not have a FOB chip inside it even though it was contained within a casing similar to one that would have a FOB. I then suggested to him that I bring him my broken key, which I had saved to see if he would want to cut it open and wrangle a makeshift FOB chip from it for the new key and would potentially fix the issue. I went home, got the key and brought it back to him, by then he had been over time an hour and a half. It was 7pm and we decided that I would return the next day and we could finish then. I came back the next day at the agreed time and after opening the broken key FOB and discovering that indeed it had no FOB chip in it, we were more certain then that it was wholly possible to make me a new key with delicate trial & error cuts as we tested each new attempt in the ignition. After a few tries, with luck it turned over the car engine and like magic I had a new key. Not only did they not charge me for the 4+ hours of labor to create the key, but I received 3 total keys for the price of one, NO FOB CHARGE and a new go-to place for key and lock services. Needless to say his good natured personality, humor and gregarious sense of the situation were all extra toppings with the great service and outcome. It's a family run place and has a family run quality about it. I can easily say that if I took my problem anywhere else I would've been told to go to the dealership or just get a new car, but here not only did they rise to the occasion but they also did it with a grin and a laugh. I won't go anywhere else ever again and neither should you. Next time you want it done right and with dedicated attention, go to Hillcrest and see Marvin. read more

I asked for a rekey consultation, was told it would be $50 and I agreed. Sent over a technician who pulled it apart and then told us it would cost $800, $400 minimum. He proceeded to yell at us, and refused to put it back together unless he was given $150 on the spot because he no longer "trusted us". He then yelled at my immigrant parents that they were "part of the KKK"... Being offended and confused, I tried to contact Hillcrest again who then called back and began to gaslight me. They called me only to deny they had sent him over, and even deny owning the number that they were currently calling us on. Terribly disappointed, left feeling very unsafe. read more
